Akpabio is not a mediocre, not by Nigerian standards, and I'm not celebrating him. There are governors who couldn't do projects that are commensurate with the little they receive.
He is a Hero that deserves a Nobel prize by Nigerian standards. That's how convincing and thorough Nigerian standards are. So non-mediocre he was a governor that he had to rig himself to become a senator with 400k votes and then he issued 953k votes to another Nobel prize-deserving President even though both senatorial and presidential elections happened at the same time.

Nigeria I hail thee and thy standards!

I bet you've not been to Akwa Ibom before. Has Amaechi been feeding and housing the entire Rivers inhabitants that he can't complete a simple project? Akwa Ibom is more beautiful, well planned and structured than Rivers in all aspects so leave population outta this. I put it up to you that tthe only thing with which Lagos passes Akwa Ibom is the presence of lots of industries and sky scrappers compared to those in the latter but all these put together cannot compete with the revenue generated by the oil in Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom has better roads than Lagos, better source of water than Lagos(wells) and all that jazz. Besides, Akwa Ibom is just a baby state compared to old papa Lagos so why should there be rivalling with Lagos?
You're talking about the capital of Akwa-ibom which is Uyo. That is where the buck stops. Go to the inner cities and hinterlands and weep. I have forgiven you for telling me to leave population out of it. If one state has 100k Civil servants and another has 2M civil servants, will we judge infrastructural development(s) of both states without factoring that, and how much allocations they received? Akwa-ibom has which better roads than Lagos? They have more than a hundred new road networks?

I don't get what you mean by closeness to the FG and you don't get a seaport by pushing for it. It involves some bureaucratic (and ethnic) bottlenecks in this country. Where is the second Niger bridge?
The governors of Akwa-ibom especially Akpabio since 1999 have been members of the ruling party and in Akpabio's case, were VERY close to the President. What bottlenecks did he overcome in situating an airport? The failure of the second Niger bridge is still the same issue of bad governance. GEJ claimed the bridge will cost him 130B but he was only able to appropriate 10B in his 5 years as C-in-C. Yet in December of 2014 alone, he approved 320B for oil marketers and their so-called subsidy.

This shows you that when a good government pushes for something to be done, they usually get it done.

The companies were already there and Lagos was automatically going to be developed as a capital and cosmopolitan city. Akwa-Ibom has started by building roads and other basic amenities. The new stadium and international airport will rub off on the state's economy at some point. You don't sleep and wake up to see all that.
No Sir, the companies were not already there. Infact 80% of them came as the city developed. Abuja has been the Country's capital since 1991 and the growth there is not as brisk as Lagos'. Akwa-ibom was carved out of then Cross-Rivers and Cross- Rivers used to be the capital of Nigeria at some point. Let us stop celebrating mediocres as heroes for goodness' sake.

Based on finances alone, not yet, sir. Lagos did not get their overnight. So many factors are involved, right from the colonial days. What would you do, as the governor of Akwa-Ibom, to build seaports and attract multinationals to your state? Lagos was a former capital city which hugely accounted for its development, it's not just down to raw cash alone!
With the resources of the state and closeness to the FG between 1999-2015, shouldn't Akwa-ibom have pushed for a seaport? Is that not what I am talking about when addressing good governance? Do you think good governance is about building a few roads here and there and a stadium?

Tinubu and Fashola created a framework and working environment for the companies to see reason for establishing their companies in Lagos. It is the same measure I expect from Akpabio.

Lagos started from somewhere. I want to know how far and fast Akwa-Ibom has gone and I like to see how much better they should be doing considering they have Tourism and concessional royalties (FROM OIL COMPANIES) incorporated in their IGR structure together with a sparsely populated region.

Amaechi started the PH stadium project b4 Akpabio started that of the Ibom Int'l Stadium, but where is the PH stadium now? Education, health, transportation and other infrastructural development in Akwa Ibom State is *kisses*. Akwa Ibom receives the highest revenue because it generates the highest National revenue to the Federal Govt, it goes in that order in all the states based on what they generate to the Federal Govt. It is only conventional for a few of the pple in Akwa Ibom to be poor, after all there are poor pple even in the US and in the UK. Pls let's give honour to whom it is due instead of giving silly comments. Akpabio, Fashola and Rochas have all done well. Built a stadium faster than Amaechi, because Akwa-ibom has the same population with Rivers?
Is it only Federal allocations Akwa-ibom receives? Don't they have internally generated revenues? Should Akwa-Ibom not be rivalling Lagos?

