nairalanda1: And they pay for those subsidies with taxes, borrowing and high taxes.
Shey you want to pay tax at the rate those abroad countries pay? You go see shege. (I have people abroad. When they talk about the tax they pay to the central government, before even the city and other taxes they have to pay self...)
1. Nigeria is going to borrow until your government and nigerians start supporting polices that diversify our economy and also raise our tax to gdp.
2. Hospitals are being built. And salaries are being paid. But the income issue still remains, and anyway, it is one thing to build hospital, another to pay mainteance costs on the hospitals.
And you will see cenemet companies go under or crash because they cannot pay for their operational, maintenance and upgrade costs, as well as staff salary
Plus is it government that cannot pay electricity subsidy (in one year they paid 75 billion out of 1.1 trillion naira that was supposed to be subsidy payments for the electricity sector) that would pay subsidy for cement?
Would you want government to be setting your prices for cement? Ya think that cement costs remain static, and you think that the fact that there is no electricity and poor transport would not drive it up?
You want to load us up with debt o.
And you want Nigerians to pay UK level of taxes? You want Nigerians to in addition pay municipal taxes in the cites of up to 200 pounds monthly?
Ya think UK gets the money for subsides froms selling oil and taking loans only?
Chai!
Stop lying to yourself
I have tasted both world
You pay tax here, pay for xformer, electric pole yet still sleep in darkness n drive on bad roads
Tax payers money work well over there. Every government make money from income tax , Nigeria isnt an exception. Infact Nig borrowed from pensions savings n international banks with nothing to show for it. Dont think increase in income tax will change anything
Increase in electricity tarrif didnt improve light
Increase in the price of meter, didnt make meter available...still expecting my meter
chicfarmer: I fully support a return of fuel subsidy to Nigeria. Here is how I'll explain it to a primary six pupil. If you don't understand this, then our politicians will just keep sharing our wealth amongst themselves while we wallow in poverty.
Imagine that you had a big Mango tree in your compound and that tree produced much mangoes. You decide to pluck and sell the mangoes but you have kids and family members living with you, you'll definitely put some aside for your household consumption and then take the rest to the market for sale.
In the same way, Nigeria produces about 2m barrels per day of crude. Government should remove say 500,000 barrels for local refining and consumption and sell that to dangote at 50% while they export the remaining 1.5m barrels at international prices for foreign exchange.
Dangote then refines the 500,000 barrels set aside for local consumption and then sells/distributes it locally at 50% of the current prices of petrol and other products derived therefrom. Simple.
Anybody telling you that this model is not possible is simply trying to deceive you so that they can continue sharing and chopping our money.
The only thing the common man benefits from Nigerian government is subsidy. A mother that harvests her mangoes and takes everything to the market without setting some aside for her children is a bad mother. As oil producers, we must derive direct benefits from our resources. Anything Short of this is corruption and grand deception.
When the Mango tree is too tall n you rely on the third party to help you pluck them, I am afraid, you dont have the final say on the basket of mangoes harvested
In R9 voice : It's all about getting into the team first, when you make the team, you can tell the coach you will function better as a striker instead of being a gk
nairalanda1: The reverse would take money that could have created more jobs in the refining sector, more indirect jobs, created more export revenue from improved domestic refining, and use it to pay the masses money, that would be used to buy fuel, which would eventually become imported fuel, because our refineries are now gone thanks to subsidy robbing them of profits...which would in turn lead to debt that would affect...the same masses.
Nothing is cheap in this world. You do not have to be an APC supporter, or a supporter of any politican to realize that.
Even in abroad, there is subsidy. It doesnt stop creation of jobs. Dont let them scam you
With subsidy removal, Nigeria is still borrowing, no jobs, no hospital built cos the Govs are cashing out
If there is subsidy on cement, you will see how housing will be affordable
In the UK, we have subsidy on gas, electricity, hospital bills etc yet jobs are being created and people can afford much more with little they earn
DesignSage4u: In the past, when we used to have only Java and Symbian phones as internet-accessible devices, the designs were crazy. They were thrilling. One phone after another, you would see beautiful designs. We had a lot of beautiful designs at that time, even though most of the phones were made by one core company, which was Nokia. But the designs were great.
And when BlackBerry came, the designs were also very, very thrilling. But in this age of smartphones, phone designs are not really impressive. It is as if the companies are not really doing much in terms of phone body design. Yeah, they are not doing much. It is mostly like, okay, one brand comes out with a design, and other brands copy it, and suddenly all the phones start looking alike.
I remember there was a time when I liked a company's design so much. A phone that particularly thrilled me a few years back was when Infinix released the S5 Pro. Yeah, I think it was the S5 Pro, where the front camera would pop up whenever you wanted to use it. And when you were done using it, it would crawl back inside, like a snail pulling itself back into its shell. I liked it so much. Some other designs that have impressed me are in-screen fingerprint sensors and in-screen front cameras. Yeah, in-screen front cameras. I particularly liked the one on the Infinix Hot 7 Lite. I'm not a fan of Transsion devices, though, I just have to give honour to whom it is due.
These days, I don't know if it is because I'm a graphic designer, but I think Samsung is still trying to outshine its competitors when it comes to phone body design. And the funny part is, that's why I said it is probably because I'm a graphic designer, they are not doing too much. Their designs are very minimalistic.
When you take a look at the S series, you'd realize that their designs are very minimalistic. But I just like them. I just like them. They are very sleek. When you look at the back of their phones, they stand out amidst other phones. iPhone as well. When you talk about phone body design, iPhone is trying, but Samsung, in my opinion, comes first.
