Chelsea Keeping Tabs On Everton's Marouane Fellaini - Father Marouane Fellaini's father has proclaimed that Chelsea are following the Everton star after his stellar performances in recent times. The midfielder has been in scorching form of late, earning plaudits all round. And his father, Abdel Latif Fellaini, reckons that the league leaders are keeping tabs on his son. "He's been voted man of the match three times in his last five games," Fellaini Snr is quoted by the News of the World as saying. "It makes no difference to him as he has got his feet on the ground. "The big clubs see that he is doing well. So he is very closely followed by Chelsea. http://goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/01/12/1739972/chelsea-keeping-tabs-on-evertons-marouane-fellaini-father |

Yes I agree with you that it is more than a "new" manager's luck but defo it's one of the deciding factors. We have seen this before. If they continue this way then a TOP FOUR position is guaranteed. I'm checking out Micah Richard's goal. . .FANTASTIC! What a run by the lad. |

Maybe Patrick Vieira was being serious when he declared that Manchester City were still prominently involved in the title race. They have won five games in succession now to clamber above Tottenham Hotspur into the fourth Champions League qualification place on the back of Roberto Mancini's appointment and with Carlos Tevez, on current form, the most prolific striker in the business. Tevez's hat-trick takes his total to 15 goals in 21 starts since his defection from Manchester United and the striker was oozing confidence on a night when Micah Richards scored the goal of his life. The only downside for Mancini came in the form of the first goal his side have conceded in the four games since he took over from Mark Hughes. Morten Gamst Pedersen's left-foot shot prompted a brief flurry from the visitors but the margin of victory did not flatter City and, even if the seven-point gap to Chelsea looks a considerable divide, there is the unmistakable sense of a side playing with renewed vigour and optimism. They have a striker who seems determined to show that Sir Alex Ferguson was wrong to demean him as not worth the £25.5m City paid to recruit him. Tevez collected the club's player-of-the-month award before kick-off and City's supporters must hope he can maintain this form when his former employers visit in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final next Tuesday. The Argentina international has now scored as many times as Wayne Rooney this season, despite playing one game less, and has more than Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen put together. Afterwards Mancini described Tevez as one of the 10 best players in Europe and revealed he had tried to sign him when he was managing Internazionale. "He played very well," he said. "You know Carlos; that is what he does. But I think all the team helped him. We aren't looking at the table yet but I am seeing a lot of improvements." http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/11/carlos-tevez-manchester-city-blackburn-rovers ---------------- I expect Citeh to ride their luck on the back of Mancini (as per new manager) for a few more matches. Anything can happen after that. |

Ivory Coast 0-0 Burkina Faso Tournament favourites Ivory Coast were left ruing missed opportunities as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Burkina Faso in Group B. Emmanuel Kone missed several chances as the Ivorians, who had an early penalty appeal turned down, dominated the game throughout. The best chance came in the 68th minute when Kone dragged an easy chance wide. It means the Ivory Coast may now need a win against Ghana if they are to progress past the group stages. Burkina Faso defended deeply for much of the game, only venturing forward on the counter-attack, and failed to register a shot on goal in the first half. Their only chance in the first period arose from a committed run and cross from Jonathan Pitroipa - but the ball was scrambled out of harm's way by the Ivorian defence. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/8452028.stm Next Match: Ivory Coast vs Ghana --- 15 Jan 2010 7:30 PM |
Malawi 3-0 Algeria Underdogs Malawi shocked fancied Algeria, thumping them 3-0 in a poorly-attended game in Luanda. Russel Mwafulirwa capitalised on a defensive mix-up on 17 minutes, lashing home from a tight angle. Elvis Kafoteka then powered in a header to finish off a smart move from the Malawians on the left. David Banda took advantage of another defensive mix-up in the second half to roll the ball past Algerian goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi. The vast number of empty seats was in complete contrast with Sunday night's opening game at the 11 November Stadium, when the tournament got off to a memorable start as Angola and Mali drew 4-4. However, Malawi defied their status as rank outsiders by going 3-0 up inside 50 minutes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/8451809.stm |
