Evaluate your transcripts first, both HND and the one from Cyprus.
Once you have the evaluated transcript, getting into a PHD program will be easier.
You can take your wife with you, if you are fully funded; or you can go first and she can join later. You will make that decision by yourself. You may be refused for going with you, and you may be approved...depending on the VO you meets during the interview and where you are interviewed. But you can go together.

To increase your chances of funding, I advise you to write the GRE test. It will increase your chances. But you may find schools that will not need it.

All the best.
Drhay:
Good evening everyone, firstly i will state that i am new here (thread), having read from page 1 and got tired along the way till jumping to page 60 to get latest i think i can just ask for help directly. Thanks to everyone contributing to the success.

Firstly i finished my HND in computer engineering 2017 with 2.68/ 4 cgpa, and then applied to turkey for Msc but denied, then i got an admission in 2021/2022 for Msc in computer engineering in cyprus TRNC, i recently just graduated my Msc with 3.06/4 cgpa. My thesis is in computer vision and deep learning , not published yet. I would like to go for my phD in the USA, i am married now (this year) and would like to go with my wife.

My question are

1. Can you help me with schools i can apply to , possibly i can get funding or tuition waivers

2. Please how can i go about applications before proceeding to visa stage

3. Is it possible to take my wife along

4. What are the chances of getting funded.

I will be happy to get your reply so i can start my journey

This is from one my old posts. I hope it helps someone!

The rules still apply. Every student still have a chance, even after 2-7 denials. Even after 10 refusals!!! Yes! I keep saying it: I know more than 4 students who got their visas after 4 denials respectively (the 5th time). I got mine after 9 attempts! One of my closest friends, 8th attempt!

Why so many denials if they were to be granted eventually? I have no idea. I also know several students who got it first appearance. I once tried to look at the determining factors between these two groups, and I can't find much. The first-time student appear calm, confident, and did not have occupied fear of denials, no travel experience either. One of them is a close friend. Victor is a simple guy; he doesn't worry or carry things for head. He is a good example of calmness. On his interview day, he behaved as though he is unaware that US embassy denials a lot. He took himself there and got it. (of course, there are other factors).

I have learned that we can't achieve much in this life if we are not confident and calm in our pursuit. So, I want to encourage prospective students. Learn these qualities as you prepare for your interview and in other areas of your endeavours: confidence, ability to be calm under pressure (this doesn't come easily except it's in your gene to take things lightly. For me, it is difficult experiences that taught me calmness, and I am still learning).
Please don't picture yourself in another student's scenario. Someone has been denied, but it is not you. Have faith and keep calm.
You need to find it within yourself to believe that your case is different. And even when you're denied, keep believing.

You want to leave Nigeria and never have anything to do with this country again? You don't like it here, and you want to go as fast as you can? Well, change that perspective. No carry America education for head. It will happen, but let it not be do or die, or else, you will put yourself under unnecessary pressure and it will not help.

I am just looking for avenue to encourage you guys.

You are confused huh. That is all I can say! Have a good evening.

lhordspy:
To be learned is when you have acquired knowledge through study, inquiry or investigation. Being Learned also means being able to pass on the information.

To be informed is different, when someone is informed, it means someone has been acquainted with information and knowledge about something. He is having or showing knowledge about that particular thing.

You acquire knowledge to be learned. But you need to be vested that knowledge upon to be informed. You need to understand the fact of that situation clearly.

Being informed doesn't require you to be capable of passing on that knowledge. You just need to be able to understand the situatiom clearly. BUT to be learned, you need have acquired the knowledge and be well able and capable to pass it on.

People who are 'Learned' make other people 'informed' .

If they are the most educated and learned people, how are they still the most uninformed? That is a contradictory sentence. A learned person is informed. To be learned means to have information to make prudent decisions.

lhordspy:
In as much as Amer!can citizens are one of the most educated, learned and advance people. I think they are the most uninformed people on planet earth. Their warmongering government keeps lying to them; keeping them in the dark about the truth behind their foreign war expedition and political meddling. They have been using media propaganda to suppress the people's thinking and reasoning ability for long.

