Federalist Society co-founder Stephen Calabresi said that President Trump’s tweet suggesting to postpone the election is “fascistic” and “grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment.”

“Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist,” Calabresi wrote in an op-ed for the New York Times. “But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.”

Calabresi noted that he has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1980, including for Trump in 2016. He said he had defended the president against the Mueller investigation and against the impeachment investigation.

The Federalist Society is an influential conservative and libertarian organization that advocates for textualist and originalist interpretation of the Consitutiton.

“Election Day was fixed by a federal law passed in 1845, and the Constitution itself in the 20th Amendment specifies that the newly elected Congress meet at noon on Jan. 3, 2021, and that the terms of the president and vice president end at noon on Jan. 20, 2021.

Steven Calabresi, cofounder of the conservative Federalist Society, called for a second impeachment inquiry into President Trump in a New York Times opinion piece on Thursday after a tweet earlier in the day from Trump where he falsely characterized mail-in voting and proposed the delay of the 2020 presidential election in November, which the executive branch cannot enact.

KEY FACTS

Founded in 1982, the Federalist Society is a right-wing organization with 60,000 lawyers, law students and scholars that's been characterized as a "conservative pipeline to the Supreme Court" by the Atlantic, with the most recently confirmed judge Brett Kavanaugh joining the group while at Yale.

In his op-ed, Calabresi notes that he's voted Republican in the presidential election since 1980, opposed the investigation into Russian election interference by Robert Mueller and also was against the impeachment into Trump regarding withholding aid to the Ukraine.

"But I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election," Calabresi writes, adding that doing so would be "illegal, unconstitutional and without precedent in American history."

Calabresi joins a chorus of both Democratic and Republican voices denouncing Trump's comments, with Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) saying, "We'll cope with whatever the situation is and have the election on November 3 as already scheduled."

Trump sent his tweet the same day it was announced that the U.S. gross domestic product dropped at an annual rate of nearly 33% and amid more and more polls putting presumptive Democratic candidate for president Joe Biden far ahead of Trump in the November election.

TANGENT
While mail-in voting has risen substantially in primary elections held amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the practice dates back to the Civil War and has increasingly been adopted over the years, including for Trump's 2016 election win. While Trump purports widespread fraud through mail-in ballots, he has never shown evidence, and in fact, the Brennan Center for Justice in 2017 set the risk of fraud between 0.00004% to 0.0009%. Additionally, his repeated notion that mail-in voting hurts the chances for Republicans in elections goes against studies that show the practice doesn't help either party.

Trump doesn't know anything about the U.S. constitution. He can't just make up his own laws. I'm suprised that even his numerous advisors have not explained the constitution to him, maybe they do and he doesn't listen or understand.

Very funny, Trump wants schools to reopen quickly, but on the other hand is suggesting delaying the election.

The U.S. economy is in shambles, the worst since WW2, high unemployment, tens of thousand dead due to covid19, civil unrest, massive division in the nation. He knows that his time is up.

Same here, i'm really pained that one of the few black business leaders is dead, at one point he was being considered for the post of the Federal Reserve Chairman. Unfortunately he had underlying health issues, yet he chose to attend a rally unprepared, unmask and sadly suffered terribly with his life.

American businessman and former Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain died after a month long battle with the coronavirus at age 74, Newsmax reports.

Cain died in an Atlanta-area hospital where he had been critically ill for several weeks.

It is unknown for sure where Cain became infected.

Cain was admitted on July 1, two days after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Ten days prior, he had attended a rally for President Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Political consultant Dick Morris said of Cain, “He was one of the most original thinkers in American politics. He creative strong convictions, an open mind and a deep sense of patriotism.”

“He was a great friend, a great guy. Suddenly, the plague strikes home.’’

You’re never ready for the kind of news we are grappling with this morning. But we have no choice but to seek and find God’s strength and comfort to deal with it.

Herman Cain – our boss, our friend, like a father to so many of us – has passed away. He’s entering the presence of the Savior he’s served as an associate minister at Antioch Baptist Church in Atlanta for, and preparing for his reward.

Romans 2:6-7 says: “God ‘will repay each person according to what they have done.’ To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.” By that measure, we expect the boss is in for some kind of welcome, because all of us who knew him are well aware of how much good he did.

Let me deal with some of the particulars of the last few weeks. We knew when he was first hospitalized with COVID-19 that this was going to be a rough fight. He had trouble breathing and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. We all prayed that the initial meds they gave him would get his breathing back to normal, but it became clear pretty quickly that he was in for a battle.

We didn’t release detailed updates on his condition to the public or to the media because neither his family nor we thought there was any reason for that. There were hopeful indicators, including a mere five days ago when doctors told us they thought he would eventually recover, although it wouldn’t be quick. We were relieved to be told that, and passed on the news via Herman’s social media. And yet we also felt real concern about the fact that he never quite seemed to get to the point where the doctors could advance him to the recovery phase.

Herman was 74. Although he was basically pretty healthy in recent years, he was still in a high-risk group because of his history with cancer. We all prayed so hard every day. We knew the time would come when the Lord would call him home, but we really liked having him here with us, and we held out hope he’d have a full recovery.

Herman had just started hosting a new show on Newsmax TV. He was so excited about it, and so pumped up about playing a role in the 2020 election campaign. At an age when a lot of people are looking to slow down, he was taking on new projects, booking speaking opportunities. Ever the dealmaker, he would fill me in with details of his negotiations with people on any number of things. I would always tell him I should have him negotiate my deals with my business’s other clients, because he did them better than anyone.

It’s been nearly three decades since a Democrat won Georgia in a presidential election.

Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton carried the state in the 1992 election.

But a new poll in Georgia indicates the state’s 16 electoral votes are up for grabs in the race between President Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

According to a Monmouth University poll conducted July 23-27 and released on Wednesday, the president and the presumptive Democratic nominee are deadlocked at 47 percent among registered voters in Georgia, with 3 percent saying they’ll vote for Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen and 3 percent undecided.

The poll shows that among the smaller pool of voters likely to vote in the general election, Trump has the slight edge. A high turnout likely model indicates the president with 48 percent support and Biden at 47 percent. A low likely turnout projection shows Trump at 49 percent support and the former vice president at 46 percent.

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is still in the hospital undergoing oxygen treatment more than three weeks after first being hospitalized with the coronavirus on July 2, according to an update from his Twitter account on Monday.

The 74-year-old Cain, co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, attended President Trump's rally in Tulsa in June and did not wear a mask. Two days after he was said to have tested positive, Cain commented on a July 4 celebration at Mt. Rushmore, tweeting: "Masks will not be mandatory for the event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!"

"We know it's been a few days since we last gave you an update on the boss. But he is still in the hospital being treated with oxygen for his lungs. In the meantime, the doctors say his other organs and systems are strong.
"Re-strengthening the lungs is a long and slow process, and the doctors want to be thorough about it.
