Roy Keane has lambasted the Republic of Ireland's attempts to get their controversial World Cup play-off match against France replayed.
The Republic appealed to Fifa after their 2-1 aggregate defeat by France on the basis that the winning goal came after a blatant Thierry Henry handball.

But Ipswich boss Keane said: "They can complain all they want but France are going to the World Cup - get over it.

"France were there for the taking and Ireland didn't do it. Same old story."

The Irishman, who made 65 appearances for the Republic as a player, continued: "If I'd been there in the dressing room after the game, I wouldn't be talking about the handball. I'd focus on why the defenders didn't clear it. They should've cleared it.

"I'd be more annoyed with my defenders and my goalkeeper than Thierry Henry. How can you let the ball bounce in your six-yard box? How can you let Thierry Henry get goal-side of you? If the ball goes into the six-yard box, where the hell is my goalkeeper?

"These are skills and lessons you learn as a schoolboy.

"Ireland had their chances in the two games and they never took them. They had chances at Croke Park (in the first leg) and they had chances on Wednesday.

"They didn't take them, but it's the usual FAI (Football Association of Ireland) reaction - 'we've been robbed, the honesty of the game, ' It's rubbish."

And Keane pointed out that controversial decisions went Ireland's way in the qualifying campaign, not least a harsh penalty award against Georgia which helped them to clinch a 2-1 qualifying win in February.

"There was one match against Georgia where Ireland got a penalty and it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen which changed the whole course of the game.
"I don't remember the FAI after the game saying we should give them a replay."

Keane's antipathy towards the FAI stems back to the Pacific island of Saipan in 2002 when he left the team's pre-World Cup training camp, complaining that the facilities were sub-standard.

Despite the efforts of the media, Keane and manager Mick McCarthy failed to resolve the conflict and Keane missed the World Cup.

Don't make me stop deliberating with you, we are talking about nlders looking for a foreign coach, you are here bringing in nff, even the chairman of nff said he won't go for any foreign coach so what are you talking about? search through nairaland, you will find posters clamoring for a foreign coach (including you indirectly  tongue). Russia is 12th in the world, that means they are better than us, if we were higher than them before means they have been doing well, so why then didn't they qualify for the world cup even with Guus at the helm of affair?  so are you trying to tell me that what guus has achieved, no other black coach has achieved? (national wide).
Well you can stop deliberating with me for all I care. I'm not here because of you and neither are you here because of me. It's free world dude.  tongue  grin
True russia are ranked 12th but that does NOT mean that they are better than us. FIFA are a pile of self-service and I can't trust them with 10meter pole. Forget the rankings and talk about what you see on the pitch, ok?
How many times in the last 3 years have you watched russia play?  undecided
I'm disgusted you brought this "black" & "white" thing into fray again (stop feeling inferior)  but to answer your question, how many "successful "black" coaches do you know that are on world stage? How many of them manage international clubs or foreign countries?

I am not saying i love the way we are playing (presently) but what i like is that he's doing his NUMBER ONE JOB (TO WIN) and he's doing that well. scouting for players is what he should do and then look for a better play pattern which i believe can only be gotten if he's allowed to keep the super eagle's job. thank God we have the nations cup ahead. he's capable of using that to show us the progress he's able to make by doing all these things you and i want him to do.
You don't like the way we play, you agree that fresher and better players are needed yet you are talking banana?
Amodu needs help and that is a FACT. He cannot do it alone. I even suggested that he work with Sia1 but was told that the two cannot work together. So what do we do? Send him for a coaching course? Where? In Nigeria or to a foreign land? Answer me!!!

