A friend of mine pleaded with me to ask the guru's in naidaland this question. He said he he gave an agent a fake weac result slip for a first degree program in usa , mean while he said all the detail are correct except the age were he had to bit it down to 21 on the waec slip, he said the score and the grades were not tempered with,he only did it to reduce his age. He said hope it will not affect him. Please instant response to know if he should call the agent now now
Lol. His date of birth will surely be on his i20 and the problem will start when his passport date of birth and other documents do not correlate with the i20. Its always good to always be truthful and be consistent. Its hard to tell lies and be consistent.

You never can tell where it will bite back. Lastly this question is funny because I don't think you expect anyone to support this act on a public forum. Not everytime we have to keep washing our dirty linen in public for VOs to see, this surely will make visa scrutiny harder. Its better to be rejected visa than be banned due to misrepresentation.

Good Evening NL, I'm 22 years old with a bachelor degree in Geology. I've decided to go for another degree in Computer Science and I was offered admission. I've been refused a B1/B2 visa before together with my parent but when they decided to go without me, they were issued a VISA. They both travelled together, my dad stayed in the US and my mom came back to Nigeria. She has been travelling back and forth until recently when she was invited for reinterview about my dad and her VISA was revoked and was told to reapply on her own. Now I'm filling my DS-160 and there's a field about the information of my father which asked if he's in the US. Right now I filled it as YES and stated is Legal Status as Non-immigrant. I just want to know if it's the right thing to do and it won't blow back on my face. Moreso, my mom will be covering all financial expenses.
Any other information you feel I should know would be much appreciated also.
Thanks
Your Dad's sin will most likely be used against you. There is a reason your mom's visa was revoked. Your Dad didnt fulfil the requirements of his visa, the VO will most likely think you will do the same. However, if you don't give it a try you have lost. If you do, you can only win or lose. Also if you decide to keep mum about your Dad in the application, that will bite back in the future

Fallacy! I never knew there is a real and fake 1st class. Dont make yourself feel good by down playing the achievement of others. What you wrote up there is BS.

What do you think my chances are of getting accepted?
Why Msc? If I were you I will be aiming for phd toxicology and I believe the job prospects is good.

In my case, I got an offer on campus, but I couldn't start the job until the beginning of the next semester, so I got a job outside as a math tutor in an elementary school, my i20 classified the job as CPT despite the fact that semester was still ON. Maybe things have changed within 2017 and now.
Hmm..maybe your program requires you to actually do a CPT before you attain 1 full year. That is the only explanation, I still believe you cant do a CPT before being a student for one full year. Also doing a CPT for more than one year makes you in eligible for OPT. https://www.internationalstudent.com/study_usa/way-of-life/working-in-the-usa/

During summer, if you get a job like internship position. Take the offer for employment to International Student, and ask for approval. You will be given a new i20 and it will state your new offer and the expiry date. Also if you don't have up to 20 hours of job per week on campus at the moment, you can get a job outside, but the job must relate with your major, and the hours you work in total from campus and outside job should be 20 hours.
Where did you get the info in bold? I believe this is not true except the laws have change which I doubt. As an international student you cant work off campus whether it relates to your course or not. You can only work off-campus if you apply for CPT (summer) which is after 1year of full study or if you file for economic hardship. At no point must you be found working off-campus if its not any of the cases above

