My boy Kalu is back. Had a good game for Watford today. The coach rate him highly and he didn't disappoint. Dribbled 5 players before winning the corner kick that led to Watford's goal. If he can stay fit he will be too good for the championship.

So you didn't see the Ajax game? Fabyom speaks of the most mature thing Osimhen did this season in the UCL, first game on his return from injury off the bench.

Had the chance to score his first Goal after 5 weeks out with injury but he gave the penalty to Kvaradona. Funny thing is Chance still smiled on Victor that day and he eventually scored after that gesture.
Since then, Kvara has become extra committed to finding Osimhen on the pitch in the final third.

Kvaka is ready to die for Oshimen! Oshimen is a psychologist, and giving that penalty to Kvaka was a masterstroke.

You underestimate what a good agent can do...After Simmy scored 20 goals in the Serie A 2 seasons ago, why didn't he make the move to a better team? He is now playing in Serie B abi na Serie C?
Chupou Moting is an example of an average player that has played for some of the biggest teams in the world...

Again, I didn't mention agent issue alone..I also said it could be due to lack of ambition on his part.. Talking about quality, I don't think it's lacking...At least not too lacking for a decent team in a decent league .
If both Simmy and Onachu scored those goals at 23/24 years old do you think the big clubs will look away? Age and fitting into a coach philosophy is what that matters not necessarily agents. Immobile scored a lot of goals for Lazio yet no big club came for him.

Philosopher1979:
No i disagree. We have some of the best forwards in Africa. Our midfield is mediocre. In fact any good player in a half decent league likevthe greek or scotish league can make our team in midfield.
We badly need natural midfielders. Our wingers snd strikers are overloaded. We can even afford ti dash some of our forwards to other countries.
See if chuba akpom was a midfielder he will have a chance.
The problem is that wr are so carried away with the forwards we have that we forget we need midfielders to support them.
I said one of the best in Africa. Iwobi, Aribo, Ndidi, Onyeka, Onyedika, Alhassan, Bonke etc are playing in the best leagues in the world. Name a country with better midfielders in Africa. Man for man!

We have some of the best midfielders in Africa, the problem is that we have many in-form forwards as well unfortunately, the coach can't select more than 22-25 players.
The midfielders are the sacrificial lambs for the forwards.
Philosopher1979:
1 we need kevin de bruyne, pogba and not hasland and mbape. We need midfielders and nit strikers and wingers!
2. I hope our coaches learn and get us midfielders.
3. If abass ibrahim can break into the first team then he deserves a call up.

I am delighted the way the Eagles took this game against Algeria. It shows that the passion is back. I am actually surprised Iwobi took it to twitter and Lookman to IG story. It's just a friendly match guys but I am all for it.

I have explained it better in my earlier post to you. Check it out!
The press is not Onyeka's duty to perform, yet he was still able to position himself around that zone.
I am pained cos you are not giving him enough credit for his ability to read the game.
He is always available to prevent the Algerians from shooting at our goal.
Onyeka is not related to me, but I played and coached the game. I know good players.
I said here, that Nwakali is a special talent and needed in the SE.
Alhassan? I am not convinced yet, he looks clumsy to me.
When everyone praised Ejuke, I countered that he would not make it into my team. He is the type of player, I hate having on my team. He's more of an Ikedia than a Babangida.
TheSuperNerd:
I have been waiting for you Fabyom to speak on a lad you claim is better than Alhassan Yusuf. Lol

You who said Yusuf will flop. I am waiting for that period.

Onyeka was ball watching. And blocking which passing lane? Did Atal's body language show he was going for a pass? Lol

Any professional footballer could tell in that moment he was lining up a shot after his first touch before the second.

Abeg, Fabyom.... I no wan laugh abeg. I just knew you would jump into Onyeka's defence. I only wonder why it took this long. grin
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 3:18pm On Sep 28, 2022
TheSuperNerd:
No no no... Basco. The point was not for him to reach Atal. Atal was far away.

