why did mr obas sign the agreement in the first place? did the government just realised that the we lacked the facilities or that they dont have the money with less than a year to go? what was the LOC thinking?

No be by force to host but why agree to host it?

Maybe the idea to shelf the hosting is good but what is the guarantee that the money will be well spent?

I don't want to feel as though our government is clueless. angry

I have a question though: how can OMOLARA f Yoruba possibly Mean "born at the right time" in Yoruba?
Me thinks it means A child is family or a child is my family or my child is my family, but most definitely what the above indicated,

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Roy Keane Vs Jack Warner by FBS(op): 8:46pm On Sep 12, 2008
and here is Jack Warner return fire!!

Warner blasts back at Keane
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=571564&sec=england&cc=5739

The war of words between Roy Keane and Jack Warner has intensified with the FIFA vice-president making a personal attack on the Sunderland manager, after the Irishman had called him "a clown" amid the row over Keane's decision to withdraw Dwight Yorke from international duty.

The Sunderland boss described Warner said: "If he is vice-president of FIFA, then God help us", and suggested he wrote letters on FIFA-headed writing paper "just to impress everybody".

Now Warner has retaliated with a new letter attacking Keane - and making a dig about his own conduct in walking out on the Republic of Ireland before the 2002 World Cup.

The letter says: "The disrespectful tone of your reported comments further demonstrates the total disrespect that you and others of your ilk have generally for players and officials from 'small' countries.

"It is obviously difficult for you to accept the fact that someone from a 'small' country could rise to become a vice-president of FIFA.

"I chose to respond on a FIFA letter-head because that is a privilege afforded me owing to my said status and the fact that your callousness showed utter disregard for FIFA's regulations re the release of players for international duty. Regrettably, but not surprisingly, you did not grasp the message.

"In closing may I remind you that a player's greatest honour is to represent his country in spite of the fact that you chose to walk away from yours during the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup after publicly abusing your manager, indictment that you will no doubt be proud of up to today. Poor Sunderland."
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Roy Keane Vs Jack Warner by FBS(op): 8:44pm On Sep 12, 2008
The war of words going on between Sunderland Manager, Roy Keane and FIFA Vice-President Jack Warner is intensifying.

Why would people in high places act like junior grade pupils exchanging "stinker" letters.

I think they should both get a grip and Roy Keane learning to respect authourity or should I say elders. Jack Warner could be old enough to be his father, calling the man a clown?!

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has fired a withering blast at FIFA vice-president Jack Warner by branding him ''a clown''.

The FIFA vice-president has caused a stir in the past.

Warner, a special advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation, wrote to Keane this week to accuse him of ''insensitivity and disrespect'' after midfielder Dwight Yorke was withdrawn from the squad to face the United States in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

But the furious Irishman, who was unhappy that the letter had been leaked to the media, called him to tell him exactly what he thought, and his contempt has apparently grown during the ensuing days.

Keane, who revealed Warner has never tried to contact him about striker Kenwyne Jones, who suffered knee ligament damage playing for his country in a friendly against England in June, said: ''It's just ridiculous. This clown is writing letters through the media.

''I spoke to Yorkie, who has officially retired a number of times. He is 36, and if they are depending on a 36-year-old to get them through to the World Cup in two years,

''I spoke to the man on Wednesday myself and I told him exactly what I thought about him. He has not once called or dropped a letter about Kenwyne.

''Carlos Edwards was over and has played a couple of games for them - Carlos was selected last year when he had a broken leg.

''He is probably a small man and he has got this 'Small-Man Syndrome'. The world is against him.

''If he is writing a letter representing Trinidad, why is he putting it under FIFA? If he is vice-president - and remember, he is vice-president, he is not president yet - God help us.

''People worry about the game and agents and directors of football and managers losing their jobs - we should be worried about people like him.''

Yorke, who can also expect a rocket from his club manager, captained his country in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Guatemala in Port of Spain, but was missing when they lost 3-0 to USA in Chicago four days later.

However, Keane, who insisted he has never prevented a player from linking up with his country, was adamant he has an arrangement with his former Manchester United team-mate.

He said: ''Kenwyne got injured playing in a friendly. I don't know what deal was going on with England that time, obviously a deal for (World Cup) votes or whatever.

''Kenwyne injured his knee even though he had broken his wrist in the last game for us and I was pretty sure he wasn't available.

