Yes! The more school hours apply to, the better your opportunity to select the best one and, perhaps, receive funding. Sevis fee must be paid before interview and a coupon must be generated to make this payment. However, interview appointment can be scheduled before payment of sevis. AmbassadorSam01: Are the chances of visa approval high when applied to many schools, compared to applying to one school only.?
When can the sevis fee be paid before interview? In paying sevis fee,is it compulsory to first generate a payment coupon? |

MelaninGemstone: Visa denied in Lagos May 4, 2021
First time, First denial COA: $60k No funding at all University: Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ
NB: My best friend is saying I shouldn’t post my transcript on NL, but I’m posting it, so maybe someone will learn a thing or two.
Background: The queue was very long, over 300 people or more got interviewed today. Our biometrics were taken by 2 white guys. One middle aged and one young guy. I didn’t even know they were VO’s too. I thought they were just ordinary embassy staffs. I guess they were taking the biometrics to reduce the queue. Then as soon as there was no one else for biometrics. They resumed their VO duties.
There was an elderly VO, I was hoping he would interview me, he was not denying based on sentiments. He would analyze your case well and let you defend yourself and speak. He approved people that were able to speak well and defend themselves and denied those that were beating around the bush.
He had just finished interviewing someone, and it was my time to be interviewed, his window was vacant, but Unfortunately, as I approached, he left his desk, he was going for a short recess I think.
I was ushered to a young VO. One of those who were taking biometrics earlier.
VO: Pass your passport and I-20
Me: passed it
VO: What is taking you to the United States ?
Me: *talking boldly and with a loud voice* ...I am going to Stevens Institute of Technology, the third most prestigious University in the state of New Jersey for my Masters in CyberSecurity.
VO cuts in and says: I don’t need to know that information.
*insinuating that I shouldn’t have told him my school is the third most prestigious institution in NJ
*My heart started beating fast and I became nervous, that I have messed up.
VO: What would this degree do for you?
Me: This course of study has concentrations in Network security and data Protection and it pertains to what I currently need in my workplace for career growth. I work in an IT company.
*due to the fact that I was already nervous. I blurted the above out so fast.
VO tells me. Hold up. Take a deep breath. Now continue.
I continued...the course would also assist me to get the much needed promotion I have been working so hard for in my company.
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I also applied to Bowling Green State University, Bowie University Maryland and Kennesaw State University.
VO: How many admitted you?
Me: Stevens, BGSU and KSU admitted me, while I’m waiting a response from Bowie.
VO: Who’s paying for this?
Me: My mother ...then I added, I have her account statement here.
VO: What does she do?
Me: She is a real estate developer, she acquires hectares of land and develops it into estates. She also builds houses and sells. And develops for people too.
VO: How many staffs does she have ?
Me: About 15-20
VO: What is her monthly income
Me: 3.6 million.
*Now this was where I messed up. My mom does not have a fixed monthly income. She is a businesswoman and her money comes in steadily. I don’t know what made me say 3.6 million. I was already nervous and feeling dizzy. I’m sure my mother earns more than that monthly.
VO: Who does she live with ?
Me: She lives with my younger sister
*Honestly I don’t understand why he asked me this question
VO: Who do you live with ?
Me: I live alone, then I added with my fiancée
*I actually live with my fiancée, I don’t know why I said I live alone in the first place. Maybe because my fiancée is not currently around and I have been alone for 2 months.
VO: You live alone, with your fiancée. Okay
He types on his system for about a minute.
*I feel they type in the questions they ask us and our responses for record purposes.
VO reaches to the stack of letters, picks out a denial letter and hands to me. Then says “you don’t have the funding requirement for this program”