And there are reasons my focus is on Onyeka and not Iwobi. First, that was Onyeka's defensive zone. Also, Onyeka was ball watching instead of setting himself up as a 2nd barrier in anticipation of the ball strike.

Your screenshots explain my point beautifully. See how relaxed he was as Atal lined up that shot.

Look at his positioning. He should have come more centrally at the top of the box into Atal's shot view.

Look at how laterally placed he is away from the center of his zone with respect to where the goal mouth that he is "meant to be defending" actually is. He should have taken steps centrally to where the goalmouth, behind him, was and not away from it.

His steps woud have brought him into the path of the ball.

A good DM will not be covering space away from where the goal mouth should be when trying to anticipate a shot coming from further forward outside the box centrally.

Further shots show it below......

Las Las Uzoho is just as bad as Okoye is right now. But I couldn't help but notice Onyeka's poor positioning when moving away from inside the box.
Onyeka was not ball watching. He was actually blocking the passing zone. The question should be where are the forwards. Iheanacho, Simon, Moffi and even Iwobi? Uzoho should take the most blame here. He should have occupied that open space. That's the only place the Algerian guy can shoot through.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 1:38pm On Sep 28, 2022
Onyeka wins the ball, passes to Iwobi, Iwobi finds Iheanacho, Iheanacho has Simon, Lookman and Moffi running into space ahead of him but decides to shot instead. Iheanacho should be the one taking all the criticism.
Onyeka has Cement his place in the team. Facts!
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 1:32pm On Sep 28, 2022
TheSuperNerd:
Damn it! How many more of this do I have to put up with this lunch break? Haba!!

And Onyeka wasn't expected to be near the guy taking the shot. Don't misquote me. I clearly explained the scenario.

And what was he defending with the ball already cleared??

All I said is he should have moved more centrally and upwards into his CDM zone at the top of the box. He had the time to do that but didn't even with the ball already cleared and headed outwards of the box towards another Algerian player who then rolled it into Atal's path who took 2 touches for that strike.

That is about 3 touches from Uzoho to Atal before he even struck.

He caused a penalty. Is limited in possession. Shows positional indiscipline for the CDM role leaving gaps in his primary defending zones. And only made a few meters of ball carries which you exaggerate as moving the ball from defence to offense.

Onyeka a gem? With all these limitations and errors yesterday? Really?
Who would have done better? Onyeka was exceptional yesterday. He was the only DM against 3 outstanding CM yet limit them to no shot at goal in the first half. The mere fact that he was in that position to mark the Algerian for that penalty shows the quality of his positioning. That should have been Sanusi's duty. He was all over the place running and winning balls. Paserio should have helped him by bringing on Onyedika earlier. Uzoho punched the ball out from a corner kick, it was the duty of the forwards to press the Algerians while the midfielders add more body to the defense. Where were Iheanacho, Simon and other attackers? You expect Onyeka to press while the attackers do what? Defend? You are just being sentimental.

Nwakali is the only player right now that can play the Iwobi's role! Believe it or not. Passing, shooting and all round solid football techniques. He will make that great move to a big club next season. I promise you!
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 10:23pm On Sep 27, 2022
Our defense gave me great joy today! Despite playing with a lean midfield the Algerians had no shot at goal in the first half.

Bassey (Ajax), Akpos (Hoffenheim), Aina (Torino), and Sanusi (Porto). One of the best in Africa.
This is their first competitive game together, and they passed with flying colors.

Our midfield was great in the first half because we had Simon and Lookman on the wings. We troubled the Algerians on the counter and should have been 2-0 up. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with the 4-4-2 formation.

Imagine having the likes of Oshimen, Ndidi, Chukweze, Dennis, Sadiq, Aribo, and Nwakali coming into the game in the second half. That would have been game over. We have the qualities except for the most important department (goalkeeping).

We would have won with VAR or at least draw with a very good goalkeeper!

The boys played a good game and deserve our commendation.

Of course, we should have won despite playing without most of our first team players if not for bad officiating and poor goal keeping. Algeria has no real chance at goal. In fact, we had more shots at goal. So rest!. The boys did well
