vosquare: How do i do that? Get a large bin with tight cover. After pouring manure into it, put a carbon source(smooth sawdust, dry grasses, shredded papers, etc) on top. You turn the mixture together once in a week. And cover up. Like that for 6 months. By then, the pathogens would have died off and it will be odourless. You can then mix with soil for your nurseries or as side-dressing on your farm. |

Which is preferable to use, the urine or droppings, and what side effect(s) do they have? Yes. Rabbit manure is not considered "hot". And can be applied directly to plants It's a better manure than poultry. Has the highest NPK level of animal poop. I've been looking for it o. Do you rear rabbits? If your toothpaste states "vegetable glycerin", it is most likely from GMO corn and/or soy. Glycerin is most commonly used in toothpastes and soaps and it is added to toothpaste to keep it from drying out.

jidestroud: There are a few things I do when prepping the land for transplant.
1. I add lots and lots of compost to my soil. Luckily for me, I have got it in abundance from a poultry site.
2. When transplanting, I am not one of those who wets the soil around it. I observed that adding water increases the chances of the roots cutting off due to heavy wet soil.
3. I usually start transplanting when plant height is about 5inches. And I make sure I bury the stem of the plant to almost where I have the first leaves.
Note: When transplanting, I make sure I study the seeds information to know what the actual plant looks like. This helps a lot in working out the spacings to adopt. Also helps in staking methods. Unfortunately, I ignored that of Rodeo 62 f1 and I paid dearly for it
4. Another thing I observe now is doing my stake before transplanting. This helps eliminate destruction of new roots emerging as a roots of putting stakes around the plants after it has already been planted[/b].
5. Cutting off all lower leaves close to the ground is a thing I always do.
6. Lastly, I now mulch my tomatoes in my garden. Well, still observing how wood chips affects my tomato plants in the long run. Nevertheless, I still incorporate compost like every other week with addition of bone meal just once.
O yeah, I did add Neem cakes to my soil in the land prep. Got the contact of the people supplying neem oil this one of the Agro stores around. So, get the neem seed cakes was easy. Also made some myself. This makes sense. How did you make the neem cakes? How often do you re-apply after land prep? I have some wild neem trees in abundance very close to my farm. Still wondering how best to work them into a large farmland tho. |

jidestroud: @Pistotita
Pls boss, your suggestions is what I am currently working on as a matter of fact. But ofcos, I am mostly improvising at this pilot stages.
Steps taken so far; 1. I had to pasteurize the soil to use for the seed nursing. In doing this, I had to sieve the soil, rap in up in aluminum foil and placed in my gass oven to be heat to 200° for 15mins and left to cool down overnight.
2. For the ones I transplanted earlier, I had to add a bone meal to the compost used. (Worked with 1kg per 2 square meter)
3. Working seriously on my watering pattern around each tomato plant (including the cobras). I would be using homemade craters around a few of the rodeo plant.
Currently doing some research on salinity and my tomatoes. Likewise, playing around with nutrition to feed them with as I currently have a designed chart for different batches at their different stages in growth.
More update on the Rodeo loading...
Thanks once again. I've been pondering on how best to sterilize soil lately both as a starting medium and on-field. So after pasteurizing your soil and planting, how do you deal with soil pathogens in the farm when you eventually transplant? |

Application method is broadcast.

