If I were you I will take off the last two schools on that list. Your aim should be tier 1 schools. Secondly, I don't think VT allows direct Phd, at least for there structures group. It might be different for environmental but make sure you check.

Just calm down, US is not Nigeria. Everything is wrong with Nigeria but we are fairly lucky cases of Incurable STIs are not rampant. Have you heard of herpes? More than 3million cases happen in the US per year and its not curable. Once you get it, its over. You should read more about it maybe that will guide you. Herpes could be oral or genital, oral could be contacted through just by kissing. Many beautiful ladies with kardashian body have this and its not written on the face. Herpes is not an STI people test just for, they only test for it if you show symtoms. I don't know how old you are but life is not all about sex, you won't die if you don't have sex for now or at least get a loyal girlfriend. Lets even forget STIs, you want child support to ruin you? These girls are desperate and you need to be careful.

Simply fill the application form on the graduate school website. Attach all necessary documents (Lor,Sop,test scores if applicable etc). Statement of purpose is a coincise summary about yourself, motivation for graduate school, experience, research interest and long term goals.

1) I am just saying you shouldn't generalize 2) Whether $10k or $27k,that sham is not something I support. I believe that money could be put into better use like down payment for house etc. As a genuine student with degrees,I believe there are many ladies you will get to meet and marry legally so far you have goals with good personality. The opportunities abound but it is left to you if you can live with the cultural differences. However, there are also some people on the other side of the divide who have to find a way by all means.

What are my chances of getting into a good to decent school in the US for a Master's degree degree in Pharmacology or a related course with full funding? The funding aspect is critical as I'm currently making peanuts doing my youth service and my family can't really afford to sponsor an MSc abroad. Would I be better off (with regards to funding) pursuing a direct entry PhD? I'd prefer the MSc because of the 2 year exit option if I decide academia isn't for me, but I'm open to either.
Also, I'm considering retaking the GRE. Would my prospects be appreciably improved with a higher GRE score (Especially in the quantitative and AW sections)?
Lastly, I'm finding the prospect of wading through dozens of American schools rather daunting and I'd appreciate any school suggestions anyone might have to facilitate things, as well as any tips on how to whittle down the selection.
I really appreciate the work all the experienced posters have been putting in here to help us clueless newbies, lol. Thanks for all the help.

First, your profile is good and since you are not considering Engineering, your quantitative score should be fine. Don't waste your time rewriting the GRE, your AW is decent too.

Secondly, I will like to correct the impression that doing a PHd means you have to work in Academia, that impression might be true if you plan to go back to Nigeria but in America and other developed countries, you dont have to. Many companies are recruiting Phd holders and a Phd might also give you more opportunities to getting PR.

Thirdly, you might find it hard to see anybody that will suggest schools to you because I feel like your course is not common on this thread, however you might want to talk to Imperiouxx, he might have one or two suggestions for you since his field is the closest to yours that I know of. The onus still falls on you to do an extensive research on schools you will like to apply to and schools that have more probability of getting funding at.

You still have the time now because most schools won't open their portals for Fall 2019 application until September. Get to work, use linkedin to connect with international students and ask questions, make google your companion and you will be amazed with the kind of information you will get. You can have a mix of Msc and Phd applications. Check for your course ranking and peruse through the list one after the other, YOU HAVE THE TIME. Cheers

No it wont. Tell the person to use western union quick pay. He/she can do that at Walmart or any western union outlet and it takes about 3days to reflect.

Exactly. You cant be fresh out of undergraduate with no research experience or work experience and be applying to Austin, Beckeley, Virginia tech etc with less than 315 GRE. Chances are very low in those top Engineering schools because many students from developed nations are also applying with stelar grades. Maybe that will work in University of Kansas or Kansas state etc. That is why you have to be smart with your choice of schools and cut your coat according to your size.

I didn't want to dignify you with a response before because I thought its best to let it go but since you brought this here yourself and you keep mentioning me, I guess I will respond because sometimes silence is not always golden. Because you people are doing people favor does not mean they always have to play to your terms when it obviously doesn't favor them. For the record, I dont know the lady in question from anywhere.

I met her on Nairaland just like everyone that sends me pms. Nov 5,2017, she told me about her dealings with you about GRE promo, which she benefitted but she realized that the registration was cancelled few days to her exam. She made mentioned that she contacted you bla bla...the payment was made after she had taken the exam without being able to report her scores. She specifically said you and the donor said you will pay for reporting four score reports because the donor admitted it was his fault. From Nov 5, 2017 that she asked for my advice on the issue till Dec 1 2017, you guys didn't pay for any score reports. Infact you stopped picking her calls, few times that you picked there was no correlation between what she was asking and what you were saying. I specifically called you too just to resolve the issue but to no avail, it was as if I wasted about 2hrs of my life talking to you, I am saying A you will be saying B.

Because of the stress she was going through and application deadlines approaching, I paid for 2 GRE score reports for someone I don't even know facially till today because you guys were not straight forward and forth coming. Feb 23, 2018 you sent an email that you want to refund me and I said I don't need the money, give the lady in question the naira equivalent. In summary, from Nov 5, 2017 to Feb 23,2018 is about four months which is a long time to be patient. You want someone that put in the work to research for schools and studied for GRE to be patient on your own terms because of your fault. At least if you are not considerate be reasonable. Normal me would have just ignored this but I have to, to save incoming people from losing money and going through unnecessary stress due to one nonsense GRE promo.

To all of you looking for GRE promo, know the risk involved and be ready for the consequences. Its better to pay for GRE on the ets website yourself to have peace of mind. Have a good day.

