If you are a Nigerian and you think the government genuinely care about you, you are on your own. Run your race, but make sure you don't break the law. That way you wil be less disappointed about the happenings in Nigeria.

BusinessRe: French Firm, Canal+ Group, Offers To Buy Multichoice For $1.69bn by Fairview1(m): 10:46pm On Feb 02, 2024
SoNature:
You mean they will sell off their current businesses and investments to buy Multi Choice? You'd better wake up!

When you hear people's net worth, it means the money they have in bank and investments. Those reviewers don't even mention how much they are owing.

Those rich people owe banks billions of naira. Mind you, the richest among us use your money and my money to do business.

No Nigerian can pay that money (almost $1.7 billion) at a go. In fact, they will have to borrow a lot of money from several banks and pay the money over a period of time. The question is, "Is that what Multi Choice would want?"
Buying and selling business is also a business own its own. The canal plus that needed to acquire the these shares are doing it for a strategic purpose, because they needed to penetrate the African market with controlling interest.

How many European media houses are owned by African firms? Africa where up!
It doesn't have to be a media houses, Africans are increasingly buying businesses belonging to both European and Even American companies, but our ill-informed prejudice will never allow us see the amazing wonders our own hardworking star entrepreneurs are doing at the global stage.

nairalanda1:
How many African firms have the money to buy European media houses. Or crucually, the interest ?

Europeans are racist, but they are allowing their things to be bought up by people from Asia, people they look down upon, because money knows no race.

Heck, a hundred years ago, some of the british nobility were marrying rich americans daughters...not because they thought they were suitable women... but because them women came loaded with rich dowry, and they were broke. (If you know how the white nobility looks down on their own people, talk less of some American, no matter how white back in those days...)

If an African company has the money and the kudi to buy a media house in Yurrup, they will buy it. Right now, no African has the interest.
@your first paragraph: You certainly do not know exactly what's happening within the African entrepreneurial ecosystem. Never in the history of Africa has Africans invested so heavily in businesses either owned or managed by the US, European or Asian countries (with controlling interest) like they do now. Get your facts right.

You people have started with this nonsense again!! Show me the website of Multichoice in any other country where they offer this pay per view billing!?

Are the following not monthly subscription? Do they care whether you use it or not?

Microsoft 365
Internet subscription
Netflix
Spotify
Adobe

The content you watch on dstv is paid for in dollars. As Naira devalues, you need more Naira to pay for the same dollar, hence the price increases!!
I'm always surprised why most Nigerian's reaction to deals like this usually come from the prism of consumerism, rather than entrepreneurial. Smart guys after reading this would rather go and buy Canal Plus or Multi Choice shares...

Like it or not, multi choice is first a business before it is a tool for entertainment. To gain access to these high quality programming cost alot and a massive amount of money in hard currency. Big up to Canal Plus for this strategic investment move, and congratulations to Multi choice for having built a multi billion and an afro centric media behemoth.

It's laughable how this government think that sharing Rice is the solution to Nigeria problem. Secure the nation and create an environment that allows businesses to thrive and they will employ people and their comes the reduction to poverty and begging.

Straight to the point:

We're family of 8 living closely together in the family compound.
What happened here is that in 2009, shell company came to our community and and offered us and anyone interested a cheap and affordable borehole. We took the advantage to have borehole in our family compound.

Fast-forward to 2017, one of my brothers conceived the ideas of making pure water from the family water. The idea was a welcome development as we all donated towards the success of the business.

To cut long story short...

When the business became successful due to the environmental position (our compound is closed to border). My brother refused any member of the family an access to the benefits accrued the sale. My brother fought anyone who demand for a share from the sale. Literally most times in a week my brother could make a sale up 1m. In a week.

Currently, he is building another water factory unopposed by the family. Family compound is decaying and he said, he had no concern whatever happens in the compound and that his only concentration is in his business.

Being the last born in the family with negligence of help from the only brother who could recus me using that our local oil well. I decided to pick up a battle of GIVE ME MY SHARE OF THE PROFIT YOU MAKE FROM MY FATHER PROPERTY. The fight no be here. He is now asking us to come together so we can share properties so he can exonerates himself from the rest of us.

Please I need advice on how to crab my shares from this LIFETIME business.
I love the fact that you are speaking the truth without hiding it under the narrative of,....there's this my friend who lives in our neighborhood ishh

Look, business principle wise, your brother is on the right track, ethical wise he's definitely not on the right track.

Summon your brother through the eldest in your family, clan or community, have everyone sit down and discuss it properly. It's inappropriate for him to appropriate everything to himself when the business was organically started by the family.

I will propose a two prong approach:

Either he value the company and buy everyone out according to the contributions you all made earlier or he value the business and everyone get periodic compensation of whatever is earned by the business.

My mum became a great grandma in her sixties.

RomanceRe: Divorced / Separated? How’s Life After That? Share Your Experience by Fairview1(m): 2:30pm On Nov 14, 2023
Marriage is the oldest institution, built by God for the advancement of his kingdom. It's a covenant that when you as the man or woman strive to play your part, successful and peaceful harmonious family will automatically become your inheritance.

When couples got separated or divorced, what that means is that God is not in it. Make your marriage work by striving to leave according to the commandment of Christ in Ephesians 5:23.

franxiz:
Good evening wonderful people on the forum.

I just want to share my depression, regrets and failed marriage experience just to let out this load in my heart and move on with life. I will be brief and straight to the point

I met this lady back in our university days, we shared a lot in common and interest. The relationship was good till graduation when we both served in different states, some months into NYSC, she messaged me to forgive her actions and try to move on with life as she had found someone who is ready to settle down and since am still serving I need time to establish myself, that message broke my heart, I tried calling her but she block me on all platforms...

Fast-forward 2years later after NYSC, I got a call from a familiar number but was not sure who the caller might be.. wow it's her! After hearing her voice... before I could say anything, she was already crying and begging me for forgiveness on the phone etc, I tried acting like commando, but the love and fellings we shared took the better of me. I let the past and we started all over again.

Few years later, we are married no kids yet and no peace in the house, we can't spend one full week in a month happy as husband and wife without quarry and not speaking to each other, I have tried to find solution to this issues, but nothing, sometimes it's goes on for months... I have tried talking the her family about it our issues but they feel less concerned as if it's my cross, I have to bear it alone.

My problem began few months after our marriage, wifey complain of being lonely at home each time I go out for work and wanted a small business to run so as to support the family, good idea I though but am regretting it today. As wifey is so engrossed in this business and forgetting she has a husband to attend to, Monday to Sunday, even Christmas, easter, salla holidays, she goes to shop from 7am and comes back at night by 9 or 9:30pm with the excuse of traffic on the way or my supplies where bringing me goods so I have to wait for them to come...

Mine most worried issue is that she is not concerned in starting a family, each time I want her attention, all I get is am tired, body dey pain me, tomorrow we do it... but she can't fail to attend to her business matters even as late as 10:30pm she is ordering goods or calling her customs of the goods she has in store from her phone....

I finally man up and told her to choose between her marriage or Business, my people this lady shock me, she walked out of the marriage to focus on her business after wasting my time and resources...

It hurts but I will overcome this depression with time... thank you all and good night.
