CrimeSay No To Jungle Justice In Nigeria; Enough Is Enough by fingard02k(op): 5:21am On Nov 17, 2016
IHE OJOOO GBAA AFO;

“Olè! Olè!” renting the air. He runs into the compound opposite us and tries to scale the fence. Hands are clawing fiercely, trying to get a grip. Alas for him, his pursuers get a hold of him. They drag him outside the compound and out into the streets. I don’t know how, but the numbers have suddenly tripled. I don’t know if half the people there even know what crime the apprehended suspect is alleged to have committed. I don’t think they even want to know.

Then the beating begins. Somehow, his clothes have disappeared. Everyone wants to lay a hand on him. Cement blocks are smashed on his head, building lumber, stones, anything at all that is available. Soon he is bleeding, and the call for tyres is made, by whom I know not and then I remembered the very first thing my lecturer; Dr Nnamuchi Obiajulu taught me in ‘Children, Women, Illitrate and the Law’ class

That beyond and above all considerations of race, nationality or creed:

1. The child must be given the means requisite for its normal development, both materially and spiritually;

2. The child that is hungry must be fed; the child that is sick must be nursed; the child that is backward must be helped; the delinquent child must be reclaimed; and the orphan and the waif must be sheltered and succored;

3. The child must be the first to receive relief in times of distress;

4. The child must be put in a position to earn a livelihood, and must be protected against every form of exploitation;

5. The child must be brought up in the consciousness that its talents must be devoted to the service of fellow men.

And so, I asked myself, who failed? The parents? Government or society? I wanted to be numb, but my soul cried out loud for me to ignore the feeling. I am supposed to have been accustomed to pain, but I am a man who has a heart. By implication, pain has a space in my system and no matter how one tries to suppress it, it will definitely find a vent to erupt.

Like voices from the grave, the boy cry out that there “ain’t no love in the heart of the city”. The boy would have pleaded for mercy but they were seen by the bloody men of Lagos as someone that deserved to die.

I may not know what that poor boy faced in the fire; I may not know what the torture and pains he went through. But, I know that some strokes of cane or other stringent actions will have changed his life.

Yes, I know, ‘Jungle justice’ is a product of deep pain from being expressed by citizens because those who are breaking the law are going scot-free. A thief that obtained materials from another fellow at gun point walked freely and even flaunted the wealth ill-acquired to oppress his victims. Anyone who has suffered tends to be unsympathetic to such oppressor. He would definitely guillotine the head of a thief rather than handing over to the police.

I recalled the people in James Ibori’s community celebrating his genius for theft and known criminals walking away with chieftaincy titles in my native Igbo land. Even now, big thieves are in our political offices lording it over us. They steal public funds without any meaningful development in the land, yet they are not given the jungle treatment. But the poor boy suffered because he was not guarded by policemen as our corrupt politicians are protected. That is the kind of country we live in: the poor hurt the poor and the thieves smile to the banks mocking the rest of us.

The killers of the lynched boy must be brought to book. This is important because Nigerians throw caution to the wind when it comes to meting out punishment illegally. The mob killings are becoming a trend in our country. The Aluu Four were not the first to be videoed while being brutalised and killed for unproven offences. We have had similar stories from places like Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, Calabar and so on. Now this 7years old boy.

I know very few may not be able to stomach the mob action, but in such barbarity, when one stands by and watch those that commit the crime without alerting the authority, one is also shares the guilty verdict. True that one man’s voice may not make a different, but one must not wait for someone else to speak up against evil, it requires courage to condemn it and one will find that he is not alone.

The spirit of the boy victims, would surely be calling for justice. I feel I should write a poem to suppress my anger. But could poem have woken the dead from their grave? The best I expect is for government to ensure justice is done to atone for the killing of this young boy… Maka na

BusinessRe: Ifeanyi Ubah Dissociates Himself From 2017 Governorship Campaign Posters by fingard02k(op): 1:42am On Nov 15, 2016

BusinessIfeanyi Ubah Dissociates Himself From 2017 Governorship Campaign Posters by fingard02k(op): 1:41am On Nov 15, 2016
Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah in a statement today dissociates himself from campaign posters that flooded Awka today tagged “Restoration 2017” with his picture and the inscription “Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah for Governor 2017 ” powered by Concerned Anambra professionals.

“Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah ‘s attention was drawn to posters pasted within the state capital,Awka and its environs adorned with the name and Picture of Dr
Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah with an inscription:
‘ Restoration 2017 , Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah for Governor of Anambra State 2017 ‘. And with another inscription on the same poster: “Powered by : Concerned Anambra Professionals”

Let it be well noted that persons doing this do not have the consent of Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and Ubah has distanced himself from such posters even as he urges the general public to discountenance everything connected thereof.

Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah is focusing on finding answers to the disheartening youth unemployment crisis bedeviling our society and which has eaten deep into the fabrics of our system.

Ubah plans to curb this through his numerous employment platforms and windows for now and would not be distracted by the politics of 2017 Anambra

Governorship election and its attendant posters.
While democracy allows for people to take positions on political matters, he frowns at using his name and pictures for politics without his approval as that could be called suspicious behaviour on the part of those behind it.

Those pasting the posters may be trying to express their democratic /political view ,but the truth is that Ubah is still very focused on issues of employment generation through his private sector multi interventionist platforms .

Ubah therefore, dissociate himself from these “posters”, the “message” and the “association” responsible for this unauthorized adventure.

Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah who is also the President of the victorious FCIfeanyi Ubah (Anambra Warriors ) will join the team and fans in celebrating their victory in 2015/2016 FA Cup finals as the Trophy touches down to Anambra State on 16th November 2016 for the first time in the history of Anambra State since its creation, in what will be a statewide victory tour/parade with the trophy and wouldn’t like to be dragged into the posters of 2017 election.

It is also of note that pasting of 2017 Governorship election posters now by anybody, amounts to distraction to H.E Gov Obiano and an act capable of overheating the polity.

Foreign Affairs6 Things Donald Trump Didn’t Say About Africa by fingard02k(op):
Racial tensions have come to the fore during the United States presidential campaign.
Did President-elect Donald Trump really call Africans “lazy fools”?

Lets look at six comments he allegedly made about Africa which are doing the rounds on the internet.

‘Kenyans are conmen’

This quote was attributed to Trump following Kenyan athletes’ historic performance at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, 2015.

At the time, Trump was still promoting a false narrative that US President Barack Obama, whose father was Kenyan, was not born in the United States.
The article seems to take advantage of the news about Kenyan athletes’ win by concocting a quote from Trump about the event.

The article falsely says that Trump referred to Kenyans and Obama as “conmen who dope and cheat on their way to the top”.

‘Africans are lazy fools only good at eating, lovemaking and thuggery'

According to fact-checking website Snopes this claim was first posted on 25 October 2015 on Politica, a fake news website. It was later picked up by blogs and other fake and satirical news websites on the continent.

According to online magazine Slate, a 1991 book about Trump by former employee John O’Donnel relates an incident where the billionaire reportedly blamed the poor performance of a black worker on laziness saying that it was a “trait in blacks”.

Fake news sites have tended to bolster their stories with comments Trump did actually make. So some stories are quite plausible.

In the case of this article the intention seems to be satire. The writers used made-up Trump quotes to criticise African governments. For instance, this false quote attributed to Trump is apparently trying to justify his comments:

“These are people who import everything, including matchsticks. In my opinion, most of these African countries ought to be recolonised again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self governance”.

‘I will lock up Mugabe and Museveni’

This false story currently being peddled by various sites has been revived from a similar piece shared in January, with a threat that Trump would “lock up” the presidents of Uganda and Zimbabwe.

“I want to reiterate here before America’s greatest heroes that I will not condone any dictatorial tendencies exhibited by dictators around the world, especially the two old men from Zimbabwe and Uganda,” the article says.

“Their days are numbered and I am going to lock them up in prison,” it adds.

This is another classic example of people concocting words and phrases to criticise African politicians and put them in the mouth of Trump.

Now that he is set to be the next US president, there are likely to be lots more of these false Trumpisms so don’t believe everything you read.

‘Nigerians to be deported’

A common thread with Trump’s trumped up quotes is that they are inspired by a generic disparaging comment he has made about one group of people, which are then reversioned by fake news sites to appeal to their local audiences.

In this case, the inspiration for the false story came from Trump’s comments about Mexicans and Muslims, which were easily reversioned to capture the attention of Nigerians.

Several websites ran stories based on these made-up quotes:
“American Billionaire and Republican Presidential Front-runner, Donald Trump, has shot a subtle warning to the Nigerian Community in the United States, after he said all Nigerians would be made to leave the country ‘when he becomes President’. He made the ‘threat’ during a rally at Wichita, Kansas.”

Both the quote and the event are fictitious.
Fact-checking site Snopes says: “Trump did not have a rally in Wichita, Kansas, as alleged by the above-quote, at any point in January 2016.”

Pay legal fee for Cecil killer

The killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe last year sparked global outrage as people targeted their anger towards American dentist Walter Palmer who killed the famed lion in a hunt.

A fake story that Trump had pledged to pay Palmer’s legal fees was shared at the time.

‘Go back to Africa if you’re not satisfied with America’

Trump was accused of using innuendoes and name calling during his campaign. He abused, derided and disparaged many people.

These made-up comment were attributed to the president-elect to show that he does not approve of #BlackLivesMatter – a campaign by African-Americans to highlight deadly police shootings.

“If Black Lives Don’t Matter Here Go Back to Africa.
“If I don’t like the food the waitress brings me, I send it back to the kitchen. And I go eat somewhere else,” the false quote by Trump says.

Some of these comments fail in their imagination but have fooled many because they are written in a highly shareable way and they exploit a wide array of Trump’s comments which have upset many groups of people.

SportsSone Aluko Named Championship Player Of The Month For October by fingard02k(op): 11:43am On Nov 11, 2016
Super Eagles and Fulham FC forward, Sone Aluko, has had his fine performances recognised by winning the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for October 2016

Aluko beat off competition from Reading’s Ali Al Habsi, Lewis Dunk of Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle, to emerge the winner.

The former Hull City player was outstanding for Fulham in October, scoring with a lovely solo effort against Barnsley, then had a hat-trick of assists in a memorable display against Huddersfield.

In his reaction, Aluko attributed the award to his Fulham teammates and staff of the club.

“Personally it’s a great feeling to be recognised with this award. It’s a nice feeling to be publicly rewarded for your efforts.

“Ultimately, I think it’s a team award. I wouldn’t get this award if the team weren’t winning and it’s a credit to my teammates and all the staff who have provided me with a platform to play well on.

“The results have gone our way recently and because of this I’ve been able to show my best form,” Aluko said.

And according to Fulham’s manager Slavisa Jokanovic: “I am very happy for Sone getting this award as he has worked hard for the team over the past months, so it is a good reward for him.

“We have seen an improvement to our results of late, so it is also a reflection on the whole team, and I want that hard work to continue so that many of my players will be eligible for this award in future months.”
