The rules still apply. Every student still have a chance, even after 2-7 denials. I keep saying it: I know more than 4 students who got their visas after 4 denials respectively (the 5th time). Why so many denials if they were to be granted eventually? I have no idea. I also know several students who got it first appearance. I once tried to look at the determining factors between these two groups, and I can't find much. The first-time student appear calm, confident, and did not have occupied fear of denials, no travel experience either. One of them is a close friend. Victor is a simple guy; he doesn't worry or carry things for head. He is a good example of calmness. On his interview day, he behaved as though he is unaware that US embassy denials a lot. He took himself there and got it. (of course, there are other factors). I have learned that we can't achieve much in this life if we are not confident and calm in our pursuit. So, I want to encourage prospective students. Learn these qualities as you prepare for your interview and in other areas of your endeavours: confidence, ability to be calm under pressure (this doesn't come easily except it's in your gene to take things lightly. For me, it is difficult experiences that taught me calmness, and I am still learning). Please don't picture yourself in another student's scenario. Someone has been denied, but it is not you. Have faith and keep calm. You need to find it within yourself to believe that your case is different. And even when you're denied, keep believing. You want to leave Nigeria and never have anything to do with this country again? You don't like it here, and you want to go as fast as you can? Well, change that perspective. No carry America education for head. It will happen, but let it not be do or die, or else, you will put yourself under unnecessary pressure and it will not help. I am just looking for avenue to encourage you guys. |
Was this Abuja or Lagos? jerrypeacelinks: |
I will share a simple idea with you. If your company is your sponsor and you're going for fall 2019, Tell your company to divide the the entire fund to 8. Each percentage of this is to be transferred to your account every month, on a regular basis, for example, 25th of every month. Let the money keep coming in. It should not be dump. That is my advise. Should you need more info, just write here:... The company's name will be on the Ds form. or what do you advise. Should they transfer to me and i present my statement? I am just asking just to know the best way. My application is fall 2019 and am preparing ahead. I will be going with my wife and the funds should be able to cover for both of us. Thank you[/quote] |
You should get your visa. Spring2019: |
Your case might be different. Keep your hope alive! Spring2019: |
Will you mention your employer's name or the company's name as the sponsor on your dsform? if the statement has employer's personal name, you can. If it's a company name, well, it is in God's name and the kind of consular interviewing you. If employer transfer fund pragya2017: |
When is your program start date? Techibility: |
That must have been the date you're granted. You pick that as fast as you can, or you loose it when it expires. Techibility: |
It is also part of our government strategies to curb the evident "brain drain" and heavy migration. You have seen what Africans did to Europe recently. Nigeria is a broken State; ain't you surprised that your government isn't ready to caution foreign embassies here on taking visa fees when visa will not be granted? More so, many young Nigerians are disaffected, which is why young people are the highest percentage at the US embassy. Whether genuine or not, I will not blame them. They are helpless fighters. They know they have potentials, but their own country is hostile to that. They gotta do what they need to do. Also, based on research and available data, close to 90% of Africans who are granted US student visa don't return to their native countries--either after graduation or as they got in. The pressure from Trump is also there. homirefacuny: |
For those of you that can afford it and not minding the extra expenses and for 100% positive visa outcome, go and become a registered member of EducationUSA in Lagos or Abuja. Registration fee is $200. Every member of this agency are US embassy priority. They are the first class student visa applicant at the embassy. At least, as much as I am informed, I am yet to see an EAC member denied. Your Senators', governors' and commissioners' kids go through this route. But to be eligible for membership, you must not have applied to any school at the point of registration; once the agency knows you have gotten admission yourself, they will not register you. There is also age limit: for undergraduate student, I think it is 20 (it was 21 as of 2009); for masters, it has to be under 28 or so. Visit the Lagos or Abuja branch to confirm. You must be 100% genuine student. They will do background check on ya. You will do WES, write English test, even when they school don't need it. In addition, I share in the grieve and pain of those who are recently denied. A very good friend I met on this forum was delayed this morning, and it is painful because we did everything a student could possibly do for a successful visa outcome. Yet she was denied, for Heaven's sake reason. Things are changing very fast now. Only the rich and those with extra-ordinary luck will get through. While the rate of denial goes up, we are watching and observing. With the recent article on Nigerian newspapers, we will definitely get the crowd down, and then chances of issuance will increase again. I know the embassy policy will change again, and more visa will be issued, perhaps towards late 2019--as crowd would have reduced significantly. Don't give up on your dreams. God bless you all. |
Can rob minds. How old are you Demolajones: |

If you have submitted it, just fill a fresh DSFORM. Then update your profile on the appointment website with the fresh dsform number. slamcole: |
Have you submitted this? If not you can edit and change it. slamcole: |
You are on the right thread. Go back and read as much as your energy can take. If you have questions, drop it here. If you need guidelines, you can write to me. There are so many guys here willing to help you. Good luck. Demolajones: |
The questions are generally the same.: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS SCHOOL? HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS SCHOOL? HOW MANY SCHOOLS DID YOU APPLY TO? HOW MANY OFFERED ADMISSION? DID YOU WRITE ANY STANDARDIZE EXAM? HOW DID YOU GET THIS SCHOLARSHIP? TELL ME ABOUT THIS PROGRAM? WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING SINCE YOU FINISH HIGH SCHOOL? WHO IS YOUR SPONSOR? WHAT DOES HE/SHE DO? Now, some of these questions always pop up during the interview. Depends on the consular, you may only be asked 3-5 questions. However, prepare for each question. It is simple: spread your seed left and right, front and back, for you know not which one will sprout and grow tomorrow. Prepare a tailored, personal response based on your career and academic goals, etc. No do copy copy o. Goodluck. lullu: |