With a company account you will have to explain why the company is sponsoring you, of which most times its hard to explain even if true. This is because company have staff salaries to pay and other expenses which is what VOs consider.

Good day everyone. I need sincere advice from people with more experience here.

I applied for PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics option) at up to five (5) different schools for this Fall 2018 in US.
However none granted me admission except one with no funding. I declined the offer.

I have a first class degree in Mechanical Engineering.My GRE score is Verbal-151 Quantitative-160. Total 311.
My SOP should be ok in comparison to others.

The only shortcoming of my application that i know of is that most were submitted on the deadline dates due to some challenges I faced then. Could only this be the reason for not getting funding?

Also other factor that might have affected me is that most of them were top schools including: University of Southern California, University of Michigan Ann-Arbor and Texas A & M College Station.

I need your advice as I am planning to apply for Fall 2019. Also which likely schools have higher probability of admission and funding?

First don't be too hard on yourself, life happens. Do you have a masters degree? Do you have research experience? Did you have any contact with any faculty prior to applying? The sad truth is, even with a GRE score of 320, you can still be rejected from Top 10 schools if you apply to all. PhD admission is extremely competitive and I admire your ambition for choosing those schools but you need to have a good spread of schools up to top 60 in your field. However, you cant be applying for PhD a day to deadlines, you need to apply way before deadline preferably ending of Nov. Applying very early helps in some cases.

As regards your SOP, you need more than 'ok' SOP to stand a better chance, you should send your SOP to people to help you review. You need to have a great SOP coupled with great LOR.

For fall 2019, look at University of Kansas, Kansas state University, University of Maryland college park, University of Pittsburgh,Northwestern (There is a young Nigerian prof in the Mechanical department, you can talk to him) and others. By the way if you have the luxury of time and money, you can consider re-writing the GRE to get >320. However if not, just apply to schools between 20 - 60 in the mechanical engineering ranking (If you don't have the ranking, I can send it to you). You need to understand that some crazy Chinese and Indians are applying to those same top 10 schools with near perfect GRE scores, research papers and experience. Try to apply to at least 6 schools (2 Top 20, 3 between 20 and 60) and 1 in the last range and not just 3 schools). Do an extensive research on each school you decide to apply to, go on LinkedIn, connect with international students in the school and ask questions about funding and prospect of getting a direct PhD offer. Make the graduate coordinator your friend, ask questions and be explicit. Search Nairaland to see people who have gotten PhD admission with funding and look up such schools. Getting Phd admission and funding is like looking for a job, you have to give it all

I could remember something similar like this happened last year and the lady called me and was panic thinking it is a scam if i am not wrong and i told her to calm down and i should contact the benevolent guy and ask him what is the issue, the guy explained to me that he personally cancelled some payment transactions on his card because something that was deep and bitter happened to him which i am aware and that he will get it done, I spoke to the lady but yet she didn't believe and trust the benevolent for her own reason not until third parties have to contact me and i explained to them until she could calm down at room temperature.

The funniest thing was that i feel she wanted to pressurize me so that i can mount pressure on the benevolent guy and she even called the guy all sort of names that are horrible which i never expected from someone who wanted discounted few weeks ago but now she is on fire displaying her internal zoo and she doesn't care and i said to her that you can't be insulting this benevolent guy indirectly in my presence and you want me to be happy and table this matter with the guy. This benevolent guy told me that he will get it done, i told the lady yet its very hard for her to believe even when she asked about her score report how would she pay for it and this benevolent guy told me that he will take responsibility for sending score report for her since free option is closed and the fault is from him. It got to a point that i was angry and i told her that if this benevolent guy decided not to pay back there is nothing me and her can do but please exercise patience and if the benevolent guy didn't pay, i will make the payment from my pocket and please stop disturbing with me with calls every 2/3 hours in a day not until she reduced it to weekly or once in 2/3 weeks.

Infact it turns to dramatic war between us and i just have to overlook some words coming out from her mouth, heart, mind and it seems she was after her application deadline which i can tagged as selfish interest but doesn't care about other side for once, I told her that i will contact her myself to update her with news because she calling me asking how far or maybe she call and i didn't pick due to my busy schedule and i don't want it to look somehow and i was happy the day that she told me that someone came to her aid so that she can meet her application deadline and assisted her to pay for score report. I told her that she will get refund back and the person asked me to give his cash to her.

I admits that delay of refunds from the benevolent guy was late and wrong, I can't blame him due to personal stuffs, also i could be wrong from my side because i could have pay her personally but her impatience and insults drew me back that until the benevolent guy order me to pay her is when she will get her refund but that doesn't me she also should be wrong like us because two wrongs can't make a right, I am yet to hear from her if she get alert of her refunds because next week will make it 2 months i personally paid her after her normal attitude whenever she called, it was few days ago the benevolent guy asked me to credit her after i could talk to him.

I decided to post this today after seeing your post, because this life is very funny since some people derived joy in scamming and some derived joy in hustling and we should not forget that God is really watching us on HD

I didn't even expect to hear of this again, no matter how you spin this, the lady in question is not wrong. Every normal person that worked for his or her money will react the way she reacted. Our country is synonymous to scam and people are very sensitive when it comes to money matters. Just let it go

Jesus Christ of Nazareth!!!!! $600 just to process one unknown school? Ignorance is not an excuse. I don't even know what to say to you. This is sad! If you know what is good for you, dont pay any stupid balance of 500k. Hope you know Visa is not automatic, you will still have to appear for visa interview and bearing in mind that the whole process was done for you, only God knows what the outcome will be but it is not looking good to me.
