Muratala Mohammed is from Edo State. The best head of state in Nigerian history. In other words the best president Nigeria has had is an Edo man from Auchi.
Edo is renown for the Benin kingdom and all of our artwork that is glamorized by Europe and the rest of the world. No tribe in Nigeria has had such a renown kingdom admired by the world. Our art is is filled in museums in America and Europe.

No tribe in Nigeria compares to the glory we had. So saying Igbo is more superior makes no sense.

What is protected with copyright is your expression of the idea and not the idea itself. So genres of music do not have copyright. The song in the genre has copyright.

There are multiple copyrights in a song, the words alone have a literary copyright, the rythym/beat/ co.position is the musical work and has a copyright and the sound recording has another.
Each of the copyrights mentioned above could belong to diff pple depending on the circumstance.

Copying of any of these wld be infringment. But afrobeat as a genre of music for instance has no copyright if it did then only Fela or his estate would have the right to do afrobeat. A Nigerian can sing country music without a problem too but if he copies and existing song then a problem can arise.

So for the foreign artists using. Nigerian genres, there is nothing that can be done legally except you can show specific sings they copied.

That’s true you can’t patent a genre. Although they should consider extending patent laws to avoid issues. Or at least they should state where the influences came from

As someone pointed out, Nigeria has no strong patent law. The advantage of that should have propelled us into 21 century by copying European and American technology instead of importing everything we see.

Hey thank you. Whats happening is that the American artists are using Nigerian influences and beats on their songs and not giving the proper credit to the Nigerians. A few American artists have stolen songs ideas from Nigerians like Tiwa Savage.

What I was referring to though was a more general aspect of the Nigerian music being appropriated and not given the credit.
In years to come, this is going to evolve to a new kind of music and all the credit will go to the American artists, whereas it was was actually Nigerian music
