Valentino25: Hello everyone, my name is Valentine, i'm a lawyer, my tourist visa got approved today, I have no travel history and currently married, it was just the mercy and favour of God, the guy at window 7 today had denied so many people, even people with better profiles and travel history, my interview with him was more of a chit chat than interview. My advice, do not falsify any document or lie to get a visa, even people with Virgin passports like me still get visas, be truthful and sincere, know your onions in your profession cus Dude asked me a question regarding a course I did way back in my year two as a law student. praise God people congrats oo Jesus is lord |

Armadaij: I have been a silent reader (a member of the silent readers association of this group you'll say) since about 3 months ago. I took my time to skim through part 1, read part 2 into detail and I've been following part 3 so religiously.
Our Interview (I, Darling Wife & Son) went for our interview yesterday at 7:30AM and below is the transcript: Congratulation to you guys
VO: Good morning
I and DWF: Good morning (together, smiling)
Me: Carried our son in a carrier. He had slept off while waiting on the queue for fingerprint capture having gone through the preliminary clearance
VO: Passports please
Me: Gave him.
VO: why are you going to the US?
Me: We are going to Houston Texas for family vacation and to visit my brother who tried to attend our wedding in October 2015 but couldn't make it due to his intense work schedule at the firm he was working with at the time. We have also been wanting to take the vacation and visit on his request since then but our work schedule and our inability to synchronise our leave wouldn't allow us
VO : (cuts in) how long are u going for?
Me: 14days.
VO: What do you do? (That was the VO's undoing....)
Me: I'm the Head of IT for blablabla managing the entire IT enterprise infrastructure across blablabla (mentioned all the regions my company covers) ......I oversee. ...bla bla bla (until the VO stopped me).....sincerely, I needed a stopping.
VO: How much is your salary? (Gbam!...another land mine just triggered by VO)
Me: I earn approximately blablabla, exclusive of revenue generated from the annual rentals of my real estate and also incomes from private IT consultancy to SME's All the while, DWF was smiling and looking straight into the VO's eyes.
VO : Madam, what do you do?
DWF: I'm an assistant manager, sales in an IT sales and solutions company, blablabla....... I build and maintain close relationship btw blablabla... and her customers in particular sectors like blablabla and blablabla, till VO stopped her.
VO: (to me), tell me about IT Infrastructure. ....(inadvertently unleashed the dragon) that was how I went on a roll.....when I join blablabla....there was nothing like structure as the entire network was on a WORKGROUP, So I commenced the design of a full fledge domain infrastructure, implemented on blablabla Server blablabla R2 Datacenter Edition mounted on blablabla Server Machine and hosting over 7 VMs representing core services delivered on the infrastructure....... VO couldn't help but smile through my long epistle until and had to stop me after a while. VO: How long have you worked for?
Me: I'll be 7 years by February ending
VO: you madam (to DWF)
DWF: I'll be 7 by April ending
VO: Have you travelled before ?
Me and DWF at the same time: Yes.
VO: Flips through my passport rapidly
Me: Given my job role, I have travelled between Nigeria and Ghana multiple times...while at it, I noticed he was trying to check through DWF's passport and taking I initiative, I immediately said - - you may want to see this (passing DWF's old passport containing her trip to Ghana in 2011 to him)
VO: Flips through the passport, checking the entry and exit stamps seems to be amused about the Bank's stamp of the $ amount of PTA purchased for the trip at the time, smiles and returned it to me.
VO: Do you have any other child or children?
DWF and I : No, he's only 8 months, DWF added.
VO: Went back to his computer and started typing away as if he was on a hacking adventure......and the typing continued like it was going to be for eternity only for him to lift his head after about 2 minutes beaming with smile and the magic sentence spilled from his mouth......Your VISA has been approved! ("Gbam!!!" - not part of the sentence).
DFW just packed all we had resting on the platform and didn't wait to hear the rest.
My hand of its own accord outstretched to collect the white paper whilst I managed to mutter the words "Have a nice day and happy new year"
I practically floated on air out of the building.
Rushed to catch up with DFW and told her to keep a straight face because I wasn't ready to give shishi to no security. One even tried asking how it went, we just walked past completely hushed.
NB:
I was denied F1 back in July 2006 for not having enough tie and went ahead to study an almost identical course in the University here in Nigeria.
I have since been working after graduation.
Went to the embassy with, introductory letter from office, salary breakdown, statement of accounts - DWF's and mine, Properties documents, training and school certificates but not a single document was checked.
Elder brother is a citizen while younger sister (non-immigrant) is presently attending a University for Masters
I need to thank the brains behind this platform immensely for ensuring the sustainability of the platform and standing resolute in the face of all sorts of insults and castigation.
The advices that everyone brings to bare is unquantifiable and may the FORCE reward each and all accordingly.
I wish intending applicants and those reapplying good luck |

