I applied to 4 schools. So far, 3 rejections and 1 pending decision. Fingers crossed...

3 rejection sounds bad. What is your academic profile like? How is your SOP and recommendation?
If you do 4 schools and 3 rejects, then you need to look at what has caused the rejections. Did you apply to tier 1 universities?

4 has given me admission, but challenge is funding, i am waiting for the one that will give me full funding or very little deficit.

Wow, 9 and still doing more? That is fantastic! Are you a graduate student?
I will manage to create time this evening to write about ways to approach funding. It seems that is where most students are having challenge.

So are you implying that the funding award letter must match exactly what is on the I-20? Even if both figures are higher than the total cost of attendance.

Not necessarily, but do not carry conflicting documents to the embassy. Your assistantship offer letter should explain what you're offered. That is the standard for every university in the U.S. So if you are offered 38K and that is what is documented on the letter, the figure on the I-20 should be documented accordingly. If the award on the i-20 is higher than cost of attendance, it is cool. Just make sure your letter back it up.

You can also tell the person in charge of i-20 issuance to use the remark section to explain the difference. Just to be safe. I have seen cases where VO refused applicants due to inability to understand how the funding was documented on the i-20 and the award letter. Ask your school about the difference and you'll be fine.

I applied to i Global university
Have been given admission and my form as been sent to me.
Booking a date is the problem because I’m using an agent
School resume April 5
The agent said he can’t book a date for me because i already have a profile with us embassy.
I tried visit visa in 2018 but i was denied
He said he as forward my details to the embassy since febuary 15 we have not hear anything from them.
Is their an issue or make i just chill he said they will get back to me

Your agent is lying. I doubt if both of you know what you're doing!
Share your profile, such as age, course, school name, program level (undergraduate or graduate) and other information, if you want to be helped.
I strongly feel you are about to waste some money and get rejected at the embassy again. Share those info and I will be able to guide you. But whatever you do, do not apply for any visa until you clearly know what you are doing!

Contact your school to explain.
I advise you to contact them to explain why there's difference. Last Spring, about 3 applicants were refused because of such difference on i-20 and funding letter. If they can't correct, ask about the difference and print the email along when you're going for your interview.

The students later got their visas after they replied. It is just important to avoid story. Sometimes, the VO want to see the assistantship award letter, then compare with what is on the i-20.

Hisexcellency20:
Good evening all,

Please, I have a concern. Got a PhD with funding. The COA is $38k. When I received my I-20, assistantship was given as $38k. But, my department is writing $31k for assistantship in the letter of Sponsorship.

Please, how do I rectify this?

Can I use the two docs with different figures for Visa Application? Will it be a problem?

Please, help me out here.
@fairheart and other gurus in the house, I need your assistance on what to do.

NB. I have contacted my dept. But, I don't really understand what they are saying.

Please Mr @fairheart and all experienced NL,
I need to know if a married person going for study with a fully funded PhD scholarship(full tuition waiver + research assistantsip stipends) can be given visa to go with the spouse and kids together? Do we need to show proof of funds(POF) for the family? How much for a family of 5(parents and 3 kids)?

or is it better for the person to go alone first while the dependants(spouse and kids) joins later? Like how many months later please? And its POF also applicable in this instance as well?

Thank you all.

You can apply with your family, and of course, you must show proof of funds for their living expenses if the funding doesn't cover for it.
From experience, I cannot say exactly how the interview will go as the outcome will largely depends on the type of consular you meet. Questions will be asked and constructive answers must be prepared. Is the primary applicants the wife or husband? If wife, then why is the hubby leaving his job to stay in the US? If it's the husband, it is easy to understand why the wife wants to go with the husbands and the 3 kids.

In November 2020, an applicant that I assisted with the interview went was given her visa with 3 kids, without hubby in the picture. The reason was that she cannot imagine leaving behind her kids for 4-5 years, while husband is very busy with his job and may visit during holidays. I have no idea if the plan is to bring in the hubby later. Then that same month, a lady from this thread, without her two kids and husband, applied alone, same Phd. She didn't even have funding on the i-20, yet visa was approved.

You can try with the entire family, or plan to try alone. Who is the primary applicant?