And I think it is just not like the past. It is just not like the era of Java and Symbian phones. Meanwhile, I'm not saying this for Samsung because I'm a Samsung fan. No, never used a Samsung device, and I don't plan to use one. Again, I just have to give honour to whom it is due.
So, let me know: what other phone brands do you think are doing well when it comes to their phone body designs? Let us know in the comments.
After trying all manner of designs...research has shown that the trending design is the most durable
bigpriik: I am an Igbo guy, but I have spent most of my life here in Lagos so I can speak Yoruba fluently. I am educated and maybe slightly above average in IQ.
I notice this fetish recently I don’t like Those toosh, English speaking educated girls Iike me. I prefer them beautiful and razz like the ones that sell paraga in Lagos bustops I love stubborn and aggressive women they give me they exude this sexy vibes I find so cute.
I once dated this fine Yoruba girl called Rokibat, first time I approached her she said she was cool and well reserved but when she sh showed me her rugged side after she had a fight with a friend I fell in love with her.
She even asked me to forgive her bad behavior that she will change but I told her it’s ok.
I need help seriously.
You really need help cos those girls are carriers of diseases
CharlesCNG: Here is an overlooked part of Nigeria's food crisis: WHERE YOU LIVE can determine how much you pay to eat.
NBS's July 2026 data show urban inflation at 16.12%, compared with only 13.77% in rural areas. Month-on-month, urban prices rose 1.90%; rural prices just 0.78%.
Now leave the statistics office and enter the market.
On August 21, a large yam at Gboko Main Market in food-producing Benue cost about ₦1,200. At Lugbe Market, Abuja? ₦2,500. Same unit. More than DOUBLE. Medium yam was ₦900 in Gboko and ₦2,000 in Abuja. Rice shows it too. A 50kg bag of Nigerian rice was ₦45,000 in Gboko versus ₦57,000 in Lugbe.
And then comes the tomato. A small basket was recorded at ₦16,000 in Kano's Dawanau/Yan Baka market but ₦30,000 in Lugbe, Abuja. In Lagos, recent tracked prices have been substantially higher still.
Did the yam become bigger while travelling from Benue? Did the tomato acquire a university degree between Kano and Abuja? Of course not. THE JOURNEY ACQUIRED A PRICE.
Transport. Fuel. Bad roads. Vehicle maintenance. Storage. Spoilage. Handling. Market charges. Middlemen. Security risks. That is the hidden tax between FARM and PLATE. This is why heavily urbanised consumption centres such as Lagos and Abuja cannot solve food affordability simply by telling people to farm more.
They depend enormously on food produced somewhere else. A city can therefore have plenty of food in its markets and STILL have an affordability problem because getting that food there is expensive.
And this is precisely why food logistics deserves to become a much bigger part of Nigeria's food-inflation conversation.
Building roads is food policy. Cold storage is food policy. Rail freight is food policy. Efficient wholesale markets are food policy. Reducing post-harvest losses is food policy.
And Lagos's Fresh Food Hub experiment therefore deserves particularly close examination. Because Nigeria has a remarkable contradiction: THE FARMER CAN COMPLAIN THAT FOOD IS TOO CHEAP WHILE THE CITY DWELLER COMPLAINS THAT THE SAME FOOD IS TOO EXPENSIVE.
Both may be telling the truth.Somewhere between them, the supply chain ate the difference.
Cost of transportation....As goods move farther away from the source with demands so high....expect price to go up
Lovelink1991: A regretting single mother has threatened to laid curse on her daughter for disobeying her order in the house.
According to the mother who told the daughter that she knows that she never requested that she should be born so that will not give her the right to disobey her orders.
People die everyday in every sector and the rest move along
When Alex n that Asaba guy died igbowood n asabawood moved along
Even when Yar adua died...Nigeria moved along
2. Osoba case is different, she isolated herself from friends n family looking for love elsewhere...unfortunately, she got abused, depressed and died eventually.
I think mod should vet every article before bringing them to the front page
“Cows Are Used for Money Laundering!” — VDM Says at the NBA Annual General Conference.
VeryDarkMan (VDM) has sparked controversy at the NBA Annual General Conference with a series of explosive claims about insecurity, politics and Nigeria’s security system. He alleged that cows are being used as a channel for money laundering in Nigeria, while also questioning who truly benefits from the country’s prolonged insecurity.
In his remarks, VDM argued that insecurity has become intertwined with politics and claimed that government officials, security agencies and senior military officers benefit from the crisis.
Goo0dHardDick: I personally feel men don't benefit anything in relationship from women.
Men do all the work in the relationship, he approaches, faces the rejection, strive to prove his love, give his attention, money, feeds her, showers her with gifts etc.
infact whenever a girl is going to see a man, that guy must be prepared because money is going to leave his pocket one way or the other!
Men, Kindly tell us what have you benefited from all your relationships with women?
Kukutente23: You claimed a body cam was used for the video recording Now you're mouthing some nonsense about general modus operandi Which one you dey? high abi bipolar?
I said their modus operandi not this video
The video was an interview done based on the victim narrative. Investigative journalism is carried out by insider with body cam as evidence backing their claims
Kukutente23: You told me nonsense Do you have data to watch the video or I should borrow you? The girl was interviewed at the beginning of the video with the camera staring directly at her face The video of her marriage was shot from 3 different angles. Can you explain how a body camera is shooting from 3 different angles and even has a fourth for the outside recording? Use grey matter bro That's a staged video CNN is notorious for fake news!
