The House of Representatives says it will investigate how the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), deals with seizures, disposal of drugs and prosecution of offenders from 2000 to date. The House, on Wednesday in Abuja, also urged the NDLEA to halt further destruction of seized drugs and the impending auction of seized assets and properties of drug offenders pending the conclusion of the investigation.

This is sequel to a motion by Rep. Muhammad Soba (Kaduna-APC), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote. Moving the motion, Soba expressed concern that the NDLEA, in the last 10 years, had not given adequate account of seized drugs, assets and properties of offenders estimated at N35billion.

The lawmaker said NDLEA was about to dispose of hard drugs and auction some seized and forfeited assets of drug offenders in the next few days. A Sudanese man who was caught raping a goat was forced to marry the animal » in line with a law in that country that stipulates that any man caught sleeping with a woman who is not his wife must marry her to save the honour of her family. So when Charles Tombe was caught in the act while having sex with the female goat, he was made to consummate the 'love' relationship with it to save its honour as a form of restitution.

On the day of the bizarre wedding, he and his 'bride' were clad in matching outfits as they walked before the village council to celebrate the happy union, after he had paid a dowry to the owner of he goat. The goat’s owner, identified as Mr Alifi, said he was the one who caught the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders and the council ordered Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Alifi.

“We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together,” Alifi said. Alifi, of Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Tombe with his goat.

All things considered, the lady, named Bukky Lawal, has been captured by the Nigerian police after a formal grumbling was held up taking after the report on social media.

Authorities from the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation went by the Ikorodu home of Bukky and her little girl Ore in the wake of learning of the occurrence. Editor’s note: Adelaja Adeoye, a Lagos-based blogger and a commentator on social and political issues, talks about one of the bills proposed by the Nigerian Senate, An Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Related Matters. Who exactly is the bill targeting, and what has prompted the Senate to start considering the law that would prohibit distributing certain kinds of comments and information? Will the bill actually limit our freedom of speech?

One would naturally wonder why the writer choose to go with this kind of heading at a time when there are many disgruntled Nigerians youths trending a hashtag #NoToSocialMediaBill which the legislative arm of Nigerian government is looking at passing and make it a law to criminalize any frivolity and libel on the social media.

Let us critically look at the root cause that necessitated the Senate to take the option of sanitizing the Nigerian social media. Nigeria is a country that practices democracy since the handing over of power from the military to civilian government in 1999 when the ex-head of state, General Abdusalam Abubakar, passed power to another military man, General Obasanjo, in civilian Agbada.

From my knowledge, there can’t be a smoke without fire no matter how little the fire may be. Let us look at the past events. After the death of ex-president Yar’Adua, his vice Goodluck Jonathan became president of Nigeria in 2011 after another election was conducted, and since that time, social media has been so popular in use by Nigerian people, most especially the youths.

President Jonathan became a victim of circumstance in the hands of the opposition, especially the then-Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) that has now merged with other parties to form the All Progressive Congress (APC) just because they wanted to dethrone him from power. The APC is a party that knows how to explore media, including TV, radio, print and social media to advance their campaign, messages, propaganda and other information they want to sell to millions of Nigerians.

The APC quickly identified some Nigerian blogs such as Sahara Reporters, Premium Times, Omojuwa’s blog and those of some other individuals who pride themselves as social media influencers, such as Kayode Ogundamisi, Tolu Ogunlesi, and host of others to do the hatchet jobs for them.

The social media wahala started when the former President Jonathan made a move to remove fuel subsidy in 2011-2012. The opposition mobilized youths, CSO and Labour Congress against the then-administration by inciting Nigerians against them, saying PDP/Jonathan’s government wanted to suffer Nigerians. They even went to sponsor and organise protests, rallies and carnivals in Ojota, Lagos, to lock the country down as they were able to get the NLC to declare a total strike actions that paralyzed the nation’s economy until Jonathan stopped his plan to remove fuel subsidy.

After the president was able to contain the protest and violence, as if that was not enough, just to paint PDP/Jonathan’s government a bad and corrupt government, the now-APC mobilized their media machinery to continue blackmailing. They used print media, radio and TV stations in Lagos and other part of the country to advance their cause.

Shortly, new media were introduced to join the plot. Sahara Reporters, other names such as the ones mentioned above, began to tweet, retweet, post on Facebook and other social media platforms anything anti-Jonathan to mislead gullible Nigerianson a daily basis. The then-opposition members, even some notable personalities such as Dele Momodu, joined them in doing this.

The Nigerian segment of the Internet was not in any way gagged by Jonathan’s administration. Jonathan was called all sorts of names by the people who are not even qualifies to clean his shoes, not to talk of standing face to face to talk to him. Omojuwa and his ilk called Jonathan a pig, and the APC fans were very excited to retweet his bile. Ogundamisi would twist facts to suit his own purposes and had tried on many occasions to use social media to cause violence between the Igbos and Hausas.

Sahara Reporters are habitual liars who specialize in breaking fake news, libel and blackmail against politicians in Nigeria, those who are in opposition to their sponsors or promoters. Nigerian people are known too quick to react on impulse to fake news.

One must be very careful at this point on how to support or go against the plans of the federal government through the Senate to sanitize how its citizens use the social media in Nigeria. It is a known fact to all and sundry that the APC used these cyber characters to peddle lies, propaganda, and misinform the Nigerian populace prior to the 2015 general elections, and the plan worked perfectly. The APC were able to use them to gain cheap popularity and push all kind of narratives on the social media.

