Family / Help! My Baby Is Constipated by Fabmumng(f): 9:54pm On Sep 27, 2018
If your child poos once every few days, then something is not right though children between the ages of three to four tend to show different variety in pooing patterns.

Constipation is the passage of infrequent, hard and painful stools. This is a common problem that affects a number of school-aged children.

Causes of Constipation

Painful Memory: One painful bowel movement can cause your child to fear passing stools and to withhold further movements.
Kind of Meal: Babies can become mildly constipated when they start to eat more solid food. That’s often because rice (a common first food) is low in fiber.
Dehydration: when a child is dehydrated, his/her system will be absorbing the fluid from whatever they eat or drink, also from the waste in their bowels, this makes the stool very difficult to pass.
Medical condition: constipation can be caused by already existing medical condition such as hypothyroidism, botulism, and certain food allergies and metabolic disorders, though this happens like 5% of the time.
Signs of Constipation

Hard stools: Poop shouldn’t be hard that it causes painful straining, especially for children. If this is noticed, then there is a possibility http://fabmumng.com/help-my-baby-is-constipated/
Family / 6 Effective Ways To Handle Sibling Rivalry by Fabmumng(f): 11:45pm On Sep 26, 2018
Sibling Rivalry poses a challenge to many parents. Often defined as fighting, competition, and jealousy between siblings, it is a source of concern to most parents with two or more children. In most cases, sibling rivalry is as a result of the birth of a new baby or due to parents showing favoritism towards a particular child or even praising a particular child. This often leads to rancor and unhealthy competition amongst siblings. Also, the sudden arrival of a total stranger, a sibling, with him whom the firstborn has to share you with will sometimes make the firstborn want to pull a fight with the baby, even sometimes telling you to return the new baby.

It is now up to the parents to handle it when they can because, sibling rivalry gets into adulthood with these children.

According to American Academy of Pediatrics, here are six ways to handle conflict between your children:

Allow the older child to help with taking care of their younger one. Letting them see being an older one as something to be proud of. They can help with assisting you when changing their younger one’s diaper, or even sometimes feeding their younger one.
No comparison, especially in front of them. Children will misunderstand these comparisons as you choosing or loving the other sibling more than you love them, making them take your correction as criticism.

Family / How To Discipline A Child Without Yelling by Fabmumng(f): 12:47pm On Sep 26, 2018
Is it really possible to discipline a child without yelling? That is the million dollar question that most mums ask every day. Growing up in Nigeria, the saying “spare the rod, spoil the child” was widely accepted. But this days the story is different as some parents are somewhat clueless on how to go about disciplining their children.

By the way, discipline does not have to always mean punishment as there are a lot of ways we can discipline a child without punishing him or her. Discipline is basically all about helping your child learn how to behave as well as how not to behave. It works best when you have a warm and loving relationship with your child.

As children grow and evolve, so does their behavior. This is why a child who didn’t throw tantrums at two may start at five, and may even give you major attitude at 13. The best way to understand your children’s behavior is to understand what they’re going through developmentally, say experts. This knowledge will help you discipline them without resorting to yelling, threatening or having a meltdown yourself as parent.

Here a few tips to guide you on how to discipline your child without yelling

Set family Rules: Growing up in my parent’s house, we were guided by rules, not dictatorship kind of rule. We had rules guiding us, and in a way, it stuck with us. We had table rules; we had rules for how we spoke to each other, etc. Example, we knew we were not supposed to chew with our mouth open or even make sounds with our mouth when eating even before we were taught in school, etc. So, as parents, you can make these rules in your house without looking like Hitler, rules like, in this house, we do not hit each other; in this house, we are not allowed to play outside, when everyone else is inside, except mummy or daddy tells you to, etc.
Follow your rules: it is generally known that children replicate and do what they see, that is

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I run a community of #kickassmums under mumpreneur.ng wherein we offer a platform for networking, support and capacity building for mothers in business. Our mission is to raise mothers who can build successful businesses without sacrificing family.