He didn’t even bother checking my moms account statement. It had a very good balance 1.You didn't do your home work well. And trust me, I have seen cases where overconfidence kill the chances of approval. First, you disgusted the VO with saying it is a prestigious school. No need for that. I always tell my students, don't give unnecessary information. In fact, it is useless to start bragging about a school. It doesn't had any chance to getting approved. 2, Can you take a look at other schools you applied to? The right school on that chart would be other tier 2 schools, top ranking universities. 3, You were going for a school with a cost of attendance of $60K. I always say it here, always consider the reality of things when selecting a school. Unfortunately, you overlooked that reality. Your school is way too expensive, especially because it is a blank admission without scholarship or assistantship. More so, we are in a pandemic, with people source of income significantly affected and unable to make as much as they were making before the pandemic. What happened to other schools that are well-ranked but not as much as expensive? $60K a year, in my opinion and based on reality, is too much. If you had asked on this thread whether or not you should use this admission, I would have advised you against it. 4, Did you say you Mum makes 3.6 Million every month? Okay, let us be realistic. 3.6 X 12 (in a year) is 43M, less that your total cost of attendance for 9 months, one academic year! So, even if your Mum pumps in her anual income, it still can't pay your COA. She has responsibilities, other family members, etc. Come on. Someone that can confidently pay $60k in nine month to fund her daughter should make more than 3.6, except she has been saving over the years for you. I am sharing this because this is the angle the VO that interviewed you looked at things from. Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked who does live with (wanted to know other family members your Mum support from that 3.6million). When the VO asked who your Mum lives with, you left out mentioning your Dad, giving impression she may be seperated or divorce. 5, You live alone but with your fiance, meaning there's a plan to get married soon. I know your interview was less than 5 minutes or so, but you see those questions you were asked and the way you answered says a lot about your credibility for the F-1 Visa. He sense lies. I see in your other post that you are disgruntled by the way the VO handled your interview. It is not the VO's fault; you caused it and you should take responsibility and go back to your drawing board and repackage yourself. You caused the instability and nervousness with your overconfidence with saying you're going to a top school, and the VO responded accordingly. The VO was not discriminatory at all; you gave him the sense of unbelief by your answers. You showed indirectly that your sponsor can't afford the school you are going, and on that ground, he refused you. He did what he was trained to do. MY ADVISE FOR YOU 1. Do not reapply except you have funding or scholarship that reduces your cost of attendance. I am sure a remark must have been left on your profile. 2. Prepare to prove your credibility. If in your next interview question arise on your fiance, make sure you let the VO knows that you wanted to get this master's before you settle down and marry him, as you would not want to live apart doing your MS in the U.S once you get married. 3. Consider applying to other school that promises funding. In your other post, you said Stevenson graduate students get jobs upon graduation. That is correct, but so is the case for other school. Students who graduated in 400 nationally ranked universities also get jobs, especially since IT skills are in high demand. So, I advise you correct your belief. It doesn't have to be that school for you to get a good job. I have seen students from colleges in Florida get high paying internship with Microsoft, Google, and all. 4. In life, overconfidence can cheat us of what we want. Find balance in how you see things. I can sense you irritated the VO from the way the interview started. But that happens. I advise you find a balance in your next interview. Confidence can be negative if not checked. Find balance. 5. It is not the end. Strategize and go back. All the best! |