It is refreshing to see the lawmakers are starting to see it the way it should be. The good American citizens are starting to wake up and see their government for who they really are. US is about to raise its debt ceiling, yet keep pumping more billion of dollars into unending war. As of 2023, the total national debt and the debt ceiling both stood at $31.4 trillion. The U.S. government has run a deficit averaging nearly $1 trillion every year since 2001, meaning it spends that much more money than it receives in taxes and other revenue. Yet keep sponsoring different war in different countries, at the detriment of the good people of Amer!ca.

The world are still waiting for the weapon of mass destruction they found in Libya and Iraq. Or is that not the reason they invaded the two countries?

Visit your parents in Canada and return to Nigeria, then go back to the U.S. embassy. Then you will get your visa. Additionally, frustration rubs us of the energy necessary to preserve in the face of obstacles, such as this denial.

You seem frustrated, and so you are ready to throw in the towel. Does that mean you do not really want to go to America for studies, but just a 'let-see-what-is-there?' If it is a dream to study in the U.S., try again after a visit to your parents in Canada. If not, then don't bother.

It is not advised to apply to one school. And yes, your friend was right. You could be refused, and several students have been refused in the past for just this. The standard is 2-4 for graduate school and 4 for undergraduate. If you were to get admission through guidance from EducationUSA, they would only take you if you apply to multiple schools.

It is safe for you too. Of course, people apply to one school and lie at the embassy that they did multiple.

You can see an earlier date, but the way the date system works, you may not see the same date that someone who does not have an appointment sees. In some cases, to see an earlier date, you may have to cancel the current one. This automatically puts you in the pool of those who did not have a current appointment so that when new dates are released, you also see it.

A lot has changed. Before, you can have a date and see earlier dates that those without appointments are seeing. But these days, it is complicated.

AmazingDoyin:
Please is it possible to get a date earlier than what I already chose on the CGI portal (the date I was given and I chose was June 2023)
But each time I login to reschedule when someone updates an earlier date I'm always seeing July 2023.
Will I ever see an earlier date flash on my screen or do I need to cancel this June date?
Thank you.

Yes, she can do that!
I don't know how the self-sponsor will work out. This is the angle to look at things from how much is in the account. Will it cover 2 years of the program or is it only one year? If it is just one year (which is the least amount you need to show), the consular will be looking at it from this angle: where do you get additional funds when the one-year fee in the student account is expended? You can't work on f1. So, I personally don't like the idea of f1 self-sponsor. Some VOs may not care, but most do...especially a nurse. It may give the impression that she will want to work illegally or be out of status when the one-year funds in her account are expended.

I advise her to co-sponsor. She finds a family member as a sponsor, saying she will be paying for her living expenses from the funds she saved up over the years while working in the UK. Also, there is a possibility she may be refused and told to apply from Nigeria. So, she should apply with this information in mind.

This is just my opinion, from experience.

Hello everyone,

Please I need help with my question, can someone apply for F1 visa from the UK?

My friend is a registered nurse in the UK, and recently got masters admission in MPH for spring 2023.

Self sponsored, can he apply for F1 from the UK?
How do he show ties and convince the visa officer that he will come back to Nigeria or to the UK?
Did he have any chances of getting the visa from the UK, or does he need to come to Nigeria to apply for the f1 visa.
Please help.

It depends on the applicant's case. Last 2 months, one of the guys who reached out to me here applied with his wife and child, and they were approve at the same spot -- without/with assistantship. If the case is without assistantship, I recommend they drop the f2 for now and apply alone, and the family can join later. Sometimes, I suggest they try together, if they are refused, the f1 try alone and f2 can join later. It always work, but it is case by case.

Thank you for your contribution.
Why the VO asked why OP didn't apply together with her husband? Does it mean that OP might get the F2 visa had it been that she applied with her husband (F1)?

But these companies' products are Made in China. How do you explain that? America does not have the skilled and industrious workforce to make these gadgets at the rate the Chinese are making them. So, if China factories closed down, where would they go? Africa? Europeans are not so industrious as the Chinese.

