Well comparing Java with PHP is kinda rather ridiculous like you said. If you then boil down to JSP/JSF then they are still different things! For you to use JSP/JSF you need a container while with php you dont. To be very honest, I think JSP/JSF is more advanced that PHP. Dont ask why, you would understand when you use both of them. However, people tend to use PHP more often because its free and easier to setup. |
Fayisara? Its Fayimora! Anyways i also cant really help you as you ddnt code it but might help you with some design and user experience tips. --> Firstly, you have too many things on your home page. It discourages people. . --> Secondly, your link is kinda outside your content area. . Thats a bad idea. --> Thirdly there is a problem with your third navigation link, "increase page rank". You should fix that. --> Fourthly, your sidebar is too crowded and you used the same sidebar throughout the whole site, another bad idea. Errrm dont really have time to goo deeper cause am really busy but yeah you can consider the points i mentioned above. . . |
@BOLa. . . . seems you ddnt see what exactly i was trying to point out! However, i can see that elomi did. Firstly, am not a downer and if thers one person that believes in change its me. You should try to understand what someone is doing before making judgement. Now back to ur answers in order. . . Don't tell me why I wouldn't have attended the conference or not. The fact is, a conference was planned which nobody went for and nothing was said about it! You are saying you didn't go because you were at Ibadan. Thats no excuse bro. Absolutely no excuse!!! Do you expect everything to be done where you stay? Now how does that show commitment? Yes I know an association was registered but confirmed by who? Am not saying you should doubt anyone but just read what you wrote and i quote "but software Developers Association was also registered as stated by elomi". Now does that sound right? At least elomi has posted a CAC(whatever is is) which i think people can now use to be sure the association was registered. Well yeah i know you need people to make it work but not withstanding, you still need someone in control. If there is a disagreement, who makes the final call? Lastly, more than a conference? Doesn't seem like that to me. @elomi my pleasure. thanks for understanding what I was trying to point out. @ALL What i did was point out what exactly you guys weren't making clear enough. I talked from a very straight point of view. Also, if there is something I hav learnt about Nigerians, its that they LOVE free things. Well am sorry to say but this is NEVER gonna work out if you still have that mentality in head. You guys need to stop fliping ideas for now and concentrate on what you have. Finally, i dnt think there is a need to stick this topic, I mean it has always been on top. Assuming you guys have taken my advice and allowed elomi to head this thing. This is my next advice and it goes to elomi. Don't wait for anything before you make a decision. All you need do is plan all you can, write all you can and then post it here for approval/opinions. Waiting for everyone to contribute something is a waste of time. Its faster and better if you just do ya thing and then bring it here for everyone to see what you have and make amendments. However, thats just my idea as thats how i work so you can also choose to ignore me and go on the way you currently are. Your choice! |
@OP for the three you mentioned, Java.
Different devices have programming languages they support. Here's a brief list: All Nokia support Java, some support symbian. All BB's support Java but BB has its own language. Android is a language and runs on Android phones. Xcode is a language that runs on iphone. There's also Bada language for samsung. The list is endless, choose the device you want to develop for and learn the language.
--> Symbian is an operating system and not a language! If you are good enough in C++ then you good enough to start developing apps or wateva for the symbianOS. For a nokia phone that supports java, well obviously Java is the key --> Yes the blackberry mobile phone supports Java but it ain't gat some special language. It just has a few extra packages added to the Java API. --> Android is again like Symbian and blackberry, its an OS. However, it supports Java as its main programming languae but i think it somehow supports C/C++(dnt really knw much about developing android apps with c/c++) --> XCode is NEITHER a programming language nor an OS. Its more like an IDE(like netbeans or eclipse). However, you develop and build iOS apps on XCode using the Objective-C language. There are others ways for developing apps for the iOS too like flash. |
Hmm i see ur point. Well i kinda only test when working with Ruby/Ruby on Rails and Java. Those are the only two langs that require testing(my main projects are implemented in either of them). For Java I use JUnit. Ruby i sometimes just test with normal Ruby and other times with RSpec. For Rails, I do a lot of different tests so use different techniques at once(cause i have to do the 3 tests). However, I use the normal inbuilt test technique(assertions and the likes) and other times(when the project kinda large) RSpec automated(cause am a fan of TDD) with Guard or Autotest. |
remoranger:Now just read what you wrote! Tis sad. . .amma leave u here now cause am just wasting my time |
