Have we come to this? |
One good thing about Okorocha was that he was already rich before he entered elected office. He makes his money legitimately and that is why he could afford to forfeit his salary. |
As long as T.A. Orji does not forget about Bende, I will not have a problem with him. He is going to focus on Umuahia, but he would be foolish to forget about Bende. We are not like the people of Aba. ![]() |
Some of my brothers are very happy, I must say. I do not like this Northern hegemony in the center, but at least the Ndigbo have a voice. It is better than not having any voice. |
The way Eko Ile talks, you would think that Tinubu is his godfather as well. ![]() |
Eko Ile:Can't you read? Someone mentioned Fashola and I differentiated between the two. No one insulted your messiah. Name one person on this thread who has insulted Fashola on this thread? Stop your whining and be a man. And stop derailing this thread. This is about Okorocha and Imo state, not Fashola or Lagos state. |
jmaine:He should slow down though. I like him challenging the status quo as well, but too much change can cause problems for him in the state. Let him slow down and correct the deficit that was created by Ohakim. Nigeria needs more leaders like him who are willing to challenge the status quo. |
I pity those who believe in Tinubu. He only cares about his own interest and not the interest of his own people. ACN controls the South-West and everyone has to pay homage to Emperor Tinubu. Welcome to the new South-West. |
No Igbo in this thread brought up a Yoruba until Fashola's name was inserted into this thread. This thread is about Okorocha, not Fashola. I am growing tired of the constant mentioning of Fashola's name. The way some of our brothers in the SW act, you would think he is some sort of messiah. |
enyojo:Okorocha has plenty of time to show us how he will govern Imo state. This rapid change is what Imo state needs. If Okorocha does well in Imo state, the rest of the Igbo states will fall to APGA in the next elections. Many of these "Igwes" are relics of an era of Warrant Chiefs that were used by the British. The sacking of many of these Igwes was needed. |
wesley80:They need to understand that those jobs were not sustainable. These youth should not be upset with Okorocha, because this was not his fault. Ohakim promised them something that was not sustainable. This restructuring in Imo state will not be easy, and it will be painful. The Imo people need to support Okorocha, since he has their best interest. |
enyojo:Okorocha seems to be more radical than Fashola. The man owes no allegiance to anyone, but himself, which makes him more radical than someone like Fashola whose political godfather is Tinubu. I wonder if the Imo people can handle such rapid change. Imo state is going to have to go through a painful restructuring, but Okorocha seems to be the right man for the job. Ohakim made a mess in the state. |
Okorocha Declares Imo Bankrupt Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha has declared that the state is indebted to the tune of N100 billion including internal and external debts, even as he ordered the immediate dissolution of all the 27 local councils in the state. The out-gone regime had conducted elections in the councils last year to run for two years. Also, citing unacademic conduct, Okorocha sacked the Acting Vice Chancellor of Evan Enwerem University, Owerri, now renamed Imo State University, Prof. Osita Nwebo. In a radio and television broadcast in Owerri, Monday evening, the governor also dissolved all the Development Centres and State Council of Traditional Rulers headed by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya. Not satisfied by the offer of 10,000 jobs by the immediate past governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim to graduates in the state, he suspended all the action regarding the offer, while he also suspended contracts awarded by Ohakim, stating that they would be reviewed. The State Deputy Governor, Sir Jude Agbaso is to head the review committee. According to him, he was not satisfied by the performance of the institutions dissolved, regretting that traditional institutions had become an arena for playing politics. On the staff of office and certificate of recognition issued to 106 monarchs by the immediate past governor, Ikedi Ohakim, Okorocha disclosed that a committee to review the recognition of the monarchs would by put in place. He also dissolved the board of state-owned oil palm industry, Adapalm, stating that the state government would strengthen the company, while the moribund Avutu Poultry established by the late Sam Mbakwe administration more than 30 years ago, would be reinvigorated. He was sad that about 264 health centres in the state were not functioning, disclosing that some would be merged and made more functional. Okorocha regretted that huge sums of money was owed by the state government by the immediate past government, directing that arrears of salaries of the workers in the state be cleared. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/okorocha-declares-imo-bankrupt-dissolves-councils/92781/ https://serving.thisdaylive.com/0bef99d6-acf5-4e2c-9779-8fa02ba3fcd4/assets/2401F04.Rochas-Okorocha.jpg?maxwidth=400&maxheight=540 |