Now, the same APC are afraid that if these guys are not quickly checked, they may turn out to be uncontrollable monsters in their neck, just like those who were supporting Boko Haram morally to gain power. We all know the effect now.

Let us also look back at how the now-governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, was brandishing all kinds of allegations and lies on social media against Jonathan, his ministers and friends. He made sure he filled the heart of Nigerians with hatred. He posted many fictitious and outrageous figures on government’s expenditure that had naturally prompt anger amongst Nigerians. He posted several times that Jonathan was the promoter and brain behind the deadly Boko haram on the local and international media.

The Lagos State Government has urged parents and guardians to caution their children to desist from the use of fireworks popularly called 'banger or crackers' during the festive period, as authorities will deal with whoever is caught decisively.

The General Manager LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele, stated this on Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Alausa. He said sellers of the products will also face the full wrath of the law if apprehended.

He added that a special team comprising the agency, the police and other security operatives has been mobilized to arrest offenders within the ambit of the law for prosecution.

It would be recalled that on December 26, 2012, a fire outbreak at Jankara market was caused by the storage of fireworks in some of the shops, which caused deaths and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

The Federal High Court in Lagos state on Tuesday, December 1, granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining the attorney general of the federation and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) from taking over the properties of the embattled Senator Buruji Kashamu.

According to Leadership, Justice Ibrahim Buba, stated that the attorney general and the NDLEA have no authority to interfere with Kashamu’s right to own property in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world on the basis of the allegation by the United States government or any other person over his alleged complicity in the unlawful importation of prohibited narcotics substances into the United States of America.

The judge had on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, prevented both the attorney general and the NDLEA from extraditing Kashamu to the United States to face alleged drug-trafficking charges.nWhile the case is still before the Court of Appeal, Kashamu has filed another suit before the same judge, alleging that the NDLEA and the attorney general are about to seize his properties, which includes a 24-flat housing estate at Egbe and several hectares of land on Lekki Peninsula, Lagos state, worth over N20bn.

The attorney general had insisted that the embattled senator’s suit is premature and an abuse of court processes in a preliminary objection,urging the court to dismiss it. Meanwhile, the appeal filed by Senator Buruji Kashamu at the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, Oyo state, contesting the nullification of his election in the March 28 senatorial poll suffered a setback on Tuesday, November 24.

Kashamu had been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to represent Ogun East senatorial district at the National Assembly. Yoruba actress, Yetunde Bakare while recalling part of the challenges she faced as an actress, disclosed that her skin colour almost ruined her career as she was not getting movie roles like the fair skin actresses.

She told Punch News that she had once nursed the thought due to the pressure she got in the industry but later hoped for better days ahead since she’s got the talent.

On ever wanting to be a fair skin lady, she had this to say:

“Yes, I once thought of it and it was due to the pressure in the industry. Nobody will recognise you if you’re not light-skinned and flashy. Getting jobs will be a bit difficult because, according to the audience watching movies, most of them prefer fair ladies but it didn’t bother me because I’m good at what I do. Being fair without talents is a total waste.”

The actress also pointed out that if given the opportunity to enlarge any part of her body it will be her backside.

“I have moderate boobs already so I’ll prefer a big booty and more hips just like a Jamaican’s curvy shape. Not seen in public since her christening in July, two photos of the fourth in line to the throne, Princess Charlotte, was released today by Kensington Palace as a thank you to the British media for giving William and Kate's children the chance to grow up away from the spotlight. The photos were said to have been taken by her mother, Kate.

1. Cyber Cafe

It’s more than a popular cliché that the only constant thing in life is change. Lagos is no exception to the idea of change as a lot of things come and disappear. With the advent of technology, a lot of things even change quickly and they are only remembered in the memory lane. 10 years ago, cyber cafes were the meeting points for people who wanted to engage in any form of internet communication and engagements.

They were almost in every streets and corners of the city. Online registrations for exams were exclusively carried out in cyber cafes. It was almost unthinkable to submit a job CV through a mobile phone. Internet fraud was also rampant and carried out in cyber cafes in Lagos. It got to a point when anyone seen in a cyber café in Lagos was considered an internet fraudster in search of a mugu to defraud. Now, only a sprinkle of cafes exists and these ones combine it with other forms of businesses. Mobile internet has taken over as the first point of connecting to the web.

2. Keke Napep

The tricycle, popularly known as keke napep in Lagos has always been around but was seen as a last option as a means of transportation for Lagos commuters. With the ban on commercial motorcycle in most areas of the city, the keke napep suddenly began to flourish. It didn’t just replace the okada but also competed with commercial buses as a desired means of transportation. Ten years ago, no one would even have considered it as a serious means of getting around in Lagos. I once told myself that i would not enter this means of transportation but guess what? lol

3. Internet Cheats

Mobile data subscriptions have become affordable with different plans to suit one’s needs. In Lagos, it wasn’t the case ten years ago when there was a strong rush and desire for cheat codes that would be used to get internet access without paying. These codes usually didn’t last before they become inaccessible but Lagosians are quick to discover other sets of codes. The story is different now though with the advent of chap data subscriptions.

4. Video Club

Over 10 years ago, video clubs were scattered around Lagos and with the growing production of movies, there was at least a new movie to see every day. Weekends were usually busy days for people who managed these clubs as they had a lot of people to rent out movies to at a price and an agreement that these CDs would be returned on particular days. The trend of seeing movies has changed now as people either go to cinemas or see the movies in the home. Sadly, piracy has also contributed to the disappearance of video clubs.

Microsoft came 3rd in the annual rankings made by Millard Brown, with just an inch keeping them from 4th-ranked IBM.
