Bull, we haven't haven't regressed, there are almost 41 million American blacks and although some act ignorant thats not the case for most. Today is just a different struggle than the one we had years ago.
Where are you getting 41 million American blacks? The last time I checked, it was around 35 million. In addition, remember that there are other blacks, besides Black Americans who live in the United States. Many come from the Caribbean, Africa, and Latin America. American black is very diverse.

And yes, there has been a regression. Go to any area, where blacks can be found in such large numbers. The Hip-Hop culture has destroyed black society in many profound ways. And you all have exported it abroad. Everyone wants to be the next Lil Wayne or T.I. Or one of those music video vixens. It is appalling.

Athletes, rappers or gang bangers is what many black american youth have turned to. Not doctors, lawyers, engineers etc.

This is one of the only things I like about Nigerian politicians and that's THEIR PRIDE IN THEIR CULTURE.

And I hope the younger generation continues with this tradition.

What's next in all these mudslinging?
Attack GEJ's children for being too smart huh
Exactly!

I wonder if some of these Nairaland posters, can speak their native tongue well. In their rush to embrace English, they lambast someone who does not speak English regularly.

@ Okija_juju

The attacks on her definitely needs to stop. She is not running for office, it is her husband who is running for office. I do not think any of the presidential candidate's wives should be attacked. This resembles the attacks that Republicans did during Obama's presidential election, in which they tried to attack him through his wife.

Is their desire to wear traditional, wherever they are including state visits to other countries. This is something that other African states are not known to do. We are proud of our heritage.

Why are you people continuing to insult her, when English is not even her first language?

For the most part, reading some of your post give me a headache, because you all cannot even write "proper" English.
CultureRe: Ramses, Cleopatra, Nefertiti: Original Egyptians Were Black? by EzeUche2(m): 4:03pm On Mar 21, 2011
Cleopatra was far from black. The woman was more Greek than Egyptian (African). Her family, the Ptolemies were known for inbreeding, in which the Ptolemaic Dynasty of Egypt was most definitely Greek. They wanted to keep their Macedonian ancestry pure and therefore, they did not want to mix with the local Egyptians.
CultureRe: Are Africans Proud Of Black Americans? by EzeUche2(m): 4:00pm On Mar 21, 2011
I am proud of some Black Americans such as Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglas etc. These are people I am proud of. That being said, if you look at many Black Americans today, the people have regressed.

All the successes in the Civil Rights movement seems to be forgotten by the younger generation. Maybe they should talk to their grandparents about the struggle before it is too late.

jason123:
No, it is not because, if the reason for GEJ's support is nationalistic, then the statement was not meant for you. But if it was because of the sentiments stated above, then the person deserves to be shot IN THE HEAD. I mean, do you know how many people that have died in Jos alone?? What about MEND and the oct 1st?? Take a look at Bode George?? So yes, they deserve to be shot in my opinion.
Then you have a lot of growing to do. People have their reasons for supporting candidates. I am a GEJ supporter, because I feel that he will correct past wrongs that have been committed against the people of East in the form of Federal government neglect compared to other reasons.

Plus, I rather have a civilian, than a former military head of state. That is the basic reason why I am supporting him. If you don't respect my views, then you can jump off a cliff.

All I will say is, " some people deserve to be shot in the head!". I mean, how can we Nigerians justify the support for GEJ other than "he is a southerner", " he is azikwe", "he is God sent". May sentiments not run us to the ground in Naija!
That is such barbaric thinking. Not everyone is going to agree with you. Even in the American electorate, they vote for people based on looks, education or even the color of their skin. The average voter even in the advanced democracies are dumb.

Utomi: Buhari, Tinubu destroyed opposition

•Says PDP has united Nigeria

FROM an unusual quarter came yesterday an expression of desirability for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rule the country beyond 2011.

One of the presidential candidates for the April 9 elections, Prof. Pat Utomi,  insisted that despite its poor performance in the last 12 years, Nigerians still need the PDP around, “because it has been able to unite the country”.

Utomi, who is the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP), spoke at the “Public Policy and Governance: 2011 and Beyond Dialogue with Presidential Candidates”, organised by the Murtala Mohammed Foundation in Abuja.

He said that because the membership of the PDP cuts across ethnicity and religious barriers, it has been able to hold the country together.

According to Utomi, who canvassed for a two-party system for the country, what the PDP needs was restructuring and internal democracy instead of the sharing of economic gains of the nation by a few of its members.

The presidential candidate, while fielding questions from panelists who drilled him, however, descended heavily on the leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), for the failure of the opposition to form a coalition that could have battled the PDP.

He blamed the two politicians for the collapse of the mega party idea, saying: “In my letter to Tinubu and Buhari last year, I told them that history will hold us responsible, if we can’t subordinate individual interest into collective interest. I am not in politics because of position but because the country is dying.

“If the opposition progressive parties had united, I do not mind if I am given the role of a cleaner.”

On the issue of corruption, the university don said that he would prefer to have more women in government so as to reduce the monster, adding that women have less social pressures than men.

His words: “I will prefer to have more women in government so as to reduce corruption. Women will be less corrupt because they have less social pressures than men. People are corrupt because they feel they will get away with it. Corruption will stop if we stop grandstanding about it.

There is the need for value reorientation. There are some people who feel that they will stop being rich if everybody is not poor.”  On education, the presidential candidate said “the first thing I will do, if voted to power, is to scrap the newly-approved universities. That decision was completely unreasonable. Rather, the existing universities ought to have been strengthened to produce better results. We have this erroneous believe that it is by establishing tertiary institutions that will solve education problem.

“The problem with education transcends establishing more universities. The source of the rot must be identified and tackled. I believe the teachers’ college must be strengthened, if not, what goes into the universities will jut be some garbage and what leaves the place will be nothing but garbage.”

just guessing, but they might be igboid.

i heard there are some igbo families who settled permanently in edo after [or maybe before] the civil war, and never went back home.

not sure how factual this is though.
Some Igbo clans were part of the Benin Empire. The Ika Kingdom (Igbo) were a vassal state to the Benin Empire, I believe.

Igbos have always been present in Benin even prior to the arrival of Europeans.
