H&M under fire for their Coolest Monkey in the Jungle ad.
H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) is under fire for using a black child to model a sweatshirt sporting the phrase "coolest monkey in the jungle."

The image first appeared over the weekend on the British version of the Swedish-based retailer's website.

Upon noticing an advertisement with the photo, social media users erupted in outrage at H&M for what they deemed to be a racist and inconsiderate move.

American percussionist Questlove was among those to object, writing on Instagram (where he has over 1 million followers):

As of Monday morning, H&M had removed the ad from its website, a spokesperson told CNBC, but it continued to sell the hooded top online, although not in the U.S.

"We sincerely apologize for offending people with this image of a printed hooded top," the spokesperson said. "We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do and will be reviewing all our internal policies accordingly to avoid any future issues."

This incident adds to a growing list of retailers going too far with a slogan or imagery. Abercrombie & Fitch, for example, was criticized for selling a shirt depicting the Wong Brothers' laundry service, where "two Wongs can make it white," and "Get Your Buddha on the Floor."

Urban Outfitters once sold a red sweatshirt bearing the Kent State name and what appeared to be a blood splatter. And Zara, owned by Inditex, stirred up controversy when it released a striped blue-and-white children's pajama top with a yellow star over the left chest, resembling uniforms worn by concentration camp inmates during the Holocaust.

The blunder for H&M comes right after the retailer in December reported its biggest drop in quarterly sales in at least a decade. In turn, H&M has trimmed its expansion plans and is even considering closing some locations.

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoons white sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/2 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, thawed
1 cup of fresh or frozen raspberries

1. In a large bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and sugar. In a small bowl, beat together egg and milk. Stir milk and egg into flour mixture. Mix in the butter and fold in the blueberries, Set aside for 1 hour.A

2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle. or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve. EnJoy

WIth over 584,000 deaths due to malaria each year, fighting the mosquito-transmitted disease is a major world health priority. Now, reports Popular Science’s Alexandra Ossola, there’s a new ally in the fight against malaria — Viagra.

A new study shows that Viagra can increase the spleen’s ability to filter malaria from the blood. Ossola explains that once Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite that causes malaria, hits the human body, it “spends one very important [developmental] stage in human red blood cells found in bone marrow.” These blood cells are soft and malleable, which allows them to elude the blood-filtering spleen, which looks for firm or dead blood cells instead.

By bypassing the spleen’s filtering abilities, malaria is able to spread through the blood. But researchers were able to put a stop to that process with Viagra when they learned that the enzyme inhibitor that gives the pill its popular effects stiffens infected blood cells, too. In the lab, they used an artificial spleen to filter infected, Viagra-stiffened blood cells — and learned that they were “less likely to circulate through the spleen.”

The message of hell scares me and gilts me back to reality,it makes me think of life after death & were I would spend eternity. BAUCHI, Nigeria (AP) — A crowd beat to death a teenage girl accused of planning to be a suicide bomber and then set her body ablaze Sunday, according to police and witnesses at a northeastern Nigerian market.

A second suspect, also a teenage girl, was arrested at Muda Lawal, the biggest market in Bauchi city.

A spate of suicide bombings has been blamed on Nigeria's home-grown Boko Haram Islamic extremist group, which wants to enforce strict Islamic law across Nigeria. The group has threatened to disrupt Nigeria's March 28 presidential and legislative elections, saying democracy is a corrupt Western concept.

In Bauchi, the two girls aroused suspicion by refusing to be searched when they arrived at the gate to the vegetable market, said yam vendor Mohd Adamu. People overpowered one girl and discovered she had two bottles strapped to her body, he said. They clubbed her to death, put a tire doused in fuel over her head and set it on fire, he said.

It seems doubtful the girl was actually a bomber as she did not detonate any explosives when she was attacked, said Police Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Haruna. He described her as the victim of "mob action carried out by an irate crowd."

Recently some girls as young as 10 years old have been used to carry explosives that detonated in busy markets and bus stations, raising fears that Boko Haram may be using some of its hundreds of kidnap victims in bomb attacks. It's unclear whether such girls detonate explosives themselves or whether the bombs are controlled remotely.

President Goodluck Jonathan last week condemned the Boko Haram insurgents for choosing soft targets and said the series of bombings are a response to the Nigerian military's recent success in seizing back a score of towns that had been in the hands of the extremists for months.

A multinational military force including Nigeria's neighbors is being formed to stop Boko Haram's attacks outside Nigeria's borders.

Some 10,000 people died in Nigeria from Boko Haram's violence last year, compared to 2,000 in the first four years, according to the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations, and some 1.5 million people have been driven from their homes.

Who didn't eat ramen noodles multiple times a week during college? Unfortuantely, the habit could come with some serious health consequences: A new study from The Journal of Nutrition shows that consumption of instant noodles—precooked noodle-based meals you make by adding boiling water or heating in the microwave before eating—may increase the risk of a scary condition called cardiometabolic syndrome, which in turn can lead to heart disease, diabetes, or stroke.

