Choicexx:

So fairheart has said it all. But if application fee would be a problem why not package your documents well and reach prof, program directors etc of schools that meet your needs so as to apply to as few as you can or even one school you are sure will admit you and probably fund you.
Senior fairheart nobi so?

Lols. Well, I believe it is not a good idea to depend on school that will waive application fees. While application waiver doesn't influence admission decision, one should plan to do a school that admission and funding is sure from, and pay the fee. It is part of the sacrifice.
So Choicexx, for applicants who can't afford to apply to several schools due to shortage of fund, there is always one or two schools the applicant is academically fit to apply to that will give admission and even funding. It is always worth it to have such school on the list. If you don't get a school with application fee waiver, you can just struggle to raise application fee for the sure school.
Thank you

Looks like those for the spring semester have all had their interviews. For those planning on resuming for Fall 2021, have you guys started thinking of the visa process?

People are still going for spring, those very small in number and most likely with extension letter. A lady from this thread got her visa yesterday at 4th attempt at the U.S embassy, Abuja. There are is another guy from here planning for interview next week.
For fall 2021, I believe applicants can start going to the embassy from late April, that is in roughly 3 months from now.

For those who are going for interview for fall, please read thread 15, at least from October 2020. Learn from others experience so that you can avoid setbacks and unnecessary refusal.

When I have time, I will post a list of to-dos for fall 2021 prospects.
If you have questions, don't hold back; ask! There are always people on this thread that will answer.
All the best guys!

I want to know about the application fee waiver, and how to request for it
Check the school admission page. If there is a waiver for the fall 2021 application year, they will indicate there. Otherwise, send a message to the admission office.

Okay now let me shock you, for every church, a witch or witches are assigned to the church to pull the church down, same with occult men and women. You dont know what is going in. The devil is very tricky.

Witches and occultic people go to churches too, they go to crusades too to destroy the crusade.
In your imagination! How sad has Africans turn God's power to mere play. Mere people destroying crusade? The crusade must have been organised with the imagination of men. If the crusade is by God, no power on earth can stop the purpose for which it has been organised.

You dont understand..this is beyond prayer warrior. He has dedicated years of his life to church activities. He goes for MFM Prayer city camp and stays there for months. He wakes us up 5 am to do our morning devotional. Im just beyond confused whats going on here really.

You are still a child and not a man enough. You saw something as shocking as you described and you could not ask your Dad to explain what it is? As an educated youth, you're to be curious and desire to know. Ask questions so that you'd know. It is possible he keeps the bat for a reason. Ask him about it and stop making assumptions that your Dad is not of God. Do your findings because you start thinking your Dad is an occult or whatever you have started thinking he is. He is your father and if he loves you, he will explain and tell you the purpose for which he keeps a live bat in his wardrobe. If after you have to ask questions and you're convinced it's not from God, then it is fine. Do not disrespect him or dishonour him or call him evil, or you will be damned. Christ says, search and you shall find; He didn't say see and run away from home.

Guys , please how long does administrative processing take? Though I wasnt told my application would be on AP but it's been 6working days and passport is yet to arrive and my school resumed yesterday.
Please, is there anything I can do?
If it is 6 days, then it should turn Issued today or tomorrow.
If you can't get an extension, then you must defer to fall 2021 and get a new i-20 and a letter that will allow you to resume.
Don't worry.

Can I buy my ticket before doing the test? What if the test is yet to be processed as at when I am ready to board? Or do I wait till i get the result before buying tickets?
Buy your ticket, then take your covid test within two days of your departure. That way, the rest will be out. Also, there will be new rules regarding test when Biden takes over. So, make sure you take the test at the appropriate time to avoid delay. Buy your ticket ahead so that you can get a fair price.

As a youth, cultism is not for you. You can be better than you are and you can enjoy freedom, peace and protection in God if you surrender to Him as your Creator.

You need to stop justifying your inability to create time for your boyfriend (if your story is real).
There are doctors that have time. You don't spend the 24 hours X 7 in the hospital you work.
There are surgeons who go on a date, travel for fun, go on monthly dates, etc. I have never seen a profession that doesn't have a room for days off for its asset: the people, employees, of you are one.

Wow!! Nairalanders can never be happy for other people, can they?!

Why would they? When you and your boyfriend wanted to trend and wanted an immatured love story read (this relationship is not matured yet, which is why your boyfriend tainted complains about you with praise, i.e I like her so much for her class and career but she is too busy to create time for me and I had to lodge in 3 different hotels before I could see her. No man is ever happy experiencing this. I have flown to Abuja to see a lady before; she moved her flight going to Europe from Abuja to Lagos, just so she could see me too (costing over $200)). No relationship bears fruits when there's no balance and reciprocated efforts from the two persons in it. According to your love story, your high-value lady is not doing that right now. smiley

I would expect him to create this thread if he has lessons to share with others who might find themselves in a relationship with busy young men or women. The only thing he did was talk about you and the discomfort he is enduring for being in a relationship with a busy doctor. If you want people to stay out of your business (your relationship, which is a critical part of your life), you must learn to keep it private.

