Take your time to understand the statistics well young man. There is no decrease in food production from the statistics. What you have is decreas in GROWTH. It grew by 3% then grew by 0.9% BUT THERE WAS STILL INCREASE NOT DECREASE. Even your statistics from usda supports this. Look at that faint grey line. That is the growth trend and you can see that it is positive for 2 out of the 3 crops you posted.

2. The contribution of agriculture to GDP is measured in terms of currency. Surely you can't expect agriculture to increase in value when we are majorly a net importer of food. What volume of food do we export compared to countries like Thailand, Holland, Indonesia even Ghana and Cote D'Ivoire. Contribution to GDP does not mean that food output is reducing. I already gave you the statistics and it agreed with yours as well so what are you on about GDP contribution?

3. That dude you mentioned is easily the dumbest dude in here. He comments offpoint or totally ridiculously negative to commonsense. He simply has no clue about anything. I'm disappointed you see his comments as a worthy validation of your stand.

4. If you are talking of scarcity due to export, that still means food is not scarce but is going to the wrong place. Your earlier claim was that agricultural production has declined and is responsible for increase in price which I rejected. Export is a function of currency devaluation which I already mentioned. That should even increas agric contribution to GDP then.
You are the most dumbest I have ever seen... So clueless.

I can't believe I just watest my time with u

Statista have a branch in Nigeria and they use data from research carried out in-country. The name of the researcher is put in these reports. Go check it out on their website.
You're making a mistake. What is presented in that post is crop production growth rate per quarter. Population growth rate is per annum. To get crop production growth rate, you need to add four of those figures to get the annual. It's about scale not numbers. If you had crop growth rate of an average of 10% over 5 years, it means crop output increased within that time at a rate of 10% from the initial value. That's a good record if you ask me.
The problem is you're looking at only population growth rate without realising that population growth rate CANNOT lead to food scarcity because the food will be available. Except you mean babies consume a lot of food!!
Again, don't forget your claim was food scarcity. You can't have food scarcity when your production is increasing even if marginally.
Mind you, Nigeria is the largest producer of a good number of crops in the world and Africa in some cases such as yam, millet, rice etc. So if Niger, Benin are not facing food scarcity how can Nigeria that produces far more than them have it? Something is missing somewhere
1)
When food production decrease from 1st quarter 3.26% in 2019 to 0.9% 1st Quarter 2023 what does that tells you?

https://nigerianstat.gov.ng/elibrary/read/1241369

2) a thread about contributions to the economy from 2003 to 2023.. Take note of agriculture contributions
https://www.nairaland.com/8119011/nigerias-five-largest-sectors-2003

3) even helinus the APC rebot has demonstrated enough intelligence thank u

4) even as food production falls, smuggling of foods increase encouraged by currency devaluation. CFA now have more value than naira... Meaning it's cheaper to import foods into those countries

So a simple fact such as the cost of transportation affecting the cost of food is lost on you.
And a simple fact such as the exchange rate affecting the cost of food is also lost on you.

Well done, Mr. United Nations.
You have no voice.. If you want to prove there is food increase in Nigeria then you have to point to reputable sources that track this information.

I don't know what you think your data represents but it says yield per hectare. It seems to represent improvement in farming technology more than actual crop production but I might be wrong. But how can USA be telling us how much crop we produced in Nigeria?
Anyways, below are statistics of some crops in Nigeria from statista. You can see for yourself that there's no historical drop in production in the last five years at least so Where's the scarcity claim coming from
Since you trust statistics more... They are not Nigerian websites

But the overall food crop production drops speaks a lot from 1st quarter 3.26% in 2019 to 0.9% 1st Quarter 2023
Is that an increase compared to population growth rate?

Ok. Maybe UN should tell you the price of yams in village markets in Nigeria today.

My grouse is with your claim of food scarcity
You're free to believe whatever fits your agenda
This are some food production in metric tones I got from usda website that track average food production in most countries.

You might not notice that woes this data reveal. From 2015 to 2024 out population has increased massively but food production falls.

Not only that the currency collapses made our food cheaper in Chad, Niger, Cameron and Benin and farmers prefer to sell to those with high currencies than Nigerians

