A massive crowd of supporters stormed the airport to welcome Governor Nyesom Wike back to Rivers State after he led the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to victory in Edo State.

Wike is the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship election which held on Saturday, 19th September 2020.

The PDP candidate, Godwin Obaseki, polled 307,955 votes to defeat all other candidates and was declared the winner by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh.

Femi Gbajabiamiala, speaker of the house of representatives, is set to meet lawmakers in Ghana over the recent crisis involving both countries.


In the past weeks, both countries have been at loggerheads over the “ill treatment” of Nigerians in Ghana.

In June, a part of the Nigerian mission building in Ghana was demolished. Some Nigerian traders in Ghana also accused the Ghanaian government of closing their shops over non-registration with the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC), which requires $1,000,000 minimum foreign equity.

Following the development, the federal government had told Ghana it would no longer tolerate the harassment.

Speaking with journalists after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, Gbajabiamila said he has secured the blessing of the president to proceed to Ghana on what he called “legislative diplomacy”.

“One of the issues we discussed today, I’m leaving for Ghana tomorrow to meet with the speaker of the parliament in Ghana to look at the issues on ground, as it affects our citizens, and to try and calm things down and see if there’s a way forward,” he said.

I’ll meet with the speaker tomorrow. I informed the president and he’s aware of every single step that we are taking all the way, and we hope that we’ll come to an amicable settlement one way or the other.

“It’s called legislative diplomacy. If you remember very well, I led the delegation to South Africa during the crisis there with Nigerians and we were able to accomplish quite a bit, to simmer things down at that time.

“No demands; we’re just going to discuss in the spirit of African parliaments and we’ll be looking at issues from time to time as they affect African countries and this is one of them.”

He said Nigeria is looking for amicable solutions, and while the Ghanaians have their take on what’s going on, Nigeria also has its position, and would see how both countries can come to a solution.

“We are two strong West African countries and there must be symbiosis; we must work together. You don’t get anything from working at cross purposes or knocking heads together. We must, at all times, as Africans, work as best as possible together and that’s what this my trip is about,” he added.

Edo 2020: PDP installs digital billboard to broadcast Oshiomhole’s attestation on Obaseki’s credibility

As part of its campaign strategy, the Edo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has installed electronic billboard to broadcast the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole’s attestation to the credibility and integrity of Governor Godwin Obaseki during the 2016 governorship election campaign in the state.

The South-South acting chairman of the party, Dan Orbih, commissioned the electronic billboard located at the defunct African Continental Bank (ACB) building in Ring Road, Benin City.

Orbih, who is also the PDP state campaign council chairman for the September 19 governorship election, said the electronic billboard will help to broadcast all accolades, votes of confidence poured and passed on to the governor as the APC candidate in 2016 by the former governor, Oshiomhole.

He also disclosed that the electronic billboard will help to showcase to the people of the state all the governor’s campaign tour in the 192 wards across the 18 local government areas.

“We are here this evening to commission the electronic board as part of the party and the governor’s campaign innovation. This electronic board will televise most of the governor campaigns’ jingles, all that the former national chairman of APC said about the governor, and also where sometime people will be to watch some of the party’s campaign visit across the 192 wards and 18 local government areas, so that even if you are not able to go with him, you can have a very good view of some of his activities in the course of our campaigns activities,” Orbih said.

“Some persons don’t actually have access to watch and listen to the campaign in their homes but wherever they pass through the Ring Road, they will be able to watch the campaigns. This is quite commendable and I believe that it is a new chapter in the campaign arrangement to reach out to more people,” he said.

While commenting on the former governor’s allegations that Governor Obaseki masterminded the suspension of the Onojie of Uromi, he advised those in the position of leadership especially the politicians not to take any action or decision they will not be able to stand by after leaving office.

He alleged that Oshiomhole during his tenure as governor of the state unilaterally suspended the traditional ruler, but the suspension was, however, lifted by the incumbent governor.

Orbih urged the people of the state not to trust on politicians that cannot stand by their decision, noting that the forthcoming governorship election is all about Edo people and their future as the state cannot afford to go back to Egypt.

Parents beg for help as their son who went to Ukraine for school goes missing after hanging out with friends on a yacht

The parents of a Nigerian student who went missing in Ukraine after being invited to a party on a yacht have issued a plea for help in getting information about their son's whereabouts.



Nigerian citizen, Obari-Mark Caleb, born in 1999, is a recent graduate of Sumy State Agrarian University. He has a residence permit in Ukraine.



He was invited by a woman to a party on a yacht on Thursday, August 20. He attended the party in the company of his friends but didn't return with them.



According to volunteers of the search platform, "911", Caleb disappeared during a walk. He was on the yacht of the private yacht club “Sauvignon” (Ovidiopol district of Odessa region) when he disappeared.



He reportedly went for the walk in the company of 8 people (including the captain of the yacht).



In the Odessa region, the police are investigating the circumstances of the disappearance of the Nigerian citizen while on a yacht.



Caleb's companions claim that he disappeared while swimming. Caleb cannot swim and speaks only English, according to students and teachers of Sumy College.



According to EN24 News, Caleb was invited to the yacht by a woman who, according to public figures, is the owner (or employee) of one of the well-known local clubs with an ambiguous reputation.



