BH may be a blessing in disguise. Waking us from slumber. If those airframes are indeed true,i hope we dont rest on laurels and get more 4Gen airframes. Atleast a 150 units of a mix of SU-30s and JF-17 is enough firepower to lock down the continent and keep the keys at aso-rock. |

xwolverine: @Shymexx, it seems you are not in tune with the happenings in the Nigerian military. Well, based on my sources in the NAF, Nigeria now owns the following assets/airframes:
- at least 8 Sukhoi Su-30, 4 airframes has been assembled as at last week Tuesday - at least 12 JF-17 Thunder - 8 Mi-35M, Mi-171Sh Terminator (mix of 40 ordered, 8 - 10 on ground). This is different form Mi-35 old variants - 7 ALX Super Tucano (4th gen avionics)
Our AirForce inventory is:
AIR ASSAULT Mi-171Sh Terminator
NORMAL GROUND ATTACK AND ASSAULT ALX Super Tucano MB 339CD Alpha Jet Mi-24V/Mi-35P base models Mi-35M
AIR SUPERIORITY, MULTIROLE FIGHTERS JF-17 Su-30 F-7 AirGuard These are game changers right here. This automatically catapults Nigeria to the top of africa's air superiority, with only algeria and egypt as our only true rivals. I just hope it's true. *fingers crossed* |

shymexx: What makes it more annoying is that: these folks are basically clueless about what's going on in the world.
There's a paradigm shift now, and more countries, are becoming neutral. The next century is for the developing countries that can take advantage of the paradigm shift in the consciousness of the world, as we go into a bipolar world. Hence countries like South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, and a lot of South American countries are already putting themselves in a position, to take advantage of that. South Africa is part of BRICS - emerging countries - and it's going to benefit immensely from that.
Yet, these fvckers are still waiting for America that has never sold any weapons to them, to allow Israel, which is America's military base in MENA to sell weapons to them - in 2014. It has nothing to do with human rights - Israel doesn't even have clean records of human rights, yet it gets $6 billion military aids from America annually, and during all raids of Gaza a few months ago and despite Israel's bombings of UN schools, hospitals, kids, women, and innocent people - America was still supplying Israel with all kinds of weapons. Tell it to the Nigerian-americans on this forum screaming human rights as if it was going out of fashion. Human rights my foot. |

We are the ones who fought for independence, We should be independent. I don't like threads like this, the ignorance is nauseating. You would think that Nigeria suffering serious power cuts would keep all her gas for her own use and utilize them. No,not Nigeria. We are not that smart. The recent shortfall of gas to ghana was due to workers strike. |
Politics › Re: US Blocks Nigeria’s Purchase Of Chinook Helicopters From Israel by F117A: 2:40pm On Sep 23, 2014 |
shymexx: Nothing has changed about Nigeria IMO. The only two periods Nigeria wasn't pro-West were: when the Murtala guy was killed, and the period when it was sanctioned. Apart from those two periods, the country has always been super-duper pro-West and supremely pro-American. Nigeria isn't part of the emerging powers sphere - it's under America's choke-hold. And isn't your Finance Minister part of the Rockefeller foundation? Also, the last time I checked, Nigeria still lined up behind America at the UN - Egypt which is a proper American ally didn't even do that.
The country has no foreign policy, and I doubt it has ever had one. Hence I'll always question the intelligence of those ruling Nigeria. Just schmucks running around with blinkered brain cells, labelling themselves diplomats. You'd think a country as big as Nigeria would have one - but it doesn't. Algerian foreign policy is there for all to see. Ditto Egypt and South Africa. Sad isn't it? I weep for this country everyday. We have been truely emasculated by our leaders. |

I'm sure those in the Naija army know this. Everybody knows America's heavy weapons are strategic, and they don't sell to just anyone, just because you worship America.
They know where to go to get weapons - and those are the places they have been buying weapons from since independence. So, why the sudden drift to America that has never sold anything to you in the past? These people are loonies!
It's all propaganda! True. The sudden shift looks suspicious. The US has not sold us weapons even before GEJ was born. The few we bought from the brits decades ago were rendered useless due to sanctions. We are being governed by some very stupidd people. |

Missy89: Some truth there but what key areas are u talking about? Easterners have the same pro western stance when it comes to the culture of the western countries. everyone basically like America's/Western soft power (education, entertainment, sports, food etc) the geopolitics is what most pro east and non align countries are wary of.
To be quite frank Nigeria doesn't have any military foe (except for maybe Cameroon?) and the military was kept big because it has to be in the right proportion as to the population and it is useful to crush rebellion internally back in the military days (still used) so we don't really need to pick sides. And there is another fear that the democracy is too fragile so having a very strong independent military will be problematic.
The boko haram crisis should be an eye opener for the military and they should try and maintain one or two very well trained and armed divisions to deal with those types of crisis in the future instead of running helter skelter in the dying minutes to buy arms. Yeah you have a point. We didn't really have any a major threat and democracy then was pretty fragile. But that is where visionary leadership comes in-anticipate and prepare for future threats. I am surprised that we have not yet prepared for possible future clashes with regional powers like algeria ,SA and egypt. |

omoharry: They are finally heading to Russia. read this “ Nigeria, he stated is reviewing its options in terms of procurement of weapons systems. Said he, “the US and its allies are not supporting us. All they are interested in is human rights. I believe there is a natural hatred for the Nigerian military by the West.
This has made things really very very difficult for Nigeria especially on the battle field. If the West is not blocking us by accusing us of human rights violations, they want Nigeria to drop its weapons systems that came from the East, that is China and Russia, in favour of their own equipment only holding. But Nigeria traditionally gets its weapon holdings from both East and West. What is clear is that the same scenario that played out during Nigeria’s civil war is here again.
“Then, a Nigeria in trouble looked up to its traditional allies, the West. But they disappointed, citing same unending reasons of human rights abuses and exclusivity of equipment holding. Nigeria then looked up to the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and their allies which then bailed it out. Nigeria now has no choice but to go back to the same people it relied upon to successfully execute the civil war. What many Nigerian don’t know is that despite all the public pledges of assistance to Nigeria to fight Boko Haram, the US and the Western block countries are not giving or selling to it any military equipment to build up its military capability in order to diminish the capabilities of the insurgent group.
“In fact, Israel could not sell to Nigeria the combat helicopters it needs because it did not get the required authorisation from the US. And this inability to receive the initial weapons it ordered slowed down its operations in the North East. Now, mark this, Nigeria is going to East for its military platform needs. The country urgently needs the Mi-35 helicopters and other platforms and only Russia and China can make that possible. So, don’t be surprised to see the President and Commander-In-Chief visiting Russia very soon to soothe the ground to make the necessary weapon platform available for the Nigeria Armed Forces.” I just hope and pray we change and our foreign policy. The BH insurgency can be a blessing in disguise if it helps us dump our fake friends. |