How much IGR Lagos generates is immaterial because Akwa-ibom could as well do that. That is what should even be celebrated as good governance and not a situation where a state receives N136B in 6 months and yet their achievements cannot be compared with another state that receives N55B and has 10 times the population of the other state.

Endorsed.

If this propaganda didn't sway voters GEJs way in March, it will still be useless now. Let me give people a run-down of companies whose recruitment is on hold:

NLNG
OANDO
NNPC
Etc.

We did this NNPC test on the 6th of December 2014 when Oil prices were still sinking. Even more interesting of all is that the management and staff of NNPC decided to schedule the test in late 2014 knowing fully well that the price of crude had been declining since August of the same year. It therefore flies in the face of logic for them to suspend the process on the same premise that didn't prevent them from scheduling the test in the first place.

In summary, Companies (especially Big corporations) employ when the NEED arises. If the market is fair, they may decide to employ more hands than before. If it isn't, they may decide to cutback on the number. NNPC is a big corporation so I expect them to do same.

The key points here was that the number 2 position was zoned to the niger delta as part of the moves to calm down the militancy, and GEJ got it. The kidnapping of the oil workers apart from increasing the cost of oil production, also forced a lot of the IOCs to declare force majeur. Despite whatever savings you claimed OBJ was making, the fact remains that over 1million bpd was knocked of our oil production, you can confirm that from your sister. You can also ask your sister to confirm to you what is presently happening to the Yoho field, operated by ExxonMobil. People like you who leave in self denial are always the worst hit in times of crisis. The earlier the incoming government starts putting together a strategy to implement the confab report, the better for everyone.
The military option is what the militants are itching for, because it would raise the stakes beyond just resource control. The incoming government would just be playing into their hands. Implementing the confab report is the way to go, else, ruthless sabotage and the eventual collapse of the system would be inevitable. Despite the bravado from people like you, we believe that Those wearing the shoes know better.

You can continue to dish out incorrect figures inorder to downplay the adverse effect militancy had on the economy, during OBJ's government, but the reality will remain. The only reason why GEJ was hand picked to run as running mate to Yaradua was to appease the militants. Yaradua, came and followed up with amnesty programme. APC has pressed the reset button, so let's see how the other party responds. It is only positive and genuine engagement with these aggrieved region, with the aim of permanently dealing with the issue of resource control, in a fiscal federalism, that can guarantee peace.
The military option was used exhaustively by OBJ, and it failed woefully, because he realized that the thearter of this insurgency was riddled with the oil and gas pipelines, which made it difficult to take out the militants, without taking down the country. Your line of argument is mere bravado because at the end of the day, those agitating for resource control through restructuring of Nigeria will prevail.
Let me end by correcting some of your distorted figures, before the militancy, Nigeria was at 2.1 million bpd, I don't want to start giving you the breakdown from the various IOCs and local marginal field owners. At the time of handing over to Yaradua, OBJ was at below 700,000 bpd, and that is the fact. As at today, we are doing 2.3million bpd, and Osun and Benue are owing workers salaries. Any form of sabotage will result to mass sack of workers by both the states and federal governments, not to talk of the federal government. Such a scenario will just bring down the government. The only way to avert this is to restructure the country. God bless Nigeria.
What baffles me is the confidence with which you divulge half-baked ideologies and reasons behind GEJs selection. It is on record that Odili was the touted name but Obasanjo, on receiving Nuhu Ribadu's EFCC analysis, decided to renege and seek another unassuming Niger Deltan. It had absolutely nothing to do with the militants and the sooner you come to terms with that, the better for you.

President Yar Adua signed the amnesty deal in 2009, yet the militancy festered till 2012 and someone is here telling us about chimerical crippling effects the so-called militants had on the economy. As though, Obasanjo was saving stones and not dollars in the FR.

FYI, Obasanjo's stop-gap military approach was not as a result of the pipelines for goodness' sake. It was because of the foreign nationals that were usually taken as hostages during reprisals. It just made sense for the military to tread cautiously. Did the Militants have any effect on the economy? Sure they did. But it is not as pronounced as you would have us believe, so get the full message.

