Blackpearlxx:But what happens when mothers that nurtured and raise the sons are forgotten while girlfriends and wives are spoilt with every good thing in life? That is the angle the artist was talking from, I believe. But maybe you are right: if the sons were filled or nurtured with love, they would not forget their mothers simply because they found another woman. |

saaphiere: Pray that you stay long in your marriage, and the key to achieving this goal (if it truly matters to you) is to change your perspectives about certain things in life, including what to expect in a relationship. From the way you wield your words and opinions on Nairaland, pray that you are able to sustain your marriage long-term. And stop assuming you know what you don't know so that you can learn about things that will do your future good. I also advise that you surround yourself with good-natured and successful women and those who are vastly educated than you are. You need a lot of training to reform your views about life. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nazgul: She will not maintain it. She is a young woman and still learning about life and its phases and vicissitudes. Ladies like her will shift very fast when life changes and switch on its moment of difficulties. Just imagine a lady stylishly justifying cheating. Women cheat because they are not taken care of, yet this same girl will push feminism on men, that they are equal. Strong women that are not taken care of in their homes work hard and smart to get what they want or that their men should have provided, thereby showing to the husband that they are better than they have been treated. These are proud mothers that raised some of us. This a girl that will become a mother tomorrow coming online to spill nonsense for the sake of having an opinion. A man must take care of his mother! She nurtured him for the wife to find admirable and marry. Imagine if all mothers were miserable and didn't do their work and abandon their sons? Would any wife even have any husband to boast of, to show off, or to expect expensive items from? While our mothers have their husbands, they deserve our best! Their children should take care of them, except where the parents abandoned their children to suffer (even this doesn't justify neglecting our parents). So are wives to be taken care of. I imagine that a good woman will even support the husband to adequately take care of his mother. Unfortunately, the young ladies our society is breeding today are without empathy. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Jaytee116: Wait for the day you will hear US embassy Abuja denied 10 people in a row. This is not how the embassies work. The timing of your interview and the VO you meet and other factors determine how well you will do. The same Black guy that approved NoTimeZone today refused almost everyone he interviewed--at least 3 people I know from this thread. What I am saying is that it doesn't matter which embassy you go. But of course, Abuja rarely sees the crowd as you'd find in Lagos, but they refuse visas there too. In fact, sometimes, we see more approval in Lagos than Abuja. The key is to do your thing and pray to meet a nice VO. Where you are interviewed doesn't matter. 13 Likes |

cococandy:I think it is hard to tell how it will turn out. I think success does actually happen where we think failure is inevitable. What if this guy is true to his words and commit to this girl and they both make it? Remember, in every 1000 love/relationship story you read, there's always 5-10 unique ones that baffle our assumptions/perspective about things? Remember that there are still young men and women who found true love, whose souls glue and transcends every form of abnormalities we see in our society today? I think it is too early to judge him, to say that this girl would not have a place in his life in the next 10 years. Actually, what if she turns out to be his support, inspiration, an example of ideal woman, etc? Darling, true love happens, and I want to say I am proud that the lady is there and continue to be there for him. I will only pray: May God keeps these two together, and may the lordally never get full of himself that he forgets the woman that stays by his side during his dark days. I hope they marry and tell their children and the world their beautiful story. AMEN! 3 Likes |