You have asked a very good question. Unfortunately, as good as the question is, it is typical of the average APC supporter to develop selective amnesia in a bid to defend their leaders who promise much and deliver nothing close to their promises.
Let me cast your mind back to border closure 2019. This effectively blocked the free movement of goods from across the border of which rice was the biggest casualty. It is no magic that rice has become the most expensive food item per measure. Before border closure and the audio rice pyramid, a measure of local rice used to go for 300 to 350 depending on quality. At the time Tinubu to over it was over 1500. That was a direct effect of border closure. As local rice rose in demand and price, farmers of other crops also sought to increase price as a balancing act. No farmer will see another making so much from his crops and not want to do likewise.
Is North East the main farming belt in Nigeria? That's the north central! To attribute food insecurity to boko haram is the height of ignorance. Boko Haram was at its peak in 2012/13 and it did not affect food availability so how come when it has been largely contained it is being fingered as the cause of food insecurity?
Let me tell you straight up that Nigeria has always had food insecurity. Most of our food supply is seasonal with rainy season for crops that demand moisture like maize, rice, groundnuts, yam and dry season for other types like okro, pepper, millet etc. But it is usually tempered by imports across the border and private storage from offtakers. Let me cast your mind back to Tinubu's announcement of the release of grains from strategic reserve recently. Where are the grains? Most of Nigeria's silos are empty!! I know one in Badeggi, Niger state that has not been used in years yet it is on FMA's website as part of our strategic grain reserve.
Well I am igbo from South East. I am not APC supporter in fact in the last election I voted for obi.

Please face fact.
1)There is hunger in the land
2) Nigerians are hungry
3) if there is massive food as u claimed food prices will not hike this much.

Mr I too know.
U know much more than UN. who have vast data and trends of everything in Nigeria

UN is not operating any farm in Nigeria that I know of. And I am not wrong. It is you who is assuming that rise in prices is due to food scarcity in your cocoon in the UK. I am on ground and I am telling you that farm markets are selling a tuber of yam between 2200-3000. What about beans? Beans is farmed mostly in the North Central and Southern part of the country. Why is it having rise in price with other foods that come from core North?
Before subsidy removal price was rising not soaring. But subsidy removal just removed the brakes totally. Until Tinubu happened to Nigeria, you could get a wheel barrow filled with yam at 15k to18k. Right now, you can't get it less than 35k.
Another angle is the currency devaluation which has made it unattractive for countries like Niger to bring food across the border into Nigeria, coupled with the recent fracas over the ouster of their President which Nigeria behaved belligerent. Niger Republic used to be a sure plug for food supply in Nigeria before. But with the currency devaluation, they don't see Nigeria as an attractive market
Since u admit that food price was rising no soaring before the subsidy removal then what caused the rising before subsidy removal?
So you know more than UN who have personel on group on humanitarian camps scattered across North East?

There is a no food security in Nigeria at present and there is short supply of food ..
A perfect example is the tomato and pepper scarcity which people can't afford.
Even the yam you pointed out is expensive and likewise garri.

I was in Nigeria when garri sold for 1700 from 900 earlier on then subsidy was still in place.

While I agree with you that it is not ideal to claim a situation you cannot defend the ask here is NOT for proof of hometie but proof of Purpose.

Probing Purpose cones first before hometies because even if you are worth over 200 million naira and all the people in your village are your parents and siblings...if your purpose isn't strong you will be rejected. Purpose determines the first reason why you should be considered for the admission so it is very strong.

What he can do here is to approach someone who has an IT company let him get a backdated offer of employment letter with the companys letter head for an entry level IT role and back it up with salary payment to your account which you will also print that you work there. At least 2 months salary payment evidence before you apply.

Also include Leave of absence that shows your employer support your study abroad detailing how it is going to help the company and that your job is guaranteed when you return back. This letter must be written by the company HR or MD. That's how to improve your purpose for applying for the course. This is what I have used before that works. I come in peace.

Also be ready for the HR or MD to be emailed in case there will be need to prove.

You're just regurgitating what you hear online without having the facts.
There is no food scarcity in Nigeria. What we have is astronomical price increase. If you want tomato and pepper of 10 baskets today, I'll get it for you as long as you're ready to pay.
It is virtually impossible for all food items to become scarce at the same time. From garri, millet, water melon, bananas which are domestic to yam, rice, beans which are commercial, all food items are very expensive now. Down from the rural areas, an average tuber of yam goes for between 2200-3000 something which used to go for 300-500 before. So imagine what the price will be like when it gets to Lagos or Abuja.
So there's general price increase in Nigeria which is caused by the fuel subsidy removal which has ballooned transport costs and naira devaluation which has ballooned cost of imported goods.
So it's nothing like supply. Cost of goods has increased.
Do you think soo?
Well u might be wrong although subsidy trigger price increases. Note
Before subsidy removal prices was soaring.

Farm produces has decline due to bokoharam cries, herdsmen, non support from government

There is food scarcity in Nigeria due to low yield, food taken out through northern boarders, bokoharam and bandit preventing farmers from going to farm.

If this continues if u like increase wages to 1m... It will only take time for u to buy 1bag if rice for 500k.

Which should look at the supply side... Food production what can be done to increase productivity of food

1) are farmers safe?
2)what equipment has government bought given to farmers
3)what are the policues put in place for them?

Here in the UK.. A day wage is enough to take care of me and my entire family for the month.

I mean a day wage of 137.8 pounds is enough to buy food n stocked and I won't go to market..

Why is that so? Because they have food security.. They farm in commercial quantities etc

Until u increase supply u are only playing
