It was an open donation without expecting anything in return. And Atiku wasn't the only one that donated. But he was the only one expecting a kick back such as oil blocks and free tax holidays from Government. When he couldn't get , he has to run back to his old party where stealing is not corruption. And you see the results, just the concluded PDP convention, you know how much he spent to have his ways from the delegates

If Mr integrity truly has integrity he would have never accepted donations from a corrupt Atiku or campaigned with him or used his private jet

We are here we are today, because we support impunity.

Can you point out what Mr ALLEGED integrity has done with the 24 million he gains nationally. An upright person is destroying jobs and the economy and is intellectualy deficient yet an ALLEGED looter a well known entrepreneur and business man who can fix the economy saving millions of jobs wants to run the country and you expect me to go with integrity

A man with integrity will never divide the nation between 97 and 5 percent

With 24 million he cannot even open one business to employ people yet he wants to preside over 140 million people in a nation that generates billions yearly

Politics / Atiku Reveals Agenda For Nigeria 2019 by Ezenwammadu(m): 7:26pm On Oct 09, 2018
Whilst the elites live pampered lives, the vast majority of the population is trapped in poverty and underdevelopment. The middle class has crumbled under the weight of a rent-seeking economic environment. Few can hope for a decent education; there are not enough jobs; infrastructure and public services are inadequate while basic social security has no real meaning. Too many Nigerians live in fear of violent crimes, communal clashes, and savage acts of terrorism. Most feel betrayed by the very institutions that were set up to serve and protect them and by corrupt and self-serving politicians. Indifferent, ill-
equipped, and often brutal security forces and a weak legal and judicial system fuel public distrust of the state and feed into the widely held belief that institutions don't matter.
This must CHANGE!

Politics / IMF Predicts 13.5% Inflation For Nigeria In 2019 by Ezenwammadu(m): 9:17am On Oct 09, 2018
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has predicted that inflation rate in Nigeria will rise to 13.5 per cent in 2019.

The Counsellor and Director of the Research Department, IMF, Maurice Obstfeld, stated this on Tuesday, during the unveiling of the fund’s World Economic Outlook (WEO), at the ongoing annual meetings of the IMF/World Bank, in Bali, Indonesia.

Inflation in the country climbed to 11.23 per cent in August, higher than the 11.14 per cent recorded in July.

However, inflation in Nigeria was estimated to fall to 12.4 percent in 2018, from 16.5 percent in 2017.

Report on New Minimum Wage Ready, Says NLC
“Inflation pressures in sub-Saharan Africa have broadly softened, with annual inflation projected to drop to 8.6 per cent in 2018 and 8.5 per cent in 2019, from 11 per cent in 2017.

“In South Africa, inflation has moderated to 4.8 per cent in 2018 from 5.3 per cent in 2017 with the easing of drought conditions, but is expected to edge back to 5.3 per cent in 2019 as temporary disinflationary effects subside.

“In Nigeria and Angola, tighter monetary policy and moderation in food price increases contributed to tapering inflation.

“In Angola, inflation is projected to fall to 20.5 per cent in 2018 from 29.8 per cent in 2017 and to decline further to 15.8 per cent in 2019,” the IMF stated in the WEO.

The choice before Nigerians in 2019 is a simple one. Nigerians have a choice of electing a lively candidate with a record of providing 50,000 jobs to Nigerians in his private capacity versus the lifelessness (apologies to President Donald Trump) of a candidate under whom Nigeria lost 11 million jobs and became the world headquarters for extreme poverty.

Education / Nigeria Now Has 13.2 Million Out Of School Children – UBEC by Ezenwammadu(m): 4:53pm On Oct 04, 2018
A survey has shown that the population of out of school children in Nigeria has risen from 10.5 million to 13.2 million.

The Demographic Health Survey(DHS) was conducted in 2015 by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and the Nigerian government but the result has not been officially released.

But the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education (UBEC), Hammid Bobboyi, quoted the findings of the survey on Thursday at the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Conference on Out-of-School Children pre-conference briefing in Abuja.