worldbest:Naaa not necessarily. Ruby is currently a language that makes me fee awesome, so i mostly use it for system programming and web(Ruby on Rails). Ruby was developed by one person(popularly known as MATZ) and today its an open source project. Rails was developed by someone(popularly known as DHH) and right now its an open source project of which i even contribute to somehow. The two lead developers of the rails core team are friends of mine(took a while to get them to, havent met physically tho) and you wont believe that they NEVER meet to code! They never meet because they `have` to! And when I asked Aaron Patterson(kinda heading the core team) he asked 2 questions and said something and i quote; "Why do we have to meet? Wats then the point of opensource? As long as opensource is concerned, those that are not the core developers are more important. The users/testers are more important.". He also said that they only meet when a few of them coincidentally go for a conference. If you really wanna meet, then you would rather not call it opensource because you would have to invite all contributors and if i remember the contributors scattered all over the world. So back to what i initially said on this thread. Creating a thread like this is USELESS(no offence to the OP) because its gonna end up being just the way it is! Abandoned. If you have a project in mind that you think its too big for you or you think it can be better with the help of other developers then start something, Make something work and then invite contributors. Thats 'practically' THE ONLY way! Hmm have i said too much? |
Man you gat serious problems! Are you sure you know what you are saying?? You need to do a LOT of reading! HOw can you tell someone to hire a driver because he can't drive. You certainly have forgotten that that driver also didn't know how to drive. You still have a LOT to learn. I advice you shut up and get to work and sto advising people wrongly! Anyways, we are on someone's thread, if you still wanna talk then buzz somewhere else! |
wat do you mean by software ? |
Can't believe your saying all these crap! templates . . .templates. . . templates. . .I now understand why most Nigerian sites are the way they are and most of them look alike! Tis sad! |
What do you mean by your question? I mean most platforms provide ways to write tests. . |
@OP how about you try a shopping cart, I mean like amazon or a booking system say for hotels or flights! |
A point of correction there! I'm not just after money as you have painted it. I havent said anything as rgds money here.I don't think so, How about abbyode:Anyways your game not mine, was just tryna make you realise something you dont even care to see, Ciaoo |
Alrighty, i have read everything on this thread with care and deleted a couple of off topic posts! I must say I have ignored it for a while because I knew it was gonna turn into a chat zone. . . Just a few questions . . . --> For starters, what happened to the first meeting y'all were supposed to hold in January? --> Aside from just registering a domain name, what else has been achieved? --> Who is in control here cause everyone seems to be the leader --> Wats with all the ideas floating around? What gonna be the sole purpose of the conference. I mean what is gonna happen during the conference --> I saw a few posts about topics to be presented(even Design Patterns). Hmmm ok so who are the speakers? |
Its funny what you guys take re-inventing the wheel to mean! You know i could tell you to do something and ask you to make some very specific significant changes! Dont even say you would do it cause I know wat to ask. . In such a situation, what do you do? abbyode:. Really? You think so?? Hmmm well seems to me like you are all about the money! Goodluck anyways, just ignore me. . |
So thats ow you think? Hmmm interesting! Well i have a few but as a matter of fact am going to be laying it out to the wrong person as you are not the developer ![]() |
huh? |
Templates?? Seriously Mehn you guys need to grow up! |
remoranger:COMPLETE BULLSHIT!!! Say something more reasonable. . lol Seriously |
Sounds like you just need me to stick ur topic! Ok amma check it out next week. . . . . .lol |
What do you think you are missing when you ddnt code it from scratch? I mean 98% of the job is already done. not picking on you but ermmm dunno u shud understand |
Moving you to the right section |
Works fine for me! You should know that a ClassNotFoundException cannot possibly be from me, well at least there i a 98% possibility that its from you! That error is a tricky one so you gott be careful! Check the filename and class name for starters. . . since we are using derby te next possible thing i coud think of is if you have added derby.jar or whatever you call it to your classpath. . . See if any of those help! |
luzoma:One thing i cannot just stop complementing is how neat your site is. Havent seen such a neat site on NL before SUPER KUDOS! |
hmmmm I have something to say but i think i would reserve my comment! |
Hahahahahhaa when its comes to a group project on nairaland, forget it! |
Its Fayimora and dont worry, am here to help you, we are all here to help you! |
abbyode:Well you are probably in the wrong place because i cant remember seeing a developer that would prefer not writing codes! |
chillaz:Lets just say you can ask me anything! Dont wanna start listing Am mostly in the Programming section though. . . |
Cool welcome. Why you asking about ASP? Do you need some help? If yes then it would be better if you just post your difficulty and someone would definitely help ya. You alone(i mean female) with those languages!!! Impressive. @remoranger hmmmm |