I have a background in Chemical Engineering with an MBA from the Lagos Business School. I worked in the corporate sector for about four years before I decided to exit and start my own business mainly because I wanted control of my time for family.

At what point did you decide to become a mumpreneur?

I had my first son during my MBA, it was through a C-section and I had a tough decision to either defer or return to finish my final semester almost immediately. My mother was a strong support for me during this time and she took time off to follow me to school holding him while I took my classes.

This was my first experience with having to find a balance with fulfilling my dreams and being a present mother. Shortly after the MBA I got a job as a business analyst with Dangote Cement. I loved my job while I was at it, but I hated that I had to leave my son at the mercy of daycare centers and hired helps. I became even more restless when he started school proper and I could hardly ever attend any of the important school functions.

I used to have them drop him off at an after school from where I would pick him up after work. One day, there was this terrible gridlock on third mainland bridge and I couldn’t get to him till almost 11pm. I called everyone I knew who could have helped pick him up, but most of them were http://fabmumng.com/how-to-succeed-as-a-mum-in-business-mofolusade-sonaike/

Health / Mothers Stop Using Anti Fungal As Baby Cream – Pediatrician Warns by Fabmumng(f): 6:13pm On Sep 07, 2018
According to an Ilorin-based paediatrician, Khadijat Ajadi, using antifungal creams mixed with baby body creams to bleach the skin of babies is harmful.

Ms. Ajadi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin that antifungal creams were medications and not body creams.

According to her, mixing drugs like Funbact A and Skineal with baby body creams is not healthy for the skin, especially for the skin of babies.

“The rate at which some mothers do this now is alarming and they even prescribe it to others openly.

“I want them to stop because these are drugs with dangerous side effects.

The side effects include steroids which are easily absorbed into the bloodstream from the fragile skin of the newborns and babies.

“These lead to serious side effects on the long terms including gastritis (stomach ulcers), wounds, poor growth and other sinister side effects.

“If mothers religiously go through the packs of some of these medicated creams, words like “antifungal,” “antibacterial”, “anti-inflammatory” are written on them.

“The constituents are drugs including antibiotics, antifungal and steroids and they are often prescribed for specific skin diseases and usually for a short duration and not usually more than two weeks,” she said.

Family / Baby Safety Store – Nine Everyday Objects Babies Should Not Be Playing With by Fabmumng(f): 10:23am On Sep 04, 2018
We all make the common mistakes of giving baby/toddlers some everyday items to play with when they cry or when we need to distract them so we can work. Do you know which is safe? Check them out below:

1. Keys
Babies love the shininess and sounds of metal keys, but are they really okay for a baby to fiddle with? Keys are made of brass, which may contain small amounts of lead. Additionally, keys can cause injury to the mouth if the child falls while he’s sucking on them. Instead, stick to the plastic ones.

2. TV Remote
They contain batteries, which can be dangerous if ingested. Also,

Then it dawned on me that the “band wagon” effect had taken over Instagram and it has become imperative that we constantly remind ourselves about the reason why ( We started that business, service or page)… You see, it’s difficult to focus with an overload of information, fakeness especially with people being deceived into thinking they aren’t doing enough or need to catch up.

Family / Considering IVF? Here Are 10 Things You Must Know by Fabmumng(f): 8:50am On Aug 09, 2018
In-Vitro-Fertilisation or IVF is one of the fastest methods of achieving pregnancy. Although it is expensive and time consuming, it is definitely worth in the light of recent success rates. Considering IVF? Here are 11 things you must know

It is time consuming: A typical IVF treatment lasts between four weeks to two months and this depends on how quickly your body responds to medication. The first part includes suppressing the menstrual cycle either by hormone injection or by just a nasal spray. Just after the hormone injection, ovarian injection is the next step in the form of self-administered shots. The ovary stimulation can take over 10days approximately 12days. After this, your doctor will administer a shot to prompt the eggs released and he would see you in about 36hrs again. The eggs collected will have to be fertilised and left to grow for six days. At the end of this stage, a viable embryo will be chosen and implanted into your womb.