For this world to be a better place, we need each other. China is a very important global player!

Foreign AffairsRe: US Bans ‘advanced Tech’ Firms From Building Facilities In China For 10 Years by fairheart(m): 9:54pm On Sep 07, 2022
This is a layman's view of things. If you say China was built by America, did Africa build China too?
China built itself by having a large skilled and industrious workforce, which has dwindled within the last 2 decades in America.
Same way, China simply positions itself as a global manufacturing hub powered by cheap labor, which means more profits for American companies operating in China. Most Americans will and cannot do the tasks and jobs that the Chinese are doing to produce global commodities. So, how would China not have a competitive advantage over America?

Same way, Africa is not able to produce most of what China is producing for us.

Do you know what this means? It means that while we should produce for ourselves, we go to China to produce it and bring it home. And there is a universal law: who he produces makes most of the money.
The U.S cannot untangle from China! To do that will crush the American economy, and its citizens will struggle to produce the majority of the commodities that are produced in China. I am in the U.S., and most commodities, computers, and stuff here carry Made in China.

Moving on, it is the country that makes things for others that hold the key to global economic dominance, and that country is China, followed by (in the near future, India). It is a matter of time, but I sense that two global economies will be in Asia.

Have a nice day!

Please what has gone wrong here?
And how soon can I reapply?
How do I answer what has changed?

I am seriously down since yesterday, please help me out.
The ideal time frame should have been 3 to 6 months. This is what I always advise! As F2, unable to work, or study, it doesn't make sense to say you will be jobless for 5 years. 5 years! It is like you are saying, "Hey, I will be sacrificing my career to go sit in the U.S with my husband for 5 years."
That is why the consular asked you twice: "Do you want to stay in the U.S for three years? You want to stay in the U.S for 5 years." Which employer will wait for you for 5 years? 5 years! 1 year is reasonable, and 2 is acceptable in rare circumstances, but 5 years?

You also said the purpose of going is to support him. You didn't specify why; even saying the kids miss him and I have missed the daily hug I get will arouse the empathy of the VO and consider your purpose for applying legitimate. Of course, it is legitimate, but in my opinion, you should have planned this well.

Who is funding your trip? You said his GTA!!! No! Are you saying you do not have any funds saved from your own years of working? If he has been saving for 8 years, why would he sponsor you from his GTA? Where is that saving? Even if he is the one paying, why say his GTA? If he is paying flight from GTA, how much is that? If your own income is considerably lower than his, and you are going away for 5 years means no income for you, how would that stipend take care of 4 people?

"You could have said my husband has a saving of 5 million naira before he left, and I will be using these funds for our flights and during our stay."

You see, the VO was probing, which is why he/she wanted to know how much both of you earn. A key factor in Visa approval is funding. The U.S. has refused more people due to weak financial circumstances (or answers that portray applicants so) than any other reasons. You did not overcome that during the interview, and my opinion is that the VO was not convinced you'd return if you're approved.

Nevertheless, it is not over. Make changes and go back...but give it time. This time, craft strong and emotional reasons for wanting to go support your busy husband and think about whether you really want to insist you want to leave your job for 5 years on a visa you are not eligible to work. But be specific on how long. Why that long?

All of what you just read is opinion based on my assessment of Q&A in the transcript you shared. You don't have to take any of it seriously.
All the best!
Foreign AffairsRe: NATO Calls Russia Its ‘Most Significant and Direct Threat’ by fairheart(m): 3:09am On Jul 03, 2022
I am in the U.S and I can tell you that all America will do is research on how to invade Russia but will not actually do it. It will be suicidal; it is like saying Russia can successfully invade the U.S and get out victoriously. It is almost impossible! Most of you on Nairaland is not as exposed as you often claim to be. For the most powerful country (militarily) to declare a country as an "existential threat," you should know that country is potent!