Hello House,

I already have an interview date in March at the US embassy in Abuja. I just found out that the date has to be within 120 days of resumption.
My question is how do I reschedule to another date and this time choose the embassy in Lagos without paying another VISA fee ?

To change your interview location on your CGI, you must cancel your current appointment. Once you do that, proceed as if you're booking a new appointment, then click the preferred location when you you're asked to select. Calendar for available date for that location will show. You will not need to pay another visa fee to do this.

Just imagine this sorry eyesore. How will these poor little children feel about their world? Just check out the calibre of arms and ammunition in the hands of these terrorists.

These are the kinds of people Shiek Gumi and AGF-Malami are advocating amnesty for? Tinubu is saying "where are the cows"? And Femi Adeshina said-"give up your lands" or perish & still loose them to herdsmen terrorists? Time to go our separate ways.Enough is enough.

Obadiah Mailafia, Lt.Gen.TY Danjuma(rtd), Gen.Obj(rtd),
Bishop Kukah, Nnamdi Kanu, late Majors Gideon Orkar/
Chukwuma Nzeogwu all saw this and cried out, but the government said no.They are raising false alarm. No who has told the truth?

The bold line sparked deep and strong thoughts in me. How will these poor little children feel about their world? Will they trust project humanity? Will they grow up to keep peace, or they will live to hurt in return for atrocities done to them? The humanity in this part of the world is failing. Lord help us that knows to help the weak. Amen! Thank you for your thought-provoking comment.

Sorry about the denial. The VO probably does not trust that he will return to the country. He is the home tie you have, and with him coming over too, VO thinks there's no sufficient home time.
What kinda job does he do?
how long has he been doing the job?
how long did he fill on the ds160 as intended duration of stay?
who was suppose to sponsor his trip?

Lot of things VO may have seen in the ds160 that won't make him/her ask many questions during interview. Answers to these questions may help guide on way forward.

He should reapply. Refusal is not strange and doesn't mean he won't get it again.
He should reapply.

Works in a bank for 10 years now.
He intended to come over for a month. That"s what he filled in the ds160.

How can we show home ties for him. He went with documents showing proof of Job and even lands. But couldn't even present it. We are just looking for what to do better next time.

A month visit to the US? The current US embassy I know doesn't frowns when you say you're visiting for that long. Although depends on the VO, maximum of 3 weeks is enough.

Good evening Nairalanders, so I got this GA idea recently and searched on here (sure information bank) and boom, it’s been going on for God knows when.
First off, I have HND (3.05/4.00) and this guy that wants to help me is already in US as a GA and said he will charge me $780 for everything. Lol, while I don’t have that much amount, Omo I’m very skeptical because a lot of questions I asked weren’t cleared well. I know it’s 10 schools in 100 that accept straight masters from HND holders. Also, I writing a professional exam like GRE, TOFEL etal are one the main requirement. He said he will run it, i don't know how people of God. So i have come to seek knowledge from the elders. Is it possible i apply straight masters with hnd? While there are English test waivers, arr there really ways you can bypass this? I no want illegal stuff o.

Kindly advice pleace

You can apply with your HND. English test can be waived, but depends on the school you pick. You can do your application by yourself if you can go through the process.

Although everyone is responsible for whatever actions they take, society's inclinations and peer pressure could equally be a reason.
When all these musicians sing about is "she carry front, she carry back" and 75-80% of women don't have the 'perfect' hourglass shape, what do you expect?

It is the duty of every educated and enlightened young women out there to protect their mind and sanity. When you talk about social pressure, who are the people engineering this pressure? Men? Hello no! The pressure to look attractive at the expensive of feminine happiness, are being engineered by same fellow women, mostly from wealthy background. Rich people do so much in destroying social structure than they do to sustain it. If all your friends are doing Yahoo Yahoo, will you blame them for joining? You are responsible! Ladies should fight off peer pressure and be themselves. Some of them are not even moved by all these plastic make up they use morning and night to impress nobody! Then and now, I meet ladies that maintain their natural beauty, not disturbed by what useless society dictates. Social pressure only gets to us when we let it excites us. You're responsible for shunning pressures that are not good for you short and long term.

Hello guys,

Please I need help @fairheart and co
My interview was meant to be in March 2020 but Covid-19 stopped me. I got new I-20.