The conference is scheduled to take place in Kaduna October on 10 and 11.

Nigeria is ranked as having the highest number of out of school children in the world.

UBEC had in April this year stated that the 10.5 million figure was no longer reliable as it flagged off the national education personnel audit.

Mr Bobboyi who was represented by the director of social mobilisation, Bello Kaigara, said the 2015 Demographic Health Survey shows that the figure has since increased to 13.2 million.

“If you add the number of children that have been displaced and the increasing number of birth, you find out that our source in DHS conducted by UNICEF published in 2015 reveals the number of out of school children increased to 13.2 million.

“Over the last few years, Nigeria has been besieged by Boko Haram and lots of children have been put out of school”, he said.

Mr Kaigara said the increase has affected the socio-economic progress of the country.

“This is equally affecting the implementation of some education treaties that Nigeria is a signatory to,” he said.

He said it is important to engage traditional rulers who are custodians of culture to help in reducing the out of school children figure.

Similarly, the Education Chief, UNICEF, Terry Durnnian, said the world would not help Nigeria to solve the problem if it does not solve it by itself.

“The number of out of school children calls for serious concern. Nigeria should take on the challenge of reducing out of school children. UNICEF will only lead and support the process of reducing out of school children,” he said.

He said Nigeria accounts for more than one in five out-of-school children and 45 percent of out-of-school children in West Africa.

“Low budgetary allocation to education is a bane to the sector at all levels,” he said.

Crime / Power-drunk Soldiers Torture Woman Who Challenged Them For Driving Against Traff by Ezenwammadu(m): 10:16am On Sep 22, 2018
A sales representative of a mobile phone firm based on Victoria Island, Adetoun Adenuga, says she has yet to get over the torture she went through in the hands of some soldiers from Bonny Camp located along Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island.

Adenuga, said the soldiers, one of whom she identified as Abubakar D, through his name tag, beat her with a horsewhip and slapped her several times.

Our correspondent learnt that Adenuga incurred the ire of the soldiers because she complained that they drove against the traffic along Marina Road, Lagos Island.

It was gathered that the woman wanted to cross to the other side of the road around 8am on Friday on her way to work when a Gulf car, with the number plate, LSD 738 DL, conveying the soldiers almost knocked her down.

Adenuga, who posted her ordeal on her Instagram page, said she managed to take the picture of the car before the soldiers zoomed off.

Sharing her plight with Saturday PUNCH on the telephone, Adenuga said, “I was about to cross the road when a car came from nowhere and almost hit me. The driver was speeding. I was able to escape from getting injured. I asked them, ‘Where are you rushing to?’ I didn’t even know who was in the car. They parked, then I realised they were military men.

“I said, ‘Soldier, you almost killed me as you sped by.’ The speed was too much.’ They were three men and one woman, all of them in uniform. One of them said, ‘Come on; are you stupid?’ I said, ‘Oga, you are supposed to apologise for almost killing me. Do you know the shock of such an incident can actually take my life?’

“They just came down from the car saying, ‘You must be stupid.’ I said, “You’re saying I’m stupid for challenging you for almost taking my life. So are you telling me you will kill me and run away?’ They were going against traffic on a one-way for God’s sake. They beat me black and blue. The woman did not join them. She was by the car. One came with a whip; the other slapped me. My head still aches.”

Adenuga explained that she went to Bonny Camp to report the highhandedness of the military men, but a soldier at the gate denied her entry, telling her that she could not report about an atrocity committed by “soldiers to a soldier.”

“When I posted it on Instablog (an online news platform), someone told me to go to 81 Division. When I got there, I was given a military policeman to follow me to Bonny Camp. They have gone to look for the car. I think some of them are familiar with the car. I have the number plate and I can identify the four of them. One of them that was beating me, I got the name on his tag. His name is Abubakar D.,” she added.

Adenuga lamented that it was disappointing that the soldiers who were supposed to protect the citizens could unleash terror on her, insisting that they must me brought to book.

She said, “I cannot be beaten in my country by soldiers that are supposed to protect my life, all because they almost took my life and I challenged them for speeding. I want them to be brought to book.”