The whole process can be very stressful: Having to go through all the process of injecting, waiting for 15-220 hours can be very stressful and that’s why Alan B, Copperman, M.D of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Mount Sinai Hospital and medical director of Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, says he encourages patients to always ask questions. He also said “The best way to combat stress is with information, it gives a sense of control”. Information actually gives a sense of control. Knowing what to do next and the exact time can help you manage how stressful you’ve been.

But contrary to what you may have heard, being stressed out is not going to make it harder to get pregnant:

In the past, it was thought that stress causes infertility but according to Doctor Alan B, “stress doesn’t really cause infertility, infertility causes stress”. Research has however proven Dr Alan.B. Cooperman right as its now been proven that stress can’t make you infertile. Rather, unhealthy habits like smoking/alcohol consumption and eating food filled with cholesterol are what actually cause infertility.

Along the way, it’s likely-and totally fine-that you’ll feel moody, thanks to the influx of hormones:

Everyday injection of hormones will lead to dramatic hormonal fluctuations and as such

Family / 5 Natural Ways To Firm Your Breasts by Fabmumng(f): 9:57am On Aug 06, 2018
APPLY OIL:

Applying Olive oil, vegetable oil, fennel seed oil and also carrot oil can help rejuvenate some of the properties that can help restore the elasticity of saggy skin. All you need to do is massage your breasts with these oils within regular intervals during the day. Applying too much can burn your skin, two drops is more than enough to keep you going at every point you want to apply it. In order to get better results you can also mix two drops of any essential oil along with the vegetal oils. Massage for about 15 minutes in order to increase blood flow and stimulate cell repair and make sure you do it like 4-5times a day.

Apply Cucumber:

You can grind and blend one cucumber, add a cup of clean water, some natural cream with egg yolk or white egg, as it is good for sagging breasts due to its astringent and skill-nourishing properties. Once you are done mixing it, refrigerate and apply it on your breasts later. When you apply it, leave the mixture on your breast for about half an hour and then wash it off with cold water. This will help tone your breast muscles but ensure that you do this once a week to help strengthen the breast tissue.

RUB SHEA BUTTER:

For best results, rub Shea butter on your breast once or twice a week; leave it on for 10 minutes before you wash it off. Shea butter is a great source of Vitamin E. The latter helps tighten the skin around your breasts and it will also give your breast the firmer appearance you want.

Many at times as mums, we tend to put our dreams on hold once we start having children? It’s not always something we intend on doing, but we do it so unconsciously.

Children are a great gift and a wonder addition to our homes and lives, but at the same time we must confess that caring for them requires a lot of hard work.

It’s perfectly understandable that some mums might find themselves putting their dreams on hold, with the excuse that they can always get back to things at a later time. The problem is, that time often never comes and we end going several steps backwards while your peers continue to climb up the ladder.

Even if a woman’s dream is to have children, there exist deep inside of her a dream waiting to materialise. Maybe you want to publish a book. Maybe you have been thinking about starting your own business, selling a product or acquiring a skill. Whatever it is, if you think about it daily, wondering if you can actualise it while you are raising your kids, especially when they are still babies, then this is the best time to make it a reality.

I’m not claiming that it will be easy. It’s won’t be. But the fact that it wont be a walk in the park doesn’t mean that you can’t find fulfillment while doing it.

Family / The Best Ever Solution For Breast Sagging For Nursing Mums by Fabmumng(f): 6:41pm On Aug 03, 2018
Breast sagging is a major concern for many nursing mums. But not to worry as we have just found the best ever solution for breast sagging as it relates to nursing mums.

The Chief Consultant, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, National Hospital, Abuja, Efena Efetie, says that wearing firm brassier could help prevent breast sag after six months of exclusive breastfeeding.

Mr. Efetie described as erroneous the perception by most nursing mothers that exclusive breast feeding could lead to breast sag, thereby denying the child the much-needed breast milk.

According to him, the main factor for floppiness of the breast is due to lack of support with a firm brassier.

“The use of firm brassiere during breast feeding and after weaning could help tone back the breast.

“After breast-feeding a child, the breast can never be the same as it was before the conception; the firmness can, however, be maintained with proper care,” he said.

