I went to a friends pond today to see how he runs his farm day to day, (trying to gather info for my own farm)on the farm I:
(1)noticed he uses tap water for his pond ,no treatment or watsoeva of d water he stocked 1000 juveniles and as only recorded 8 deaths and they are 3 months old
(2) he mixes vital feed and aqua lerra (sorry cnt rem d name) feed, his reason is so dey wont b used to a particular feed incase one becomes scare
(3) he feeds d fishes chicken inteintestines
(4) he didn't treat his concrete pond b4 stocking, all he did was fill to the brim ,release the water then stock the pond.

To d professionals here pls make comments and adjustments on my post tanx..

concerning mix of feed,not necessary conclusive to say d least,fishes eat palatable feeds that isn't stuff with junks.Question i will ask is ,what if both feeds are not in market?

we had already mentioned that you can use chicken intestine.Also gave ideas if u are not feeding raw.Using tap water isn't the challenge,the source & treatment from the source is

nothing done that cannot be replicated else where. If you read the whole thread,sometime(could be years back) i wrote that u can just fill yr pond with water to flush.

i dont sell my brother,i only talk about its efficiency,i dont deal in sales of any product,but fishes & that is when i produce myself. I even learnt a lesson recently that any area out of ones dealing one should steer clear off it or sacrifice to assist could cause one challenge & losses. So my brother,i dont sell sir. I would even encourage that you all begin to do personal research & you could discover a possible replacement. So you will never be bereaved of alternative

Hello house! Please help me on what to do, I am really frustrated... I stocked 500 juveniles in earthen pond about 6weeks ago but Monitor lizards are eating up these fishes even though I net the pond. They keep tearing the net and eating the helpless fishes. I was advised to set traps for them which I did but the trap didn't catch.

why speed up? give livestovit,if local feed?maybe not palatable. Let their water be reasonably clean

you only use the poo as a supplement,not a replacement,except maybe in large earthen ponds,not ideal in small ponds

when you see your water foaming,you can reduce or avoid such & drop them gently etc.

practical experience,not manual.How old are your fishes,how often do you sort. Sorting stress fishes & if not stressful,no loss. So work on the management well,it will reduce,till no losses. You have your solution sir

focus on the simple ones,always good to master one before stepping for alternatives. for now daphnia,artemia & 0.2 is much to work on. When you master that, if all is lacking,then the baby milk or egg white comes handy. As i had stated earlier,build on your experience,acquiring all knowledge,can complicate your mgt practice.

maybe you scare some with your question,because you said your oga use 0.2 at times. Now let me give you an answer we all know. Diaphnia is great,if you can lay your hands on it,unlike feed,it doesn't pollute water & has a high water content with protein that fries could easily digest. For artemia,it also fall into that category,but it is dry matter as your 0.2 feed. If original,also not overfed, your fries could perform on it & one challenge about 0.2 is if you dont verify expire date,some are expired. You can do 0.2 straight if you manage feeding well. Interest you to know that you could use egg white or baby milk & depending on growth response,i personally dont wait on sizes,at times 10-14 days artemia,then 0.5. So my brother,people are busy,maybe join agricnetwork or those in whatsapp group if your answer delays

no need to apologize, just keep 400-450 at least for your table size, depends on location,could be less if sound mgt & for melange,keep 60% of that. Even price are changing,due to changing economic parameters. Just start reasonably if a fresher & endeavor to study someone before you think you can do it. In agriculture 1+1= 2 or 1+1= 3.5 or 1+1= - 2, which of the above is based on management,technicalities or available funds

if pregnant & fertile or matured. Just try to cross with the regular ones to get the best characteristics from both produce in your offspring. But try to disinfect because they could have lot of germs that could easily be transfer to your fries. When i was in benin sometime ago to train a nairalander,after his complain that all the broodstock he purchase was giving no result,i asked him to take me to their market that i will show him something,we bought some fishes i selected & use to hatch. The lesson is all fishes,fertile & mature will produce,performance will be on the genetics of the parent stock i.e. the male & the female use in bréeding with mgt.

first medication is clean water. Antibiotics eg fishcure etc.,but if you use aquapro,it could save you from most sickness provided water mgt is okay. Your breeder determines a lot if your fingerlings would be stressed or not. He should know feeding on day of transportation will cause disaster,especially on long journey. He should know that a few drops of palmoil would assist to prevent foaming that stress the fishes. He should know that the fishes going very long journey eg from lagos to maiduguri should undergo fasting like 2-3 days otherwise disaster looms. He should advice u not to feed your fish seeds immediately after arrival & when you are to introduce to ponds ,that u do gently because of shock etc.You can even decide to feed lightly on first day etc. Another initiative is to add fresh water at interval

Who made you a failed fishfarmer? that it didn't work well initially,is to educate you that somethings wasn't done well,it might even be your fish seeds. So be encourage, the Truthful ones will tell you they had faced one challenge or the other from their expliots. For price keep 400,so as not to fear,the left over,you keep. Dont buy all your feed at once,buy in batches. Introduce aquapro & livestovit in your regime this time

Heard that catfish is a rugged fish and should not die the way i've experienced @Excelsiorfarm, how can I tell if the water I'm using has chlorine or too much iron in it...I am using well water.

catfish is rugged & can tolerate harsh environment for a while,but not hetero spp. Aerator is useful for addition of oxygen,but the best are aerator with fine bubbles. It aids fish health etc. No special construction,just the pipe connection, water with chlorine can be detected by smell,taste,use of test kit or laboratory. For iron,if left for a while,you see rust like sediment or brownish red,for heavy case,laboratory or kit for trace quantity.
