PoliticsRe: Anti-amotekun Protest Rocks Ekiti by executive12: 7:48pm On Mar 17, 2020
seunmsg:
The group’s coordinator, Mr Adeshina Animasaun is a card carrying member of PDP. He was a member of the State House of Assembly from 2015 - 2019 during the Fayose administration. In fact, he served briefly as deputy speaker of the house of assembly.

Instead of hiding behind a proxy group, Ekiti PDP should just come out openly and protest against Amotekun. The same PDP that were at the forefront of calling out Tinubu to take a position on the outfit are now protesting against it by proxy. They are simply concerned about politics instead of the overall security of the region.
He may be a PDP member but I don't think that is why he is opposing. Oyo State Governor is PDP and is on board. The Animashaun guy may be fronting for the Miyetti Allah.

Yeah right Shettima Yerima, clap for yourself. You don't trust an Igbo for President because Nnamdi Kanu is calling for separation. But your brother, the confirmed tribalist Buhari is openly implementing fulanization agenda. And we, the non Fulanis, are expected to trust himhuh
Nigeria may implode in 2023 and there might be no need for election then.

Agreed, Sanusi is not the messiah, and yes, he probably won't make a good leader of Nigeria...but on fuel subsidy he was right. It has to go.

1. Subsidy is the reason why most of the people who have collected refinery licence are not building refinereis. Because, no one is going to refine fuel above N145 and sell it below that price sans profit. How will they pay workers, create jobs, pay off bank loans taken to build and improve the refinery, and invest in the same refinery.

2.Subsidy is the MAIN reason why fuel smuggling takes place on our borders. When all our neighbors sell fuel at N300 and above (yes, you can check the info, I am not lying)...why won't any greedy businessman go and smuggle fuel across the border?

3.Subsidy is the reason why NNPC refienreis are in a bad state...because when you force NNPC to use their money to pay for the subsidy...and when you make it difficult for NNPC to make a profit from refining...in the name of subsidy( remember the actual cost of refining fuel cannot be below N150 per liter)....NNPC cannot make improvements, and cannot build and expand existing refining capacity...so the refinereis go to waste. Add the fact that NNPC is run as a government enterpirse.

4.Subsidy is full of corruption, stealing subsidy scams and so on. Because it was, until Buhari stopped it (by creating another problem, see no 3)...a means for marketers to scam the government millions of naira, because government was forcing them to sell at a fixed price...instead of letting market forces force down the price.

5.Subsidy is the reason why we flare gas , and why we have massive pollution. Because when you force people to improt fuel at a high price, and sell at a low price (IE...import at N200..and sell at N145 and pay the difference)...where is the money going to come from to improve pipelines, and fund investment in gas processing?

6.Subsidy is the reason why education is poorly funded. And health. Some of the trillions (don't be deceived by the N430 billion...that's just estimated subsidy cost...which might shoot up when the oil price goes up again...for now, thank God, oil is low)....we spend on susbdiy could have gone on health care or educaiton. But no...

Look, if we want investment in our oil sector...which means jobs, and improved revenues ...which benefit the...wait for it....the POOR....suibsidy has to go.

When GSM came to Nigeria, we paid N10000. People complained. People called on Obasanjo to subsidse the cost of GSM. Obj refused to listen to them. Today, GSM is growing, and there are jobs that would never have existed that now exist. Why are we sabotaging our petrol sector because 'we are an oil producing economy'.....why are we expecting to live like the UAE..and Saudi Arabia who produce far more oil than we do for a population of 11MILLION and 10 million respectively...while we have 200million.

If we don't run our economy like a capitalist economy, and keep on running it like a Marxist economy in the name of 'we are poor' the debt and borrowing will continue. Be3cause with oil prices chronically low since 2014, I doubt we can continue subsidizing everything. Yes, poor people will suffer. Yes, my pocket would be hit hard., Yes, I am asking for suffering...but the long term benefits of subsidy removal will benefit us greatly.
I am definitely against fuel subsidy. It does not make economic sense. However, I don't believe it's the reason that the refinery licence holders are not building. After all, Dangote is building.
Most of the guys that rushed to obtain the licences did not have the financial capacity to build.

Who is this one that referred to monarchical system as primitive. Well, it could be in some places. I suppose your lack of sense of history caused you to make such statement. Monarchies play different roles even in modern society depending on circumstances and the historical pedigree of the monarchy itself. Can we refer to a monarchy like the Ooni of Ife as primitive and irrelevant in modern day Yoruba land. That's unlikely because Yoruba people are still tied to their spiritual traditions, for which the Ooni stand as the spiritual head. This globetrotte to connect people of Yoruba descent in different parts of the world. Point to a single governor in Southwest, a minister or a president in Nigeria that have made just one of such important trips.
Monarchy has no useful role in a modern democracy, period. In Nigeria, we have the Local, State, and Federal Governments. We have no need for Monarchy. Prof Kperogi is right.

You probably didn't follow the procedure.
Exactly. NERC definitely works. It may take time though. In pursuing a complaint, NERC advises customers to keep paying part of their bill they agree with. You must be paying something every month.

