Cos he also said it takes longer to get 1kg in plastic pond unlike if its an earthen or concrete pond which will lead to spending more on feeds

that size should be okay with good water mgt. Earthen is the suppose best,others growth depends on area surface,water volume, feed,mgt etc.

Do you advise that I stock 70 because I'm just starting or because more fishes won't do well in the tank cos someone told me I can rear 200-250 fishes there (the 4 litres to one fish calculation)-don't know how realistic it is though.

200-250 fishes for 1000litres to 1kg? i wont say the person is wrong,but it wont work whether under flow through also. And if it is the breeder,dont mind him/her.

just fingerlings can be Okay,provided you aint sold tiny fishes.

Please I want to start fish farming on a very small scale using a 1,000 ltrs white tank and I have the following questions:

1.Do plastic tanks need to be disinfected with blagdon anti fungai and bacteria before stocking or is washing with warm water and salt enough ?

2.What size of feed should one start to feed fingerlings with or juvenile as some have stated that it's better for a first timer to start with stocking juveniles.

3.Can the multivitamins and aquapro be administered before stocking the pond even if the fishes are not sick?

thank God you have a positive report to inspire others.For your hatchery start small, 1 male 1female to produce,when you successfully hatch(if you have the knowhow,or we could explain),then the mgt of your fries could be what you could possibly relate with farmers on the thread. You succeed through the process,you have D confidence to re-do Until you are vast through your own experiences. Alternatively meet a breeder that is producing minimally from 5000-10,000 monthly(MINIMALLY) i.e 60-120k yrly.Anyone doing less will not be the best to learn from,if you are paying.All the best.

overfeeding increases feeding cost,if not manage appropriately,pollution & could lead to disease outbreak. Possible reason why they could still regurgitate is because your timing is close,you overfed & had not digested. Twice could be enough provided you feed to satiation at each time

possible your timing of feeding is close, twice too could do for them provided you feed them to satiation at each feeding. Overfeeding would increase feeding cost & lower your water quality,which could result in disease outbreak if not probably manage

the individual shelf life or expiring time or period of what was use in the formulation of your local feed and the level of dryness and storage would determine when they expire or losses nutrient. Another thing is though not advisable, there is is an allowance of a short period a feed can be use after the date expires, but NOTE- USE ONLY FEEDS THAT HAD NOT EXPIRED because the nutrient content,digestibility and palatability will still be intact.

The fish treatments I saw in the thread was for grow outs , I couldnt find for fries and fingerlings. Could you please refer me to which page it is.

i cant quote a page except i begin to check. I know we had answered questions in relation to fries treatment on this thread. For your question, you could treat your fries with aquapro against bacteria,it also assist to fight other disease sources,boost their immune & aid survival. It has almost no adverse effect on them. Also important you dont overfeed,remove all waste or leftovers to prevent disease outbreak. Keep clean water also. If any leftover of unhatch eggs? Remove them because they assist the buildup of fungi etc., Also mop slime away with clean & treated foam.Pls dont quote me with any more questions, iam preparing for ......, Though i might come on the thread to read.God Bless.

increase the maize in your feed like 5-7% cause of cold(if there is cold) & add full fat soya to your feed to necessitate size increase(not much so the eggs wont be too big to leave the vent of your birds,that could cause problem). Note- if your birds were not laying & began to lay or relay,it could be so,later it will pick naturally

Just tell them agric lime,use to be between ,4.5-6k a bag depending on location. Dont touch gammalin 20, that chemical had being ban in countries & if you use,it will take a period of time before any fish can survive in that pond & this period in quote could be for a while(can be long period),a bag should do,if you use more,it only enhance d buildup of planktons & wipe out harmful organism,but check cost,hence no need for wastages if you can spread it firmly over the coverage area

The target is melange. I have 3 earthen ponds measuring 40x24x3, 40x20x3 and 40x18x3. All in ft. I know it will gulp alot I have planned for it. Mortality could be btw 50-100 though I couldn't count as they are yet to surface and float. Unless a miracle happened and they are alive. Generally they are doing fine and I moved feeding to tomorrow morning. The transporting medium was a 50L jerrican filled with water a little above the middle mark. I did add a lil red oil as advise. I believe the mortality was as a result of overcrowding because there was no mortality in the jerrican with 500 juveniles. Attached are pics of the juveniles and pond

Finally took delivery of 5000 post Juveniles and juveniles. I had 6 50lts jerricans. I put 1000 in 4 of them then 500 in the remaining 2 jerricans.I recorded some mortality in the 50ltr with 1000 and none in the 500. It took about 4hrs to get to my farm. Guess the number was too many. I learnt my lesson. The juveniles chased after the tadpoles to eat them and alot of them ran out of the pond. Feeding will commence tomorrow. I really appreciate your advise

Thank God. did you count the cost before taking 5000 or are you targeting melange,also what is your pond size? What is mortality figure & how big were the juveniles? lets see your pond & give us the state of your fishes & how you transported them? water volume etc. to have suffer mortality

@igchuks, i dont know the timing from tadpole to frog,but i know before you know it they are all grown up. If the picture i saw is exact size,i think the tadpole should be 2-2.5 inches. A standard or reasonable juvenile should not be less than 4.5 inches in size. Evaluating this,it might be a challenge for the juvenile to feast on them,moreover tadpoles normally in most cases would have higher number on their side. About transportation for just 2-4 hours? let him feed them today,no challenge,but should not feed them on the day you intend to pick them. That distance time not much. I believe the breeder knows that. Ensure you add few drops of palm oil into your water in the jerry can with the fishes to avoid foaming,reduce stress.
About the two feeds,they both have good report.

Please house I will be stocking my earthen pond o Friday with juveniles. I limed it and net it last week and pumped out the water yesterday. After pumping I discovered there were 2 or 3 averagely grow frogs and tapoles. wte killed the frogs but left the tadpole. My concerns:

1. Will the tadpoles serve as food for the juveniles?
2. It appears the liming was not as effective due to the presence of the tadpoles. Though on the very day of application alot died. I don't know how they got in again. Should I be worried?
3.What should I give them to reduce the stress of transportation?
4. As prevention is better than cure. What best practices in terms of medication can one adopt to prevent diseases.

let me answer your questions, the tadpoles would serve as food provided your juveniles in question are well develop in size, because their numbers are usually much and they grow fast into frog,better they are small or your suppose juvenile could be consume if they outgrow them quickly.
the lime was effective, but when you lime and there is water, effectiveness could reduce, in such cases you re-lime. the unhatched eggs during application are what you are seeing now as tadpoles. I would even say, your one week isn't enough time for development of the effectiveness for bloom of plankton in ponds. hence in all, make sure your juvenile is really juveniles or you could loss all(writing with experience).

for transportation, from where to where? whichever distance? ask your breeder to starve them for a day or two(duration depends on how far the distance), but i expect a good or experience breeder to have ask all this taken precaution on the behalf of the buyer. Add a few drops of palm oil to their water so the water doesn't foam and for better transportation medium.

A good fish will not need any medication immediately

Thanks sir. Can I use antibiotics again, cos I've used it once when I stocked, but didn't use after I changed the water.

you can depending on the severity of their state, but aquapro is mild and can be use anytime. Also do not allow water height to be too much if mobile ponds because of their state.