One Somto Uchendu, who commented on Adenuga’s plight on Instagram, said he witnessed the moment the soldiers were about to assault her.

He wrote, “The only time Nigerian soldiers are humble is when they want a free ride. Some of them are not worthy to wear that uniform. I drove pass Marina when the soldiers were about assaulting her. It is a shame on these soldiers.”

Another commentator, Solomon Buchi, said he recalled a similar nasty experience he went through when he saw the teary pictures posted by Adenuga.

“I cried seeing her teary eyed. I also cried the day a soldier beat me up for nothing and told me he would have killed me if he had a gun. Phew. Till today, I remember that scene and I’m scared of having my kids in this country. It’s horrific. God help us,” he stated.

Calls put across to the line of the spokesperson for 81 Division, Lt. Col. Laolu Daodu, rang out. He had also yet to reply to a text message sent to his phone asking for comments, as of press time.

Politics / We Have Moved 10 Million Nigerians Out Of Poverty – Udoma Udo Udoma by Ezenwammadu(m): 5:59pm On Sep 18, 2018
The federal government has boasted that it has moved 10.073million Nigerians from poverty to prosperity.

The minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma made the claim Tuesday while speaking on arrangements for the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#24) held at the conference room of the ministry in Abuja.

He said federal government had taken steps to move over 10 million Nigerians from poverty to prosperity as one of the key priorities of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP by investing in the people.

According to him, the government had provided 8.96million school children under the Home Grown School Feeding Programme; over 297,000 poor and vulnerable Nigerians supported with cash transfer of N5,000; successfully disbursed more than 308,000 loans of N50,000 and above under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and 200,000 Young Unemployed Graduates Empowered through the N-Power scheme , while over 308,000 had been selected for consideration for the second batch.

‘‘We have taken steps towards moving our people from Poverty to prosperity. Indeed, one of the key priorities of the ERGP is investing in our people.

‘‘That objective has been behind many Government programmes, particularly the Social Investment Programme. Under this programme, we have empowered millions of Nigerian youths, women and children.

‘‘To combat hunger and achieve food security, we have raised capital provisions for agriculture from N8.8billion in 2015 to N149.2billion in the 2018 budget. Over N82billion has been disbursed as credit to more than 350,000 farmers under the Anchor Borrowers’ programme. 14 moribund fertilizer blending plants have been revitalized through the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI), with a total capacity of 2.3million metric tons of NPK fertilizer.

‘‘Nigeria’s milled rice production has increased by about 60% and since 2016 eight new rice mills have been brought into production,’’ he added.

The chairman and CEO of NESG, Mr. Laoye Jaiyeola in his opening remarks, explained that the summit scheduled to hold from October 22-23, 2018 in Abuja with the theme ‘‘Poverty to Prosperity: Making Governance & Institutions Work’’, would focus on using governance to lift Nigerians out of poverty.

He assured that the summit would continue to be rallying point for both public and private sectors to various economic challenges plaguing the country.

According to the minister, the focus of the summit will be on good governance as a path to sustainable human and economic development in order to achieve the goals of the ERGP.

On the reason for low GDP growth in the country, he blamed it on insecurity and low oil production and assured that effort was on to meet the growth target.

‘‘We are aware of the fact that the GDP growth in the last quarter was below the estimated target. This is because of the growing insecurity and low oil production but we are working hard to meet our growth target.

‘‘It is important to note that the non-oil sector has been growing. That is why we have been working harder to be where we want to be. We will also work harder on agriculture to address hunger and food insecurity in the country.

‘‘We can’t do everything together. Agriculture was part of last year’s theme. This year is on governance. The ERGP runs on 2020 not focused on election.’’

The Nigerian Economic Summit is organised annually by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria represented by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.

The summit provides a forum for dialogue amongst top policy makers and corporate leaders. It brings together government officials, representatives of the private sector, development partners, the civil society and some members of academia to reflect on issues constraining our national development with the aim of building consensus so as to evolve common strategies and policy frameworks for addressing these issues.
