@ DK, I ask you, how many runs did TT make yesterday?
How did Ayila and Etuhu contribute? Please I want to know?
Yak, Uche, Yusuf, Yobo, Nwaneri - just what did they do on the pitch after 30 mins?

MOTM - Obasi and I'm sure no one will contest that. We all unlike you say it as it is. keep blabbing about hero worshipping there. grin

RESERVE REPORT: CELTIC 5 CHELSEA 3

Chelsea's reserves were beaten 5-3 away at Celtic on Monday in the first of two friendlies against the Scottish club.
In a game watched by Carlo Ancelotti and Ray Wilkins, both defences struggled to cope with the creativity of the opposition, and there were plenty of chances on a snowy Parkhead afternoon.
Conor Clifford had given Chelsea the lead in the first half, curling home into the corner after a build-up of 15 passes, yet poor defending proved costly and we went in 3-1 down against a Celtic side featuring five first-team players, and coached by Neil Lennon.
At 5-1 down in the second half, we pulled two goals back, the first when Gael Kakuta hit a left-footed volley in from the edge of the box after a corner, and then Josh McEachran made a run in behind and after his initial shot was saved by the goalkeeper, he cleverly lifted the ball over him and in to make the scoreline more respectable ahead of the second leg.
These games are designed to let the players get to grips with a European-style tie, and although no date has yet been arranged for the return fixture at Stamford Bridge, reserve coach Steve Holland is hoping it will be sooner rather than later.
'It was a really good game of football with both teams playing some good stuff, and neither defence could cope with the other's attack,' he said. 'It was an open, attacking game, with some disappointments and some pluses.'
Chelsea: Jan Sebek (sub Nic Heimann); Nikki Ahamed (sub Billy Clifford), Jeffrey Bruma, Carl Magnay (sub Kenny Strickland), Ben Gordon, Nemanja Matic, Jacopo Sala, Conor Clifford (sub Daniel Philliskirk), Fabio Borini, Gael Kakuta, Josh McEachran.
Celtic: Cervi (sub Giordano), Caddis, Thompson, Lafferty, Wilson, McGinn (sub Riley), Flood (sub Towell, Zheng, Carey, Forrest, McGowan

You are more than clueless. Take the stunners off your eyes and then watch the match again.

Can't even believe any sane person will say Taiwo was faultless yesterday? Who is talking about the deflection off his a.s.s?
How many threats did he provide yesterday? NONE!!!
So if he did not provide any threat going forward and he certainly did not defend well, what the bang was he doing on the bleeding pitch? undecided

^^^ Did you also see this goal.com? Any sane person will ask the same question why was he taken off? For Kanu?  shocked pluzzzzzzzzzz!!! Wetin Osaze dey bench for?

Mikel: 7 - Why was he taken off? Nigeria's most capable playmaker was withdrawn despite being the only midfielder responsible enough to take hold of the ball and try to make something happen. Needs to brush up on his pass selection but the Super Eagles are a better side with him, rather than without.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/815/african-nations-cup/2010/01/12/1740803/africa-cup-of-nations-player-ratings-egypt-3-1-nigeria

No one is hero worshipping no baga. Mikel needs to STEP UP. I have always said that but don't ever say he was the worst player on the pitch. That is very wrong from all angles.

How many runs did Taiwo make yesterday? None!!! if you don't count the lame effort of a shot straight at the keeper. TT is no Carlos so forget it.

You are drunk with your hatred for England and any player playing in the EPL so no need arguing with you. You are a nazi and as such wouldn't expect you to be objective.

Never knew I would say this, but he was ZERO yesterday.
He should be benched for the next match.

An who is kickoff magazine to start with?

John Mikel Obi 6
Did not quite take charge of the offensive midfield position, but still shouldn’t have been subbed.

Doesnt that statement tell you the writer is a retard? Someone whom you wrote didnt do his duties but in the same sentence shouldnt have been removed.
Mikel was on the field for 79 minutes, what positive contribution did he make. Or you believe by some stroke of Haitian Voodoo he would conjure up something in the last 10 minutes aside from his usual backpasses?
Ha I see, goal.com is better abi or you want stats from soccernet.com? How different are they?
Tell me how Etuhu and Ayila contributed?
Of the 3 DMs we played , Mikel was miles above them. Except  maybe you watched a different match.
He made 3 - 4 super passes that the strikers could not convert. A single chance was/is enough to score a goal, abi no be so?
I'm not defending Mikel per say (we all expect more from him especially with his passes), but saying he was the worst player on the pitch is talking crap. And who was the sub- Kanu? Can you tell us what Amodu was trying to do?
Taiwo IMO should be benched for the next match. His left back position was our weakest point!! Plus no one was there to cover his a.s.s.