On current form, can you boastfully say Nigeria has better players than Russia? you might not know them and their various clubs by heart but just try to look them up and try to see how (competent) they are in their various club-sites compared to the Nigerian side.
I can tell you for a FACT that I know ALL the players in the russian squad and ALL bar NONE are starters for their respective clubs.
Zhirkov - Just switched to Chelsea and was injured but prior to that was sure banker for CSKA.
Pavluchenko - was a regular for Spartak before moving to Spurs.
Those are the two you may say aren't starters for real.
That we are parading bench warmers ain't no proof that the russians are better. I'm telling you that our U-17 will beat the f.uck out of them.  grin

if you claim that you don't want Amodu to go, then why are you against him? criticism varies, if you want him to stay but improve, you should always let them show in your posting and not try to pay lip services when addressing his case.
Lips shekini? are you drunk or what?

NOW I WANT YOU TO ANSWER THIS, DO YOU WANT AMODU AS THE SUPER EAGLE'S HEAD-COACH TO THE NATION'S CUP AND WORLD CUP? please be reminded that no but, just a yes or no answer to this particular question.
To the Nations Cup, YES!
To the World Cup? This should be based on his performance in the Nations Cup.

Russia is now a team of less than average players abi? now tell me, compare their players and our players, then tell me if they don't beat ours (club performances level) how many of our players control regular shirt in their various clubs compared to the Russian team? who's ranked higher by fifa, Nigeria or Russia? please, i don't want to continue.
I laugh in Nokia.  grin  grin  grin
Who are the "they" looking for a foreign coach, me or NFF?  undecided
NL never disappoints, honestly! (wait let me laugh again, and this time in Samsung).  cheesy

F.cuk FIFA and their ranking but if you must know we were once the 5th best nation in the world.
And as at the beginning of 08 Nigeria was ranked 19th, russia -24th.
Do  you want me to show you the fifa table?
To be honest with you, not that I care about the ranking but heck, Nigerians have better players than russia. Boy, don't even go there!!!

I don't know why you are shifting post all the time- Where on here did you see me say Amodu must go? undecided

As regards Hiddink well he is a good coach and anyone will tell you this. He has achieved not because of the color of his skin but because of his records.

But wait, let me ask you something. Do you like the way we play?
Do you agree that Amodu could do his job better by scouting for players even in our local league?

Of course I got you there pants down!   tongue  grin  grin  grin And the reason is because you fail most times to see thing the way other people do.

And by the way, I think you also missed CIV, no?  cheesy

All coaches require time to get the result needed. Some need more time than others. That said, I still maintain that coaching a national team is different from managing a club. I don't have the time now to break it down for you.

We will give Amodu time because well, he qualified us for the 2010 WC and he WILL take them boys to the ANC.
After that, we shall discuss.

Meanwhile, Guus is still leading in the polls.  cheesy grin

As a side note I would like to see Wenger take over France one day though and Mourinho coach Portugal, Sir Alex take over scotland while Pep G, take over Spain and Hiddink take over Holland. Ancelotti take over Italy and Scolari return to Brazil and see who comes out on top at the end of the world cup.

FBS, stop 'bandying' and throwing words around. How many foreign 'world class' coaches are black? Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Jean Tigana, Paul Ince* and who else? When last did any of these people coach a decent side? The fact is Foreign Coach = White.
Amodu qualified us with an almost excellent record and you're still here calling for a foreign coach. Shame on you!
Shey for Exam, 9/12 no be pass? - Person play 12 matches, win 9, draw 3 and una still wan sack am becos una no like em style of play? No be na wa, na real wa for una.
The same Russia that you say is made up of below-average players coached by Guus Hiddink is the same team that beat star-studded teams like Sweden and Holland & now they suddenly cannot beat a 'starless' Slovenia with their world class coach? This your logic no just make sense.
All of una calling for foreign coach go FAIL.
AMODU SHUAIBU MUST TAKE US TO SA 2010.
@Semid4lyfe,
My friend stop talking nonsense abi you shack gbana?!  grin where did you see me call for a foreign "white" coach? I said a good coach and it doesn't matter if he is from space or Guinea conakry.  The Frank Rijkaard you mentioned is Dutch- What is my business with the color of his skin? Open up your mind bro.

