I am a newbie here, I need huge advises as I was told Nairaland is the best place to sort out most mind disturbing issues .The u.s thread is so much I don’t know where to navigate or start from. I am planning to pursue a master degree in u.s with the following educational details course-electrical electronic engineering g.p-3.63/5. Intending to study masters in electrical engineering or mba ,No Gre,toefl or any standardized test yet, may I know if I can get any u.s schools for fall 2018 since we are already in April ? If yes, I would appreciate school suggestions .I would appreciate everyone’s opinion. Gracias
For Fall 2018? Fall is in August and we are in April now and having in mind you don't have any standardized tests yet. Additionally, make up yor mind on what you want to study, both course you listed up there don't require the same requirements for Admision. Just plan towards Fall 2019 or Spring 2019, no point rushing and end up wasting money

I believe if your resumption date is on the 25th of August, you can have your interview anytime from early May. I believe the rule is 120 days before resumption date and not 90 days.
Yeah I think its 120 days, my bad. cc amaleo just calculate backwards

Hello house. I've been admitted and my school is resuming in the first week of September.
I've the following questions;
1. Please when can I go to the embassy for my visa, given by resumption date?
2. Is it advisable my sponsor transfer the funds for at least a year into my own personal account, so I can take my statement to the embassy instead of his?
3. If one has admission from multiple schools, do you choose one and defer the others or can you accept all, but pick the one you want for the embassy?
Thanks in anticipation. Pls this is very urgent.
Pls to all the experienced gurus here, irrespective of how you respond, kindly attend to my questions.
Thanks again
1) Within 90 days before the start day on your i20, for example if the start date on your i20 is August 30, you can go to the embassy anytime between June 1 and August 25.
2) No its not, that is a red flag. What matters is good inflow and outflow of cash and not a huge lump sum.
3) Choose one and decline the others except you have plans of transferring to any other schools

yes I wish it was personal statement too(but the current balance is low) he told me the money has been transferred since late Jan, to the company alc to run some projects but he still have a good balance in the company's alc ,what can I do in this kind of situation please huh
1) Look for an Uncle's or Aunt's if your i20 didn't expressly state your Dad's name as sponsor, then again be ready to say why your Uncle or Aunt is your sponsor
2) Go with your Dad's company account and be ready to defend why the company is sponsoring you. Again no hard rule to this.

hello house ,

please can someone use one's father's company account statement at the US embassy in case his personal account don't have any good amount inflow and outflow in the past 6months and the balance is lowhuh?
Yes but you will have a lot of convincing to do on while the company is sponsoring you. Its better you get a personal account

Hey guys,
I just got my white paper today. (Thanks to God)

However, the vo withheld my bank statement in view of assessing its credibility. I want to know, if there's a consequent ban, would I be notified,? How would I know their decision? Whether good or bad?

Thanks
If the SOA is real, let your mind be at peace but if not..You might not see a visa in your passport when you go to pick it up and you might be banned for 10 years or so

Hi guys! I greet you all....Quick one....For those that have applied to TAMUC in the past....do they require transcript evaluationhuh Will Mode of Instruction letter suffice in place of TOEFL. I am applying for MBA. I await your prompt response...Thanks
You should be asking TAMUC this question. What was applicable two years ago might not be applicable again.Go on the school website and email your department secretary or graduate coordinator. They are the ones that can give you the best answers, take charge of your future yourself.

Hello house, I applied to university of Cincinnati, and I was given admission without funding but I went for the visa interview yesterday, My visa was granted:::: my problem is, i don't know what to do since I don't have the fund to start even for the first semester:::: now I have the Visa but confused: please I need your candid advise cause I'm a confused man already
Your best bet right now after exploring all options is to defer your admision and make proper financial planning.Dont let anybody deceive you that you can hustle your way.

Yes, It's 3.08 on a scale of 5, food science and nutrition is a STEM course. I currently work as a quality control personnel in a food and beverages firm. So i intend to boost my educational profile. Coming back to Nigeria after graduation?? It depends on the offer i get after my studies
Okay, asked so you dont do a course that you wont be able to get a longterm job after graduation or at least OPT. Goodluck

3.08 will fit in from midtier (midranked) schools to low Ranked schools. Your options are good. Just do some bing or google search. Just don't look at top schools like Harvard or Princeton. USA has pretty many schools. And the rankings "sometimes" is just politics in my opinion.
No its not. The standard/quality of education is different, intensity of research is different..alot of differences. The difference in MIT,UT,Gatech,Virginia Tech,Bekeley etc and the low ranked schools for engineering is so glaring even to a blind man.