Yes, that is where you will indicate your sponsor. Good luck! paulemi: |
Yes, I know that. But appointment has been scheduled already and he changed his mind. On his profile, a prompt is showing if he cancel the appointment, MRV fee will be paid again to book another appointment. Godchangemylife: |
A student is asking me what happens to his visa fee if he doesn't show for interview. I have no idea! Anybody here? |
Apply for an Expedited Appointment Overview If you have an unforeseen travel need as per one of the criteria listed below, you may qualify for an expedited appointment depending on availability at the Embassy or Consulate. It is important to ensure you meet all the criteria, because applicants are only allowed to create one expedited appointment request. Qualifications Before you apply for an expedited appointment, you must ensure that you have documentary evidence to prove the urgency. If it appears during your visa interview that you misrepresented the reasons for expedited travel, such facts will be noted on your case file and may adversely influence the outcome of your visa application. All applicants requesting an expedited appointment are required to first pay visa fees for a regular visa appointment. Applicants who are granted an expedited appointment but subsequently refused a visa at either the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will not be allowed to utilize this option in either location to obtain another expedited appointment. Students or exchange visitors Purpose of travel is to begin or resume a valid program of study in the United States within 60 days when no regular visa appointments are available. This option is limited only to students and exchange students who are within 60 days of their start date. It is also limited only to applicants who have not been refused a visa within the last six months at either the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. Essential documentation: Original Form I-20 or DS-2019 indicating start date of program within 60 days. Applying for an Expedited Appointment Step 1 Pay the visa application fee. Step 2 Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form. Step 3 Schedule an appointment online for the earliest available date. Please note that you must schedule an appointment before you can request an expedited date. At the time you schedule your appointment, you will see an onscreen message showing the earliest available appointment date, which includes expedited appointments. Accordingly, you may find that it is not necessary to request an expedited appointment because there are no earlier dates available. If you wish to proceed with requesting an expedited appointment, then complete the Request Form or contact the call center to request assistance. Please be sure to note the criteria you believe qualifies you for an expedited appointment. Once you have submitted your request, please wait for a response from the Embassy, which will come via email. Step 4 If the Embassy approves your request then you will receive an email alerting you to schedule your expedited appointment online. Please understand that the call center cannot schedule your expedited appointment for you, but agents are able to assist you if questions arise. Should the Embassy deny your request for an expedited appointment, you will be notified of the denial by email and you should keep your existing appointment. Note: The email confirming or denying your request will come from no-reply@ustraveldocs.com. Some email applications have rules which filter unknown senders into a spam or junk mail folder. If you have not received your email notification, please look for the message in your junk and spam email folders. |
Book that January 12 then request for expedient. You cannot request for expedient appointment until you first book the earliest appointment date available. That is the requirement! Beauideal: |
Keep Calm during the F1 interview. If you are not the type who listen attentively, make sure you exhibit this quality during the 2-3 minutes interview. For those of you who have been recently denied, don't blame yourself for it all. Sometimes, it is not you or even what you say. Anyhow it is, don't give up easily on what you start intentionally as some dreams will not come true without fighting and pushing. |
Okay. To get an expedient appointment, you need to have everything ready. This includes confirmation of SEVIS payment, MRV receipt, I-20, and all other documents. First, look at the program start date on your i-20 and check if it is less than 60 days. If it is, then proceed to picking a date. Pick the earliest available date at the consulate you'd like to be interview. When you're done, go back to the mainpage and request a feedback. There, state what you want...then attach scan copies of supporting documents. You will be notified if you are eligible or not. This is cool when you can't find suitable date or your resumption date is very close. I trust you understand me? If you still need additional guideline, write to me here God bless your endeavour. yuscodguy: |
Still, it is the school that can tell. Contact your admission director, and this information will be provided. Merico96: |
Only the school can tell when is the deadline for admission. So, check the website of the school you'd be applying to and you'll find the deadline there. Most schools' Spring 2019 deadline has passed. But you can try summer or fall 2019. Good luck Merico96: |
You had similar experience? homirefacuny: |
If you have handled other questions very well, this will be fine. In fact, it portrays you as a genuine student. In my own opinion, you'll do fine. This question alone and your response to it will not be the only determiner of the interview outcome. With strong point and response for other questions, you should get your visa. But funny enough these days, these questions may not even come up during the interview. elevatedmind: |

For those of you who sent me your transcript or who would like to have a mock, please understand that myself and other contributors here are also busy sorting out our own affairs. If you send anyone here your transcript for review and suggestion, kindly be patient. If your interview is close and the mock is necessary to prepare you, please remind the person you sent your transcript to. While you do that, step outside yourself and try to look at your proposed transcript as though you're the consular officer these words are being said to. assess each response to each question one-by-one. "MODIFIED" Put yourself in the VO shoe. Just for this assessment, be the consular you hope would interview you. Does the response above make any sense? Does it sound personal, tailored and convincing? (Don't even think of using it; be inspired and create your own). The purpose of writing this is that, if you are going for an interview, you are expected to say something the consular has not heard from other students recently interviewed by him/her. How do you do that? By creating something of your own. Prepare your own transcript. Wield words together like a wielder joining iron--bit by bit. If you are short of ideas, read a good motivational book or post about job interview. You will certainly get inspiration from there. |