Now let me try to break it down for you.
russia is I repeat NOT a brilliant side. Their greatest achievement in modern times is a semifinal berth at the Euros. Now, I can tell you for a fact that, they wouldn't have reached that stage if NOT for GUUS!

Yes and truely, they failed to beat Slovenia (need I remind you that have one of the best defensive record in the WCQ?). Sh!t happens, just as Greece won The Euros. Who would have thought that would happen? Now its no suprise that their coach Otto Rehaggel has a job for LIFE! Now tell me, why didn't the Greeks hire a Greek as coach?

The point is, they wanted success and they went for the "best". It does not matter if he was German or Greek. That is the bigger picture. That there are no (as you put it) "black" big time coaches is a different subject entirely and that is not down to me to break it down for you. Hiring a coach is not a political position- You don't get elected but appointed.

The Switzerland that won the U-17, can you tell me how many of them are truely "Swizz"? Did you see their last names? What does that tell you? It doesn't matter where you are from? If you can deliver the desired result then by all means, GO FOR IT!

Amodu needs help and that my dear is a FACT! Ask anyone or do you want to tell me that you like the way we are playing? Come off it dude, get your head out of the sand.

Let Amodu take them boys to the ANC first. His achievements will determine what will happen next!
More importantly, he should select TOP NIGERIAN players from every corner of the world who are starters for their clubs. Why the over reliance on European based players?

If you are introducing a new technology, then use it to the fullest!

Extra refs may do just fine, at least for now! Think about the cost to some not very "wealthy" nations.
Did you see the "cardboards" used in our match against Kenya?

However I like the way this is going but I was thinking what would have happened if an African country was involved? Will it generate all this noise?

Heck, why is Mr Platini & Blatter still quiet? I'm sure they should have something to say, no?

When I say worship, I mean coach, not country

We are in the same boat as per allegiance of country. I don't support any stupid Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal blah blah blah.
Very different. I support Chelsea and there is a reason for that. Believe me, it has nothing to do with England. When I go to the matches, I sometimes forget say na England becos aside the location and crowd there is nothing England there. I go there to watch football. I mean what is going on on the pitch to be precise.
My allegiance is to my country. FINITO!

I bet most of you use club success to justify the pedigree of coaches to take over from Amodu in a country role.
I bet most of you can't see things differently from others and we don't all think the same way.

How many countries are playing like Spain?

Brazil? Argentina? CIV? Ghana? England? Netherlands?

So who the hell is Nigeria for you to demand that is how we play.

That said, Nigeria has the second best qualifying stats after Spain.
Who is Nigeria? We are the GIANT of AFRICA!  cheesy And we have every right to aspire to play the best attacking football in the world. Who is the magga that says we can't? It ain't no crime.

Best Qualifying stats? Are you serious? The UEFA zone played more matches innit?
Germany scored 26 goals and conceded only 5 in 10 matches. 8 wins and 2 Draws.
Ivory Coast scored 19 and conceded 4 with just 1 draw in 6 matches
Nigeria scored 9 goals and conceded 4 with 3 wins and 3 draws in 6 matches
Spain scored a massive 30 GOALS and LOST NONE in 10 matches.

How is it now that Nigeria has the second best stat after spain or are you talking about another WCQ or tourney?

Concerning Mou, Club Football I repeat is different from National games -
- Players are of nearly the same mentality due to their nationality thus the approach is different;
- You have fewer games to prove yourself when managing a national team;
- Club football is MONEY, National game is PRIDE!
- In Club football many factors come into play and you will see that even some players perform better for their clubs than for country.
- LFS is a World Cup Champion but got sacked from Chelsea. That speaks volume.

Calling MU, Arsenal stupid because you don't support them is nonsense and smacks of arrogance. No basis for that.

Which Mourinho are you referring to?