placeofallure:Shows you're knowledgeable. I think the problem is selfishness and lack of empathy. If we are groomed with being selfless and can project others in our shoes, life would be easy, and I think relationships would mostly work out. I know selflessness and empathy breeds other qualities essential for a man and a woman to stick together and love through all seasons. Unfortunately, the opposite is what humanity has become. hairbyuj: HOW TO WRITE A STRONG SOP. Use Google to find samples to read, but don't copy another student SOP content. You are to create your own, which is why it is called Personal Statement. 1, The First paragraph should have a powerful opening. As a writer myself, the first impression matters when you're writing. If you open the SOP with shallow words, phrase or idea, you may disinterest the person assessing it from the beginning. Your first paragraph should wield strong words about your view concerning the program you want to study. There are many ways to do this. Some students start with talking about what they think about the field in general, some start with their childhood dreams and link it with why they want this degree. Personally, I recommend starting with a personal philosophy then link it to why an advanced degree is important to the next phase of your career and what you'd like to do with this career. So, make sure your first paragraph is strong, well written and concise. 2. Talk about your current academic and work background and their relationship with what you want to study or why it is essential for progress in the field. I have seen SOPs that even mentioned few courses taken during undergraduate in order to show to the admission committee reviewing the application that they have a foundation for success in the program they want to be admitted for. 3. Is your program a research program? If yes, what do you want to research on and why? 4. Why this school? What do they offer that makes it stand out from more than 3000 other universities offering the same course or even better course, in the US? Really, why this school? If you are one of the people who pick up schools from people's approved visa transcript here, then you must do a proper homework by visiting the school website, the program department website, course structure, option for concentrations, etc. If you do this, you'd certainly find more than 3 reasons you want to study at this school you're writing this SOP for. Make sure you mention the school name in this paragraph. It is always better! 5. You are from a developing country, with diverse and rich cultural background, experiences that are unique to you. What are you bring to the school table? Why should they offer you admission? Why should they offer you assistantship (in case you'd be applying and you want to mention it)? Make strong points on these, then include it. NOTE: There is no one fits all SOP. There is also no single way to write SOP. We all tell our stories differently! In fact, it must be unique and express your intentions for the next phase of your career, your academic goals, and so on. The word limit would also determine the contents you pour in. If you are applying to Tier 1, 2, 3 schools or Ivy League, make sure you put your best in the SOP. For top schools, your SOP is more important than the GPA benchmark they are using for admission. You will have competitors with the same GPA, but you can have a competitive edge over them and wow with your SOP that you are the real deal (in case you are applying to highly competitive schools). Use strong vocabulary; show the school you are a unique student with value. If you have not been writing, you will need to take out time to achieve this. A, create the first draft. B, let it sit for some hours, then go back to adjust it. C, remove the cluster and begin to rewrite. D, let it sit again for a day or so. E, pick it up and finish what you started for good. (Share the SOP with knowledgeable friends. If you follow these instructions, you should get in, provided your GPA meets the requirement and you submit your application early). FYI: this is for all applicants aiming at writing a strong SOP for fall 2021 and beyond. With this, I hope nobody will ask how they can write their SOP. Now you know how to. All the best. 32 Likes 6 Shares |

Thoby1: If your visa is approved and during the confirmation of your payments (before the visa is issued) embassy finds out that it has expired or unacceptable, you will be contacted to make a new payment and send the receipt to them. I know a student whose case was like this. Embassy contacted him to make a new payment and after the receipt was sent, the visa was issued. However, to be safe, call DHS and they will tell you what to do. But if you would like to risk going to the embassy with the current payment, sure, you can. If the embassy approved your visa and they want a new payment, you will be contacted to make a new payment. |