The “911” platform has a photo of Caleb, in which he was in the club in the company of the aforementioned young woman. The photo, according to volunteers, was taken a few weeks ago.

Currently, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1 of Art. 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal code of Ukraine.



It has been reported that Caleb's comrades independently hired two private divers who are exploring the Black Sea, where he could have drowned.



Meanwhile, Caleb's parents have released a video, demanding answers. His father begged the Nigerian authorities to get involved and help him find his son as he has reached out to Ukraine to ask questions without getting any satisfactory answer.



Caleb's mother said she believes someone is behind her son's disappearance and she begged for help and prayers in uncovering the mystery. She asked how it is possible that he will go out with friends and they will come back without him and not have an answer as to what happened to him.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for “continuously giving excuses for their failure to solve pressing national problems facing the country.”

Wike said the APC had in 2015 promised Nigerians that it would solve most of the national challenges, but had, five years after, failed woefully to meet the expectation of the citizenry.

The governor denounced the APC poor performance in governance when Rivers State executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) visited him at the Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday.

He said Nigerians were hoping that the PDP would return to power because the APC had failed Nigeria.

“You have promised and you have failed. There is nothing to try you for again. Nigerians have realised that it is better they stay with the PDP that has the interest of Nigeria at heart than a party that gives excuses everyday.

“You know there are problems in Nigeria and you made promises, asking Nigerians to vote for you, and for five years, nothing has changed,” Wike lamented.

He advised Rivers people not to allow themselves to be hoodwinked by APC political appointees from Rivers State who have nothing to offer them.

“There is nothing the APC can say to Rivers people today as the reason they should be voted for. Whether it is the Federal Government or their political appointees, they have nothing to tell us.

“The money they have approved for us as refund has not been given to us. But I am not worried. I will continue to work. We have something we can show to Rivers people,” he said.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has resumed his ward-to-ward campaign for re-election as governor in the September 19 gubernatorial poll, noting that he will vehemently resist forces fighting to stop his people-centric projects in the state.

Speaking at the palace of the Oliola of Anegbette in Etsako Central Local Government Area of the state, His Royal Highness (HRH) Ugbodaga Yakubu, Governor Obaseki said he had come to seek prayers and support ahead of the election, as he did for his first term.

According to him, “My visit to your palace is part of my electioneering campaign. This place is a traditional place for me. You adopted me during my first electioneering campaign. You gave me your royal blessings and I won in the election. I am here again to seek your blessings and support.

“I want to assure you that Anegbette will receive more developmental projects in my second term, despite the current economic challenges across the world.”

When his campaign trail hits Wards 9 and 10 in Anegbette, the governor said: “We have built a power plant in Benin City and will replicate the same here. Without roads, electricity and good industries, it will be difficult to develop our state. Our government is all about development and that is what we have done in the last three years and eight months.”


He continued, “We have people fighting us because they want to stop our resolve to develop Edo State, but we are ever ready to ensure the development train continues non-stop. You need to come out en-masse, vote and protect your votes to ensure we come out successful in the election, so we can continue on the path of development. This election is all about progress.”

On his part, Chairman of the Edo PDP Campaign Council, Chief Dan Orbih, accused the candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as the one behind the collapse of Bendel Brewery and Edo Line while he served as Secretary to Edo State Government.

He said, “Oshiomhole told us that the former Secretary to State Government now APC candidate, liquidated Bendel Brewery and Edo Line and the loan collected was mismanaged. He failed to keep to the repayment plan, leading to the collapse of these companies.”

On his part, a former PDP governorship aspirant, Kenneth Imasuagbon, received decampees from the All Progressives Congress on behalf of the PDP, as former executives of the opposition party in Wards 9 and 10 along with their followers declared support for the PDP.

Chairmen of the APC in Wards 9 and 10 in Anegbette, Damudu Ibrahim and Momoh Aliu, respectively, pledged their loyalty and support for Obaseki and Shaibu, and promised to deliver 100 per cent of the votes in the wards to the PDP.

The commissioner of police in Kogi state Ayuba Ede has disclosed that the killers of late Innocent Ofodile, owner of popular chucks supermarket in Lokoja, that was brutally murdered along the Lokoja-Abuja road has been identified.

The police commissioner who brief journalists in Lokoja, explained that on receipt of discreet information, arising from kidnappings and robbery incidents on the Lokoja Abuja highway, one Vincent Omogor was arrested and in his confession mentioned that other of his cohorts who are at large carried out the dastardly killing of Innocent Offodile

According to Omogor, the gang carried out the killing on the order of one of his shop attendants, who complained of not being attended to when he approached him for financial assistance when his father died.

While, parading twenty three (23) other criminals, the police commissioner said the hoodlums were picked from different parts of the state.

He said that they were arrested for armed robberies, banditry kidnapping, possession of illegal fire arms, impersonation by wearing military camouflage to commit crimes, while other were nabbed for snatching of vehicles.

Ede further disclosed that the command achieved the feat through synergy with the public who gave useful information that lead to the arrest of the criminals.

He added that the command’s new strategy of involving men of the operation puff adder has checkmated the activities of the kidnapers especially on the Lokoja Okene highway.

He commended the state government for its support, the community policing committee, senior special assistants on security across the twenty one local government areas for their valuable information that helped them to achieve the results so far.
