Please let's end this kind of argument on nairaland, it's obvious both sides are just saying what they feel and not facts |
chiipink:The thing is for you to understand the point he's trying to make, you've to understand that only easterners, southerners and those from the middle belt axis understand that nigeria has minority tribes, to majority of yorubas and hausas(no offense to them o) they believe the minority tribes in the middle belt are sub tribes of hausa and the ones in south south are subtribes of igbo, so they will see any good or bad calabar thing as an igbo thing |
Even me that is urhobo I tot igbo list was more expensive o, from the pics it seems Igbos ve many items on the list but not necessarily expensive items, for the urhobo list i can tell you few of the missing things der, cigar for the youths, more drygin, starch, dryfish, banga spices, canoe(monetized), e. t. c |
Shoe making and chain/wrist watch selling |
outside the topic I like to ask a question, the Jonathan chain usually added wen sewing 'senator' can it be regarded as part of an urhobo/isoko attire? |
YourNemesis:in my opinion o, urhobo/isoko are more connected to the edo languages, next to the ijaw and igbo languages however I personally ve not blived d story dat urhobo came from edo cuz i don't bliv language is the only factor that determines a tribe, there is so much diff btw urhobos and the edo currently, as the urhobo/isoko seem more (to me) lyk aboriginal niger deltans |
ozalogbo:we forget even delta central is not 100% urhobo, there are Ijaws in ughelli south, tsekiris in sapele n ethiope west, maybe even ndokwas, isokos n binis in some parts |
YorubaBigot:I'm urhobo, bcuz of massive immaturity on this forum, I just felt I sud commend you on your mature way of correcting that statement, simple without involving insults or starting e-war , u do well, we are all learners |
Chidifyn77:It may not be ready to contain heavy air traffic like lagos own yet, but it still takes international flights at times, when my aunt was going for pilgrimage they flew from asaba |
Efewestern:I have actually heard similar words btw esan and urhobo, in urhobo/isoko you'll hear edo words, ijaw words, tsekiri words, igbo words, even some Portuguese words |
we just beg u guyz not to derail this thread now, every thread on nl must not be igbo vs somebody, e nor dey tire una? |
SamgoldBaba:Oniovo means brother/sister/family member Doh- can mean well-done, welcome, sorry, please, thank you, greet you, e. t. c so oniovo doh can mean many tinz |
magicjack:This will be easy cuz i live in rivers presently and tbh, though I wont argue that PH is better developed than Warri, i disagree that rivers as a whole is better than delta as a whole, the only diff btw d two is dat in rivers 90% is concentrated in PH while in delta it is spread, oya let's do the comparism Rivers -one international airport -one local airport -two refineries -two seaports -loads of international oil companies -GDP per capital 3,668 dollars -IGR 85billion -Over 5million in population -High standard of living -Good stadium(liberty stadium) -80% of the major higher institutions in rivers are in PH -recreational(SPAR, other malls, pleasure park, Isaac boro park, the zoo, buguma beach, hotels like presidential, novotel, e. t. c) NB-These are mostly in PH while in delta Delta -One international airport, asaba -one local airport, warri -one refinery, warri -two seaports, warri n sapele -loads of international oil companies, warri n sapele -Steel making plant, warri -Transcorp power company- ughelli -Glass making company, ughelli -IGR 49billion -GDP per capita 3,990 dollars -over 4 million in population -High standard of living(though not as high as rivers) -Warri and Asaba stadiums -only 30% of the major higher institutions are in warri, they are evenly spread across asaba, abraka, oghara, agbor, ozoro, ogwashuku, patani, e. t. c -recreational(shoprite in warri n asaba, other malls, abraka resorts, kwale game reserve, escravos beach, hotels like Wellington, golden tulip, excel) Result: well Im not sure which is better but as you can see its a close race no mata d winner |
zinizta:After getting to know more about the language, I discovered that the languages in akwa/cross are not as hard as we think they are, it's cuz they rush wen speaking it dats why it seems hard, it's actually even easier to learn than edo |
ure making a big mistake if ure using asaba to judge delta state as a whole, the fact that it's the capital doesn't mean it's the best city(see anambra, abia n even Nigeria as examples) Last time I checked there are flyovers at Effurun roundabout, Refinery area, Ajamimogha area, then i think one in ughelli, so ure wrong to say delta has 3 flyovers, we don't even see flyovers or skyscrapers as achievements anymore, don't make others look down on us, we are not exactly the best but we're far better than alot of others I still maintain that someone should mention the state they feel is better than delta let's do one on one comparism if they are sure |
they are many more wonderful tourist sites in Nigeria, our leaders are the only reason this country is not better than dubia |
Not writing to mock anyone or tribe, of course any name given by your parents is beautiful and most of them have wonderful n divine meanings, but you must admit many of them are hilarious to hear especially by outsiders, I'm looking at nigerian native names and asking which tribe has the "most powerful" names(lol). I listed the ones I feel take it but u can contribute the ones you know. The nominees are: Edo - I remember one Ehingwawuanghuan Irebhosenobulua from primary school, one of my neighbors is Aigbhovuleghe Imonikheyeleh. I hail o Urhobo/Isoko- Some of their names need strength to call, Chief Dr. Osonobrhuvwenyerhovwoh Akpogheneriomiehmieh, Zesus! Even some of their English names are funny, Survive Umuokoro, Highway Utuama Ijaw- I wonder how they write "Ebitamaraseiyeifah Akpotuboekilebitamarau" on an ID card, na wa, and like urhobo they use to have funny english names, Current Tamunoforiyeh, Market Akpoebi Efik/Ibibio- the chinese of nigeria, the language as strong as their names, Eminiabasieniacot Ikotobongitoroabasi, it's enough to bleed your tongue but they call it with ease like saying ABC. Like I said if you know any other tribe with stronger names(cuz I know the northern tribes have powerful names too) mention them with examples if possible . |