There is this saying that says ''If we don't fight we have failed, but if
we fight we can either fail or succeed''. So forget the tuition part for
now and put in some work. First, you need to decide on the course
you want to study, To save you some stress start from this
website http://graddecision.org/ to know the application process, So
step 1) Decide on the course you want to study 2) Search for schools
using a) www.msinus.com (open this website with a laptop, you
should see a list of school and ranking for some of the most
common courses, you can start from there
b) www.gradschools.com c) www.google.com (you can just type 'msc
in bla bla in the us in google' d) www.usnews.com e) www.4icu.org .
3) check up the website of the schools you find, to see the
requirements. most schools will require GRE and some will require
both gre and toefl . 4) Register for standardize exam and take it. You
can register for gre as soon as you are ready and prepared to take
the exam. Its done online at www.ets.org. You can also get all the
information you need about the exam on the website. You will get
adequate materials to prepare for the exam in this dropbox I
createdhttps://www.dropbox.com/sh/t9ot6d07hp1lkm7/
AADL_dTihjEvNBRCBsmAcoXja?dl=0
TOEFL is an English test required by some US universities. though,
some schools waive due to the fact that Nigeria is an Anglophone
country.
For toefl, all you need are the speaking noteful videos in the link
below, the ets toefl guide is enough to ace the exam for other
sections. Just download the toefl ETS Guide from there website and
the simulation test.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/45tvc3ifi8wh8sh/

As for the Tuition, if you have good results (GRE, GPA, Toefl), SOP
and LOR; US schools do offer assistanship to graduate students. This
can either be Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant or
Administrative Assistant. Depending on the school, if you get an
assistantship, your Tuition will be waived and you will also be paid a
monthly stipend that can take care of your living expenses. One
advice, once you shortlist schools, send emails to the grad cord of
the schools and ask specific questions relating to that course and
funding opportunities, be very explicit.
Lastly, there are basically 2 admission session in the US, Spring
(Jan) and Fall (August). Schools admit more students in Fall, so Its
advisable you plan towards Fall 2018. If you plan to resume in fall
2018, make sure you submit all your application documents before
ending of Dec 2017. If you don't give it a trial, you will never know.My
philosophy in life is to always do my part, with that I don't get to
regret later. Above all, if you believe in God,pray to him..if not, good
for you.
You know plagiarism is a big crime in the US right?

@gboyegaD I'm 31, the course I choose has only one university that under takes it here in Nigeria and it's poorly managed and equipped.. If I travel and Acquires the knowledge and get back to Nigeria don't you know I'm one of a kind? Secondly, why will I use fake documents when I know the the implications.
Thirdly, won't I be denied if I change my school or programme because the system will show my log making the VO think I'm desperate
Fouthly, do you think TOLFEL will be more preferably?
Do you think my age is an obstruction...

I wanted that 2year course because I want to get back to Nigeria and engage in my family business using that acquired knoweldge to create a good venture for my family ...
If your advice is good... I will go for mid-western State University, the same course bio-medical and bio-medical engineering ...

I just don't know what else to do, I deferred the admission to fall 2019, but if from my previous comment you can point out other errors it will be of great help

Thanks
Just forget the admision and apply to a proper University. It will be a herculean task to convince a VO with your age. Additionally, a 2 year diploma will do nothing exceptional for you in Nigeria. That story won't cut it.

Every dick and harry will pick a Nigerian 4year degree graduate over an American 2years community college degree. You need to actually plan properly. To be honest with you, you seem like an immigrant, if I can see that, a VO can too, more or less a trained one.

You may need to read my earlier post again where I mentioned that I took charge of the visa process once I came in contact with this student Thread. In fact, I filled and submitted my DS form. Since he had chosen CALMU before I knew about this Thread, the best I could do was work with what I have and get better prepared. CMU may be young but their MBA program has consistently ranked top 10 in San Diego since 2011.
I quite agree that CMU isn't in the league of best/average Unis (no doubt about that), but beside my choice of school, is there any other thing you could deduce from my transcript?
Because it has ranked in top 10 in San diego does not mean its a good program. San Diego is just a city and not even a state so how many mba programs are in the ranking? Limiting the ranking of the program to a city tells you all about it. Even though no one knows the future but I believe going to a school like CMU for MBA is not really a wise decision if you ask me. Additionally, I think the problem is that your program has an online version, every thinking VO will assume why you didnt enrol for the online version. VOs are different, but if I were you I would apply to a better program

great stuff you guys do and great learning place.