''Then I saw Yorkie coming on for a 20-minute cameo appearance. Yorkie is 36 bloody years of age - I'm blaming him anyway.

''He's a clown as well. You retire and then go on an ego trip,

''He has not played in the Premier League since he busted his cheekbone [in pre-season], and he goes over and he played the first game, 90 minutes.

''He couldn't play Saturday, Wednesday and then try to get involved for us on Saturday, no chance, absolutely no chance. If I had known that, he probably wouldn't have got another year's contract from me. You have got to prioritise certain things at his age.

''All my other eight or nine players who were away, no problem. They have all been selected for every friendly match - I have never, ever once spoken to one of my players about missing a game, never.

''Certain managers do - certain managers look after certain national teams, I know that. The man (Warner) is a clown.''

@Frizy: The same thing happened when I visited a year ago. I carried all my suya paper in my hands looking for a proper place to throw it away. One of my friends just laughed as he slapped it out of my hands and told me, "this is Nigeria, just throw it on the floor."

Nigeria is sick and needs healing! but really, is there anything like Nigeria? even our flag needs revisiting. It doesnt represent or put the spirit of nationhood in you! I maybe wrong but you could very well say that we are not a "people"

we consider our tribes before our country. there aint no country then.

somebody was badly at fault for creating such a country, if indeed there is on.

the igbos blames the yorubas and vice versa, the hausas are blamed by everybody but yet they are the ones ruling the "country".

Something is just fundamentally wrong here. I say, welcome revolution!!!

The "Super" Eagles of Nigeria tackles the Bafana Bafana of SA, this weekend. Your predictions?

I just feel we don't have a super eagles team yet and I can't understand why General Adeleye is not in the squad.

Besides, I'm sure every team will want to beat us, Benny cearin will want that.

Controversial Blackburn Rovers striker, Benni McCarthy, has urged the Super Eagles to come to the EPRU Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday for their 2010 Nations Cup/World Cup qualifying game against South Africa with bags of handkerchiefs.

McCarthy, who rubbished Blackburn‘s claim that he was fat and unfit for the encounter, said on Thursday he would be all over the field firing on all cylinders on Saturday to help his country qualify for the next stage of the qualifiers.

“Nigeria must not think they can come here and go home with a smile on their faces. We will make sure they are not smiling after Saturday,” the former Porto told Despatch online on Thursday.

“We will fight them all the way. We all know how important this game is to the country. I know Nigeria is a class side but we are at home and must win at all costs.

“We all know we have to win to stay in with a chance of reaching Angola in 2010. We are up for it.”

McCarthy said the Bafana Bafana would draw inspiration from their 2-2 draw with Australia in a friendly affair in London to go for victory over Nigeria.

He said, “We got our pride back and we know no matter who plays for Nigeria against us, will be fighting to beat us. But we showed a lot of spirit against Australia and we must continue from there.”

Embattled Bafana Bafana coach, Joel Santana, promised South Africans victory over the Eagles, saying the players were battle-ready for the encounter.

“Nigeria is a good side but we are going to win,” he said.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Why Do Most Nigerians Want Obama To Win? by FBS: 7:18am On Sep 05, 2008
I don't understand how mccain is better than Obama? what has he done? oh yeah he was a prisoner of war but does that qualify you to be a president?

Obama stated clearly the things he wants to do in his speech and he spoke about change, didn't mccain copy him and plans to implement change? that they will do it is another story entirely.

Bush Snr promised not to raise taxes, but he did and he lost the next election.

And for those who say hillary is better, permit me, for I do not know, what has she also done? the snipper fire issue?

Obama ran a terrific campaign and it takes smart brains to do that, against all odds, he won the primaries, na beans? Obama respects families and those who grew up fatherless knows that he has come a long way. The barriers he broke will be talked about for centuries to come.

Politics is not sport and moreso that the best person does not always win.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Why Do Most Nigerians Want Obama To Win? by FBS: 11:12am On Sep 04, 2008
even if I was from the moon, I would still root for Obama. I listened to his speech and had goose pimples. How many more politicians can gather such a crowd? people waited endless hours to get into the stadium and hear him speak and he did not dissappoint. Obama all the way.

Politicians will always be politicians but this guy has and edge. he does not only carry that message of hope, he lives it and shows it.

Obama 2008/2012/2016,

But meanwhile, we as Nigerians should face our own wahala and elect a "leader" to take our nation forward, maybe someonein the mold of Obama cool