Additionally, the two of you should get to work, see where to amend and then balance work with life and build something greater than what we are currently sensing. When you get to the real work of removing clutters from your life, work and create time for life and love, you guys can come back to tell us how to make it work for busy men out there. For now, the two of you should get to work on solidifying this relationship. People cannot destroy what they don't know. Keep it private and it won't matter if Nairalanders are happy for you and your boyfriend or not. It is that simple.

REMEMBER:
remove clutters from your life so that you can give time to love. Without love, life cannot be enriched or lived well. I wish you two the best!

Trump called Nigeria a shithole country... But I know even in my shithole country this won't happen
Do you really think it can't happen? What is the difference between sitting on the Speaker's chair and stealing the mace from the National Assembly?
What happened in the US was a sign of something much bigger: a political system that is no longer valued by the younger generation and those who are disaffected by their current political system. In other words, loss of political philosophy values that American founding fathers enshrined in US politics.

For Nigeria, if care is not taken a time will come when State and Federal houses will be occupied like this. Army, police, navy, guns and bullet would fail to stop it. If what happened in the US could happen, it can happen here.

For those who dislike epistles, let me go straight to the point.

APPROVAL TRANSCRIPT

Status: Approved
School: Johnson C. Smith University
Scholarship: $18k(Deficit of $9384)
Sponsor: Uncle
Program: Bachelor of Science in Biology
Interviewed by a Black Male American VO for about 4 minutes tops
Dropping out from a Nigerian University and yeah, I indicated it in my DS-160

VO:
Pass me your I-20 and passport
ME: *passes them*
(I decided to drop my files so that I could gesticulate well with my hands)
VO: How did you decide to go to this school?
ME: I heard about the school from my advisors at the EducationUSA here at the embassy ( points at the building with my hands). They helped streamline my wants and profile with the schools where I would fit it in.( I expected something like 'How did you hear about this school?' so I was mostly rambling until I had nothing to say again)
VO: Tell me about your educational background
I graduated from high school as the salutatorian, senior prefect, JETS club financial secretary, lead mobilizer of my school's rescue team( Again, my mind was urging me to say something else but I wasn't sure of how best to answer this question as it wasn't phrased the way I understand but I just wanted to sell myself at every given chance. Part of my educational background would also be the time I’ve spent in a Nigerian university already but I didn’t stress it since it was already in my DS-160)
VO: what will you do with this degree?
I intend to work at the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research as a Biomedical Scientist and this degree will help serve as a stepping stone to that dream. Nigeria's public health sector is in a deplorable state and lives are being lost needlessly so I'd like to help change that.
VO: Who will be paying for this?
ME: My uncle
VO: What does he do?
ME: He works at Bleep in the USA
(Fairheart had already emphasized that I should first highlight my scholarship when answering this question but I was so tensed that I forgot)
He kept typing and that was when Fairheart's words came to my head. So after about a minute or so of typing, I quickly added that I have a scholarship too
He didn’t even look up, he only said ‘hmm’( he had obviously made his decision already).
VO: What's the duration of this course?
Me: 4 years

Before I knew it, he just slid my I-20 back to me with a white paper and my passport ended up in a basket. I won't lie, it was unexpected, I was awaiting more questions so that I can show him what I'm made of. Grrrr! He had given two people before me green papers and I saw the way their faces changed so I didn't want no green paper. White is my favorite color cheesy cheesy cheesy, I love white!!! The funny thing is that I can’t remember any other thing he said after that. I don’t know if that is the famous deafness you guys talk about but I was discombobulated. I quickly picked up my I-20 and started wishing him all the good things that came to my head, lol. All his responses flew over my head and I ended up by telling him to have a beautiful day.

During my interview, I told him to repeat himself more than once because I couldn’t get what he was saying. Maybe it was because he denied the nice lady before me but he was kind enough to talk slowly. I also wasn’t as tense as I thought I’ll be but I was not as coherent as I would’ve liked. I talked really fast and I was quite surprised that he caught everything I say. In fact, the realization that I finally have my visa is still sinking in. I was approved on Monday, my passport was ready the next day and I picked it up yesterday.

There was also one thing I saw, while the VO was typing, the computer behind him was open to one site, guess?... Nairaland! grin grin Lmao, I screamed (internally of course)

APPRECIATION DIARY

I first want to thank God without whom none of this would have been possible. He was the most important factor in this journey.

To Nairaland
Arguably the most impactful site in my life. I discovered Nairaland in 2016 after I had blown my first admission chance and started following this thread. I think I started from part 9 or so and I’ve enjoyed every bit of this journey. I’ve met people who have changed my life and I’ve made hopefully lifelong friendships.

To Northeastern
When I started contemplating rewriting the SAT in 2018 and came here to state it, he straight up offered to pay for me and he did. This was someone I didn’t know from Adam. He also went as far as drafting a list of schools for me. I eventually got to rewrite the SAT thanks to his generosity and had a 180 point increase in the space of a month. That SAT is taking me to the US. I don’t know what he saw in me but I hope to be able to reciprocate his kindness in the life of others one day. May you always find help and may life be kind to you at every turn.