Consular: Is your program 3years ? Me: it's 2 years plus 1 year OPT.( infact I emphasized that it was optional.. So basically 2years,because that's what I filled on ds160 application) Consular : Have you traveled out of Nigeria before? Me: Yes, I traveled to India in 2016 ,to have a left robotic pyloplasty surgery, because I was suffering from a pelvic ureteric junction obstruction. Consular: do you have any relative in the USA? Me: yes, I have a distant relative. Consular : How will you be paying for the deficit? Me : In addition to the graduate assistantship I received that covers my full tuition, my mother will be paying the deficit.. ( She didn't even allow me to continue). She cut in.. Consular : Do you have the bank statements to show for the available funds? Me : yes, I do... Then I gave her the statements. Consular: The sum of $ dollars was deposited last week Me: I said yes, in addition to the money that was previously in the account... Consular: so that makes it $? Me : Yes, in addition to my mother's salary bank account in Naira bank statement and her pounds bank statement. Consular : What does your Mother do? Me: My mother is a medical radiographer at **** where she has been working for 17 years now, and currently holds the position of the manager of the radiography department.
She took few minutes typing, she withheld my international passport ,served me the white slip on directions to pick my passport...
She finally approvedy Visa. The I said God bless you Ma. |

Simplyleo: Based on the population of Nigeria, the size of the Nigerian Army and the ongoing insurgency across the country, that is grossly insufficient by any standard. Nigeria is indeed poor, forget the hype. The dominant source of national income is crude oil, nothing else.
Oil alone cannot sustain this country with a population hovering around 200m. Any idiot can do the simple arithmetic and tell me what every soul is entitled to from the gross earning.
Nigeria's annual budget is still less than 15 trillion, pls what will that amount do for over 200m people? Infact, let's assume 15t is to be shared physically, that is around 75k per head per annum.
US with a population of about 250m has annual budget in the excess of $2 trillion.
No one should quote me because I don't respond to bunkum from illiterates. You don't know what you're saying! U.S population is 328.2 million! More so, your assessment is grossly not in touch with the reality in Nigeria, considering that there's much corruption in the Nigerian army. Even our soldiers are saying it; government officials are aware as well. So, coming online to defend corruption is unacceptable. Most of the 1trillion Naira must have been embezzled, mismanaged, and wasted on things that cannot help the Nigerian security agency win the war on terror. In addition, part of the money spent on weapons that are snatched by Boko Haram also make winning the war hard. If that money has been well used, there'd have been significant improvement. Stop supporting corrupt NA |

REQUESTING FOR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT:If you can't find a suitable date and you need to request for emergency appointment, the follow steps must be followed for your request to be approved. You can only request for emergency appointment within 60 days to your program start date. Your program start date is written on your I-20. Check it and know what date it is. 1, Pay your visa fee at GTB. Login to the CGI site here: https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/?country=NigeriaFill in your details and put the reference number on your visa fee receipt. Proceed and book any appointment date you see on the site, even if it is December 2021 or 2022. Just book. If you book this date and you are not within the 60 days of your program start date, relax and check your CGI profile every day in case earlier and suitable dates are released. However, if no suitable dates and you are within the 60-day period, proceed and click request for emergency on your dashboard. 2. Once you book, the option for "emergency appointment" will show on the left pane menu. Note this. Click on the emergency appointment, which will take you to another page with form to fill. Pick a tentative travel date (date you wish to arrive the US). 3. You must have paid your SEVIS fee and have the PDF confirmation receipt. You must have a scanned copy of your I-20. 4. In the first section of the form, click academic or student. Then compose a short message as to why you need emergency appointment. State your program start date as on I-20 in the message you compose. Indicate the tentative traveling plan you filled in your ds160. 5. Attach your I-20 and SEVIS. Then submit. If approved, you will be notified through email to go and pick an earlier date on your CGI profile. If refused, you're on your own! Note that if your emergency appointment was approved and you are notified but you did not go to your profile to pick the dates released for you in time, the date can become unavailable. So it is important to act timely. I take the pain and time to write this because I don't want anybody here to contact me on how to do it. Now, you have the step-by-step information. All the best! |

drjustice17: I'm going for masters in Public health, in US and my sponsor is via my LGA. Through scholarship, It covers tuition fees, housing, books and monthly stipends. What documents do I need to present to Embassy . thanks Ask the local government to provide a sponsor letter, written that they will pay the deficit and that you will not become a public burden. You should also get a bank statement from the local government as this is the preferred sponsor document the U.S embassy like to see. However, with the assistantship, if you prepare for your interview very well, your sponsor statement might not be checked---based on experiences on and off here. But make sure you get a statement from the LGA and provide a genuine reason why they are paying the deficit. All the best. |

Amat04: For clarity please,
My start date is in August, and I was able to schedule an appointment for Ocotober.
Should I expedite now (because I'm hoping to fix my interview date for June ending, or I have to wait till that June ending to expedite?
Kindly do justice to this.
Thanks! You cannot request for emergency appointment now, or it will be denied and you will be forced to wait for earlier dates when they release them. Emergency appointment can only be approved if it is requested within 60 days of your program start date. That is, if your program is starting on August 20th, for example, you can only request for emergency from June 19th. It must be within 60 days of program start date--as stated on your i-20. You must have paid your SEVIS as well. If you can't find any date at the moment, wait for new dates to be released. If new dates did not show and you're within 60 days to your program start date, then you can request for emergency appointment. |