Jose?

You mean the one that can not beat Anorthosis, Rubin Kazan, Panathinaikos, Werder Bremen and Dynamo Kiev with a team like Inter?

Where are the tactics you are talking about that he cannot beat this minnows?

Now tell me, if that was Amodu that could not do that, would you say he should keep his job?

Let me remind you of the players in Inter: Lúcio, Eto'o, Ibrahimovic (then), Muntari, Stanković, Júlio César, Córdoba, Zanetti, Quaresma, Sneijder, Vieira e don do? Abi you wan make I go on?
I think he beat Dinamo Kiev, no?  and away for that matter cheesy
Besides, I think managing a Club is different from National teams. The two should NOT be compared.

As long as they are not conceding goals and they are scoring more than their opponents, to me, they have started playing. That is what Amodu has done (to my surprise!).

For some reason, some of you just dream of some attacking football where we keep on bombarding the oppositions goal like if you are still in the 80s. You think they too are not developing their game? Why do you think Italy will struggle with Cyprus?

If you want that kind of attacking football, when the opposition arrives, run to the village, buy some aluminium pans (11 of them), buy a bag of groundnuts and encourage them to put it on their head. tongue grin So we know they came to sell groundnut.

England with their stars and world class coach don't play anything that excites me, don't have a certain pattern but they get results and you all worship them.
You know its disgusting when you say "some of you". I for one don't worship or support any other country except Nigeria and as such supported the boys from the beginning to the END!. And that is also why you saw me fighting tooth and nail for the U-17 (that's an expired topic now). I don't care who is playing as long as he is playing for NIGERIA and he better be good.
I don't see myself rooting for any other nation at the WC. Nah, not me.

If you are talking club football then that is a different thing and to which I believe you will agree.

Now, talking attacking footie. Spain play attacking footie from start to finish. Tell me, why can't we do same or even better?
Yes they need time to adapt though sometimes, attacking is NOT always the only solution. One has to adapt and study the opponent, but even when you are defending, you defend with CLASS! (Slovenia and Algeria of last night comes to my mind).

Frankly speaking, anyone wearing that jersey should know that this is WAR and not a child's play anymore. The boys lack that passion for the country (bar Osaze) and heck, someone has to instill this into them.

We can play better and we have the talent.  That is a FACT!!!

How much time do they need? Can Amodu do the job?

I would rather say, the game against France was the BEST and not because we won, but because of the way the played.
Other games, were bad. Very bad but getting the desired results is what matters and that I fully understand.
The last home match- The boys only started to play in the last 10 mins which brought us the goal.

As for the ref, honestly I'm convinced he missed it. He controlled the match well, even when France appealed for a penalty which kinda looked legitimate. The linesman? well, he could have missed it too.

This is why extra refs are necessary. Place two behind each goal on each side and they would have spotted it.

My qualms is why neither FIFA and UEFA are yet to say a word on this. Even the official match report did not mention it. Shameful. They clearly know what they are doing.

I can't see any post from any NL member asking for a "white" coach.

I speak for no one but I don't think skin-worshipping is still in vogue. Get it out of your mind.

Does it not occur to you that anyone who is not a Nigerian is automatically a foreigner? And what folks asked for was a good coach and since some do not see any good one (capable of handling the SE)  from Nigeria , tell me, what other options do they have? of course a foreign one!
Now he can be even from space or anywhere. IT DOES NOT MATTER!!!

As per GH, he is a good coach and his CV is massive- russia is NOT a good side IMO. Guus gave them some sort of belief but a pig by any other name is still a PIG! geddit? but you are right, it is not ONLY about the coach, the Players are even more important.

Slovenia had the one of the best (if not the best and perhaps only second best to The Netherlands) defensive record in the WCQ (conceded only 4 goals! ). They are well drilled and organised.

Let Amodu go and coach russia and GH Nigeria. Maybe then we can now compare them.
