Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, says what governors earn in Nigeria is immoderate. Speaking as a panelist at the dialogue organised by Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism in Lagos on Thursday, Obi told the audience that if he revealed how much a Nigerian governor earns, the outrage would be hotter than what trailed the N13.5 million monthly pay of senators. “None of you knows what a governor earns, quote me anywhere if you know you won’t be here,” he said. “It is something you can’t imagine. You just know the one of senators, and you are shouting, but what if you know that of the governors?” Comparing Nigeria with the US, Obi spoke of the modesty in the earnings of public office holders in America. “America’s GDP is way above Nigeria’s but an American senator earns $174,000 (about N50 million) a year and you can imagine what his Nigerian counterpart earns in a month,” he said. “In America, governors earn according to their state. The governor of California is the highest paid in America, and he earns $192, 000. The smallest state earns $70, 000. But in Nigeria, I can tell you because I’ve been there, the cost of just keeping convoys alone is in millions. And when people ask me why am I saying these things, I tell them that even if we made mistakes yesterday, can’t we correct it today?” Obi said while in power, he reduced the vehicles in his convoy to four, adding that he never used a bulletproof car. “I asked them, why are all these vehicles following me, and nobody was able to explain to me. I didn’t stop it because of them following me, but the cost of maintaining them was high. I asked them why do we need to spend about N30 million fueling these vehicles that 60 percent are empty when following me?” he said. “What is the essence of a bulletproof car? Anyone who wants to kill you would come when you are out of the car. For eight years I didn’t use, and they didn’t kill me.” In 2017, Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, made public details of his state’s expenditure, including security vote. On the payslip shared by the governor, the Kaduna state government paid the governor a net salary of N470,521.74 for the month of February 2017. Obi also noted that politicians are fond of making promises they cannot fulfil when voted into power. “You told us that you are going to solve a problem, and we voted you, and now you are telling us that you met a problem, what do you expect to meet?” he asked. “You shouldn’t tell us the story of what you met there, we do not expect 100 percent result, but 100 percent effort. We voted you because you said you are going to solve this problem.” https://www.thecable.ng/peter-obi-people-will-stop-shouting-over-allowance-of-senators-if-i-reveal-what-govs-earn/ |

Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, on Monday denied involvement in the killings and attacks in Benue State. The Chairman of the group in Benue State, Ubbi Haruna, spoke during a stakeholders meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Makurdi, the state capital. According to Haruna, the allegations that the group was behind the killings of innocent people of the state was “totally misleading.” Haruna said, “The association has always appreciated peaceful and harmonious coexistence between farmers and herdsmen. “Going forward, there will be peace in the state. Let bygones be bygones to allow peace and security to prevail.” Buhari, who is currently in the state is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs, Tor Tiv the fifth, Professor James Ayatse. He will later hold a meeting with major stakeholders at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi, from whence he will proceed to one of the eight displaced persons’ camps in the state. http://dailypost.ng/2018/03/12/herdsmen-killings-let-bygones-bygones-miyetti-allah-beg-buhari-benue-people/ |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that government was deeply worried about the incessant attacks on Benue’s rural communities, and vowed to end the menace “very soon”. Buhari, who met with farmers, herdsmen, government officials and other stakeholders in Makurdi, denied insinuations that he was not interested in what was happening to the north-central state. “I cannot overlook the killings in Benue or any other part of Nigeria. I cannot do that. I am genuinely worried about the attacks in Benue and we are doing everything to end them,” he said. He said that the insecurity in some states was a major concern to his government, adding that concerted efforts were being made to restore normalcy to every part of the country. Buhari said that he was surprised at the revelation that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, did not spend 24 hours in Benue, when he directed him to relocate to the state and remain there till peace was restored. “I am getting to know this in this meeting. I am quite surprised,” he said. He, however, said that the meeting was not the best place to expose the inefficiency of his appointees, and appealed to Benue people to exercise restraint and live in peace with their neighbours. Buhari appealed to the people to pay more attention to farming, especially rice cultivation, saying that rice importation had dropped by 90 per cent since some states embarked on the massive production of the commodity. Speaking earlier, Gov Samuel Ortom appealed to the President to upgrade the ongoing military exercise in the state tagged “Ayem Akpatema”, to a wider operation to effectively curb herdsmen attacks. “If the exercise is upgraded to a wider operation, it will assist greatly in ending the incessant attacks and senseless killings by herdsmen,” he said He urged Benue people to learn to live in peace with other people. Ortom said that many states were currently involved in the massive cultivation of rice, and urged his people to join the trend. Both buhari and ortom are useless nonentities and they must go. Ortom cannot point at any useful project in the state, he cannot even pay salaries. As for bubu everybody knows that dullard is a failure |
A dullish uneducated one . The fact that this man is proud enough to state that he did not know that the igp in not in benue something that everybody knows shows us that he is not only incompetent but lacking in character and mind to even run a farm. Very irresponsible government |

Former Governor of Benue State and serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, George Akume, has informed President Muhammadu Buhari that his people are not happy with him for his cold reaction over the killing of his kinsmen in the state. Akume recalled that Benue people overwhelmingly voted for Buhari in 2015 despite the fact the then Senate President, David Mark, who is a member of the PDP hailed from the state. He called on the president to help end the killings of citizens in the state. He said, “Your Excellency, you could recall that Senator David Mark was Senate President while Suswam was the Chief Security of the State, yet the Tiv people voted for you in 2015. “We have no federal project in Benue State, Ortom does not make law, Benue People made the law, JS Tarka fought for the unity of our country Nigeria, Mr. President the Tiv people are not happy about your reaction towards the killing of Tiv farmers by Fulani herdsman.” Details later… http://dailypost.ng/2018/03/12/buhari-benue-tiv-people-not-happy-akume-tells-president/amp/

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Abuja said Nigerians in the areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency are in the best position to provide correct assessments of the changes that have taken place since he assumed office in 2015. Receiving a delegation from King Salman of Saudi Arabia at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari said his administration was mindful of the three-pronged promises made to Nigerians before the 2015 elections, assuring that he remained undeterred and focused on securing the lives and properties of all Nigerians. “From the very time we came until now, we have been able to do our best, and we remain focused on delivering on our promises,’’ he said. President Buhari told the Saudi Arabian delegation that the priority of his administration had so far been on securing the country, buoying the economy and curbing corruption so that Nigerians would start benefitting from the rich natural and human resources of the country. The president expressed appreciation to the King Salman Aid and Relief Centre, and the Saudi Development Fund for providing relief materials, worth $10 million, to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North-east. In his remarks, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Dan-Ali said the delegation from Saudi Arabia had already visited the Ministry of Defence, Defence Headquarters and taken a tour of IDP camps in Maiduguri as part of their schedule. The leader of the Saudi Arabian delegation from King Salman, Nasser Bin Mutlaq, said the visit and the donation of materials was an extension of the good relations both countries had shared over the years. “We are directed to offer materials and food for the displaced persons in the North-east worth 10 million dollars. We have had a field visit to the places and seen the humanitarian situation ourselves,’’ he added. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/261184-done-best-buhari.html/amp?__ |