Hello house, i wish to apply for M.sc Food & nutrition Jan 2019 or Sept 2019. My CGPA is 3.08 ( Biochemistry 2014) and my GRE score is 296 ( I wrote my GRE Jan 2017). I need three schools where my CGPA would fit in. Thanks
3.08 on a scale of what? If its 5, you might need to rewrite GRE to improve your profile. I know this is not my business but what will Msc food and nutrition do for you? You plan to go back to Nigeria after graduation? Is this a STEM course? You might want to consider doing a course that is in STEM

Hello friends.
In sequel to my post last week, where I ask the house to be help me in searching for three(3) Universities that are good in phd electrical engineering. I have tried to find the following schoolsad1) University of Texas- Austin.(2) University of Maryland (3) Tennessee Technological University (4) University of Michigan- Ann Arbor (5) Prince University (6) Purdue University - West Lafayette. please I need d house to help me reduce it to three(3) University. Thanks n GOD bless u all for your efforts in helping humanity.
Apart from number 3, all the schools you have up there are in top 20 Engineering schools, you need to tell us what your profile looks like. Do you have research experience? Is your work experience related to what you intend researching on? What is your GRE score? All this questions will help whoever want to advice you. Top schools are pretty selective when it comes to Phd so you need to put in a good application. We humans have dreams and its okay to dream but then you need to be realistic too. You can apply to 10 schools in top 20 and still get rejected, so you need to select your schools realistically. Again, everything is not all about GRE score, research experience and good LOR maters alot, I know someone who got into Virginia Tech(ranked8) Civil Engineering Phd with a GRE of 307.

I've a 30-minute Skype Interview scheduled for next week with the department..I applied for PhD in pharmaceutical science..
Please what are the likely questions? How best can I prepare for this interview?
Thanks
First be ready to talk about yourself, research and work experiences, why you are interested in the research group, why you want to pursue Phd, Long term goals, classes you have taken in your undergrad and masters if applicable, most Phd interviews are just trying to know if you will be a good fit. Keep your mind at rest, try to pronounce your words well and slowly or else you will repeat yourself more than once

Do you have a masters degree already? What field are you in? Whats your profile like? If you are in the STEM field, You have about 90% - 95% chance of getting funded if you get admitted. Try to read this thread from the page 1, this link will also be of great help http://graddecision.org/

Hello everyone. I recently got an i20 to study in the USA (Fall admission 2018). I paid my SEVIS today through guy on nairaland who helped me (without the Seme border hassle). However on my i20 it says "Early admission date" is July 15th and "Lessons begin on" August 23. When can I apply for the visa? And when am I supposed to travel if given a visa? I really need help on this subject. Gurus and those who are currently in the USA, I need your guide on this. I've got all my documents ready for the visa application.

PS: I created this topic because no one has really dealt with this issue on nairaland. Please help guys!!!
No one has? That's a blatant lie to give because you feel they will tell you to read the thread. Anyways you can apply for VISA within 90 days to start of your program and you cant enter the US before July 15th and after August 23.

Start by reading this thread from page 1, you will get all the information you need. That is why we encourage people to ask whatever questions they have here rather than in the pm. Many people have asked this question over and over again, all you need to do is read from the answers people provided for them.

Hello LagosismyHome,

So I mailed and got the attached response.

If only they knew I don't eat much lol.
It seems you are not even taking this serious. You need to ask them if Tuition is waived or what percentage of Tuition is waived? If its an Assistanship, how much is the stipend worth per month? If you don't know all this, this might derail your plans if you decide to attend the school. From the look of things, it seems you will just earn a stipend and still pay the full Tuition per semester. Even at that, you need to know the numbers of hours you will be working per week.

Hello house, I am new around here and would probably get lost trying to search through the pages for an answer to my question so i'll just ask and hope someone will be kind enough to help/advise me.
I graduated from the department of ict with the networking option and i want to go for a masters but in a dilemma whether to go for networking still or just go into software( i feel the ict world is shifting more towards software...its a feeling lol) or any other better option. also i would like a recommendation from anyone of a good ict/computer science school in the usa. Also whats the first step i need to take and if i start processing now, can i go by september this year or i will need to wait till next year? So many other questions but i hope this little can be answered by someone. Thanks
1) Only you know what your interests are and what you really want to do, so it wise you think deep. In my opinion anything computer science or IT is very good in the US 2) No one can recommend schools for you, you need to put in some work yourself by researching for schools and you can come here to ask for opinions about the school if anyone has any first hand info or no. However, most ranked schools in computer science are good. Here is a link to school rankings https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwKmQy59LeEpUW5tbEZhRHJmR1U check each school website to see which of them you would like to attend based on your criteria. 3) You cant meet up with Fall 2018 anymore, Plan towards Spring 2019 (Jan) or Fall 2019 (August). For your own good, read this thread from the beginning, its just about 136 pages.

Thanks Sir for your reply.... Question please, you mention "total expenses in a year" what if $35k is in the financial statement and the total living and tution fee cost for a year is lets say $30k. And its a two year program meaning a grand total of $60k.
Wont the VO ask how i will be able to fund the remaining one year of the program??
No they are not particular about the total fees for 2 years but you must personally have a plan on how you intend to pay. A statement of account of a little above the total fees for one year is all that is needed at the embassy for visa interview.

H before we talk about funding, will the money be enough to get Pass the proof of financial independence during Visa application after getting the MPH admission?
I heard you must be able to prove to the VO that you can sustain yourself. Is $35,000 a good amount to prove financial stability.
Its all depends on your total expenses for a year. Its usually stated on the i20, that is what the VO is going to base his/her judgement. On the average its about $30000 - $45000 per year depending on yhr state and school