Hope it will not be a problem for me Provided your sponsor name is not written on the I-20, sure, you can use the new sponsor. If sponsor name is written on the I-20, I advise you to send the new sponsor statement to the school and ask that sponsor be changed to the new one and new i-20 issued. This is based on what I know. All the best! |

ON EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT REQUEST.Please do not request for emergency appointment if you were unable to get suitable date for your program start date. The U.S embassy will not approve expedient request that is outside the stated 60-days to program start date. According to the U.S website, emergency appointment will only be approved if requested within the 60 days of your course/program start date as stated on your i-20. In addition, you must have paid your SEVIS fee, schedule any available date and start your DSFORM if you are requesting within the given period. I am sharing this as some students are denied emergency request. Don't waste the chances to get a better date. It is not the time to request for emergency. Relax. More dates will be released for Lagos Consulate and Abuja embassy. Keep checking your CGI account, and if you see new dates, screenshot it and post on this thread so that others can benefit. Do not pay any agent to look for date for you; new dates will be released and you will be able to book by yourself. A side note: Remember the rule for a successful interview. Be confident, speak up and be heard and make sure you flow. Create no unnecessary story in your response to the consular questions. Be on point, straightforward, maintain eyes contact. Also, listen carefully when the VO is about to ask you a question. You may need to lean towards the tiny speaker on the right side of the counter window. F-1 INTERVIEW DOCUMENT CHECKLISTMake sure you have all the basic and required documents with you 1, SEVIS fee payment confirmation receipt 2, GTB visa fee receipt 3, I-20 (signed) 4, DS-160 confirmation printout showing your passport photograph as uploaded. 5, VERY IMPORTANT: Interview Appointment Confirmation printout showing the same DS-160 ID Number on your DS160 Confirmation (If you mix this number up, you will not be interviewed, and you will have to fill a new dsform and potentially book for another appointment). 6, 1-2 passport photograph of the same you uploaded online on your DS160 application. 7, Scholarship letter or funding appointment letter (if there’s any). 8, Sponsor official bank statement, signed and stamped, showing more than the total cost of attendance in Naira or in USD or other currency available. All the best for fall 2021 hopefuls. |

Malone122: hello to you once again sir Quick question please If a visa interview date is booked already and one requests for an emergency date and it’s denied Would he lose his initial booked date ? No, the initial date will remain and you can prepare for interview for it. Emergency appointment is only approved if you request it when your program is starting within the next 60 days. So if you asked for emergency and it was denied, it is because you requested for it early. |

Ikjosh04: Good day all, I'm actually depressed cause I think the choices I've made for the past 1 year are not yielding the results they're meant to which ordinarily is beyond my control.
I'm a 2019 chemical engineering graduate and finished nysc Feb 2021.
I started my admission and visa application to study Msc Engineering Management in Australia during my nysc.
I've spent over $15k for my tution deposit and health insurance, visa granted and I was supposed to resume my Msc Feb 2021(few days after nysc) pop.
I planned everything this way so I won't be in this kind of situation I find myself presently.
Australia boarder has been closed for more than a year now, so I had to defer my admission to July intake but with all the news and happenings in Australia, that country is so indecisive and not looking to open her boarders any time.
Her health minister and ScottMo has been forecasting Feb 2022 is the best time to open Australia boarder and honestly, everything is just pissing me off about that country at the moment.
Please I'll like the Elder's in the house @fairheart and others to guide me.
I want to know if I can get full/partial funding to study Msc Engineering Management or Business Analytics in any USA university. I have a flair for professional business inclined courses and not academic research courses.
If it's possible, I'll like to know the GRE, PTE and any other exam pass mark score I need to get to enable me get the funding with list of universities that might be offering funding for the courses I listed above.
I want to put things in order and apply for my visa for the early next year intake.
Meanwhile, I'll defer my admission for July 2021 to Feb 2022 if the Australia boarder is still closed for international students and as soon as I get funding in any Usa university, I'll request for my tution fee back from my Australia uni though my Indian friends have been complaining Australia uni are refusing or delaying to refund.
Also, I'll like to know the best path way for international students to get residency and citizenship in the USA after completing a postgraduate program from your experience and knowledge.
N.b., I'll take time to go through the thread to learn from others. The issue is outside your control. Relax. Do not leave what you started and successfully finish because of minor obstacle, which is outside your control at the moment. Take your time to learn something related to your program of study while you wait for Australia to open its border. Australia will open its border and your visa will be extended if required and necessary. It is better to go to Australia than to the U.S, as there's no easy path to residency in the U.S except you marry a U.S citizen and get a competitive H1B. There is no easy path at all. But if you want this, then you can consider it, but I advise you against making this decision now. It is easier to become a resident in Australia than in the U.S. To Dos. 1. Communicates to the school what is happening concerning border closure and let them know you cannot come in now, that since the border is closed you will need to defer and come in later. 2. Consider what you can do to improve yourself while the border remain closed. The delay is a huge opportunity you should explore to prepare for what lies ahead. Read more, explore courses you are likely going to study in Australia, etc. 3. Learn to be patient, because sometimes life require it; and sometimes, it is good for our journey. Please be patient and stop bothering and frustrating yourself. 4. Consider writing to the Australian embassy and communicate your concern to them. I am sure they will likely respond and give you some form of assurance or support you may need. The opportunity you have right now is not available to several other people somewhere out there. Please keep calm and use the wait to improve yourself. I am confident that Australia will not wait till 2022 before its border is open to the world. I project that the border will open before October or December. Keep good faith and enjoy your waiting period. This is my advise for you. If you have more question, you can ask. |

