A document leaked from the White House Coronavirus Task Force and first reported on by The Center for Public Integrity, a D.C.-based nonprofit newsroom, highlights 18 separate states as coronavirus case “red zones” that qualify for stronger public health restrictions in the wake of new coronavirus outbreaks.


Among the designated red zones are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah. This means that they have recorded more than 100 new cases per 100,000 state residents over the past week, as well as a diagnostic test positivity result over 10 percent.
