20pounds I agree with you my main concern with investing in student accommodation is collecting the rent. The thought of leaving my day job to go and case students + cult member around is not appealing . The only thing I can think of is to build high end self contained apartments and rent it only to ladies. What do you guys think?

They will not stop milking us until we stop acting like cows. Does anyone know of another country where the police fail to do their work but insist on vehicle owners fitting expensive devices into their vehicles? We just keep setting new records for mumuness.

How can he be making all that money and not help our girls? What happened to 'giving back to the society that made you'? It is our girls right to be jealous cos Mikel is a big fish that has refused to show up during a fishing expedition.

Naija babes, wherever you people go(whether babalawo or white garment churches) to 'tie' and confuse sugar daddies, making them abandon their families and buy you the latest phones with monies meant for their children's school fees, it is high time you people visit there again for Mikel.

The same reason a friend put his small hotel up for sale. He toiled seriously abroad for many years to start that business hoping to:
Create some jobs (a very old-fashioned idealist) and to gradually invest back home and have businesses to return home to years from now.

Come and see dishonesty from staff and so-called family members involved.

When the dude is in Naija, hotel is usually 70 to 95 % occupied depending on day of the week, season etc.

The minute he flies abroad, they'll report as low as 20% occupancy.

We have a long way to go.

Those are the likes of "Archbabe" stealing from shoprite in the name of increasing monthly earnings. That's why she is 'nobody' today. lolz

Its 25K monthly. You need to consider what the hotel is making before you all point accusing fingers at the owner. Is it a hotel going for 15-20K / room/ night? or is it just a 4-6K / night rate. In any given biz, once your Outflow is greater than inflow - U are going red man!!!

Take it moreso if you dont have anything doing at the moment. I was once in your shoes. After NYSC, someone offered me to be administrator in his newly opened Cybercafe in Warri on a payroll of N7,500. At first I felt like being insulted (a whole solid 2:1 graduate of Geology) but after much thought , I took it. Afterall am gonna be having free internet everyday to job search / apply rather than buying N100/hr ever time. Guess what someone came in one day (abt 3months after)with an advert not published in d dailies and I made an application. That's the end of Cafe ... You dont want to knw what I earn today ... Worked in 6 different countries for the same company.

So I'll advice you, take it and do your job properly / professionally - Special touch and initiative of a graduate. You never know who you might check in one day that'll be impressed about your service / manners / professionalism. - My 2 cents

I wish you the best

odehaj: GEOLOGY??..No wonder, anyway most of u guys in NL are students, fresh graduates&NYSC(corpers) with no real-life (out-of-school)experience that's why you can talk anyhow! Let me let u know that BSc Building. A professional Builder is someone who is trained academically&knows d techniques to construct building, not just laying blocks...he is quite different from an Architect that's why most Universities have it as a PROFESSIONAL course-5yrs.with a professional body NIOB..Architects only designs. I won't waste my time in lecturing u 'cos u not ready to learn,I've been going thru 'ur posts. Goodluck with ur geology.

Even though I disagree with haykins01 list of courses bla bla bla in his earlier post. I felt some sarcasm in your response at his course of study (Geology). Anything wrong with that Its one of the great courses out there with a good prospect, and mind you its very very tough to come out with gud grades.
I do agree with you all courses are unique and essential in their own way. I once told a brother-in-law that wanted to go into fish farming and thinks its just all about feeding the fishes. I asked what training do u have, he said "Not necessary, just feed your fish and u'll be fine". I replied, you think that guy/girl that spent his/her last 4yrs in uni studying Fishery was just continually been told by the lecturer day in day out "Feed your fishes"

Meanwhile Haykins, your course of study is just a platform not necessarily a guarantee. I studied Geology in uni, but today am a Drilling Engineer in the oil & gas sector. Needless to say, I never worked as a Geologist within these 9yrs experience in my oil & gas career.

To the Rock (GEY) Family, I hail ooo !!!

These courses are mostly imposed on the students as a result of their not passing the cut off for their preferred course. IMO,any course apart from the ones below will most likely be among them.
1. Medicine/Surgery.
2. Engineering.
3. Accounting.
4. Economics.
5. Law.
6. Mass communication/Languages.
7. Agriculture.

Family / Re: Operation No To Househelps 2014 by Fajzay: 6:29pm On Dec 23, 2013
mogbomoya: Hello Everyone, most especially Pamela Gold, abeg relax, no need for insults.

This tread is not to debate on having househelps or not. It is a tread to share tips on how to simplify your life's if you decide not to have a househelp.