Lastly, and most risible of all, save that 'I-don't-want-to-give-you-a-breakdown' bla bla. My sister works with the DPR. If I wanted figures, I'd get it from her. If you cannot see that with 700k bpd and oil at 40-50$ Obasanjo was able to do more than your man with your supposed 2.3M bpd and 50-115$ (from 2011-2014, 2014-2015) and yet devoid of militants, then keep Stevie wondering through life. Very soon, you'd concede that it is the willpower of the leader that gets things done and not the actions or inactions of misled miscreants A.K.A militants.

Let me work with your own incorrect figures, say, 1.7million bpd, and the militants knocks out, say 1million bpd, at today's rate of 50 dollars per barrel, that is over 50 million dollars per day.kindly do the maths for one year so that you will know how desperate it was for OBJ, which forced him to go and pick GEJ as Yaradua's running mate. The ultimate loser is the FG who will go virtually broke. You will have to come to terms that in present day Nigeria, the niger delta are the ones who pay the piper, and will ultimately dictate the tune.
They knocked out about 350K barrels in total at their peak period of militancy. If Production dropped to 700-800K does it not show that production should have been between 1-1.1M as I had earlier said?

Now Yar Adua signed an amnesty deal and the activities still continued. GEJ came with his largess and let these militants carter as much as 400K per day just so Nigeria could produce between 1.5-1.9M, tell me is that good governance? And what is to say if the full armour of the military is directed at the militants Nigeria will do any less than the 1.5M?

Let me take you back memory lane, another General tried fruitlessly in 2006 to use the military against them, and he only succeeded in reducing our oil production to less than 700bpd. He was so frustrated that he had to go and hand pick GEJ to run as Late Yaradua's president. It did not stop at that, GEJ had to go to the creeks to beg them to accept the late president's offer of amnesty.
It is either you have a very short memory, or that you were a child, still in school, collecting pocket money from his parents who were obviously suffering the hardship of that time. I honestly think that people like you need to have a taste of the effects of this type of crisis so that they will learn what they don't know. I will advise your Buhari and his APC to start looking at cocoa and groundnuts as a replacement for the oil and gas revenues from Niger delta. The militants are not finding it funny that the north and southwest have ganged up against them. I can assure you that if Buhari goes for the military option, just as OBJ did, it will result to disastrous consequences for Abuja and the entire country. This is not the time for bravado comments from children like you, but for immediate positive engagement to resolve the issues. The way forward is to quickly implement the results of the constitutional conference, that is the true change we should all seek.
Please assay posters well before responding. I am not in the clique of braindead propaganda preachers. In 2006 Oil prices were not as high as GEJ had them so most OPEC nations were forced to cutback on their production figures. As at that time, Nigeria which should have been doing 1.4-1.8M barrels was forced to do less say 1-1.1M. The militancy made production figures to be less than 850K which is not too significant if you are looking at the grand scheme of things.

So when you say the economy was crippled, maybe you need to ask yourself how Obasanjo was able to save close to 60B dollars in the FR inspite of all the militancy. Don't be hoodwinked by what TAN claimed GEJs role was in the amnesty deal. Sure President Yar Adua offered them a deal but it wasn't this ginormous values that GEJ gave them and Yar Adua did so to gain adulations following the charade of an electoral process that brought him in. If memory serves me well, Yar Adua offered to empower the militants with trainings and a stipend of 65K per month and gave some of their leaders reasonable contracts to protect some pipelines.

But GEJ came in and supplanted the Navy with those miscreants while allowing them to bunker as much oil as possible inspite of offering them billions of naira.

The new government will not condone such largess and will be swift to crush any ruckus from such disgruntled elements.

I guess Daura will manufacture bullets and missiles that will hit the militants with precision while leaving out the mesh of oil and gas pipelines all over the place. Immediately it becomes a full conflict, it will suck in the whole region, and guess what, those who have won elections to go and sit over the oil and gas resources, will have only cocoa and groundnut to sit over. The outlay doesn't look bright at all, except there is an immediate positive engagement to address whatever issues these boys are asking for.
Sadly, your cynicism didn't consider that the "militants" do not hide behind meshes of pipeline(s). They are going to face a ruthless General. This is not the amnesty charade.

Don't be cynical. The Gubernatorial elections are still to hold on the 11th. After that, you can cry blue murder if nothing happens. I am of the opinion that neither this present government nor the incoming one can scuttle the recruitment process for the very reason that it doesn't concern them as such. For the former, they can wrap it up before 29th of May and for the latter, it's all about appending the right signature on the supposed dots when presented to whomever it will be. At the least, he/she will include a few names to the list and sign it off. So no cause for alarm.