The day the U.S attempt to rally European Nations to invade Russia is the day WWW III will start, and it will be fought with nuclear weapons.
I can tell you based on the assessment of US military generals that the US would rather weaken Russia and see if it can be divided than launching a military invasion. First, their armies will be overstretched, given the size of Russia and 11 or 12 different time zones. Secondly, you have to make Russia incapable of launching its BMS and hypersonic weapons, which can reach anywhere in the US and in Europe. Right now, that is a pipe dream.

Also, you must be able to fire a lot of missiles to destroy the Capital and other key military sites, most of which are armed with the world's best air defense systems. I can tell you that No country at this moment can and will invade Russia and return alive.

What about Russia's ability to destroy U.S military satellites for defensive purposes? Remember, Russia is one of the best 2 countries in space technologies, and they have innovated to weaponize space. So, they will be waiting from there as well.

It may have made some mistakes in Ukraine, but Russia is a powerful country. It is unfortunate that the Russia-Ukraine crisis turned into a war. This should have been settled peacefully.

You mentioned Hitler's Germany, but Russia is not Germany. If Hitler had the nuclear weapons and technologies that present Russia has, war two would have turned out differently; maybe part of the U.S would be inhabitable by now. But Russia can and will do that to defend itself.

Lastly, let no one pray for a war that directly attacks Russia. It's a law in Russia that if they are attacked first, they will use nuclear weapons.
Peace is better than war.

Have a great weekend!

mach7:
Same was said about the USSR. But Hitler in 1941 didn't read the script.

In Military planning, you don't plan based on sentiments, but rather on realities.

The US has always been interested in invading Russia and clearly developed plans for it.

NATO was not created for Russia.

It was created after the first world war in 1945.
Germany was the Villain here.

Russian became the 'enemy' of NATO & Vice versa due to its government's tendencies.

Note that (technically), the Russian Federation didn't exist until 1991. And former USSR countries (Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia) are members of NATo today.

Q1 How long have I worked in my current job

A. 1 year and 8 months

Q2 How long have I worked in my previous job

A. 2 years and 1 month

Q3 Do I have a study leave

A. Not yet. This is pending getting my visa approval

Q4 What is my post study plan

A. I intend to return to my current place of work, in a mid level management position. My organization is undergoing a transition phase and this is expected to last 3-5 years during which our operations will expand beyond the western region to a nationwide coverage. This will open up many positions and with my experience and degree, I will be positioned to fill one of these new positions.

Then the magic words came with the white paper.

No documents were asked asides passport and i-20. Maintained eye contact all through. Had zero tension, abi anxiety.

*Three weeks ago (yes, three weeks ago) I did not have my i-20, interview date or made any payment for my Visa. applied for EA in Lagos and they bounced me before I switched to Abuja and got a close regular date. I didn't even know my funding will be full till I saw my i-20. And I was expected to be in school before July 5 for start of my summer classes. My DSO was doubtful of my chances cos the timing was too close.

Fast forward to today, I'm checking flights to Midtown St Louis and warming breakfast to serve my employer. Everything happened so fast and I'm yet to process all of these. GOD IS REAL.

Thank you to everyone who responded to questions, contributed and supported others here. Y'all the real MVPs.

It really took a village to make this happen

Still useful!

fairheart:
I found this from the list of one of my old posts here and I thought I would share with those of you that are not sure how to get emergency appointment:

HOW TO REQUEST FOR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT

NOTE: Emergency appointments are mostly approved for students who are requesting within 60 days of their program start date (program start date is on your I-20). So, make sure you you are applying within that 60 days. But if it is beyond that at the moment, relax; don't let others' approval news push you to request before the required period or you may limit your visa lifetime and be forced to pay another visa fee if you didn't get a suitable date later.

To proceed

1, Pay visa fee, SEVIS fee, and at least, start your DS-160 FORM and have the application Number; according to the U.S embassy site, you are encouraged to complete it.

2, Create your CGI profile and fill in the details.

3. Proceed by booking any available date you see, even if the current available appointment date is 2024, book it (Schedule an appointment online for the earliest available date. Please note that you must schedule an appointment before you can request an expedited date. At the time you schedule your appointment, you will see an onscreen message showing the earliest available appointment date, which includes emergency appointments--from the US embassy site).