Champora: I had my visa interview today, 9am at US consulate.
Thank you guys so much for all your efforts in putting out information here. As I've received information, so will I also give out my own transcript. I learned a whole lot about being confident and not "cramming your answers." I learned about dressing well from you guys and coming early. Be free, flow and have a discussion if you can with the V.O. My V.O had denied like a family and ... In fact if I was watching well, I think she denied quite a number of people exactly before me.
I left my house around 6am and got to the U.S consulate around past 7am meanwhile my interview was by 9. So I just paid for a place where I would drop my bag safely and then I sat down there till 8.20.
Those photocopy and business guys were just telling me "have you stappled your passport to your DS-160 and done this and done that?" I just told him not to worry that I have everything under control. He even offered to give me his stapler to use for free, I just said thank you, no and I smiled. I did this because the first time I went for my first visa interview, a man working at the Consulate asked me if he'd instructed me to staple my passport picture to my DS-160. I took cue from the last time and didn't bother stapling anything.
So as I was saying... By 8.20 I carried my file and all and went to stand on the line. The queue was long and after passing through all necessary checks. We sat down and waited for the CGI people to tell us to proceed for the interview proper.
Inside the interview room I must've stood in line for almost 1 hour. People wore all sorts of different things, sandals, cover shoes, palms, native, casual, cooperate, etc.
The lady in front of me was quite shaky and I could tell as I stood behind her. I can't exactly conclude but to me, I thought she had crammed all she was saying especially when the nervousness got to her. As they dashed her blue paper, I was up next!
***
Here is my visa interview transcript. It may not be exact cause I've forgotten some but it went something like this:
V.o: Hi good morning. Me: smiles. Hi good morning. V.o: pass me your passport. Me. Alright V.o: so how old are you? Me. I'm 19 years old. V.o: where are you going to? Me: I'll be traveling to New York as a selected Bleep to meet with 33 other teens like myself from around the World and attend the Bleep Summit in New York City. V.O: How long are you staying? Me: I'll be staying from so so to so time and it's roughly 1 week I'll be in New York. V.o: (Nods) how was your last visit to the US? Me: Smiles (because I just remembered my last visit and the memories were so good). It was really good! V.o: where and where did you go? Me. We went to California State University, University of Missouri Kansas City, U.S Department of State... V.o: (cuts in, she looks up quickly at me and her eye shone like something caught her attention and she was just nodding)... in D.C? Me: Yes in DC. Smiles back. V.o: Nice! Are you single? Me. Sorry? (I didn't hear her well). She repeated like 2-3 times before I gave her a puzzled look. Me: Yes. V.o: Do you have any children? Me: I gave her an even more puzzled look (well in all sincerity, I was a little puzzled and I smiled too) No V.o: (looks friendly and maybe smiles too). Are you a student? Me. Yes I'm a university/final year student studying English. V.o what university? Me. I'm studying at so and so university in Nigeria V.o (stamps something inside my passport and her face is still friendly) you can get your passport/visa by Tuesday at this location here. (Slides me a white paper.) Me: Thank you. V.o: have a nice day. Me: Smiles back thanks you too.
I was trying to hold my smile as I walked out of the Consulate to go and carry my bag and I thank God a whole lot for the success. This is my second successful Visa interview in different categories just roughly within 6 months and I'm grateful to God.
It may be true that the V.O's may not be able to see what you're wearing but I'll say please do your best to dress decently or well enough whether they're looking or not. Be confident and audible, try, even though you're scared. Pray too because the visa anyway isn't always given to the best dressed. Good preparedness and good chance and you maximizing the opportunity happen to all.
By 10.15 or 10.20 I was done. congrats |

CurrentEffort: Went in as family and did ours 3 weeks ago .We were meant to enter 9:45am but didn't do the interview until almost 12pm .After a very long queue and bar code stage we
got into a big square room where pictures were scanned ,the fingerprints and finally the interview stage . You wont even know you are on the interview line as people
queue up in all stages. Congrats,plZ did u upload ur passport on ur ds 160 or u just took it along
The interview goes this way : VO : Good morning Me : Morning and Happy New Year VO : Your passports Please Me : Here is it. VO : Where is the last person? (He couldn't see my son very well) Me : My Son moved closer and waved to the VO. At the same time my Son and Daughter say Good morning and he waved and Smiled back at them. VO : Why are you going to US? Me: We actually going on Vacation and we are considering New York being one of the largest Tourist centers in the world. VO : Where do you work? Me : I work with bla bla bla as an bla bla bla as an bla bla bla He looked at his desktop obviously looking at the form we filled . VO: What is your salary? Me: bla bla bla VO: What type of bla bla bla do you use in your office? (Some IT items indicated in the form) Me: We use bla bla bla in the office (He saw this from the form I filled) VO :How long are you staying in US? Me: Just 14 days (This time myself and Madam say it at the same time) VO: Any travel history? Me :Yes I have been to United Kingdom twice. VO :He flipped through my attached old passport.
VO: Madam what do you do ? Madam: I am the bla bla bla of bla bla bla ... VO : Did you travel as a family before? Madam : I only went to Ghana with my family ....... VO: Any relative/friend in US? the background was noisy and people were so close to one another pardon i asked .
He repeated again ! Me: Not at all.No relative/friend in US. VO: He typed for like 1 minute
We: Some silent prayers going on within us here.Looks like the judgement day. VO: He pulled out the drawer and put our passports there. Flipped out the white paper .....You will be notified through your email/sms when to pick your visas.
It's only God lots of Blue papers that day oo
You need to be very conscious of what you are doing. That is :
1. Many people doing fingerprints and interviews at the same time. 2. Don't let blue papers flying around bother you as lots of people got denied (Be prayerful, positive and hopeful). 3. No enclosure for interviewers - You hear all the conversations of others easily (so don't get distracted). 4. Questions may come from form Ds-160 (read it very well) 5. Don't staple the 2x2 passports (A guy did that in my front and was asked to go out) as this will affect the scanning of the pictures .So keep them separated. 6. Dress neatly and smartly.Tie and Suit not a must .I was even surprised seen a lot with natives and cap.
Wish you all good luck ! |
