These are some of the issues to be handled by the incoming Minister of Finance... The way students are exploited in the name of providing education, which is not even quality, is alarming... University authorities steal money from students 'under false pretenses', which is 419... I also hope we get a good Attorney-General who will make sure our existing criminal laws are enforced to the letter...

Students should continue questioning and challenging such acts of exploitation, and make sure the spread it through all avenues of social media...

Is it a curse that Policemen must extort?
It wont be easy for Buhari to stop corruption by police... It is part of their DNA now... Dont expect magic after May 29...

Under Buhari's government, whatever that has gone up would come down...

All promotions that were hurriedly packaged would be hurriedly demoted...
All pump prices that have gone up would be brought down...
All those that have victimised their opponents to emerge Tops would be reversed.
I doubt it... If his focus is on firing immediately he comes in, then he will surely fail...

The occupant of a position should not be his problem... His concern should be whether that person is doing their job well, and delivering... If the person cannot deliver, then you fire, simple...

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Is A Disappointment – Ex-militant Leader, Boyloaf by Fellonigerians: 3:05pm On May 06, 2015
Rilwayne001:
A former militant leader in the Niger Delta, Ebikabowei Victor Ben, a.k.a General Boyloaf, speaks to PREMIUM TIMES’ Aderonke Ogunleye about the outgoing administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, and the incoming Muhammadu Buhari government. Boyloaf says the oil rich Niger Delta did not benefit from the Jonathan Presidency. He pledges to work with Mr. Buhari, and explains why former militants in the region did not carry out their threats to go to war if Mr.Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election.

Premium Times : How will the Niger Delta receive Jonathan now that he is coming back home?

Boyloaf: To me, as a matter of fact Jonathan disappointed us. That is my own opinion. He disappointed us. To me, he disappointed us. He might be good to some people. There is nothing to tell if you get to my own state. We didn’t benefit. People like us did not benefit from his government. His government focused on one side. The Bayelsans did not benefit. It is only the Arugbos - that is Ondo State and Delta State - that benefited from his government. So, someone like me will not welcome him. I will not welcome him at all. The struggle continues.

When you are a citizen, you can believe that you can do wonders, but when you are given info and the reality hits, thats when you know that magic is not possible in fixing a lot of Nigeria's problems...

That is why when politicians are shouting about doing this and that, I laugh because it shows that they dont know Nigeria's problems...

Thank God he is confident enough to accept that he is nervous, at least he is being honest...

Now time for him to start being honest with everyone, including his financiers and party members... His administration is not to reward people, like PDP, for being in the opposition and bringing down PDP, rather it is to rebuild Nigeria for a better future...

PoliticsRe: Ezekwesili Defends Stance, Says No Empirical Evidence Obasanjo Is Corrupt by Fellonigerians: 11:16am On May 06, 2015
Trailblazer1:
Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has defended her claim that there is no empirical evidence that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo is corrupt.

It will be recalled that Ezekwesili during an interview on Al Jazeera, said that there was no evidence of corruption in the former President’s regime despite reports to the contrary.

“There was no way it could have been more corrupt that the government of Abacha. I am sorry,” she said speaking of Obasanjo’s regime, where she served as a Minister.

When asked about a Wikileaks report which quoted former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu as saying that everyone was a thief in Obasanjo’s government, Mrs Ezekwesili said:

“The next person you should invite to your show should be Nuhu Ribadu. Its not about rejecting his views. I don’t have counter-factory evidence on the basis to reject it”

When asked about her opinion on how corrupt Obasanjo was, she said:

“Is that supposed to be a question on the basis of some factual thing that you are putting before me? My sense of President Obasanjo was that he gave me the freedom to define the work that I did that public procurement was more transparent than it used to be.”

She has taken to her Twitter page to defend her stance, insisting there is no empirical evidence that Obasanjo is corrupt.

As far as am concern, the senate has not lived up to expectation. VAPP Bill is not the very important bill Nigerians want to hear, what about the Petroleum Industrial Bill (PIB) that has been lingering since 2007? Why are they shying away from passing the bill, is it not because the cabals continued to influence and frustrate the PIB knowing fully well that their oil scam biz will be blocked?

#GiveUsPIB#
This will be the test for the incoming NASS, to see whether there is really change, or business as usual...
PoliticsRe: Senate Finally Passes VAPP Bill by Fellonigerians: 11:11am On May 06, 2015
Gr8amechi:
AFTER a 13-year sojourn in the National Assembly, the Violence Against Persons’ Prohibition, VAPP, Bill 2014, was finally passed yesterday by the Nigerian Senate.