She opened up to me that she was introduced to sex at 8years old by one neighbor uncle , she told me how the uncle take her to his room and ask her to play with his Prick and sometimes would make her suck it ,she claim she couldn't tell her mom because she will beat her mercilessly
She said she officially started having sex at 10 ,she disclosed that she had done 4 abortions so far although the abortions were for the same guy . mind you she is just 24 years old
She claimed she's telling me all this because she loves me and wants to be honest with me .
But hearing all that I was weak.. this babe is from a wealthy family , she travels to yankee like someone going to a neighboring state plus she is an MSC Holder , unknown to her I have decided that I would marry her because she's educated and wealthy family is like a bonus but now she actually disgust me and I wish she didn't tell me all that ..

GeneralPula: The saying should be...Get yourself a good girl, then bring out her wild side..
Every human has their wild side but majority don’t display it out - except for hoes and prostitute and they simply do that cuz they want to market what they sellin..
Just get yourself a good girl and turn her to your naughty girl...For a guy to be able to do this, he himself must be naughty&wild.. I will try Thanks |

BaeMercy: A woman who is bad for one not for the street I think you mean, a woman who is sexually romantic but will ONLY be like this for the man in her life. She's down to earth, sexually exploratory, standing by the man and is principled in her approach to relationship. Thanks. |

BaeMercy: Men love civilised ladies Let's put it that way, OK?
Men don't like bad girls, men like naughty girls No man will see a bad woman and marry her unless he wants to ruin his life
People do say bad girls marry faster than good girls Ask why do marriages don't last this days like those days? because the bad girls are the ones who marry faster You can't turn a bitch to a wife A bad girl is there for the gain and when you can't provide anymore she goes back to the street then you men come online to cry that women are wicked you better open your eyes and marry a naughty smart woman Don't because of sex ruin your life Ones an Olosho never retire Marry such women, travel your mind won't be at rest because na sex dey run that kind of women Be Wise! You are sensible and right. Sounds like a thoughtful lady. Can you clarify on the bold line? Can you define this type of a woman? What is she like? How do you identify one? I am willing to learn |

Miscellaneous: A nigerian company has agreed to pay the deficit in my i20. Will this pass the embassy? It can pass. But questions like these might be asked: What is your relationship with this company? Why is it paying the deficit? How long have you been working there? From shared experience of applicants on and off this thread, it seems the consular want to be sure there's established relationship with you and the company and that you have been with them for a while. Just last week, a student used his company statement of account and was bounced. He told me the consular asked why is the company sponsoring him? What is his position, and how long has he been working with the company. He said he has been there as a IT engineer for 1 year. That ends it; he was refused. If your deficit is low, you will likely get your visa. Make sure you have letter stating the reason you qualify to be sponsored, and what the company aim to get from that. Tailor your response to what will this degree do for you and what is your plan after graduation around you and the company. I want to believe a company will not sponsor you except there's a plan to return to keep working there after graduation. All the best. |