4, Once you are done, return to your landing page and you will see "Emergency Request." Click that and read the details on the page that loads. Once you are done, Click Here at the bottom of that page.

5, On the Emergency Request page, Fill in your tentative date. Then type your reason for requesting emergency appointment. This is a constructive message explaining that you did not see a suitable date that works for your program start date as stated on the I-20 and so, you need an interview appointment date before your program start date.

6, Since you have paid the fees mentioned in step 1, upload the pdf document in the file section below the box you type your message. Remember, your SEVIS fee payment confirmation, I20. You may attach a third document such as assistantship letter or admission letter, but this is not required.

The embassy usually reply within 3 days.
Read more about Emergency appointment request from the U.S embassy's designated page for it:

https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-emergencyappointment.html

Remember, getting a visa is not just about getting an admission and a date. Put in the effort to prepare for your interview; show confidence, speak up, let the consular feel energy in your voice. You have invested money, time, and other resources to come this far, the interview is the last phase to getting the visa. Give it your best. Do not go to embassy not knowing why you pick your school, your course, and what you want to do with the degree after graduation. If your appearance at the embassy this time is your chance to finally get the visa, please prepare. Let your preparation meets the opportunity!

All the best!

Pls, I need help.
My bro, paid my SEVIS fee using USPS money order. It has not been delivered since 25th last month that the money order has been sent.i called USPS,they keep telling me it is in transit and the exact location can not be trace.i tracked the money order using the serial number on it.it says the money order has has not been cashed.pls what can I do.
350usd is not moimoi
My interview date is 23rd of this month
That is a wrong option to use to pay SEVIS.
He should have used Western Union, which can be paid and confirmed within 5 minutes.

Since you use a money order, you will have to relax as it may take weeks for it to be processed. Don't panic; the money order will get to the designated hand and your SEVIS will be marked paid, but you can't control when that happens. Relax

Hello Fairheart

Thank you for all you do in this forum.

Please I need your advice.
I'm in a dilemma.

So my husband and I booked US Visa appointments.
Note: My husband is F1 with 3 dependents (me and our two kids).
We have full funding.

However we made a mistake of applying for emergency visa outside of our '60days to start date' window and we were denied.
We took this decision because a friend of ours did same and he was approved.

Now our regular appointment is for Feb. 2023.
And the emergency appointment option is no longer displaying in our dashboard.
What should we do ...

Can we cancel the appointment and pay a fresh visa fee...will it guarantee that the emergency window will come back?

Or any other solution we can choose.

Thank you in advance for your kind response
Well, you can cancel and move your appointment location (where you wish to be interviewed) to the second embassy.
Alternatively, people are booking dates on daily basis. At least, someone I know booked yesterday for Abuja.

Do not pay a new visa fee yet as that would be too much. You can still get a standard date without the need to use the emergency option.
One technique I do share in with my students is, to check try times a day. Early morning, afternoon, and midnight. Do these every day between the two embassies. Also, there's still time and I am sure you will get a date. So, relax and don't pay a new fee yet.

All the best

You are just pro Putin with beer palour analysis. You are not realistic.
When a supposedly wise person says others who have been realistic are not, then he must question his wisdom. If you understand international relations and the rules of war, you'd see that the dude you attacked is actually telling things as they are.

Russia never wanted to attack Ukraine; all the countries involved and supplying weapons never really wanted to. Misinterpretation of situations and context each country evaluates the situations bordering the issues that led to this conflict caused it. The reality is, with more weapons in Ukraine, there will be more casualties, more destruction, and more pain.

The guy you insulted was telling the truth: the best solution is peace, which more weapons from Germany are not making possible. Ask yourself what it'd take to make Ukraine a neutral state? Nothing! In fact, analysis shows it is the best thing for Ukraine because being neutral will let it flourish, and have a relationship with the EU, Russia, and the U.S. This will also guarantee its peace. Unfortunately, when great power nations fight, it is the countries in the middle that suffers. That is Ukraine! The more weapon they receive, the more Russia will increase its offensive!

