Politics › Re: US Freezes Nigerian Embassy’s Accounts Over Money Laundering by escobar07(m): 1:47pm On Jun 18, 2012 |
Wallie: To all saying that the US was wrong in freezing the account, you need to understand that the US is a country with functioning security agencies.
1. There’s a law called the Bank Secrecy Act that requires banks to report any daily withdrawal or deposit of $10,000 or more to government agencies.
2. The law also requires the banks to report any suspicious activity even if the amount is less than $10k.
3. It is not necessarily the $50k amount withdrawn from the embassy’s account that is of importance but more about the history of the account. If you’re a business that normally conducts traceable transactions of $20,000 per month but in a particular month, you moved about $3.6 million that can’t be traced to a legal transaction, you’re bound to raise red flags. The authorities are not saying anybody did something illegal; they’re merely saying that something does not look right and are giving you an opportunity to explain yourself. We also have ours and it is called Money laudering act. |

some people are giving 'consultation' as their own excuse for not liking this name-change. But let me ask, do u go about protesting something u like even if u were not informed beforehand? I think the answer is no. For instance, if i gave u a car but u didnt like it because i didnt tell u, would u picket my house? People need to tell us why they really dont like dis change. |

patriot2: Things that could be archieved by the US move: -boko haram sponsors would not be able to send money to boko haram any more. -boko haram allies in the US would be arrested. -boko haram would be tracked everywhere it is in the world by all secret agencies. -police men in the US will be giving the authority to check and arrest people who are holding terrorist talks or are related to boko harm. what makes you feel some of the things you listed are not being done covertly? |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Opposes U.S. Bid To Tag Boko Haram As Terror Group by escobar07(m): 4:20pm On May 23, 2012 |
I dont think the time's right to put the FTO tag on boko haram. One big reason why they are still in business is because of our poor state of security. The FTO tag will just give them international exposure. Again i dont see how this will reduce the number of bombs going off. Nigerian travellers too should be ready for more harassment. |