There is a reason why the U.S. company I work for hired me. ![]() |
Chyz*:This is not about having a big heart. This is keeping the balance of power. The North has an unequal amount of power. Their needs to be equilibrium. I am not happy about positions that the Ndigbo have either. I am not saying this out of love for the South-West, I am saying this, because I dislike the North having so much power. |
Chyz*:I like equilibrium within the center. One group cannot have all the power. |
These Northerners are very cunning. We may ridicule them, but their political elite understand Nigerian politics better than any other group. They are known to take power at all cost. |
Obiagu1:This is a dangerous precedent though. The South-west has no place in the top six positions in this country right now. Where is the fairness? One region is Vice President, Senate President and Speaker. |
Ileke-IdI:Some of my brother may be happy, but I see this as a loss for the entire South. The North now controls the government, and Goodluck will just be a mere figurehead. He had a chance in preventing this, but he chose to listen to Obasanjo who is not only hated throughout Nigeria, but even in his own region. Instead of aiming at the Ndigbo, maybe you should look at your leaders and the North. Like it or not, the Igbos and the Yorubas are in the same predicament. You all may feel that ACN is your savior, but now you all have no say within the center. That is something morally wrong about that. |
Instead of some SW NL members getting upset with the Ndigbo, maybe you all should ask how voting for ACN will benefit your region. I would understand if Nigeria practiced a true federal system, but all power resides within the center. And right now, the North controls the center, with a few powerful Igbos who are also found there as well. Anyone who says such positions does not matter, really does not understand how Nigeria works. Those who control the center can sponsor special projects for their own regions. |
The real winners is the North. The Ndigbo may have some leadership positions, but I am not happy though. I am not into who wins and who lose game, but the clear winner is obvious the North. The most backward region in Nigeria is very cunning when it comes to politics. Not only do they control the central government, they also control the military by virtue of their numbers within Nigeria's military. |
Seems like we have a new Igbo champion. He needs to slow down though, I don't think the Imo people can handle such rapid change in a short time. Maybe he should spread it out, like Fashola does. Rome was not built in a day. |
kasiem:Another great post, by someone who truly understands the situation. |
We in the South-East have our own environmental problems such as the widespread erosion, which can be solved very easily if our politicians did something about it. |
Ibime:Name one politician in Nigeria that has a "squeaky clean" record. Even the "great" Fashola record is not so clean as many of you think. I would go even further to say, name ONE politicians around the world that has a "squeaky clean" record. Rochas is may soon be seen as an Igbo savior. I wish him continued success. |
Something needs to be done. People cannot be living like this. Even our forefathers were not living in such squalor. This is one of the problems with industrialization. Sometimes the environment suffers, which is the true tragedy. |
houvest:Now people should really read this post. You are correct with this statement. All regions are impacted, because power within Nigeria is found in the center, not the regions. That is why I laugh when some of our brothers and sisters, believe their region will not be impacted. We are all in this together, if you like it, or not. |
This thread is a red herring though. Why are we discussing something that happened over 40 years ago, while the balance of power in Nigeria has dramatically changed today? Am I wrong? |
enyojo:I do not attack, I just simply speak the truth, and I will simply ignore that sly remark. Didn't you realize that I was gone? The only reason why I came back to Nairaland was simply because of the new political ramifications that are occurring throughout Nigeria. I grew tired of the constant bickering. |
OAM4J:When did you become a moderator? ![]() |
OAM4J:And why do you think Fashola will get elected? He cannot be elected on Yoruba votes alone can he? I like Fashola, but Nigeria does not respect men of his caliber. If we did, we would not be saying President Jonathan, we would be saying President Duke right now. 2015 will be a Free For All and the North will win, because they are the most united region in Nigeria. |
Zoning is now officially dead. In addition, these House elections now show how an ambition politicians can gain power, even without the president's blessing. Aminu Tambuwal seems to be a very cunning politician from Sokoto. The North really made Goodluck and Obasanjo look foolish. |