Ladies and gentlemen, do not allow yourself to be cowed by any DISCO.
NERC works, efficiently. What all these DISCOs bank on is your ignorance of that fact and the psychological pulverization they cause by issuing these outlandish bills.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Write a petition to the business manager of the unit covering your area. The letter must clearly state what you want. Specifically request for the review of your bills starting from a specific month.
Give details of your power supply if you can. Just make everything clear so they cannot deny by virtues of ambiguity. Attach all relevant bills.
When you go to submit the letter, make a photocopy. Demand that they sign "received" on the photocopy. Keep that copy intact!
Give the DISCO 15 working days, then write to NERC forum covering your area.

Again be very precise. Ask for a review and refund of excess bills you have been paying. There is not time limit: you can ask for review for 3 years back onwards.
Attach all the bills, the letter you wrote to the DISCO (remember that signed photocopy?) and any other relevant evidence (in my sojourn at NERC Ibadan against IBEDC, I calculated my normal energy consumption based on average power supply and the gadgets in my apartment and attached it to my letter)
NERC will invite you for arbitration with your DISCO. Be prepared, remember you will be arguing against crooks.
In my case the excessive bills was wiped at NERC Ibadan.

For my Lagos apartment, I got a refund of about 250k after i wrote for a review and refund of 6 months bill or thereabout.

Note that it is a continuous struggle. Even after NERC has ruled in your favour the DISCO will act reasonable for a while then return to the exhortionist billing (a crook will always be a crook). Dont worry, give it time to make the fight worth your while then start over again, you will get your refund.

How fast NERC attends to your petition depends on the work load. In Lagos, it took almost 5 months, while at Ibadan, it was just 3 weeks.
But both times I got my money either back or debt deleted.

PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE EVERYWHERE.

WE NEED TO MAKE DISCOS responsible by showing them that they are wasting their time.

P.S: Thinking about it now, my petition to NERC Lagos took about 3 months to achieve an effect, not 5 months.
I wrote in February 2019 and the issue was resolved before the May bill (April energy consumption) was delivered.
Period reviewed extended from November 2018 (my specific request)

PPS: The extortionist billing started after about 2 months. I have been paying it because it has not been worthwhile petitioning against.
It has been 10 months now and the amount has become worth fighting for so I have begun another process with the submission of the petition to EKEDC.
Counting down to 15 days!
I agree completely with you about the NERC. I got my bill wiped by the EKEDC after the NERC contacted them on by behalf, based on my petition. And they assured the NERC that they will install a prepaid meter for me. It took about 9 months though. But it's worth the effort and time. I tried getting my neighbors to join me in writing the petition but they were not interested. They did not believe it would amount to anything. Now my bill is about #4,500/month while my neighbors are getting #19,000/month.

What does that have to do with overestimating bill of an innocent customer?

I went to complain in their district office and thats what they were telling me. I asked them whether i was the one who bypassed the meter?
This is how the billing is calculated: There is a Feeder with Meter that serves a given area. At the end of the month, the Disco staff will go to the central Feeder and read the total amount of energy consumed by the customers in that area. Then they will subtract the total amount recharged by the Prepaid Meter users. The balance is shared among the estimated bill customers, usually equally.
So, if a lot of the Prepaid Meter users cheat (and most of them do), the bill for the estimated bill customers will increase.
So the Discos are basically holding the estimated bill customers responsible for the cheating being carried out by their neighbors. It's unfair but that's what's going on. The Discos need to find a way to catch the cheaters and penalize them.
In any case, if you are aware that a neighbor is cheating, it will be in your interest to report them. The cheating is not only when they are tampering with their meters. It could be someone operating a mini factory from their house. That would increase the bill for the neighbors and needs to be reported. No Mr Nice guy or Ms Nice lady here.

Were they officially informed in writing, that the flat is empty? When a flat becomes empty, the landlord is supposed to write the DISCO to inform them. Otherwise, they will continue to send bills. The landlord should go see them and explain.

The last time I paid was on December 2018, I told them I no longer need their services and I'm making my sales just fine. At home I use a customized prepaid meter whereby only the electric bulbs and fans read in the meter while all switches including fridge, cooking plates, iron, television are connected direct, no matter how they try they wouldn't find out so 2k card last more than a month for us. A quite big house
In other words, you are bypassing the prepaid meter. You are the reason your neighbors are getting excessive estimated bills. You will eventually be caught and made to pay a hefty fine.

That would be majority of the prepaid meter users. That is why the DISCOs are charging excessive estimated bills.

Mine is N99,000 plus. Thank God it's a rented house so I just pay my flat rate of N3,500 every month
While you should continue to pay the #3,500, you should write a complaint to the DISCO for adjustment. If no positive response, escalate to the NERC. As soon as the NERC contacts them, you should get a positive response from the DISCO.
For the DISCOs, the fear of the NERC is the beginning of wisdom.

The US should immediately cancel the plan to sell military attack helicopters to Nigeria under the criminal and bigot Buhari. They should retain the money already paid by Nigeria and refund it to the next administration in 2023 (if Nigeria will still remain one country by then and if election was properly conducted).
They should place travel visa ban on all the Service Chiefs, including the IG of Police. Visa ban should also be placed on the quota system CJN. The family of Buhari should also face visa ban. Buhari himself should face assets seizure. Those miscreants who come online to support the bigot Buhari should be exposed and slapped with visa bans. These are the best ways that President Trump can help Nigeria.
