Actress Yvonne Nelson has complained of receiving threatening messages and warnings from persons who want her to drop the police report she filed against a Nigerian man who recently physically assaulted her at a birthday party.

The actress has lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station in Accra over the threats she received in connection with the recent assault she suffered at the hands of a man whose name was given as Elvis Eze and said to be a Nigerian resident in Accra.

“… By tomorrow morning if we call Accra and find out that you have not closed that case you opened against our brother, then we will start our own news; I personally will make sure it happens…,” one of the messages read.

Thirteen people, including six American service members, were killed early Friday when a U.S. C-130 transport plane crashed while taking off from an airport in Afghanistan, a U.S. military official said.
The Taliban claimed it had shot down the aircraft, but the army spokesman said there were no reports of enemy fire at the time and the incident was under investigation. Aljazeera reports that the contractors had been working for “Resolute Support,” a NATO-led training mission.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time a US-military aircraft has gone down in Afghanistan. In 2012, US defense officials reported that an army helicopter, with four people believed to be on board, crashed on a night mission in southwestern Afghanistan. According to the Associated Press news agency, four US troops were aboard the helicopter- an Army Black Hawk.

Officials at the scene said “don’t expect” that any of the four survived. It would be recalled that last year, NATO pulled out most of its combat troops from Afghanistan, leaving only a small contingent of about 10,000 US soldiers. Hamza Musa Kabir from Kano in northern Nigeria survived the massive stampede at the hajj narrated his heartbreaking story to AFP’s Kano correspondent Aminu Abubakar. On September 24, more than 700 people were killed in a stampede outside the holy city of Mecca. The tragedy occurred during the yearly Hajj pilgrimage, which draws about 2 million Muslims to Saudi Arabia each year.

In Mina, where Thursday’s disaster took place, stampedes killed more than 360 people in 2006 and 244 in 2004. In the worst Hajj stampede, 1,426 pilgrims were crushed in a pedestrian tunnel leading to Mecca in 1990.

54 Nigerians died during the stampede during this year’s Hajj. Musa Kabir, recalling the dreadful events narrated his story:

“We set off at sunrise from Muzdalifah and marched towards the Jamarat,” the place in Mina where pilgrims ritually stone the devil. “We were more than halfway through the procession when the road was blocked by the police, which led to buildup (of pilgrims).

“Then the police blocked all the roads, leaving us with only one route. The situation became worse when the police allowed people returning from the Jamarat to use the same route back to their tents,” the 55-year-old tall, thin trader continued.

Why the tragedy happened

“From where I stood, I could see a police officer on a raised platform at a nearby control post beckoning at pilgrims returning that they should move on. “Because those returning were moving in the opposite (direction) of the surging crowd, there was a stampede. “People became weak from suffocation and heat. People couldn’t breathe (in the crush). Many collapsed, mostly women and the old and disabled on wheelchairs.

“I also was pinned down by this huge man I believe to be an Asian. I had to strip myself of my shroud which had become an obstacle to my escape. “I raised my hand and grabbed the shroud of another pilgrim from Nigeria who was already standing on a fence. He couldn’t pull me up because I was pinned down by this huge man.” Kabir desperately grabbed the man’s testicles “and squeezed them which made him jump off me.”

“This enabled me to use my other hand to reach for the metal bar of the fence, and grab it. I then pulled myself up with the help of another young Arab man who was standing on the fence. “I was so dizzy and weak and too weak to walk. I was spread on the floor and another pilgrim, seeing that I had regained consciousness, offered me his other shroud.

“People offered me drink and some food. I then realised that I had been bitten (on) the side, by a young man from underneath. Countless bodies were lying on the floor. Kabir lost his rucksack and most of his belongings except for a small bag around his neck.

“I spent, like, two hours sitting down recuperating,” he said. “After that, I was assisted by another pilgrim from Niger to make it to the Jamarat and carry out the stoning rites. “What I saw on my return to the scene of the stampede frightened me, because I just saw countless bodies lying on the floor covered in white shrouds, and I knew I could have been one of them.”

25yr old Rose Mbula left Kenya in November 2014 for India in search of greener pasture before she mysteriously went off the radar only for her mother to get a call from the Kenya High Commission in India who told her that Rose fell off a skyscraper and shattered her skull.

