The tactics was right, remember I have always been an Amodu critic. This was our best match. Even CIV did not peg Ghana the way we did. One a luckier day we could have beating Ghana by 3 clear goals. From the start of the game , the tempo was wholly dictated by SE. The goal was Nwaneri's flaw and I was telling my broda that we should not just drop him from the team but even alert SA to put him on their watch list and not allow him into SA during the competition. He should watch the matches on TV . On mikel if with the slow speed and all the flaws you mentioned , he could still give some 4 killer passes that could have finished Ghana off with better finishing , then i dont seem to understand you. Okocha was not very good at releasing players the way mikel effortlessly does. In the first match , his value only came to the fore after he was pulled out by Amodu. In the second match CAF named him MOTM. In the third and fouth matches he was definitely above average. Yesterday he was brilliant. so what are we talking about? On the list of players you mentioned to be tried b4 WC , I think with the short time left , that will be all work with little result. Amodu's biggest problem by my reckoning is how he ranks players. How did he rank Nwanneri higher than Adeleye. what does he look at? Odiah played for just about ten minutes yesterday , and it is glaring that only a buffon would have ranked him higher than Adefemi. Amodu will just invite all these players make them train but since he is inadequately skilled to appraise player skills rightly, the exercise will yeild no result. Amodu should just leave. For those saying that this was Ghana's U-21 side hence we had to beat them, we must understand first that it is not wholly true. Gyan, sappei, asemoah, dramman, anthony annan are first team players. Even Abedi's son was a key member of the Ghana team in CAN 2008. Yes they drafted some u-21 players into the team after some first team players got injured , but they are the best Ghana has to offer for now. The u-21 boys are playing their lives out to impress the coach for a WC SLOT. There is no Guarantee anywhere that this current team would not hold their own even against the established Ghana first team with the Essiens of this world . Remember they beat the impressive ANGOLAN side. Amodu has kept his record of not beating any top African team in a competitive match intact. We luckily managed draws against tunisia on two occasions and lost to Egypt and Ghana. we will see how they fare against algeria.
CIV beat Ghana 3-1 even with 10 men because Ghana tried to play an all out attack. They learnt their lessons and decided to go on the defensive with us. Amodu knew this (at least according to Osaze's comments) but yet with one striker. It looked as if this was our best performance but in reality, Ghana offered next to nothing. They were just ok with soaking up the pressure which they did well. Our best performance in this tourney was a 30 mins spell against Egypt capped with a beautiful goal. We simply scaled through other matches. For me, I still don't want to believe that these set of players are the best in Nigeria. That is definitely NOT true. That Ayew was a key member of the CAN 2008 is no excuse not to beat them. They are still a very youthful side. At least 5 players are from the U-21 squad whereas we had "big" name players on the pitch. No we have no excuse not to beat them. As for Sir Amodu's record, well the SE also lost to Egypt for the first time in 48 years. |
ritchboy:Point is, you were there and for less than 4 days. What we call briefly. ![]() Quit smelling that stuff. Puke-meth. ![]() |
Can we quietly or loudly assume that the Bronze Medal is a certainty? . . .Let's go there. . . |
YOUTH CUP REPORT: CHELSEA 1 PORTSMOUTH 0 A dominant Academy side progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup this evening by beating Portsmouth thanks to a Conor Clifford goal. In front of an impressive crowd at Stamford Bridge, the youth team produced a strong performance to overcome a sturdy Portsmouth side in difficult conditions in west London. As the rain poured down, Clifford and Josh McEachran's performances stood out in what was a strong team display all round. Chelsea came into this game on the back of a 4-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest in the fourth round. Before that came a 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic. Portsmouth meanwhile had secured two 1-0 wins in the previous rounds. The first came against Huddersfield while their fourth round win was against Tottenham. Captained once again by Clifford, Chelsea's starting line-up was unchanged from the one which faced Forest apart from the absence of Jeffrey Bruma, who was replaced by Billy Knott in the back line. Knott played left-back with Aziz Deen-Conteh moving into the centre. Chelsea (4-3-3): Sam Walker; Billy Clifford, Daniel Pappoe, Aziz Deen-Conteh, Billy Knott; Conor Clifford (c), Josh McEachran; Kaby Djalo; Jacopo Sala, Marko Mitrovic, Gokhan Tore. http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~1948271,00.html |
There is no one like YOU. Dear Lord. |
UP JWT. Show them some Ali skills. ![]() |
Uche2nna:GBAM!!! Same 3 questions I asked him. . .no answers as yet. |
Dr Kit, my bad, but did you just say he should have started with Yak only because Martins could have come off the bench to score? Oh no you didn't say that or did you? ![]() I tried to see reason in that Martins could do a "Sani Emmanuel" but heck why not start with Kanu or even with one of the goalkeepers then? Believe you me, it wont make any difference. @Semid4lyfe, your post in full of contradictions. According to your post:- A coach with zero tactics, pathetic selection and negative take on home based players should take us to the world cup? hmm. . .do you expect him to change overnight? ![]() It is common knowlegde that he is NOT going to work with Sia1 except you know something that we don't. By the way Moi thinks the ref (Algeria vs Egypt) was rubbish. |
samstels:Honestly, I think you nailed it. Brilliant summary at least most part of your post. But to add mine. We've all said it times without number, if na by force to hire a Nigerian as a coach, no wahala. . .May we suggest Siasia (agreed he got his CV dented with the U-21 fiasco)? since the two coaches (Sir Amodu and Siasia) cannot work together one defo must give way. @Semid4lyfe, I think you are contradicting yourself. How can a coach which you claim - used wrong tactics in most of our matches - selected from ALL indications the wrong set of players - a coach with a negative take on home based players? change over night? Pray tell us how? Will/can he work with Sia1? |
In this age and time? I guess their allah is asleep and does not have time for such silly requests. What a country!!! God help us. @becomerich, keep it coming. Some classic stuff right there. ![]() |
^^^ I'm just wondering why players from both teams spend more time rolling on the pitch than actually playing? Meanwhile its ALG 0 - 2 Egypt Algeria reduced to 9 men. Some 20 mins to go. |
chic2pimp:Who exactly is supposed to give him (or search for) these "better" players you are talking about? You, NFF, NL members or Sir Amodu himself? ![]() You seems to forget that he made this current selection of players. As far as he (Sir Amodu) is concerned, they are the best. |
Meanwhile. . . Egypt 1 - 0 Algeria End of first half. Algeria reduced to 10 men. |
Eastbay:Thank you Eastbay and this has always been my point. The coach that selected them has a part to play (he defo should shoulder some if not most of the blame) Same goes to the players who failed to live up to expectation. |
God bless you. Infact for me it is the Spontaneity of those passes that i admire. Whenever he seems to be romancing the ball, he has one eye watching the movement of the atackers so that he can release the killer pass. See how he created something out of almost nothing for Obafemi against zambia in the dying minutes of ET. People have simply conditioned their minds never to see anything good in the young man.
You are spot on but I think the problem is people are stuck in their brains with the images of Mikel of 2005. |