My visa interview is early October for Spring 2019. I am a little concerned about two things
1) Two of my friends are standing in as my sponsors. I see a lot of people say uncle but these guys are actually my close friends and from a different tribe. When asked about my sponsors, it is ok to tell the interviewer that my sponsors are my friends?

2) I submitted 2 bank statements for my i20, on my i20 just one name of the sponsor is on it instead of two different names. School says it's ok like that. Is it really ok to have two different bank statements but just one name on the i20?

Thanks.
I am not God neither am I a VO but you will have a hard time convincing a VO that your friends will ACTUALLY sponsor you. However, do you have assistantship? Are your friends really going to pay your tuition? How do you plan to pay Tuition and fees?

Do you know what GA is? GA is graduate assistanship, which means that you will be working for the university or department and getting paid a stipend. How can you be working for an organization in Nigeria from abroad while studying? If possible, its illegal. Secondly, maybe you meant you got a scholarship from an organization in Nigeria, In that case it has nothing to do with your school so it can't be included on the i20. The best you can do is to show proof to the VO.

If he wants to go to graduate school and do excellently well, no material is too much to read. He would do good reading from the foundations and also understand how things have evolved. Most importantly, he might even read testimonials of success that might challenge him and the bring out the best of him.
Reading part 1 to 14 is waste of precious time that he can put into something else. One part is enough to give the much needed insight. Infact the earlier parts are obsolete.

Please help me with your experience and guidance. I'm a serving corp member billed to pass out later this year and I am highly determined to start my application for masters study in the USA unfortunately, I have no experience or idea on how to get started but I so much believe this tread will help greatly.

I'm a first class graduate in statistics and I am open to studying related courses in statistics, mathematics, data science and business.
What do I need you to help with?

Sincerely, I need all the details to get started.
I'm so lost and confused and I need someone to just help me with how to start the process.
Cheapest school to choose, requirements to put together, necessary documentation for visa processing, fund requirement information etc.

I look forward to an helpful contribution.
Thank you and I wish everyone great success.
First you need to decide on the course to study based on your future plans. I don't really know much about the prospect of mathematics but I believe data science is booming right now and the prospect of job seem high. Do your own research and check the bureau of labor statistics website to see things for yourself. Graduating with a first class will really make things a little easy for you if you complement it with a good GRE say >315. Please don't go and apply to one nonsense school with your first class, dream big, aim high and do your part. However spread your risk from high ranked schools to mid ranked. Forget about cheapest schools and concentrate on getting a good GRE score. All things being equal, You shouldn't pay a dime for tuition if you get a good GRE score to complement your GPA. All your energy right now should be on researching for good schools and how to get a good GRE score. The post below will give you an insight on the procedure.

Experienced guys in the US, do you think it is advisable to apply for Employment Authorization Document (EAD) on the basis of financial challenge? Will this not come back to haunt you when you want to renew your visa? I'm thinking that once the visa officer discovers that you applied for EAD on the basis of economic challenge, he or she will conclude that you do not have enough financial resources to support yourself, therefore your visa renewal application may be denied? What do you think, guys? Has anyone here applied for EAD on the basis of financial challenge?
I won't be surprised if you are the only one with this scenario. First, most people who might have used this are typically masters students who might not to need to renew their visas before the completion of their programs. Secondly, this is quite dicy because no one can say for sure or not if this will be a problem. If I were you baring any emergency, I will stay put in the US till I finish my program and able to change status. You don't need a visa to be legal in the US as a student so far you have a valid i20 and your sevis is in status.

I suppose you don't know what EAD is and means. It is given to residence of the US only. You have to be inside the US to apply for. The categories of people who can apply for it include K-1 fiance visa holders, asylees, people with a pending application for adjustment of status (a green card) spouses of various visa holders, people with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), F-1 students experiencing economic hardship or seeking optional practical training (OPT), and so on.