It took the Senate exactly 22 minutes to pass all 46 clauses contained in the bill.

The approval gives legal teeth to enact a law to eliminate, or reduce to a minimum, cases of sexual, domestic and indeed all forms of gender-based violence in the country.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who took charge of proceedings for at the day’s plenary, described the passage as “an achievement.”
His words: “It is the primary responsibility of the executive to protect the lives and property of its citizens, especially against violence, while ours (the legislature) is to enact laws to support such responsibility.”

A clause-to-clause consideration of the bil, which started on April 14, suffered initial hiccup following observations that Clause 1 of the bill had issues with the term of imprisonment for under-aged sexual offenders.

Some of these laws are duplications of existing laws... Creation of laws no be our problem... Our problem na execution and enforcement... There are too many laws in Nigeria...

I wish I could replay Chief MKO Abiola's interview for you and you could hear him talk about why he disbanded Abiola Babes (How can the FA insist that you play a league match the day after you play a continental tie?). No single owner can effect the desired change unless that change comes from the FA.
I get your point, but it is a risk that is worth taking... He has lost billions of dollars in one day all because of the falling Naira, so losing N100m is a drop in the bucket... Dangote is the richest blackman in the world, so if he decides to own a team in Nigeria, you will see changes instantly in the league, and football in general...

They way millionaires in Nigeria compete in every measurement of wealth and success, e.g., to see who has the biggest houses, most expensive cars, biggest yachts, biggest jets, etc, other millionaires will follow him, and start competing to see whose team wins the most trophies, both domestic and international... Viewership will increase, merchandises will be sold worldwide, more players all over africa and the world will rush to Nigeria, etc... See as millionaires in Nigeria are all scrambling to get on Forbes List... It is good for Nigeria's economy, and can also be good for our football...

The administrators of football just dont know how to market our football, so the need external pressure...
SportsRe: Dangote Considering Buying Arsenal Fc-bloomberg by Fellonigerians: 6:56pm On May 05, 2015
arsetalks:
Listen, Business knows no sentiments. You want him to buy and sponsor a Nigeria team, what will that add to his coffer? Is there any Nigeria team worth more than 500 million naira? No one investor who is in the caliber of Dangote will invest in the Nigeria league until the NFF and the LMC gets serious with improving the fortunes of the league.

Supposing he buys Enyimba, brings in big name players, how will he recoup his investment? Which big player will want to play in a league with so poor stadias? With almost no TV appearance?

Let me ask you, if he buys Enyimba which to me is the biggest club in Nigeria ( forget the heroics of Kano Pillars last few years ), what profit will he be making from them? In what league will they compete? How much prize money will they be fighting for? How does it add to his prestige as a billionaire in dollar?

Until the league body gets serious nothing will be achieved. We have more quality players than SA but they get more money than us. It was easy for Ajax to invest in Ajax Cape Town for this sole reason. MARKETING.

Take a look at the nike sponsorship deal. Nigeria gets less than $6 million per year, lowly Chile gets $30m per year. Forget Chile's recent boom in world football, they are lowly compared to Nigeria in every aspect, we are merely a sleeping giant.

Think about it deeply. Chelsea were rubbish when Abramovich came in and they do not even have a stadium of their own but they had a brandable product. It was easy for Abramovich to pay crazy money to acquire players because he knows once Chelsea start competing regular in the champions league, he will make his money back. And just take a look at his investment pattern with Chelsea, is he still signing players for crazy amount? Chelsea even declared a profit of 7m pounds or there about last year I think. Can he do that in the Nigerian league? Why do you think MTN did not bother with Glo or you think they cannot beat Glo to the sponsorship right if they so want?

If you want him to dash money to the league, I can understand that. How much is prize money for CAF champions league winner? $1 million. Entrance into UEFA champions league fetches you close to $12 million, winning it from next season will fetch you close to $100 million with the new BT sport deal.
This is not sentiments, it is all about potentials of an untapped market... There is no money in the league because it is run by docile people without ideas, and teams are owned by another group of docile people with no interest in the growth of football in the country... If the likes of dangote, Otedola, Ovia, Elumelu, Otudeko etc buy clubs in Nigeria, they will influence the administration of the league because the are people that will demand for newer policies that will protect their interests and make money for them...

They will demand for more sponsors of the league, more opportunities to recoup their money through merchandising (which does not exist in Nigeria at all), their names will be used to boost the league as a battle of Nigeria's billionaires, they will participate in the negotiation of new deals for the league (TV, etc), and so many other changes which they will bring to the sector...

As long as State governments run the clubs, people will not see the potentials in the sector...
