Nyesom Wike has been declared by INEC as the winner of the Rivers Governorship Election.

Wike who ran under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 886,264 votes to win the polls

At the end of the final collation of the governorship election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wike polled 886,264 votes ahead of Biokpomabo Awara, candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), who garnered 173,859 votes.

The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has rejected the outcome of the election in Imo state.

Nwosu, who reacted to the results of the election so far announced, which put the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emeka Ihedioha, ahead said that the candidate did not meet the constitutional requirements to be returned as elected.

Nwosu said, “The constitution is clear that for a candidate to be declared a winner he must have the mandatory 25 percent spread in at least two-thirds of the number of local government areas in the state.

“In this instance, the candidate of PDP did not meet this requirement as he scored the mandatory spread in only 12 whereas it should be 18. I scored in at least 18 and if he did not meet the requirements, there should be a re-run as required by law.”

Nwosu also alleged widespread irregularity in the three local government areas of Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte.

He wondered why the three local government areas could return such huge numbers in an election that was marred by voter’s apathy.

The AA candidate said, “This result is totally unacceptable and I am calling on INEC to declare the election inconclusive and arrange a fresh election within seven days as stipulated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He also frowned at the conduct of INEC officials, who he alleged colluded with the PDP candidate to inflate the figures in the three contentious local government areas.

He asked the electoral body not to allow officials who have been compromised to be involved in future elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that it would on Thursday issue certificate of return to all candidates elected in the last general election.


The electoral umpire, however, said it would not issue certificate to Rochas Okorocha Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress in Imo West.

According to a statement posted on INEC website and sighted by DAILY POST on Monday, the declaration of Okorocha as winner was made under duress, hence, the reason he won’t be among those billed to be issued certificate on Thursday, March 14.

The event would take place at the Africa Hall of the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

A statement by Rose Orianaran-Anthony, INEC secretary said all candidates are expected to be on ground before 10am.

Even me that arrived my polling unit here in Osun State before 8 am . And the INeC people asked us to queue ,but voting commenced at 8am . I was like the 10th person to vote . And the turn out is even low compared to the Guber election we had in September 2018. More people will surely arrive after I left though. . Majority of the people that voted before I left there voted for APC . I heard their conversations.