She went into surgery immediately to stop the bleeding but the skull had to be preserved in her stomach for future retrieval. According to Rose Mbula's aunt, Florence Ndolo, the family requires Sh1 Million to retrieve part of her skull from her stomach in order for a reconstructive surgery to be conducted. The Commission could only cater for the emergency surgery cost and not the operation that would follow because apparently Ms Mbula had not registered with them upon moving to India.

"Rose lost her memory in the incident and we hope that we will raise enough money to cater for her therapy. So far we have managed to get Sh143,000 and we hope to achieve the Sh1M goal." said the aunt told Kenya.co

Saudi Arabia’s civil defense directorate has said not less than 300 people have died following a stampede in Mecca. Officials said that the stampede which took place on Thursday, September 24, left no fewer than 400 others injured.

The stampede occurred in Mina, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca when over 2 million pilgrims observing the annual Hajj pilgrimage, who spent the night in the plain fields of Muzdalifa, began trooping to the Jamarat as early as 3am local time.

There are speculations that the stampede took place during the “stoning of the devil ritual.”

Al Jazeera’s Omar Alsaleh,who is on ground said: “This is only the initial number … The Hajj season was already overshadowed by the crane accident that killed 107 people and wounded more than 200,” Alsaleh said.

“The area has turned to a big massive construction site to allow more pilgrims to visit Mecca during Hajj.”

As of the time of filing this report, aid workers were still conveying the injured and the deceased pilgrims to hospitals close to Mina.

A 21-year-old student Enki Bracaj, was hoping for a reporting job on an Albanian TV station and it seems her weird interview approach worked because she landed an anchor role after performing a screen test for the Zjarr news channel in Albania by auditioning with her blouse completely undone. Wearing a cream blouse, the woman sat with the whole front gaping open as she practiced her news slot. And after her bizarre performance, she managed to walk away with the job.

A spokesperson for the channel said:

“Most agree that her presentation style is somewhat awkward, but we are working on that and to be honest it doesn’t seem to be doing any harm to her viewing figures.” And Enki has simply described the stunt as “a way to put myself ahead in a competitive industry”. “It is not easy to enter the world of television.”

“It was obvious that if I wanted to make it I had to be brave and offer something different.
“I checked first with my parents and when I found that they also supported me in my decision, it wasn’t a problem for me to go ahead like this.”

Eiye Cult Leader Anarchy Killed In Bariga Lagos During Gun Battle With Police.A suspected cultist leader identified as Anarchy was on Tuesday killed by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. Anarchy was gunned during a shoot out between the cult group and the police at the Bariga area of the state.

The deceased, who was said to have been on the police wanted list for a long time, allegedly led his gang members to Bariga for a cult war, but were intercepted by policemen. We gathered that the cult group opened fire on the policemen who retaliated and in the process, Anarchy sustained gunshots injury.

Confirming the development, the state’s Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said Anarchy died while he was being rushed to the hospital. He said: “The police got a distress call from Bariga about rival cult groups engaging in superiority battle. “Some of the cult members were led by Anarchy, a notorious cultist who has been declared wanted and has since gone into hiding.

By now, most people know about the Bank Verification Number, commonly referred to as BVN. The BVN scheme is the registration of customers in the financial system using biometric technology.

Biometric technology involves the process of recording a person’s unique physical traits - such as their fingerprints and facial features. This record can then be used to correctly identify the person afterwards. Once a person’s biometrics have been properly captured, the person is given a Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The BVN was introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria to strengthen security within the banking system and reduce fraud the incidence of fraud in the system. Essentially, fraud is reduced because no two person have the same biometric information - each person has his own unique fingerprint or facial features for example. As a result, banks can always check the features of a person doing a transaction to see if those features match the record which they have. In doing this, banks could ensure that they are dealing with the right person.

All bank customers in Nigeria are required to register or enroll for a BVN. To do this, you will need to visit any of your bank’s branches. The Bank Verification Number which is given to a person will apply to that same person for ANY bank in Nigeria; this means that you will have one number which you will use for all banks. So apart from preventing fraud on customers’ accounts, BVN will help the banking system to fish out customers who have been blacklisted by one bank and who run off to another bank.

Because the BVN captures physical features, it is also very helpful for people who cannot read and write, thereby making sure that everyone is included in the financial system.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has given different dates by which different levels of customers must have a BVN. ALL bank customers are however expected to have their BVN by October 2015.

To avoid the long queues, don’t wait till October 31, 2015 to get your BVN
