sauer: What you don't seem to understand is the full use of sidewords in Dana's response to the Nairalander's claim. Dana maintains the airplane was never airborne. The Nairalander never claimed same, if one's interpretation of airborne is "flying at cruising altitude". And come to think of it! Airborne indeed could mean that.
Whatever the case, I'm more inclined to believe the story of an eyewitness than that of a structured organisation still trying all it can to regain public confidence. You should know they'd go to any length.

Sauer, There is no guarantee that the nairalander version is the authentic version. Even as I know that Dana air can put up claims to cover up a mess due to a recent incident I do know people at times to try to go the extra mile to discredit anything / anyone once they are biased. Thats why am not giving it to the OP. You can as well attest to many wrong / false postings by some nairalanders. You get what I mean. Even if the plane had taken off (airborne) and d fault was detected its not anyhow uncommon as against some peeps here shouting why don't they discover the snag b4 taking off. Ve been on a British Airways plane from London Heathrow Via Michigan to Houston before and after taking off from Detroit, a fault was detected (guess what that was?). The wheels couldn't retract and the pilot had to turn around and land.
Another instance comes to mind. This case in Luanda aboard a chopper to a platform and 15mins into the supposed 1hr flight, we had to turn back and have an emergency landing due to a fault.
So my basic points here
1) You dont have to get to an altitude before you are certified *airborne
2) You can even be airborne and detect a fault
3) One of either OP / Dana is trying to misinform the public about the incident details. (whoever that is, even you can't say).

What is the difference between a "snag" and a "technical fault?"

What is the difference between a plane that took off and landed and a plane that has not been airborne?

Was the snag or fault discovered before the plane left for the runway, as in was the snag or fault discovered during pre-takeoff inspection?

What is the meaning of airborne? cruising altitude?

jjman2322: You're wrong. The difference is the USA airplanes are 99% of the time bought new by the same airline, and meticulously maintained and serviced.. The difference in Nigeria is they buy SCRAP from other airlines... Those delta airplanes were bought new by DELTA, so did USA Air.. Dana bought an airline that has been passed from generation to generation..

I've entered one of those "OLD airplanes" in USA, and its light years ahead of Nigerian airplanes.. You can actually see rust on the Aero airplane control surfaces from the first class window..

Also, those airlines have old airplanes, BUT they have MANY NEW ONES Too.. For every old airplane they have, they have brand new ones flying around.. nigerian airlines have ONLY OLD AIRPLANES.. show me a new airplane on Dana, or Aero, or Chachangi.. But i can show you dozens of new airplanes in Delta, USA airways, etc..

What Texazzpete is trying to point out to u is do not brandish the age of the plane as the root cause. It will be better for you to attribute the aviation failure to horrible maintenance culture / systems and failed policies in this country. A new plane will crash if not subjected to the right checks, maintenance etc. Google the history of the crashed Brand new Kenya Airline (KQ) that crashed not long after take off from Douala, Cameroon some years back .. so U'll know newness of plane doesn't make it immune to crash. I'd rather fly in a perfectly maintained 25yr old aircraft than a poorly maintained 5 yr old plane. Enuf said!!!

Do you have to reach cruising altitude before you are considered to be airborne? You can tell that Dana's statements were couched in vague terms and was pretty much saying the same thing the Nairalander said.

We are also not saying that what happened to Dana Air is unique to Dana Air and does not happen to other airlines; the issue is whether Dana's statement differs from that of the Nairalander's.

Dana said the plane was not airborne. The Nairalander pretty much said the plane rose in the air " a bit and came down again." Dana did not categorically deny that claim. All they said is that the plane was not airborne. Did the plane make it to the runaway and attempted to take off? Or was the fault discovered during pre-takeoff checks? Dana is trying to play us for a fool.

I wonder if you or Sauer had ever been on a flight before or know the dynamics of flight take-off / landing. Theres is no way a plane can take off slightly and come down just like dat ... Do you know a plane has to get to a certain speed on the run way b4 lifting? Do you know the total length of the runway on which its taking off ... which the plane must have covered over 50% of (as d case of our runway in context) b4 taking off ... Pls do not spew ur ignorance in here. Have a deep knowledge of the subject matter b4 commenting.