Since Asian populations eat high quantities of instant noodles, Baylor University researchers looked at dietary information from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey IV from 2007 to 2009. They identified two major eating patterns: the "traditional dietary pattern" (TP), high in rice, fish, veggies, fruit, and potatoes; and the "meat and fast-food pattern" (MP), high in meat, soda, fried food, and convenience foods like instant noodles and ramen. Not surprisingly, the MP was associated with higher obesity rates and bad cholesterol levels, while the TP was associated with better blood-pressure readings and a lower risk of obesity—but neither showed a clear link to the risk of developing cardiometabolic syndrome.


However, when researchers examined the numbers for instant noodle consumption in particular, they found that consuming the noodles at least twice per week was associated with a 68 percent higher incidence of metabolic syndrome among women, even after adjusting for other factors like sodium intake, estrogen use, and waist circumference. Consuming noodles once a week was associated with a 26 percent higher prevalence of the condition. This relationship didn't exist men.

Researchers think the increased risk is likely the result of the high calories, refined carbs, saturated fat, and sodium content typically found in instant noodles. Women in particular might be susceptible to these negative health effects because of hormones that affect women disproportionately and metabolic differences. "The end has come," I thought to myself. ” I'm going to die because of "ojukokoro" covetousness. May be the poison was in the meat because they were exceptionally delicious or may be the poison was in the entire food. ” Those thoughts was racing through my mind but as the pain intensified and I knew the end had come.
I remembered all the ladies I dated and how I dumped them for others. (Some dumped me too though). Maybe they are the ones after me, may be not the food. It has to be the food. Maybe, Tola wanted Dolapo dead. A lot of may be(s).
Then I thought about praying. “Would God answer me?” I was such a bad boy. God doesn't answer bad boys. Thankfully I remembered Psalm 23 and I recited it in my heart and it was like the Psalm escalated the pain. "God is angry at me" I thought to myself. The pain grew worse and I was drifting away and then I died.
Few hours later, I woke up. There was this bright light shinning at my eyes. I was still in my lying down position. “This must be heaven”I looked up and I saw the "IBO Fan" I bought from Oshodi few weeks back. I never knew The Ibo(s) make fake products in heaven as well. I thought to myself”Heaven might me much more interesting than I thought." Then I heard the sounds and movement of my roommates getting ready for class. Are my roommates dead and are in heaven as well? I called out to one of them. and he shouted back at me.
"Please don't call me.” He shouted back at me. I’m late for class and I just want to finish this tea and zoom off" Tea? I wondered. From everything Jesus Said about heaven in the bible, drinking tea was not mentioned.
“I am not dead! “ I shouted.

The bright light was the early morning sunlight. I stood up and I could still feel some pain in my tummy but not excruciating. What happened? Did Psalm 23 save my life? I wondered.
The few minutes later, I rushed to the Toilet. I emptied my bowels. It was kind of thick and watery at the same time and my God! It was very Smelly like it had been kept somewhere for days.
After that I was relieved. I felt good and back to normal. Like nothing happened. I thought about it again and I was like, was I really poisoned? Just to be sure I dressed up skipped classes and went straight to school health center. Some poison might still be there waiting like time bombs.

After so much waiting it was my turn to see the doctor. I explained what happened but I skipped the part of the “circumstances” surrounding the food.

"It was food poisoning" he stated. I was like how did he know?
"Are you a witch doctor or medical doctor?" I questioned. ”How did you know I was poisoned?"
He laughed and started looking at me. You know the kind of "you are stupid" look. I felt uneasy. I adjust my ass on the seat waiting for some kind of explanation.

"Food poisoning is a common, yet distressing and sometimes life-threatening problem for millions of people in the world. People infected with food-borne organisms may be symptom-free or may have symptoms ranging from mild intestinal discomfort to severe dehydration and bloody diarrhea. Depending on the type of infection, people can even die as a result of food poisoning" He stated with medical professional voice.
"It is caused by eating contaminated food.” He continued. “Infectious organisms — including bacteria, viruses and parasites can contaminate food at any point of processing or production. Contamination can also occur at home if food is incorrectly handled or cooked." He concluded.
So, I was not poisoned. It occurred because the guy had left the food on the table for such a long time without refrigerating.( We don't have fridges in Nigerian schools). The Food contained vegetables so it had higher chances of being contaminated if not refrigerated for such a long time.

The reason I am writing this story is because if I had not been to the hospital, I would have believed Dolapo intentionally gave me the poisoned food and used me as a lab rat.
If the food poisoning had killed me, Dolapo’s roommate would have raised an alarm. Dolapo would have accused Tola and Tola and Dolapo would be cooling it off in prison. Love life would have been destroyed.
Today, Dolapo and Tola are happily married with two kids.
I made no mention of the incident to them till today.