Best for maize farmers that dry their maize. You sell at a high price and poultry farmer and companies rush your produce.
Below are pictures from my farm and when I applied it. What's the active ingredient of this aflasafe? |

okoroemeka: my dear pistols,it's obvious to everyone that there are things you know that cannot be learnt by simply reading E-books,it was learnt the hard way,the farmers way,it's is just impossible for you to be an E-farmer,I don't think you are one and I am not referring to you,I am throwing caution to intending farmers that believe people like PD that says he will plant 24,000 cucumbers in 3 plots(8,000 crops in 1 plots)and then after sucking in many mugus as possible he sold E-books to them @₦3000 and they paid ₦7,000 for a hastly organized seminar.that is an example of an E-farmer that planted 200 crops in his backyard and suddenly becomes an agricultural consultant, for the records I have not said or will say that watermelon cannot be done or be profitable,I am only advising intending farmers not to believe everything they read and to do more in depth research before sinking hard-earned money on any white elephant project, but seriously cucumbers are something else,I am yet to see a crop that can generate ₦100k+ in 60 days from half plot of land at ₦3000-2500 a bag.,even cannabis don't come close. Really? Are cukes this bae? I thought my dear cannabis was king and the coolest invention after sliced bread. |

okoroemeka: I never said that melon will not work, just that intending farmers will be more careful and presice when planning towards it,after all my novice farm friend harvested almost 1000 balls and sold ₦ 450 wholesale farmgate from his small farm, what is importa nt is to share ideas on how best to make it work,I know I am not a Hi-Tech farmer but sometimes low key solutions is needed to solve a primitive and localized problem,so far the 3 major problems we had in our melon farm was(1)manual weeding caused mysterious plant death and wilting,(2) irrigation on leaves caused massive yellowing of leafs and plant die offs(3) animals simply love the balls and one nibble the fruit is spoilt, this are 3 major problems that we encountered so for 1 and 2,I think pre emergence herbicides and drip irrigation will sort that out,but no3 is an issue no seed co or consultants will even think about, until you plant in an area with high density of squrriels, rats, grasscutters, porcupines, antelops, etc,my friend got the solution by default in planting high crop density and getting a lush impetratable green wall,we are also planning to do melon again after we finish with our pepper transplant, but this time it will be in sacks, with good irrigation and staked,I am a farmer and any ideas that can help us to improve is always welcome. Nice one, Jasper. This is exactly what you said. How it was misconstrued into something else is still an anathema to me. I really admire your composure when it's understandable if you had reacted angrily. I've seen many people call "watermelon" Ogbanje. There's always an iota of truth in a general rumour. The same way Monalisa is terribly bad to him. Imagine cultivating the cultivar at this time. Expert bush practical farmer wey no fit choose the right cultivar for the right season. Expert wey himself wrote that tomato is terrible and he cannot do it. That tomato is so difficult meant everyone should be aware that it is no go area. Lol. How can watermelon be easy? If watermelon is too hard, then golden melon is "touch not my annointing". A beg, make a carry myself commot. Must person be able to do everything? That I or you cannot do it does not mean others cannot. So, leave it at that. You are not good in it. Finish! Expert indeed! Mono crop farmers can argue too much. I am not also not good in everything, and I will not start saying a particular crop is terrible. What I always do is to hunt for people who know about it, lay my complains, and get tips. And if I find the crop is not just my style after talking to people, I always say It's not my style. And not that it is a terrible crop. So frustrating with my present health issue, and I could just blast a farm, and ask selected ppl to visit and take all the pictures in the world to post for all "show me your picture" cos if you are expecting pics from me, you will not get them. We don pass that stage. Prove what to you? Lol. E farmer dey tell am wetin go happen even before he got to the stage....didn't we tell the so called expert Monalisa was not a good cultivar for this season with less downy mildew resistance before he started. The same proverb he used for us we go use back for am. "One eyed man wey dey lead blind people be king" in their world
Practical farmer that keeps justifying cultivating same crop in same area. Why will cancer not kill because of over bombarding crops with chenicals? Crop rotation na agric science in primary school we learned am. Abi no be so? So, the readers too no get that from elementary education, but followed the practical chemical farmer who then resulted to abusing Metalaxyl and bombarding the field with chemicals. Who sprays such consistently like Mancozeb? Only on nairaland. It is well. We will not die of chemical cos of nairaland by God's grace. It's true, one should start getting really scared of eating vegetables in Nigeria these days.