The idea is that Russia is willing to lose, but the loss will not stop it. As more weapon comes in from the West, Russia is also bringing out advanced weapons. It is terrible! Russia is willing to lose, but not Ukraine! That is why more weapon is not good.

If you check Putin's attitude since he became a president, once he said something, he follows through.
You should apologize to that guy; he understands things better than you!

To corroborates what he said, peace is the solution.

All I know is that this war have exposed Russia's weakness more than ever before.

Aside the size of their military personnel and nuclear capabilities , Russia is just another Nigeria.... Confuse and uncoordinated.

They just exposed their many inadequacies undecided

America Don see dem finish now undecided
You sounded so educated, yet you do not understand geopolitical games. Russia is not weak; I can tell you that Russia is not weak.
What's happening in Ukraine is not a test of capabilities, but sheer decimation -- to make the Ukraine infrastructurally, economically, and financially weak. With this visibly seen, the idea that Ukraine will not join NATO is not fully registered and is being accepted by the whole of the EU.

Secondly, consider that Russia is not a weak state. Russia is the only country that has been able to stop the U.S military agenda in the middle east, with Syria being an example. There is still a government in Syria because Russia's military and bases are there, despite the U.S pushing for the removal of Assad.

Also, the heavy casualty is expected of any army involved in urban warfare as there is a high risk of exposure. Urban warfare is the most difficult, and so a country with the strong army is at risk of losing, and this could be the U.S, or China.

One thing I do see as a major weakness on the part of its military if you understand Russia's military history is the morale of its army. The soldiers are unwilling to fight. When it comes to weapons, Russia is one of the best 3 countries with the most effective military hardware, and that is why they are the second-largest producer of weapons in the world. A country cannot be the second-largest arms supplier if it does not have military prowess. According to some analyses, Russia has the best air defence system in the world and some of the most efficient submarines. And do not forget, the country is also a major leader in space technologies and others.

I want to believe that if the invasion of Ukraine were to be an all-out war, Ukraine's Capital would be in ruin by now. Or do you think they couldn't strike the capital? They can! But this is not an all-out war! Remember their goal is to weaken Ukraine so that it becomes unsuitable for EU membership and force it to abandon NATO membership.

I read here how Nairaland kids compare Russia to Nigeria; while Russia may not be right with its invasion, it does not make it a less country, stooping so low that anyone would compare it to Nigeria or even any country in the EU. The largest country in the world, with 11-time zone or so, one of the 3 largest producers of wheat, oil, and other vital products the world depends. No matter how terrible she is faring in its military activities in Ukraine, Russia is still a nation of global importance and a strategic country. That is why other global players like Germany, China, India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Qatar, and so on deal with it and continue to deal with it.

Whether Russia wins or loses, its global importance will not vanish. In fact, I suspect that the outcome in Ukraine will make Russia further modernize its army for the next generation of war.

My position is that dialogue is the best method. Weapon never makes peace, but pieces. I hope you learn a little!

Good Morning Fam!

Please is there any other company offering loan scheme because Mpower didnt list Morgan State University.
thank you.

Is it still possible to get full funded programmes in Education for Fall 2022? If yes, I will be
gratefull if you can avail me of a list of some of them.

Thank you.
The best way to get into a funded program is to remove hastiness. Education programs in the U.S can be sometimes competitive as it is one of the fields Americans are highly interested in. So, your best bet is to apply earlier, have a solid and persuasive SOP that shows your potential as a competitive candidate. The University of Maine offers a full-ride Master's in Education, but I am certain the deadline has passed. Also, Don't wait until people here share schools; get to work and start searching for yourself.

Use Google

Master's in Education in (make a list of top first states you'd like to study) in Maine.
Universities offering Masters in Education in Texas.

You can do this for all 5 states. Note, school searching is perhaps the toughest part, especially if you want funding. But you can do it if you take your time. Also, do you necessarily have to start the program in fall 2022? What is your plan if that is not feasible? Be flexible. Spring and fall 2023 may not be a bad idea too, as you will apply for a priority deadline and that will give you an advantage for funding.

All the best