@ All those insinuating I am a bad woman cos I have had 3 househelps in a year. Thts ur opinion. I can't defend myself. The funny thing is that everyone tells me even a Pastor that I spoil my househelps too much! As such they think they have arrived and act badly. (My help sits on the dinning with us at meals times, join us for family outings even to d cinemas and dinners, family holiday, they go to driving school sef! Cos it's a policy for us incase of emergency). I guess my 1st help became a thief after she joined us to Dubai for a family holiday. So, I take it also that it is my fault my first house help is a thief (Funny is that she never stole from me, she kept stealing from this particular neighbour (and eventually stole weaveon from a salon. She got lynched that day and she was stripped naked and beaten publicly.

I guess it is also my fault that the 3rd househelp got pregnant for our gate man. I should keep a househelp tht blatantly refuses to shut her door while dressing up. Infact it was even my hubby tht gave an ultimately tht she must go (The 3rd) cos I was still willing to keep her even though she was pregnant.

Will u keep a house help (The 2nd) that sleeps so deeply and does not hear when ur child is crying? Or a help that just deeps ur child in a bucket of water and calls it a bath? Or a help tht simply refuses to join family night prayer or go to church.

I pay a lot for my sons day care (Abt 55k a month). The owner (Pastor's wife) of the creche lives in the same compound. (They own the building and it is a redeem creche), so I am very comfortable leaving him there till 7pm. He doesn't even like coming home. lolz.

Maybe I am sourcing my helps from the wrong agency and tribe! I can't mention the tribe so as not to start a tribal war.

I have a colleague that has a nanny, a housemaid and a driver (She has only a daughter) and yet she complains of stress. lolz.

The key is time management, and I have learnt to manage my time. It may even interest you to know that I have time to exercise at least 45 mins , 4 times a week.

You are not wrong jare ... We've been in ur shoes before. We had like 3 househelps in abt 6months. You can just come home and next thing, they've ran away. or wanting to go to their village every month to go see their parents. Its always one story or the other. Looks like when they say u are a househelp, the same kinda spirit just possess them. And I can confidently say, none of them was maltreated or given any workload. They cook the food, dish their own food. They get to be shopped for and dashed nice clothing's including U*wears. What else can someone do for them . Infact we all do the house chores together. I tire oo
Family / Re: Operation No To Househelps 2014 by Fajzay: 6:23pm On Dec 23, 2013
Irokoroots: Na wa o. After reading some the post on this tread, all I can say is thank God for America. America is not the best country in the world, but it sure is better than a lot of places. If Nigeria was the only country in the world, some people’s children would never become anything more than housegirls.

I do see the point Pamela was trying to get across; although, she polluted it with her poor choice of words.

Some lady even made her house help get tested for HIV before employment. WOW! Are your children drinking her blood!? What type of example are you setting for your kids? Ask yourself what Jesus would do in such situation. I am sure you are Christian and Jesus/Holy Spirit are the moral compass of our faith. If the problem is your relative getting something from the house girl due to their potential to wander then you've got bigger problem than her HIV status.

Asking Nigerians to give up this housegirl culture is like asking some people not to breath. I do advice that if you must get help please employ someone who is of a more mature age (above 21) and pay the person a living wage (enough to pay rent on their own). This will at least help alleviate this disgusting practice of child slavery in the guise of housegirl.

@OP sorry for digressing. I just had to get this off my chest. You have raised some valid tips. I do hope your efforts pays off.

Whats the problem with a potential employer running HIV, Hep B tests and the likes on a potential housemaid. Its very essential, they are not witches that drink blood, rather what if the house help is cooking and accidentally cuts herself with the knife, do u know what risk you and your family is opening urself up to You think HIV is only contracted by B*anging?

Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Prefer To Buy Used Car Rather Than Buying A New Car? by Fajzay: 7:05am On Dec 23, 2013
Every_LadY: the responses so far goes a long way in showing the bunch of Nigerian mentality towards 2nd hand goods. Why is our country a dumping ground for mechanical /electronic and textile waste? simply because we do not have any more value for our dignity. Our new born babies are welcome to the world with 2nd hand clothes and some people tell me it lasts longer. what a thinf? Am an anti second hand wear of all type,be it car/cloth/electronics.... we can reshape our future with a change of our mind set.am sure some other Ngerians share same sentiment, no matter how small the percentage it must surely increase.

You talk like a novice, do you knw the difference between buying thigs on credit and making full payment. You talk about a Nigeria mentality of gunning for used things. Tell me what you want them to do when he/she has to pay 100% for everything, no even any line of credit and even if a bank gives u any credit, its a cut neck interest rate. Who doesn't like new things, but where do you want the common vulcanizer, mechanic, wheelbarrow pusher, plumber, traffic warden etc get all the money to buy his daily need / utilities new (not even talking about luxury now). We have to be very realistic here ... I can bet you if in the US they have to pay 100% for all they need on daily basis, half of the country would live on 2nd hand goods (be it anything) not to say a good number doesn't live on 2nd habd stuffs as we speak. so my dear, point of correction, this is not a Nigerian mentality ...
Or the house you are renting as we speak, is it new? Did someone not live there b4 u pack in
