Seems like people have forgot about Fela's opinion about Buhari. Especially, some posters from the SW. People need to learn the history of Nigeria.

Even Ssoutherners are not supporting GEJ (Ibime, Orikinla and I). This GEJ guy has most of his support from the SE because of whathuh Your guess is as good as mine.
GEJ has widespread support throughout Nigeria. Do not allow Nairaland to fool you. Buhari will not win in the SW. He will not win anywhere in the SE or SS.

Nairaland is not a clear representation of Nigeria.

My IGBO brother, why do you not share this sentiment. I await you insight into the matter.
I agree with your sentiment, EzeUche, but I'm sure Igbos were sent to other European colonies in the Western Hemisphere besides British North America, now called United States. What about African descendants in South America and the Caribbean? I'm sure some of them are of Igbo descent.
Of course Igbos were sent to other European colonies such as Jamaica, Bahamas and Belize. I haven't forgot about them either. However, in this thread, I am just going to target African-Americans who are mostly descended from Igbos.

As you may already know, Igbos who come to the U.S. have an easier time blending in with African-Americans, because we all look the same for the most part. Instead of African-Americans focusing on that sankofa journey with the Akan people, they should focus on coming to Alaigbo (Igboland), where they will be embraced and given new names.

So many African Americans are embracing their root e.g Forest Whitaker, Danny Glover, Wesley Snipes etc. It's just a matter of time.
It is just a matter of time when we will have added them to the Igbo race. I see a bright future for us all.

Two shot dead at PDP rally in Abia

Ugochukwu Eke, Umuahia 31/03/2011 01:20:00

Policemen shot dead two people at a campaign rally by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State on Tuesday. One of them died on the spot; while the other died on the way to the hospital.

The rally was held in Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area. Governor Theodore Orji went to solicit for votes when fracas ensued in Okon, Ohafia.

During the fracas, the Police fired live bullets at the people.

According to eye witnesses, the rally was at its end when some party supporters who had converged at the venue accosted one of the government officials for settlement and in the bid to stop them from harassing the government official the shooting ensued.

The witness said, “The police men may have misconstrued the surge as violence against the governor and they opened fire on the people killing one man on the spot while several others were injured.”

Reacting, the PDP Chairman in Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Kingsley Imaga, described the incident as unfortunate.

Spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna said that he was not aware of the development.

Orji yesterday said he was relying on the people to win re-election.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Ben Onyechere, he  said it was wrong for his political opponents to blackmail the presidency “because it is not a sin to have a cordial relationship with the president and his wife.”

He said: “Politics in Abia has outgrown the pettiness of planting people to breach protocol in an animalistic manner of booing the governor with all the risk inherent in such foolery.”

Culture › African-Americans And Their Igbo Roots by EzeUche(op): 9:28pm On Mar 31, 2011
I am simply creating this thread to stress the need for African-Americans to go back to their Igbo roots. As we all know, even though many African groups were enslaved and sent to America, the majority of them sent to the United States were Igbos.

Therefore, I see the need for African-Americans to go back to their Igbo roots. We Igbos have not forgotten about our kin who were taken and sent to a foreign shore.

And I am happy that some African-Americans have taken the steps and are going back to their ancestral Igbo roots.

Investment › Dangote Plans Listing On London Stock Exchange by EzeUche(op): 5:55pm On Mar 31, 2011
Dangote plans listing on London Stock Exchange

Dangote Group says plans are underway for the listing of it’s cement company on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) by December

Dangote cement hit 12.3bn dollars market value in mid-March, making it the largest company in the West African sub-region.

Mr. Joseph Makoju, Special Adviser to the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, disclosed this at the ongoing Business Forum tagged: “Making Nigeria Your Goal”, organised by the UK Trade and Investment in London.
“The proposed listing of Dangote Cement Plc on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) will provide foreign investors with an excellent opportunity to invest in Nigeria,’’  the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Makoju as saying.

Makoju explained the success story of the Group, including its investment profile in Africa and urged UK investors to consider Nigeria as a preferred destination with one of the highest rates of returns in the world.

“The reality of the Nigeria Business Environment is by far better than its perception; doing business in Nigeria can be challenging but it is also quite rewarding,“ he stressed.

Earlier, the Director UKTI Lagos, Mr Peter Stephenson, while commenting on the preparations for the forthcoming elections, described the voter registration as a huge success and a sound basis for credible elections in Nigeria.
He said UK’s target was to double within the next five years, the current volume of trade with Nigeria estimated at about 3 million Pounds.

This, according to him, is in line with the objective of commercial diplomacy being pursued by the government in the UK.

He explained that the event demonstrated that Nigeria was “flourishing and wide open for business’’.
“I urge UK firms that are serious about growing their businesses internationally to consider this market and the wealth of opportunities it presents,’’ Stephenson said.

Participants at the two-day forum were drawn from the  organised private sector in Nigeria, including the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, UK businesses, the banking sector as well as the Nigerian High Commission.

Nigeria to take 'righful place' after April vote: Jonathan

(AFP) – 1 day ago

ABUJA — Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday promised "credible" elections, days before the start of balloting, so that the regional powerhouse would be ranked among the world's respected democracies.
Previous elections in Africa's most populous nation have been deeply flawed and fraught with violence.

"Before now, our elections have been of questionable credibility, but we are determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections, so that we will be accepted and take our rightful place in the international community," Jonathan said.

Balloting is spread over three weekends starting with legislative elections on Saturday, followed by the presidential vote on April 9 and governorship and state assembly ballots on April 16.

The run-up to the upcoming vote has had its share of pre-polling violence, including bomb blasts and other attacks.
Police chief Hafiz Ringim, however, said he would leave nothing to chance to ensure the polling exercise would be fully secure.

Both police and military would be deployed across the country at least two days before the opening of the polling stations to ensure no disruption of voting occurred.

Ringim told reporters that the authorities "are determined and they will not allow any act of thuggery, any act of violence and any act that will destroy the conduct of a free, fair, rancour-free, peaceful, as well as acceptable, general election."

A respected academic, Attahiru Jega, appointed to head the country's elections organising body, has raised hopes that this year's vote will be different.

Jega said the agency is "now well prepared and well positioned to conduct elections which will go a long way to satisfy the aspiration of Nigerians for free, fair and credible elections."

Lagos. . . Lagos. . . Lagos. . . Blah blah blah

Anybody who likes Lagos should get their head examined.

Give me Enugu or Calabar over Lagos any day.
