If you want to start off with System Analysis then you could try Object Oriented Systems Analysis and Design Using UML by SImon Bennett, Steve McRobb and Ray Farmer. You would also want to get the Unified Modelling Language User Guide/Reference

Goodluck!

ProgrammingRe: Displaying Images Horizontally With Php by Fayimora(m): 5:43pm On Sep 26, 2011
Just do it with CSS. After displaying ur images with lists, you need to make each element of the list horizontal to the other.

You should have a look at the way horizontal navigation menus are displayed. That's exactly what you need. Try and if you don't get it then come back for help. Also, it wud be nice if you post your code dat doesn't work

ProgrammingRe: Method To Shuffle Cards In C# by Fayimora(m): 10:24pm On Sep 23, 2011
The way i shuffle cards is kinda related to the selection sort algorithm. If you want to scatter, manipulate the way you arrange. . .  Anyways thats just my method.

Am SUPER happy that you actually don't want code! I love working with people like you,  keep it up!

Back on topic, am just going to explain my way. Firstly you have to understand the selection sort. When you do that, come back to read this algorithm.

The algorithm is very easy! Before i explain it in detail, am going to give you the very basic algorithm. Instead of moving the biggest item to the end of the list or beginning(depending on how you are to sort), you take a random element to the end!

Read the selection sort and understand how it works in DETAILS! Then tweak the algorithm to work the way i stated above.

Dont forget that you can tweak something else, doesn't have to be my way! If already know something like the bubble sort, you can also tweak that.

Goodluck!
WebmastersRe: Help How To Design Websites by Fayimora(m): 10:48am On Sep 23, 2011
Firstly, you don't have to go to any school to be a super web designer. It's not like programming, it is a totally different thing. Before you dive into something like that you should make sure you can say yes without any reasonable or unreasonable doubt to:

Are you reasonably good in art?
Do you have a strong passion for design and not just the money?
Do you invent your own design or redesign other works to look better?

There are other questions but those are some of the questions people can't seem to say yes to! So do not think you can become a good we designer in just 2months. It doesn't work out that way!

Firstly, you need to get acquainted with the tools. Talking about photoshop, cinema4d and so on.
Then you have to understand a few concepts, like how images are used, various compressions and blah blah
Then you start practicing!

Yeah it's that simple but with some difficulties.

You cannot become a web designer by reading a book! What you read from a book as a web designer is simply web standards. This is because your designs have to meet up with standards.

Just so you know, a web designer doesn't give shit about code! His job is to design and not develop. Implementing the design is the work of a developer and some designers seem to dive into development after establishing a very strong ground in design!

With regards to how long you have to practice, there is no time frame! It's a continuous process. It never stops.however, if you can practice daily for 6months-1year, you would become a very good designer and you would have to keep practicing to preserve and maintain your skill.  Oh and before I forget, it's gonna eat up a lot from your social life.

Finally, do not forget that you are no designer if all you do is look at sites and copy! Yes you can, no you should look at other sites and then do something different but you should try not to do it all the time because you should be able to create your own abstract designs.

Good luck!

Time?? You could have just said what you wanted to say rather than what you just posted which doesn't make sense. Again, you should stop saying anything about moderating because it has nothing to do with it. When am supposed to moderate, I do it and when I decide to reply a post, I simply reply!!!

On a final note you still haven't given me any reason why you posted this:

WebmastersRe: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by Fayimora(m): 2:09am On Sep 18, 2011
PLEASEEEEEE no one should say anything about the domain name. The domain is definitely going to be Nigeria.gov.ng(if it's successful ). However, during development, the domain name can be anything ranging from 127.0.0.1/piss to fyjdtyn.rthryn.nun.ssry. it really and completely doesn't matter

Putting the cart before the horse isin't going to help here.

Yh my actual question, did you guys plan to contact the current developer of the site? If yes then thats a very very very bad idea. If you want to develop a better site then I assure you that you don't want to even let him know! Am talking from experience so think before you reply this!

The funniest part is that I actually wrote the program incase he wasn't able to meet the deadline. Just wanted him to learn to fend for himself before crying out loud. Anyways it's all good. At least some reasonable people understand.

@ Fayimora
I get your point. First things first before any of us should get our hands dirty with code , i think we should discuss about the features we want to put on the site. Been tempted to spy on other countries sites (eg US, UK, INDIA , JAPAN) but i wont for now.
Lets think of what we can portray about our country, things to pull both nigerians and non-nigerians frequently to this site.
Madam Yawa has a very good idea, but i swear she'd be surprised at the landing point this project would get to. That is, we have to consider show-casing our cultural heritage, our pre-colonial history, wars, oil and gas industry, tourism and not 4getting our grossly untapped ICT sector.
We' ll even need to involve non-developers to this. Seun has to put this on the homepage o.
So, before coding, lets put things down on paper first, lets look at how we can complement our skills and weaknesses to get best results. I know dhtml and dual-core are wonderful programmers (others too o!), but they'll always have different approaches to challenges that comes their way.
Frameworks? MVC? OOP? Procedural?
Never said anything about coding! What I wrote is even far from coding.

instinctg:
@ Yawa & Omni-Potens
Pls also be prepared to settle egoism. The "NA ME SABI PASS YOU SYNDROME"   grin grin grin
This is exactly what I was indirectly trying to say. Only a VCS can handle that! Everybody would make pull requests and THE TEAM would agree on which one to use!

OmniPotens:
@Fayimora
I was only waiting to have the complete number before I talked about the GitHub but since you have said it all then I'll list you there.
Given the fact that Git is only going to help solve problems like "My solution is the best" and also keep track of the code and features blah blah. .  I think you should tell every participant now so they know how to use it before time.

I still havent seen anyone talking about design!

WebmastersRe: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by Fayimora(m): 10:41pm On Sep 15, 2011
Too many programmers, cant see anyone saying anything about design! Anyways I can help co-ordinate the project! Am not your project manager so let me explain what i would do for y'all. There are 20 programmers/designers here. Each one of them would have their own views(code or way of implementing something). You don't want to ignore someone's ideas and thats where a VCS(Version Control System) comes in.

Am very sure most of you(no offence) code without keeping track of your features, code and the rest. You could read a summary of how that works out here. If you allow me to then I could teach yall how to use Git(with a few resources and create some sample projects) and Github aswel. Then it would be easier to work as a team!

Some of you might begin to wonder what you need a VCS for. . . wait until you understand it then you should ask yourself that question!