It's weekend, so this is a long post, but I hope it's worth your time. This is for those having interview before Spring resumption (and previously refused and hoping to do better in their next interview). I have noticed a trend of copycat on this thread. Although I am no longer surprised, I have to say this is not good. We discussed this last year but I guess the Nigerian education system has failed to train its students the art of ingenuity and being unique. So I am aware copycatting started in school. I know some of you copied the schools that offered you admission from people's transcript from this thread, but please don't copy their responses and go to the embassy to use the same phrase and narrative. Create your own! The US embassy, in my opinion, has been honest to some extent. I remember hearing the story of different VOs complaining during educationUSA sessions about students saying the same thing at the embassy, such as why are people sponsoring students are into the same profession? Last year, the students on this thread almost murdered "Aside from the fact that..." while starting their answers to why this school. I remember writing angrily against it, but unfortunately, the same trend continues this year. My advice for those of you with the upcoming interview is to stand out. Be yourself, and don't let the fear of "what is I am refused" shrink you. You are a unique person. Some people say it is only God that has no replica. It is a lie! No two human being in this world is the same. No matter your experiences, even if you're a twin, you have no replica. Everything about you is unique. Apply that uniqueness to the way you prepare for this interview and other areas of your life that you have hidden the original person that you are...because, after this interview, your view about life may not remain the same. Don't go to the embassy saying what someone that has been approved said. Do you know if you're being interviewed by the same VO? Those who are close to me from this thread knows I don't entertain copycatting or numbing passion as a result of fear. The ONLY reason I encourage interview transcript is that the method used by the US embassy for its interviews is the same used during a 2-minute professional pitch. If you have ever pitched an idea to someone who only has 3 minutes to wait and listen, you'd know what I mean. Have you wondered why the US embassy prefers interview to documentations? Because they want you to convince them with your own month, your own reasons, not by papers that can be packaged and take forever to verify. During a 2-minute pitch, you have to drive home salient points as soon as you are given the chance to talk. Now, if you know you are pitching to someone tomorrow, would you not prepare what you want to say based on who you are, what you do, what you want to do and achieve, and what you want to sell and convince the person to believe or buy? Of course! The human mind cannot perform at its peak when there's fear in it. This is why some consular officers would tell the students to relax before/during the interview. They don't want you to be afraid so that you can speak/pitch to them. Where interview transcript has been used to articulate what you plan to pitch, this fear is subsided, you feel more confident--knowing that your proposed answers are based on your profile and things that interest you about the school, course, funding, etc. Don't forget the God and time factor too. But if anybody tells you that you are not supposed to fail at something or receive disappointment if you have done the right thing or did your best, ask them to tell you why Abraham Lincoln failed many times during his life despite being one of the best Americans around during his time. You can't dissect or understand the twist and turns of life; you can only try your best and keep trying until you win in the things you lay your hands. All the best 45 Likes 6 Shares |

Greenman2020: One thing I have learnt about consulars at the US embassy is that they are fast thinkers. Within 3 minutes, they can see what you didn't see in 9 month of your entire application before you stand before them for the 3-minutes-or-less interview. Working with an NGO ring different types of bell in the VO's head. If you have been refused before, it is possible the previous VO left a remark the new VO made the decision to refuse you on. I am just suspecting. If you changed something critical in your DSFORM and it appears to the VO as a lie, it could also cause refusal. The exact reason for your refusal, in my opinion, cannot really pinpoint. Only God knows what no man has access to! I also need to tell those who have been refused before: Note that not every applicant will be approved their visa. Not every applicant will get it the first time, the second time, a third time. We have seen 4th attempt, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and even 9th. I once read of a story of a student in Asia that was refused 9 times and got it on 10th attempt. Why 9 refusals? Only the God and the embassy knows. It is painful to see your refusal, but keep hope alive. My advise for you is to re-evaluate the reason you applied in the first place? Why? Can you still find that reason? Are you still convinced that you truly need this visa, to study and return to Nigeria? Or you are doing it because someone you know somewhere has done it and it worked for them? If there's still genuine reason and conviction, then try again. In life, you cannot be faster than your time. The time is ahead, you follow. This means until it is time for something, you may not actually have it (Heyo, this is my philosophy and should not be taken as the ultimate reality of your situation). Abone2: To be honest with you, there's no plain answer to your questions. I will advice you renew your visa in the US. Coming to Nigeria is not a problem and I doubt your visa will be refused as you're in status. About your wife, there's no plain answer to this. She can reapply. If she is really a credible student (truly coming to the US to study and not just to come and stay with you and be hustling, while you're the one with intent to study), she may try again and see how it goes. Additionally, if she gets into more competitive school, funded, she'll be able to strengthen her application that she's not runing to be with you, and that her intent is to study. You're in the best place to decide what you want to do. Kindly look at similar case I responded to. Others may also suggest options/solutions I couldn't capture in my response here. I have a lot of messages in my inbox, with all sort of questions. I have to say this is a time of rush and pressure for everyone. I have been very busy, but I promise to reply every message and try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. Please keep asking your questions here except it's personal and you cannot share publicly. Two of the guys who recently got their visas have promised to always come here to help with answers to questions. On Emergency Appointment To those messaging me about what to do if their emergency appointment is denied. Please note, there's not much than to wait for new date to pop up for the location you requested an emergency appointment from (then reshedule for that location or to a second location). Or cancel your current unsuitable appointment, lose the visa fee and pay a new visa fee, then request emergency from that location or another location. But I think as more people are interviewed, earlier dates may show up. Should you wait? Should you cancel and pay another visa fee? Only the applicant can answer this question. If this is your question, please relief me of the stress by taking what's explained above as the answer you'd get from me. There are other people that can also answer questions here, even better than me. They are always ready to help. _____ To those who were refused today or other times, please note that the F-1 visa is like a goal. Sometimes, we fail to achieve it once, but will you stop? NO! A goal is something you pursue until attained, adjusting in your pursuit, looking for better options, taking instructions, and so on. You adjust, push again, prepare better, or wait and get a strong and competitive admission with funding. You don't give up on your goal, or it would mean you never really wanted to achieve it in the first place. Disappointment is a part of the human experience. Some of us had to experience it to become wise, stronger, learn, change our view and embrace the reality that life is not easy, and so on. But a single setback, even multiple setback, doesn't mean it is the end of our dream. Fall 6 times? Get up the 7th! So get up! Don't give up if you mean it. All the best! 20 Likes 2 Shares |

