MOGADISHU, Somalia

The most powerful bomb blast ever witnessed in Somalia's capital killed at least 231 people with more than 275 injured, a senator said Sunday, making it the deadliest single attack in this Horn of Africa nation.

The toll could continue to rise.

The Mogadishu bombing is one of the deadliest attacks in sub-Saharan Africa, larger than the Garissa University attack in Kenya in 2015 and the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.

Doctors at Mogadishu hospitals struggled to assist badly wounded victims, many burned beyond recognition.

"This is really horrendous, unlike any other time in the past," said Dr. Mohamed Yusuf, the director of Medina hospital.

TravelMan Crashes Car And Leaves Girlfriend To Burn To Death In New York by Explorers(op): 6:01pm On Oct 16, 2017
This is the moment a New York man was caught on camera hailing a taxi to leave the scene of a car crash while his trapped female friend burned to death nearby.

The footage shows Saeed Ahmed asking a taxi driver in the middle of a highway if he can get a ride just moments after crashing his car on in Brooklyn on Friday night.

The video, which was shot by a witness and obtained by ABC7, shows his car engulfed in flames in the background.

His passenger, Harleen Grewel, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene after her charred body was found in the front passenger seat by firefighters at the scene.

Ahmad was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway before his 2007 Infiniti G35 hit a barrier.

He is said to have escaped the burning wreckage before flagging down the taxi to take him to hospital, leaving Grewel behind in the burning car.

Saeed was later arrested at a hospital where he was being treated for burns to his arms and legs following the crash.

Ahmad's father has since said he doesn't know what his son was thinking fleeing the scene of the horror crash.

'I don't know what happened yet, I need to see him, talk to him, find out what happened,' Mohammad Azam told the New York Daily News.

He was charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and over speeding.

Foreign AffairsMorocco Is Testing Africa's Fastest Train, Targeting 200mph(Photos) by Explorers(op):
Engineers in Morocco are preparing to test Africa's first high-speed railway this week with trains reaching 320kilometres (200 miles) per hour, the country's rail office said on Monday.

The top speed of the Eurostar slashing journey times between the country’s key economic hubs by almost two thirds.

The 215-mile journey from Casablanca to Tangier via the capital city of Rabat will now take just two hours, rather than five, when the service launches next summer.

One train reached 275kph (170 mph) on Monday along a stretch of track between the northern cities of Kenitra and Tangier, the ONCF said.

'This is already the fastest train on the African continent,' said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, who was in Morocco to sign a loan deal between the ONCF and the French Development Agency.

Morocco's TGV, which gets its name from the French abbreviation for high-speed trains, is set to enter service in summer 2018.

The total cost of the project, 50 per cent financed by France through various loans, is around $2.4billion (two billion euros).

Ange Koutaye Ismael, said he saw four bodies carried out of the plane, which had been broken in two in the shallow waters.

He said he was at home when he noticed a plane flying low over his neighbourhood.

When he heard a plane had crashed on the beach, he ran down to film it.

Stormy weather probably played a role in the crash, he said.He said:

'There was winds yesterday and I saw how planes seemed to have difficulties in getting up.

'Chrisian Kouame, who also lives near the airport, said he was awakened before 7 am by a loud noise.

'We thought at the beginning it was the waves of the sea in the rain, but the cries of our neighbors caught our attention.

When we went out we saw the aircraft broken by the beach.

Airport authorities were alerted and rescue workers were immediately sent to help recover those wounded.'

Science/TechnologyRe: Would You Fly? Boeing Reveals Plans To Test A Self-flying Plane In 2018(Pics) by Explorers(op): 7:27pm On Oct 14, 2017
Jetliners can already take off, cruise and land using their onboard flight computers and the number of pilots on a standard passenger plane has dropped to two from three over the years.

In recent years, there have been several devastating air crashes many of which were found to have been caused in part by the pilot.

And experts believe that improved automation could have helped to avert at least some of these disasters.

On an average flight, the pilots manually control the plane for about three to six minutes, and the rest is autopiloted.

But despite this, a recent report found that only one in six passengers would feel comfortable in a fully automated plane.

Professor Ella Atkins, an expert in aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan, said: 'You're looking at very simple calculations.'Automated systems can use algorithms to determine if, for example, a plane is flying too low 'and if the answer is yes, then the automation can and should stop that accident from happening,' according to Professor Atkins.

Despite this, Professor Rice believes that there are several questions to be answered before self-flying planes take the sky including who would deal with medical emergencies, and whether the system could be hacked.

He added: 'Human beings don't like new things.

'They're afraid, and they let that fear make their decisions for them.

But if you give them a good safety track record, then they'll come around.'

With several firms, including Boeing, working on self-flying planes, it's only a matter of time before the technology takes to the skies, according to a new report.

In the report, experts claim that much of the pilot's job has already been automated, and ditching the pilot altogether could actually lead to safer flights.

Despite this, only one in six passengers say they would feel comfortable in a fully automated plane.

The two-star general who heads U.S. Army Africa has been fired and recalled to Washington, amid allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with the wife of an enlisted soldier, the Army said Friday.

An Army statement provided to The Associated Press said that Maj. Gen. Joseph Harrington was removed from his job due to a loss in confidence in his ability to command.

The private communications ranged from flattering to flirtatious, according to USA Today.

In one instance, Harrington writes that the woman is a 'HOTTIE' and 'looking good for sure,' in reference to her appearance.
