Tin Can Customs intercepts army uniform, accessories

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Command Apapa, Lagos has impounded a consignment of army uniforms and accessories neatly concealed in the booth of a vehicle in a container originating from the United State of America.
Nehru Is Maimed, the Area Comptroller of the Command, told maritime journalists yesterday that his men discovered the items during one of their routine checks on Thursday and that the manner the items were brought in made it suspicious, as it was not declared as part of the main cargo.

Among the items discovered, he said, were 10 army uniforms, six trousers, 10 pair of canvas shoes, 17 army fez caps, two belts and two slippers. The container, from the United States of America, has its registration number as ECMU 920690/0.
The comptroller said that both the importer of the container and the owner of the army accessories are under custody, while investigation is on to ascertain the actual circumstances under which the items were imported.