Question; Can I still use the DS160 application payment to go for my interview since it's more than one year now?

I believe there is sevis extension for you. You will not need to pay another sevis payment to get your visa. The same may apply to your visa fee.
I know students who were approved despite expired sevis fee.

Gov. Ganduje's analysis of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is logically sound. You may not agree with him but that's a sound argument he put up there.

I must also commend him for being rational and frank by saying that APC zoning principle should be followed, which makes it the turn of South to have a go at the presidency in 2023.

Yes, the memory of Ganduje stuffing dollars and smiling like a child who got a new toy continues to haunt our judgement of him but it should not be forgotten that he is a University of Ibadan PhD holder, that is earned with research work and not honorary.

I pity the type of children you'd raise and the men they would become. If you see a liar but calling him a rational thinker, I am sorry, you're a stupid person. The Thief in Governor's skin did not want any opposition or criticism; he wanted to do as he want without being checked. Sanusi was a man of the people and someone that is enlightened, 100 years ahead Ganduje. The latter is of darkness, the former, light. The governor hate checks and truth. Sadly, you're not different! In fact, you'd do worse if you were in his shoe!

Focus on states in the South, where living expenses are affordable. Then if you have the energy to explore the schools there, you can check states in the Midwest.

Bro Kharleed assuming you Sufficiently satisfy (2) & (3) only , could you be saved from (1)?
Item 1 can be proved by your choice of words during the interview. Although the VOs are not predictable, as sometimes they can use your composure to assess your credibility for the visa. Yet, how you talk about your professional goal, such as what you plan to do after graduation, can be used to prove you have strong home times. I have seen applicants whose entire family are in the U.S and she was still given the visa with her babe, on first appearance. I have to say that what you say and how you say it during the interview matters a lot. You will be assessed by your words first, then your academic profile, such as school, cost of attendance, sponsorship and other things.

I advise you to work carefully on your response to potential interview questions. What is your plan after graduation? How does this course you pick related to this? How will the knowledge help you build this career plan? From experience, 90% of applicants who took their time to detail answers to these questions are found credible and approved, most times first and second appearance (of course, academic profile as mentioned above add weight to chances of approval as well). All the best! Except you need personalized assistance, ask other questions you may have on this thread.

Greetings to you all please I want to make inquiries on sites I can use to look for nice affordable schools for a bachelors program
Please I would really appreciate if I can get help with this

Starts with Google. You must learn the skill of using available tool for personal research while you're still in Nigeria. Use the following search string for the schools you want:

1. Affordable Universities and Colleges in the U.S for Computer Science
2. U.S Universities with Scholarship for computer Science
3. U.S schools without SAT for computer science.

The more creative you are, the better and faster for result.
Make sure you select the schools you want based on your academic profile and sponsor's financial budget.

Thanks for your input, I'm always learning from this board. please can you post schools that are blacklisted. so we can avoid those schools.
I'm applying to New jersey university, kean university, Monroe college, Stratford uni and Bowie state university. Any red flags in those?

There is nothing like blacklisted schools. If you say schools with weak profile, I would say there are. Every accredited school in the US that issue i-20 will get you a visa if the applicants do their home work. There is nothing like red flag schools; only low ranking schools. And there have been students who receive visas with their admission.

Almost every school in the U.S gives funding. Whether you get funding with your admission is determined by the course, department, time you apply, and how strong your applicant is.

and you too man! I just hope that this upcoming fall semester will find us joy, I'm preparing to go for my second interview in fall semester hopefully things goes well.
Yes, keep your hope alive.
Make sure your DSFORM information is the same, except where something has changed since your last refusal.
In the box where you are asked to explain why you're refused, give a detailed explanation of what you thought was the reason for the refusal. With inflow of many applicants with past refusal in my inbox, I have experimented the idea of giving genuine explanation in that box. Don't write "under section 214b"; instead, explain what you think caused the refusal and state that you are a credible student. As testimony, I instructed 3 applicants with past refusals to try this method (the lady with 3 refusal I mentioned before, a guy who was refused 9 times (Yes, refused 9 times and got it 10th attempt in January), and another lady, and it worked. The VO always look at what you fill in that box).
Prepare for the interview! All the best!