To Fairheart,
The day before my interview, I had two consecutive mock sessions with him and it really went a long way in boosting my confidence. Months earlier, I had emailed him and he took his time to advice me. He also introduced me to a group of equally determined young students who also had a big role to play in my success story. I've bugged him severally for his input and he has never been tired of helping. May God bless you Sir

To Texrem, thank you for replying my pm, going through my transcript and helping me make it more concise and sensible. God bless you richly.

To Best201195, for replying my pm that faithful Sunday afternoon and for introducing me to an opportunity that has changed my life. Your help has made my journey much more easier and worthwhile.

To Fonoth who’s one of the kindest people I’ve ever met in this life, no kidding. She strove tirelessly and kept me informed of countless openings until one finally clicked. She was like an unofficial accountability partner who relentlessly pushed me. Without you, it wouldn’t have been possible

To CaptainMarvell who has been a fellow warrior in this battle, thank you for your immense help which is too numerous to name, May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks- J.R.R Tolkien

To Etherealbeing, thank you for that mock interview, you helped transform my transcript from a recital to a conversation.

To mummy Lagosismyhome, thank you for your tireless service. I could remember that she had a word of advice both times I came here seeking help.

To Legit215, thank you for compiling that transcript.

A million thanks to GboyegaD, BenNash and FreshStarz, thank you for your words during the times I was seeking help.

I'll end with this quote by Nelson Mandela, "There's no passion to be found in playing small and living a life that's less than that which you're capable of living". Far too many destinies have been changed by the Nigerian public education system due to her inhumane way of allocating admissions. Don't pursue a career you'll hate and don't build your life on a shaky foundation. I have many uncertainties and I feel really anxious because I'm taking a big leap but as Friedrich Nietzsche said, "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how"
PS: I'm accepting donations, give and it shall be given unto you embarassed wink
You should add writing to your hobby. It was your articulate and fine writing skill that glued my attention to your first long e-mail to me last year or so. I still remember that your choice of words and the things you said you want to achieve by going to the U.S, inspired me. You told your story so well, and I think this is a skill everyone should learn. We should be able to tell our unique story in a way that will make others see the goodness in us.
I actually didn't do as much as I would have done for a younger brother I cared about, but I am glad that the little I did was impactful.

I also love that you took out time to remember those who helped in your journey. This is the attitude of gratitude and it will take you far and make people always want to help you. As you grow in the U.S, keep nursing this attitude; you'd meet even empathic people that will be there when you need another human being to advance your goals.
I also thank Northeastern and Texrem and Aunty Lagosismyhome grin for their supports toward your success.
The seed to excel is in you and I hope you will study well and graduate at the top of your class. AMEN to your prayers for me and God bless you!

This is nice! Thanks for updating it. But let me add more items based on recent interviews I have read their approval news

Additional items you can go with:

11. Transcript (It could be WES or the copy from your school that you used for your application, but if you don't have access to a copy, it is cool).
12. Proof of employment, mostly ID Card.
13. Degree certificate you have.
14. Proof of sponsorship if being sponsored by an organisation
15. Leave letter (Although not required, but if your interview transcript tilts towards returning to the organisation you currently work after studies, then you better have a leave letter to support that claim. The applicant that got approved at third attempt this morning in Lagos was asked, including her work ID, sponsor letter (sponsored by her employer (though she has funding).

All the best guys!

Hello @fairheart, I just joined naira land because of this platform. All of your advice has been quite helpful, but my visa got denied on Nov 6th. I truly didn’t impress the VO cos, my chest got heavy as he asked the questions and all I could do was only answer with a word or a sentence. I studied hard for that interview, Buh I guess that wasn’t my time. I tried scheduling another emergency interview Buh got refused on the condition that if a person has been denied once, they can’t schedule another interview until after 6months.
Luckily for me, my fiancée was going through their website of recent and saw January 13 opened for interview, so he instantly called me to pay for my visa fee and now I’d be having another interview on the 13th of January. Please I need your help. I wouldn’t mind having a mock interview as well so as to prepare better and overcome my fear. Please I don’t really know how naira land works, especially knowing if Anyone has replied me or not. Probably I get a notification or something. Thanks in anticipation of your replies

Even those that had never send a penny to parents will come online raise ego.

Go and get good wife, Bible says ur wife is flesh of ur flesh, nobody can take care of others than himself.

None of these applies to me. I will still take care of my mother and I will do my best for my wife and family when I have the latter. She is comfortably living in my house and I am praying I have more money to do more for her. I say what I do and do what I say!

Having a girlfriend doesn't mean one's mother should be neglected. I am happily single and my mother is enjoying my support. This weekend, I am still going to send money to her and buy her gifts. You too, go and do the same for your Mum so that she can pray for you and heal your ignorance. Oya, take your phone and call her now.

Oga stop nonsense, your mother has husband. If her husband, ur Father refused to show utmost love for her so be it, the number 1 person a man must love most is wife, even much more than kids.

Think properly bf you post gibberish on faceless forum.

You sounded like a son that his mother didn't do enough for. I also hope you don't grow up to pursue a woman while you abandon your kids.
If you are hurting or your mother failed you while you were growing up, I pray that you get healed.