From goal.com

Mikel: 7 - Why was he taken off? Nigeria's most capable playmaker was withdrawn despite being the only midfielder responsible enough to take hold of the ball and try to make something happen. Needs to brush up on his pass selection but the Super Eagles are a better side with him, rather than without.

dayokanu:
The only sensible thing Amodu did yesterday was to remove Mikel.
Mikel was completely clueless for 79 minutes and he was supposed to be the playmaker.
Fom the last Olympics where Siasia dropped Mikel it became obvious that any serious coach wouldnt play Mikel with his backpasses.
Its better to play with 10 players than have Mikel on the field.
Sometimes I wonder how people watch football.  undecided

SUPER EAGLES PLAYER RATINGS

Vincent Enyeama 7
Exposed over and over by his defence. Had to come out for that ball with his defenders nowhere to be found.

Yusuf Mohammed 4
Continually lost his man and was under pressure for most of the game.

Taye Taiwo 5
Strong defensively, when he stayed home to defend. Got caught when he advanced and was slow to track back.

Joseph Yobo 6
Kept his composure and held his own against Zidan, but should have organised his defence better.

Obinna Nwaneri 5
Tried too hard to cover for Taiwo and was left out of position on too many occasions.

Yusuf Ayila 6
Strong in the tackle, full of running, kept it simple.

Dickson Etuhu 6
Silently covered plenty of ground, but could have done more to cover for Taiwo.

John Mikel Obi 6
Did not quite take charge of the offensive midfield position, but still shouldn’t have been subbed.

Chinedu Obasi 8
Star of the show, and not just for his goal. Ran rings around Moawad and his defending was the reason Mohammed was not exposed more at right-back.

Kalu Uche 5
Missed three glorious opportunities that could have sealed the game for Nigeria. Offered no defensive cover for his fullback. Would have been a four but for the assist he gave to Obasi for the goal.

Yakubu Ayegbeni 3
Offered little.

Obinna Nsofor 4
Came on and tried to run at the defence, but it didn’t quite fall for him

Kanu 3
No time for him to warm himself into the game to make a difference.

Shuaibu Amodu 4
It could all have been so different. All he had to do was take out the ineffectual Yakubu at the midway point and get on Nsofor earlier. And how do you explain taking off Mikel for Kanu?

Except we buy a replacement this window then I'm afraid Chelsea FC will have no option but to back down.

@ topic,

The issue of lack of passion and determination among our players has been flogged time and time over on NL's sports board. Unfortunately though we are yet to see the changes. Do we as a team and Nation expect to be doing the same thing continuously but expect a different result? Amodu and the players should wake up.

They got tired after a brilliant 20-30 mins.

Too early to judge them boys though. We are late starters in competitions. The Next match (or 2 matches) will decide.

FBS he was referring to their psyche which more like most of the present players born abroad in the eagles of today.
my interpretation, i may be wrong cheesy
Yeah I know what he is talking about.  cheesy
But I disagree with such a stand.

Ibime:
Bruv, Yekini and Amuneke grew up in a period where there was dignity in hard work. . . . nowadays, our society has gone to pieces. . .

FFS, guys like Adepoju had discipline to play any position required of him.

Amuneke worked the flanks, up and down. . . and so did Finidi.

These boys grew up in a decent society, not like the Harunas we have nowadays.
I take Stamford Bridge beg you, don't ever mention Haruna on NL again. grin

True the mentioned players worked liked their lives depended on it and it is by no mistake we regard them as heroes today.
Amodu simply needed to include some local players in the squad and name one of them captain.
No I'm not joking.

He should be imposing himself in Africa. Mikel is a Chelsea player but you cannot see the Chelsea in him.
Have you seen Essien playing for Ghana?

Rotten luck. grin
I will not disagree with you but remember he is no longer the creative player we all knew back in 2005.
Essien is called the BIZZON and that means a LOT. I will advise you NOT to compare them.

Osaze hopefully should be fit for the next match.
What formation did we play?
I saw 3 strikers upfront with Mikel pissing around the midfield and holding the ball longer than necessary.
In the 2nd half, the Egyptians outnumbered us in the midfield and they had a live-wire striker in Zidan who gave our back four HELL.
Where was Osaze?
True Mikel was not too good but was way better than his co DMs IMO.
Question is why play with 3 DMs?

Osaze I heard had  sore throat in Durban.

Ladies and Gentlemen it ain't over yet and if I may add, you have just witnessed history. We lost to Egypt for the first time in 47 YEARS!!!

This is the best SE team in a decade. No, seriously. No kidding.  cool
They played a wonderful first half (erm 33 mins to be precise) and later got tired. Please don't blame them. The temperature in Angola is high and the price of fuel has also increased.

Our defense marshaled by the able Yobo was so tight it was very hard for the opponent to infiltrate. Forget three goals conceeded for it does not matter.

Our left back position was so effective Taiwo deserves an award.

Our midfield so efficient we played with 3 DMs at a go. Little wonder the most effective of them was taken off for a pair of old legs. No offense to Kanu. He is one of my favourite Nigerian Players.

Our hitman Yakubu was the best player of the pitch so much so he touched the ball only 5 times. Someone said he is out of form and shape. Sorry but I disagree. He is the best we have.

Conclusion: We have the best coach in the world. Thank You Shaibu Amodu.

PS: I love my country and will continue to support and defend its colors.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria can still win this cup!!!