Gokoyer1401: hi house, can you kindly give ideas about Universities/states where a Nigerian can apply to with HND certificate? Pls guys reply me. @justwisee @NigPatriot @Predstan @Malone122 @meritdee @fairheart @bukkymbo Almost every University in the U.S will accept you with HND. To be able to get into virtually all universities, evaluate your academic transcript with WES and ECE. This will give you access to every potential universities. OND +HND is not inferior to a single BSC. You can apply to any school students with BSC can apply to. All the best! |

Lightning360: Which program are you going for, which session are you Targeting? Have you received mails from various school by now, or you didn't sign up for the ETS somewhat Bio section....
Try these schools....... But am not certain if any of them is Reg flag. 1 Bentley 2 NYU 3 Northeastern U
These are Sch I received their mail inviting me to apply for their program...... but I don't know if they offer funding.....
So Pls gurus in the house, how do you guys see this schools, moreover my GRE score is 300. Thinking on Rewriting.... UG 3.6/4.0 unofficial wes. No publications... Only UG project.. No TOEfl yet... Little grad internship. Am considering MS/PhD in Industrial Engineering...
Also am looking forward to Fall 2022... So guys any input will be highly appreciated. Cc lagosismyhome, Time2win, Twoods, Walspring, fairheart, bigfrancis21.....anyone While you can take the GRE test again, I have seen students with less score admitted with funding for MS and PhD. Considering the term you wish to apply, you have enough time to explore schools that will offer you assistantship--either with your current GPA and GRE score or better score. Do the school search first as that will help you determine what if your profile is fit. Once you have a list of potential schools, for example, 10 universities in states you like their weather, etc, you can take it from there. All the best! |

Tulacious123: Good evening Mr fairheart . I got admitted into Georgia State University ,(MSc Public Policy) for fall 2021 session. I am currently applying for a fellowship application which comes with lots of benefits. They requested for a writing sample alongside other documents. What I don’t understand is if it’s a fellowship application or a past research work. Writing sample is anything you have written during undergraduate coursework. Essays, papers, research work, etc. If you don't have any of these, select a topic of interest and that you know you know its core and write something nice about it. Also, look at the fellowship application requirements as guide to what you're to submit. |

presiade: I meant every single word I typed in my initial post. It's a case of a typical Nigerian denying the things they do in the closet-- hypocrisy. I have proofs. Just cover yourself and don't say any further on this... Else, you will be surprised. You know yourself. I HAVE NEVER ASKED ANYONE TO PAY ME TO LOOK FOR INTERVIEW DATE FOR THEM! Please, can you tell me when I told you to pay me to look for interview date for you? Because I don't even know how these agents manage to get dates for potential visa applicants when others are complaining they can't see the date. If you talk about me referring you to someone who one or two students have told have me had helped them to get a date, I would not doubt you as some of my students have used outside help to get their interview dates even before they reached out to me for one help or the other. I don't book date for people and I have never been paid to book a date for anyone, to the best if my knowledge. Additionally, If you say I ask my students to pay me for my time to prepare them for interview when I am busy and they needed assistance in tailoring their response to interview questions, mock, evaluating their application, writing SOP, , or seeking professional guidance for better admission and funding, yes I would clearly agree. And I never hide that; I made it known to the students when they come to my DM during busy hours that my time is managed and has price tag if I am asking for more than I have done on this forum. And I have done a lot to several students off and on Nairaland, for free. The way you frame your initial post, you made it seem like I have scammed you or heard that I scammed someone here. When? Anyone who alleged that I personally ask them to pay me to look for date for them, is lying against my benevolent gesture to see students get their visas and study in the U.S. I don't book interview date for people. I don't work at the embassy, so how on earth would I ask people to pay me to get them an invisible interview date? If we have exchanged messages in the past and you were offended, state my offense to me or send me a message to clear myself...it is understandable. Mentioning my moniker as though I have scammed you, when in fact I cannot remember interacting with you, is sad. Thank you |
