Sin is not arbitrarily defined. Instead, sin refers to direct disobedience of God's given commandments/laws.

Jesus Christ is God's New Covenant Law in the Kingdom of God. He is God's Law and Truth by whose Words that which is sin sin definrf for those who are of the Kingdom of God.

Unlike the Old Covenant Law of Moses, there are about 65 commandments given us in the New Covenant and those who love Jesus Christ are those who submit to and obey His teachings and laws.

I'd love to look at the second paragraph from a different viewpoint. You see, there are certain things that God has personally forbidden us from doing. Those are sins. Eg, murder, stealing, adultery, fornication, etc.

While the Bible didn't itemize some things as sins, I strongly believe that God speaks to us through our consciences. Those acts that make our conscience pricks us and come short of the glory of God are sins. God forbids sins because they have a negative impact.