Shehuroj: I am sorry about your wife's and baby refusal. I think it is important to note that VOs looks at cases differently. Those who were approved with F1-F2 were probably not interviewed by the VO that intervieweed your wife today. Now, during interview, VO usually ask about husband or wife coming to join later--in case you are married with kids. It is possible the VO that approved your visa asked you this question. Perhaps? What you said was No, not at this time. Probably? You have been in the US for a year, and now, your wife and only kid was about to join you. The VO probably thought this is a plan to migrate since you are already in the US and your wife and kids will not be returning to Nigeria with you once you graduate--if at all you will return yourself. I know this may not be the case. Another thing is, I don't think she has funding, although she really gave very strong points during our mock. Now, here is another question: if you and your wife and baby are out, what is the chances of coming back after graduation? Very slim to impossible--in the mind of the VO. This is how they think. She can change class of visa to F2, but I really hope that works. Now, I really hope, because that will confirm exactly what the VO might be thinking, that they are runing to come and be with you and you guys do not really want to return (assuming this is what he thought). Have you visited Nigeria since you travelled? This type of case is hard to predict or say something definite on. Last fall, a lady I'd call T (not her real name) was refused twice with her baby, even though she has funding, and have been to the US like twice or so (can't remember details vividly anymore). After deliberation, I suggested she might need to leave the baby with hubby in Nigeria and apply alone--just to show her intention is purely for studies. She said she thought about the same and boom, she reapplied, and she was given the visa in December. She's in Indiana now, studying. Another example is Bley (name changed). She got funding from XX university, and even though she is a mother, she applied alone. I think after a year and half, she returned to pick the infant (early this year), and according to her, the VO who interviewed her and the baby sympathised as why she left a baby so young behind for studies in the US. Now, something happened: Before Bley came in January, her hubby got admission to the same school, full funding. My dear, he was refused like 5 times. I remember grilling him over the phone. My grilling failed! Na so he chill and let go. Till now, the husband no get the visa. But wife and baby don dey US. Case differ. No two VOs are the same, and even if they are same, they are unlikely to make same decision on different applications. Which is why you should not look at why it worked for others and not for you at this time. One thing I am very sure about the US embassy is that, if they smell intention to run, they will refuse. It doesnt matter how you feel! Their job is to refuse anyone they feel isn't a credible student (even if the applicant is credible). How do you make them see that you're credible? So how do you show you are a credible student with intent to return to Nigeria after studies? Well, there's no single way to it, and in your wife's case, it is tricky. My advice for her is to try again. But if getting funding is possible, tell her to try. It takes competitiveness to get funding, and I want to believe that every VO sees your funding as an opportunity you cherished and that you'd not abandon that just for your relationship. If your wife wants to show that credibility and remove the intent to migrate that appears to be visible (because you're there, and now, she is coming with your only child), she should have a competitive admission. OR, drop your baby out of the application. OR, she can try again and see how it goes. Please note: I AM NOT A VO. THIS IS PURELY AN OPINION FROM MY ASSESSMENT OF YOUR SITUATION. I hope this can help you make the right decision. 11 Likes 1 Share |