Family / Weight Loss Mistakes Most Mums Continue To Make by Fabmumng(f): 10:03pm On Aug 02, 2018
mums have also had resort to extreme methods to reach that desired goal of being slim and keep fit.But bad habits and certain mistakes never go away and always come back to hunt them. Here are some of the most common weight loss mistakes most mums continue to make:

Thinking sit ups make the stomach fat go away

Most Nigerian women fall prey to the myth that a good lying down and coming up and counting to 40 is enough exercise for one day and voila no more belly fat. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but doing sit ups all day long won’t make you lose weight or give you a flat tummy. You cannot spot or measure reduced fat. Doing cardiovascular exercises like some sweat walking or running will help you lose weight all over your body by some considerable amount.

Continuous reliance on carbohydrates

When we are busy and our mouths need to keep busy, it’s very easy for us to look no further than carbohydrates-there goes your

Family / 6 Things You Should Never Do When Picking A School For Your Child by Fabmumng(f): 6:24pm On Aug 02, 2018
There are certain things you should never do when picking a school for your child. When it comes to picking a school for her child, every mother wants the very best. However good these intentions are, sometimes picking a school for your child could lead to decisions or actions that could negatively impact on your child and in a long run. Here are 6 things you should never do when picking a school for your child.

Emphasising on brand name alone

We know of those ‘annoying’ mothers (possibly our nosy neighbours who are bent on showing off their affluence) who say they want their child to go to this school or that school because it’s “the best” or it’s “number one.” Yes, some of these schools are great and have built up strong brand names for themselves.. But the reality is there is no such thing as the best school. Rather, there is only the best school for your child. In other words, it’s not the best school, but the right school. It is quite understandable the pressure that certain mothers feel in focusing on the brand name of a school. They believe that the “best” school increases their child’s chances of landing that amazing job or being successful later on in life. There is some truth to that, but that’s not the entire picture. Also, these types of schools are by no means a guarantee of future success for your child. The best school for your child will most likely be the school that matches your child’s learning style and interest

Judging by outward appearance of the school

We mothers can sure be finicky about what we want in the IDEAL school for our child, it ranges from safety I clean and attractive, with all the newest technology. But remember that looks aren’t everything. Some schools might not have the latest and greatest equipment. But they do make up for it in having a well engaged and well-trained teachers who can bring out the best in their students—including those with learning and attention issues. The teachers are the most important element a school has to guarantee.

Not asking enough questions

It’s helpful to know if a school has a good reputation or gets high marks from other parents. But it is important to know that their children may have different needs than

Family / Dos And Donts Of Child Hair Care by Fabmumng(f): 6:13pm On Aug 02, 2018
When it comes to child hair care, it is important to know that it all boils down tothe methods we employ to care for their hair and not necessarily the products we use. In this post, we are going to explore 5 Dos and 5 Donts of Child Natural Hair Care. Let’s dive in!1.Don’t Wash Your Child’s Hair EverydayThe reason is that constantly washing a baby’s hair strips it of its natural oils and moisture, leaving it dry, brittle and susceptible to breakage which eventually leads to hair loss. When a baby is born, most of the moisture and oils his/her hair gets, comes from the baby’s scalp through the hair follicles. So excessive exposure to the soap ingredient (sodium laureth sulfate) in baby bath liquids, washes off these natural oils every time you bring it in contact with your baby’s hair.1.Don’t Comb Your Child’s Hair EverydayI have come to realise that hair loss in babies and children is usually a gradual process that often goes unnoticed as it occurs. One day your child has a full headof hair, another day, it’s all gone in a flash. What went wrong in between? Excessive combing might be another reason why your baby’s hair is damaged, because combing is a mechanical action that causes friction and puts the baby’s fragilecurly strands under tension to break and fall off prematurely. You do not need to comb your baby’s soft and tender curls. Till date, I only use my fingers to comb my baby’s hair and her hair is about 10 inches long now, by the way, as the time of writing this book, she was 20 months old. I use a comb when I absolutely have to and it has to be a very big wide toothedcomb.