I'm just hearing of this, if it's true then must be due to some misunderstanding in the past, not bcuz omoku pepo or igbo pepo r bad, but even blood brodas have disagreements once in a while, no tribe is saintly |
I'm Waiting for the first Urhobo governor of bayelsa state |
ImperialYoruba:I'm guessing ure not a south southerner, if not u'd ve known it's more complicated than that |
Dis is why I think identification sud be based primarily on nation than tribe, everyone sud b a Nigerian first n 4get all dis yoruba, igbo, urhobo e. t. c because grouping pepo into tribes is going to be tempered by politics n regionally perceptives |
darfay:I b urhobo o, currently live in port harcourt, but i grew up in warri, anyway even when i was in warri i was not going to the village like that we only drive past them when travelling, me sef my urhobo na cut n nail anoda problem I've noticed is the mentality of not only urhobo n isoko pepo, but all south southerners(save for akwaibom/crossriver pepo). Unlike the Yoruba n Igbo, the youths of the SS see their language as sumtin meant 4 d old n undope. It's normal to go a mall or youth party in lagos, ibadan, Akure n hear teens speaking yoruba or to a restaurant or club in enugu, onitsha, owerri n hear teens speaking igbo but u can't go to those places in warri, port harcourt, Benin n hear them speaking their language or even other tribes(yorubas, Igbos, etc) speaking their own language, it feels local to the SSners. Mentality problem, I use to feel that way too until i started travelling and saw that the major tribes didn't share this our menality |
Probz:I've only visited asaba, so what i say may be my opinion and not the fact, but what i've noticed is that the people who speak igbo in asaba are the Igbos coming from the east, the enuani people themselves mostly speak pidgin(especially youths) or speak their dialect when they want to talk to eastern igbos. However in general u'll notice the igbo speaking in asaba is far less than the eastern cities(like onitsha, owerri n enugu the only ones i've visited) like I said, my opinion |
darfay:really? well i only visited oleh n ozoro once long ago, and the oda few villages i've visited in delta it's only the elderly dat speak d language d youths roll pidgin, .While in cities warri, asaba, sapele local language is almost extinct(lol) |
south south and it's people have always been overlooked by the major tribes, the lack of population makes many people even unaware of their existence not to talk of their contributions, I've met many people who confuse famous south people for Igbos or Yorubas, don't be surprised to find out 40% of traders in lagos markets or in corporate firms are southerners who learnt to speak yoruba or igbo for better relating with the people but in truth d south contributes as much as the other regions, if you want to really see them look at the entertainment industry |
my top 5 1.) the minority tribes of the north(most pepo overlook dem cuz deir culture is not well known but u'll be wowed to see the beauty) 2.)the niger delta tribes(just like northern minorities des pepo r also overlooked) 3.)the crossriver/akwaibom tribes(yet anoda overlooked ethnicity, we know of their food n their bed skills, but they have a lot more than that) 4.)The Igbos(unlike the former 3, the beauty of this tribe is well known, i love personally love the culture so much and they were my favourite ethnic group for a long time until i started looking in depth at the other cultures) 5.)The Edos(we know of their beautiful clothes n rich history, but there's also a lot pepo dismiss them for that you'll be surprised to know about them) If you don't agree with the list, you're free to convince me otherwise, but with good points |
yeah right! The name warri was originally given to warri north, warri southwest, n warri south LGs. It's development that brought uvwie, udu n likes to d fold, so many people have forgotten that warri is even more ijaw n itsekiri, and though of the 3 tribes urhobos are the most popular outside delta, they actually have the least claim to warri |
Hybridz:we're talking of ruggedness in states not people, don't put words in my mouth I think its cuz you've not met many SSners (most people don't even know who we are talk less of what we can do) if not you'll know who taught Igbos how to be rugged. Jus try n visit PH or Warri and move round you'll see what i mean |
Hybridz:I get ur point, but even at that you find that those that grew up in south south easily cope outside when compared to how outsiders cope in the south south |
I always dey hear say benin nah one of the oga of pidgin for naija. i know strong port harcourt slangs, warri slangs, even bayelsa ge wicked slangs, but when I reach bini na normal pidgin i dey hear, so Benin peeps make una defend una position, con stone us with beta b-syd slangs |
Oil money should go to Port harcourt, Warri, Uyo, Yenagoa and Asaba. It should be used to provide 24/7 power supply, good drinking water, build 10 lane roads, multi-flyover bridges, international standard schools and hospitals, build international airports, employ millions of people, build world class tourist centers, e. t. c, infact dubai should not be up to places like Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa. But sadly because of deep corruption, the reverse is the case. SMH 4 nigeria |
ChiefAlex:do you know what is population density? oyo has more population than anambra cos it's size is bout 6times that of anambra, but for it's small size it's very populated, that's why it's more crowded |
.
