I wrote the GRE without preparation tho, so I might consider rewriting it also. I am looking at other schools like UTK, U of florida,UT while I also add Uni of pittsburg.

Please, I need help on this. I want to apply to UTArlington for "PhD straight from BS" or "MS" degree in Civil Engineering as I meet the requirements for both. I would have applied for both but I can only make only one application at a time. I am confused on which has the higher probability of getting me admitted with full funding. Please kindly give your views on the matter. Here are my grades:

Good day house! I need your advice. I was offered PhD admissions in Chemical Engineering with no funding at University of Kansas. I have the fee for at least a year, I was told my case will be evaluated after a semestre with them. Will it be easy for me to get a Visa with no funding because most VO are used to seeing PhD admissions with funding.

like i said earlier, different schools different rules..
some schools have more seats for Phd than MSc, it all depends on the faculty Size and research area..

It is not cast in stone.

Most MSC research/thesis based students go in for their PhD after their MSC..., so bros, it is almost the same once you have a good academic profile and scores.

Most schools offer their MSC research and PHD students funding, thought majority are directed towards PhD cause of the long term commitment.

It is easier to get in for an MSC coursework degree. (This is the Cash Cow for most Schools), but baba MSC research Thesis and PhD are almost the same in Engineering, your research area matters.

I guess you are talking about course work Masters and not thesis or research based Masters...

Different schools, different rules.
people apply for MSC and are given Phd instead..

It is just easier to get funding with a Phd, cause it comes mostly with offers than an MSC
Its not cast in stone...

Thank you so much, can you please list the schools that accepts unofficial transcript, and again, I studied linguistic for my undergraduate course,but now I'm changing to a different course entirely (strategic intelligence and analysis) hope this won't be a minus.

AS A MATTER OF FACT TELL THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT OFFICE OFFICIAL TO UPDATE YOUR DOCUMENT IF YOU RESUBMIT YOUR AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT AND MAKE SURE YOU GET A CONFIRMATION ON THE UPDATE,
That's why you see some transcripts here where the visa officer don't ask for SOA is because DHS/USCIS has provided Documentations through the CCD report from the Institution to the consular officer for the particular applicant well signed and scanned or mail e.g SOA,Affidavit,Financial Institution Recommendation for Sponsors,EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION FOR SPONSORS,and DOF.
They don't need to request for it at the interview, soft copy is enough.

Most of the schools I want to apply to, I checked the admission requirements part on their website, they stated Official transcript..... I don't know if it's before enrollment or during application process, none stated they accept unofficial transcript, because sending transcripts from my school internationally is 10k, so 7 schools is like 70k excluding caurier, But on nairaland I keep seeing people applying to 8 to 10 schools, is that how these guys have money, or how does this stuff works?, one need to cut cost oo

For those that applied to more than 5 schools, Did you upload unofficial transcript during application process knowing that the schools stated officials transcript on their website or you paid the required fee for official transcripts to be sent to each schools or how did you guys went around this stuff? I am confused.

Good day guys, please I am finding it hard to get schools in US apart from the top 20 that offer PhD directly from bachelors degree. On google, it brings out only the top schools and I only want to apply to 1 top ranked school, and 2 averagely ranked tier 1 schools.

I just received my I20 on mail, expecting to get the originals by DHL today, but there is an error on the I20, which had another course different from that which is on my letter of admission, but same faculty.

I asked why, the said I shouldn't worry that the error will be corrected when I arrive. Are there any implications to this? Should I insist they change it?

I am asking to check my chances of getting one, as I feel I might be at a disadvantage due to the fact that I don't have a recent research experience. The MSC is for career movement into more technical roles (Design/Research). But the scholarship or some sort of funding would be required to make this move.

1. First Class in Engineering.
2. 5 Year production engineering post uni work experience.
3. GRE (320)
4. TOEFL (108)
5. Recent research experience (This is where i have the concern, I don't have a recent research experience, I have 5 year old published paper though).

Please help with pointers and general advice to help build a solid admission case.

Hello house, I have been a silent reader on this forum.Its been a week now that I got a congratulatory message that I have been admitted into Wright State University Ohio.

so far I only got an email with my admission letter attached but haven't heard or seen anything that has to do with how my I-20 form will be processed.Is there anyone on here that applied to the school or know how long it takes to process the I-20 form after one has been admitted.

There is no right answer and no one is going to manufacture one for you. Simply go tell the truth and see what you get.

Herein lies the problem, most serious schools will require a standardized test - even regular Americans take the SAT or GRE/GMAT when applying to US schools. The majority of schools who don't require these tests are either visa mills or schools with minimal application standards simply looking to cash in on the lucrative education business. The VOs know this and are highly suspicious... are you choosing these schools because you truly want to study or simply using them as a vehicle to emigrate to the US?

On the flip side, people who apply to top schools like Duke, Harvard, Princeton, Rice are rarely ever here seeking advice. They don't need it. These are typically people who are serious, know what they want and how to get it. They do not require to be spoon-fed, they go after information they need and typically get their visas approved. Even the relatively few who come here rarely get turned down for visas. The US embassy is not peopled by anti-Nigerians, they simply want to know that they are giving visas to those who are really serious about getting a solid education, not miscreants seeking to scam their way into the country.

I studied Microbiology (3.4 CGP), graduated in 2012 and finished service in 2014. My low grade (which was largely due to entering the university at a very young age), notwithstanding, i am well grounded in microbiology, especially the medical aspect and I had passionate intentions to tow the medical/clinical microbiology line, but getting a job in that field was very difficult as employers preferred Medical Lab scientists to Microbiologists.

So, I became more open minded in my search for a job, resolving to make a lemonade out of whatever lemon life threw at me. In early 2016, i landed a contract job with a global Power Generating firm and since then, i have built competencies and developed experience in business operations at the corporate/organized level. By the side, i am an entrepreneur, operating an e-commerce venture

With almost 3 years experience and cognate skills under my belt, i think it is now time for me to further my education. I am torn between the options of either going for an MBA degree or an M.Sc degree that is related to my course of study. I fancy an MBA degree because, apart from the obvious fact that it is more related to my current ventures, i believe it will afford me more expertise, exposure and network, not mentioning increased chances of being employed in good organizations; But then i have a Microbiology degree and one would expect i further in that field. Both fields appeal to me and i know i will excel effortless in either of them, but then i crave the experienced advise of folks here especially as regards career prospects and solidification of my visa application.

Also, i am keen on a foreign degree and topping my list are US, Canada and Germany. But then, my considerations are affordability (i have mapped out 4m for this venture) and chances of working alongside schooling to sustain myself while schooling. I presently have Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, in view, especially because of their low tuition fees. But then, i will appreciate more advise for experienced people here.

I'll advice you go alone first. Someone I know who went recently with dependent was not approved. Transcript was perfect, fund was surplus. She'll serve as your home tie.
